More brewing yesterday

Bottled up the three gallon batch we racked last week.  Started a five gallon batch of an experimental honey beer, and a three gallon batch of mesquite honey mead.  Also started a one gallon test batch of what I'm calling "Cherry Bomb".  One quart of black cherry juice, four pounds of honey, and champagne yeast.  The SG read at 1.166 before I pitched the yeast.  I've never started anything that that high of a specific gravity before, but the Champagne yeast is chowing down like little fiends right now.  The gas lock was bubbling away before I went to bed.  I figure with the amount of sugar in that batch, it'll ferment for at least two or three months before the yeast peters out, and I might end up with an alcohol content of 15-18%, with more than enough residual sugars to make it sweet.  Thus, Cherry Bomb!

The experimental beer is honey and hops, with a Dublin Ale yeast.  We're going to see how it turns out.  The Mrs. doesn't like a bitter beer so we went with Kent Golding hops; floral, a little citrus and herbal, but not much in the way of bitter at all.  No idea how it's going to turn out.  That's why it's an experiment.

The mead we bottled is going to be nice once it smooths out.  You can taste the cranberries from where the bees collected the honey.  It'll be a winner.

I also have a list of about six or seven other batches I want to brew up.  It'll be a busy fall and winter.

Pop pop, fizz fizz

Tried one of the apple ciders we bottled up last week - it's carbonated.  Happy happy joy joy!  Passed some out to the neighbors in celebration.

Got two batches we're working on today, plus a three gallon batch of mead to bottle up.  That'll require about six months of resting before it's ready to drink, but it's already got a great flavor to it.  Just rather harsh, as all young alcohol tends to be.  Gotta let it age!

Dear Colin Kaepernick

You make millions and millions of dollars to play a game.  Well, "play" might be too much of a stretch for your spastic attempts to throw a ball to open receivers, but still, you are getting paid millions and millions of dollars to sit on a bench, holding a clip-board while actual quarterbacks make the throws which you cannot.

This is the only country in the world in which you can get paid millions and millions of dollars to ride pine, so naturally I understand why you would want to sit down on that bench.  But when you sit on that bench during the NATIONAL ANTHEM and then snivel out this kind of crap:

And more importantly, if you think this country is so awful and bad and hateful and stuff, why don't you take your over-paid idiotic ass to other countries around the world and take a gander at the sheer level of racism and hatred that goes on, every single day, in countries full of black people.  I would suggest you take a vacation in the Congo, and then maybe Somalia, head to the Sudan, and finish up somewhere in the Arabian peninsula.  That way, if you're not killed in one of the former countries, you'll be enslaved in the latter.  Because America is RACISS dontchaknow.

Yesterday was National Dog Day

And I missed it!

Well, I missed blogging.  I was sort of busy.  And by "sort of" I mean I was out of the house before it was fully light, and back at the house as it was getting dark.

But the Mutts got extra walks, and lots of treats, and they're currently cuddling with the Mrs. and I on the couch waiting to go for yet another walk.  Because they're like that.

I slept in.  First day I've been able to do that for a bit.  Needed it.  Drinking coffee now.  Will give you long words when coffee is drank.  Till then, go away.

You want to see government health care in action?  You need to look no further than the VA hospital system, where veterans wait for years to get care, often dying while they wait, but the VA hires 160+ interior designers (at the cost of millions of dollars in total) and spends more millions of dollars on "art" to hang in hospitals that the vets cannot get care at.

Government health care is the VA system for everyone.  The only people who benefit are the politically connected elites who stand to make huge profits by shuffling your tax dollars to their back-scratching contacts.

"Transgender" kids aren't

The push for acceptance of "transgender" children is a load of politically correct bullshit, NOT backed by science, and destined to hurt the children in the long run.

These efforts to delay puberty and modify sex characteristics often involve hormone therapy. This type of "treatment" can have devastating effects. 

"I am a real, live 22-year-old woman, with a scarred chest and a broken voice, and five o'clock shadow because I couldn't face the idea of growing up to be a woman, that's my reality," admitted de-transitioning woman Cari Stella in a deeply personal YouTube video. She recalled, "When I was transitioning, I felt a strong desire — what I would have called a 'need' at the time — to transition," but her transition only hurt her more. "Testosterone made me even more dissociated than I already was." 

Another de-transitioning woman told her story on YouTube as well. "I had trauma that led to me disassociating from my female body, and ... the longer I chased that disassociation — the more I asked people to call me special pronouns, the more I tried to change my body, the more I ensconced myself in a community that would affirm a trans identity, the worse I felt," Carey Callahan said.

There is not a single real scientific study out there that proves that "transitioning" helps a person who identifies as the different gender.  The suicide rate for post-op trannies is IDENTICAL to pre-op trannies.  If the surgery is such a good idea, why are trannies killing themselves off at the same rate both before and after surgery?

You cannot claim that these folks "need" that surgery if there's no real improvement in their psychological health after they've mutilated their bodies.

The fact that these DNA donors are pushing for their kids to be injected with hormones in order to stave off puberty should let you know that there will be damage done that will never be healed.  "But Little Johnny wants to be Jenny!"  That's because little Johnny is surrounded by a culture that's pushing that sort of bullshit on him.  Our culture is literally pushing mental illness and telling people to be proud about it.

"But Dave, I know some trans-sexuals, and they're nice people!"  And?  Did I ever say that they weren't nice people?  Did I ever say that were bad, or unkind, or hated puppies and kittens?  No I did not.  What they are, are troubled.  Some of them are mentally ill.  And this country is telling them to embrace their illness and call it a good thing.

Bottling and Brewing

Didn't plan on doing much today.  Hah.  The best laid plans of mice and men....

Bottled up a three gallon batch of hard Apple Cider.  Plus a one gallon test batch of pear cider.

Racked a three gallon batch of straight mead; we used honey collected from the cranberry bogs in Wisconsin, it's got an awesome flavor.  Also racked a three gallon batch of cherry melomel.  This one was way too dry, we added three pounds of honey and set it back downstairs to finish fermenting.

Every time I PCS to a new place, I have to re-discover how to brew.  The climate that you brew in has as much to do with how the final product turns out as the ingredients do.  In Cali, I had to dump about half of what I made just because the temperatures were so hot and my house sucked so bad that I couldn't get consistent results out of the yeast.  In Wisconsin, there wasn't anything I couldn't make that didn't turn out well; our cellar stayed so cool in the summer that it was like having my own German monastery to use, and I turned out everything from wine to mead to ciders that all tasted good.  Here, it seems like my basement stays consistent enough that the yeast eats every last bit of sugar.  Both ciders started out at around 1.05 SG, and they ended up at 1.0 or below.  I like a good dry cider, the Mrs. does not.  So I'm happy, she wants it sweeter.  I've got a couple of test batches going that should not only taste good but give me a much better idea of what I'll be able to brew in the basement.  We took the lees (all the yeast that's settled in the bottom of the vessel) from our apple cider and dumped it into a new batch of apple/honey must, so I'm hoping to have a sweet apple and honey cider that will make the Mrs. happy.

All in all, I spent a good portion of the day standing in my kitchen making sure things were doing what they needed to do.  If there's one ingredient that I think people need to be aware of in brewing, it's this:  SANITIZE EVERYTHING THAT TOUCHES YOUR BREW.  So half the time I was doing actual mixing and brewing, the other half I was sanitizing all my equipment.

Oh, and don't wash it in soap - that kills your brew.  You have to use a sanitizer.  Since I'm on a septic here, I use a one-step sanitizer that utilizes oxygen to sanitize.  Plus damn near everything I use to ferment is glass, so all I have to do is make sure it's rinsed well, then hit it with the sanitizer to kill off any bugs that may be around.

I also do a bottle carbonation, because I don't have the equipment to carbonate with CO2.  So I have to prime my cider with sugar before I bottle it.  Takes a couple of weeks for the yeast to eat enough sugar and produce it's CO2.  It's a different carbonation than what folks are used to, but I like it.  So hopefully in two weeks I'll be popping the cap off a bottle and enjoying it.  I'll let you all know how it turns out.

Yard mowed, ribs in the smoker

Just did a simple spice mix - salt, pepper, garlic, rosemary, cayenne, and then mixed it with maple syrup so it was a paste; rubbed that all over the ribs.  Using applewood to smoke them.

Next up - bottling the three gallon batch of cider I have ready to go.

The Rot Goes Deep

When reports from CENTCOM have been doctored to make ISIS seem less....  terrorist-ish, and to paint US efforts as being successful, you have to ask just how far down the rot goes.  And unfortunately, there's no real way of knowing, other than it goes far too far.

In a troubling new report this week, House members concluded what many long suspected: Reports at the US Central Command, which oversees military efforts in the Middle East, were deliberately doctored to present a false and rosy picture of US efforts against ISIS. 

It’s the first official confirmation of whistleblower complaints that intelligence analysts’ assessments were routinely manipulated by top brass. Indeed, the report found 40 percent of the analysts “experienced an attempt to distort or suppress intelligence analysis” during a one-year period.  

All this fits with President Obama’s attempts to paint ISIS as merely a “JV team” and claim the group had been “contained.”

Obama is a worthless fucking liar, and rather than tell the truth about ISIS he had his people change the intel reports to line up closer to his lies.

The fact that he has an approval rating around 50% tells me that this country is fucked.  Because if people are so stupid and blind to still support that lying Marxist anal-wart, after everything that as come out, it means that there's no amount of truth, logic, fact or reasoning that can be used to penetrate those skulls, short of leading with a .30 caliber penetrator.

OK, I'm ready for winter

Heat index today was 114.  Considering the Mrs. and I were out with friends trying to enjoy an outdoor activity, that sucked.  We had to call it a day early, because after about five hours we just couldn't do any more.  We were drained.

I remember this humidity.  It's why I've never chosen to live on the East Coast.

Not really watching the Olympics

First up, NBC can eat a bag of dicks.  If there's anything that makes me NOT want to watch a sporting event, it's the never-ending parade of sob-story BS that they inject into EACH and EVERY SINGLE EVENT.  "Little Katie was born without labia, but still managed to work her way into the Olympics!  Yay Katie!"  45 minutes of faux-emotional crap followed by 15 minutes of highlights, followed by more crap.

Back in '92, my parents took me on vacation during the summer.  We went up to Vancouver and Victoria, B.C.  So to watch the Olympics, we watched Canadian TV.  The difference in how they presented the games was stunning.  Even decades ago the US was all about trying to tug on heartstrings and little Katie's missing labia, and less about sports.  The Canucks were "Here's the crewing event.  And here's the medal round of the crewing event.  Here's the medal ceremony.  And now here's the men's 100m event.  Here's the medal round of the 100m event."  So on and so forth.  In terms of showing you the events, the Canadian broadcast was far superior to what the US was putting out.

Second reason I really don't give a crap about the Olympics much anymore is the fact that there are pro athletes playing in what is supposed to be an amateur event.  NBA stars on basketball?  Sure, sure, the damn Europeans started that years ago.  The solution was to ban their pro stars, not allow our pro stars to jump in.  If I actually wanted to watch basketball (which I don't) I would tune in to the NBA, not the USA versus some country that might have one star on the national stage.  "Oh, look the USA just crushed Micronesia 149-12!  Go SPORTS!"  Nah.  Nope.  I have better things to do than give a shit about that.

Yes, there are plenty of sports without pro athletes.  Bully for them.  I don't get to watch them without a 45 minute sob story about Katie's missing labia and how she had to persevere.  Oh, and then just because the SJW mob can't leave anything alone, we have this crap right here.

Considering that in my 9+ hours of driving today, I saw people from every state except Georgia going up and down I-95.

So what is it then?  Is it the proximity to the salt water that causes the Consolidated Clusterfuck of Stupidity on the roads?  Did every drooling halfwit decide to take a drive today?  At about hour eight I was ready to pull a jackass out of his car and beat him with my tire iron.  I'd do it at speed.  I'd just lean out, snatch the phone out of his hand, grab him by the hair and pound the ever-loving shit out of him while the wife kept the car going in a straight direction.

Ten bucks says the slack-jawed morons were Obama voters.  The people I saw with conservative bumper stickers were all rather polite.  Too bad they were the minority today.

I have always been amazed

At how tight women can wear their jeans.  Some of them look painted on.  You see a lot of this in an airport.

What we need to do is make it less expensive to have kids.

I know lots of folks who would like more kids, but they can't afford it.  Kids cost big bucks these days.  And with the government taking more and more and more of your cash, and throwing it into the vast maw of entitlements that you'll never see, and which certainly have no benefit, people are making the choice to only have one or two kids.

Well, except for the Free Shit Army.  They're popping out kids left and right, because YOU are paying for them, not the women of the FSA.

If you want to encourage people to have kids, start removing the massive economic burdens from them.  Get rid of "free" compulsory education (as if anything in this world is "free") and allow parents to send their kids to whichever school they wish.  Stop crushing people with the Nanny State, which means stop arresting parents for letting their kids walk to the park alone.

Hell, if allowing your kids to walk a couple blocks to the park gets you arrested in Maryland, my parents would have been in lock-up for decades.  I biked to school by myself when I was six.

Government is ultimately the problem here.  You want more of the right people having more babies?  And by that I mean the productive members of society, not the FSA or the wetback senoritas who pop out anchor babies who will never learn English while they get a free ride in California.  Get rid of the government.

Thirty-three people were hospitalized for a possible overdose on K2, a type of synthetic marijuana, in Brooklyn on Tuesday morning. 

Witnesses reported seeing more than a dozen people passing out, vomiting, urinating and twitching in the middle of the street around 9.30am in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood.

I'm hoping that a whole bunch of moms are showing this news story to their kids and saying "YOU SEE THIS?!?!?!  THIS IS WHY YOU DON'T TOUCH THAT CRAP!!!!!"

It's good to be honest

It’s you, leftists, who have a seething enmity for all things American. You want to erase our sovereignty, our national pride. Just take a look at all the homepages of major leftist websites on the 4th of July. HuffPo, Salon, Slate – there was nary a flag or patriotic article to be seen. Instead those digital rags were consumed with Trump drama, or a new accusation of racism. Sexism. Homophobia. Xenophobia. All meaningless phrases used as tools to destroy the character of anyone with whom you disagree. In this case, most of America. 

Steep accusation, right? Wrong. You’re fooling no one. You make your hateful stance glaringly obvious via the things you say, the policies you support, and the actions you take. 

Case in point, just a few days ago I attended the local parade. Out trotted the municipal Democrat chapter. Rainbow flags? Check. Hillary signs? Check. American flags? No. 

The Republican float followed. Not a Trump sign in sight – just big old American flags. It was clear one was the party of patriotism, the other a party of pity. One float inspired pride, the other made me throw up a little.

The murder of five police officers

Is the direct result of Barack Hussein Obama and his administration siding against the cops on a national level over and over and over and over and over.

That racist black asshole in Cambridge?  Obama said the cops acted stupid.

Trayvon Martin, who was bashing George Zimmerman's head into the concrete sidewalk?  Obama said his son would look like Trayvon, and sicced his DOJ on Zimmerman.  Zimmerman wasn't a cop, but it set the tone for other interactions down the line.

Michael Brown was a dope-smoking thug who had just robbed a convenience store, bounced the store owner against a wall on his way out, and was smoking his stolen cigars while walking down the middle of the street when the police saw him.  He then assaulted the cop while the cop was sitting in his car.  That got him shot once.  He refused to listen to the cops orders, and charged at the cop again.  That got him shot a bunch more times, and he died.  Obama decided to take the story spewed out by Brown's robber accomplice and run with it as the truth.  "Hands up don't shoot" was the phrase de jour, and it was complete bullshit.  Brown never had his hands up, which was proved by the autopsy.  Obama sicced his DOJ on Ferguson.  The police officer resigned and walked away from his career in law enforcement.  The Grand Jury, including several black men and women, who saw the actual evidence of the case, refused to bring a case against the officer.

Every time there has been a chance for Obama to show support for the police, the rule of law, and common sense, he instead feeds in to the hatred that he has against this country and against white people.

Did Obama personally tell that asshole in Dallas to start shooting?  No.  But he set the stage for it to happen.  I blame Obama and his administration for what happened in Dallas.

Marxists hate the law when it stops them from doing what they want to do.  That's why Democrats hate the Constitution so much, and work to destroy it at every turn.  However, once they have corrupted the law?  It's thug government from then on out.  Like the IRS attacking conservatives.  General Petraeus being charged, tied and convicted for handling classified information improperly, but Hillary Clinton, who acted far, far worse and did so maliciously and with intent skates free.

Once again, stock up on ammo.  A thug government rules through force.  The government of the USA has lost any authority to govern, and can now only enforce the laws through threats of violence.  Everyone can see that following the law is a sucker's game now.  When the powerful elitists in D.C. can break the law with impunity, but average Americans are severely punished for just living their lives (see what the EPA does to people who build a stock pond on their property without master's permission!), then it's just a short period of time before the shooting starts.

About the only thing that will reverse this trend is to make the thugs afraid of us.  When a corrupt government thug shows up to enforce the corrupt government rules, they need to just....  disappear.  And the next one.  And the next one.  Until the corrupt government thugs are too afraid to enforce their corrupt government thuggish rules.

But at this point any people who still believe that the government works for us is a blind fool, desperately hoping for a pipe-dream that will never exist. The USA is dead.  Long live the USA.  It's not a question of if, it's just a question of when the shooting will start.  Hillary moves the clock forward.  Trump holds it off for just a little bit.

Suicide is greedy and selfish

I spent a little time at the hospital yesterday, with a man who's child had attempted suicide.  Attempted, but failed, fortunately.  He'll get another chance to apologize to his family for the absolute hell he put them through.

Suicide damages so many people outside of the greedy, selfish person who end their life.  The families who wonder why, and what they could have done.  The friends who have to deal with the gaping hole in their life.  Suicide injures and wounds everyone else around the person who commits the act.  It is selfish.  It is stupid.  It is greedy.  No wonder the Catholic Church considers suicide the only unforgivable sin.  There's no way a person can atone for the damage they do once they've jumped off that bridge, or pulled that trigger, or swallowed those pills.

So if there's anyone out there contemplating suicide, here's my suggestion:  Don't.  It's not worth it.  You spend eternity roasting in Hell, and you hurt the people you love more than you will ever know until it's too late.

In that I'm still not showered yet.  But that'll change, once I finish dying all the leather pieces that I've got to them weave together in order to re-do my armor so I stop getting bruises on my left leg.

Don't know what I'll be doing after that.  Can't sit still.  I think there will be many activities completed today.

It's been a while since I last got armored up.  Yesterday the Mrs. and I went to an event; I spent a good deal of time getting re-aquainted with fighting in armor.

The US Government has no clue where the Orlando Shooter's wife is

Attorney General Loretta Lynch admitted today that the FBI is unaware of the whereabouts of Omar Mateen's wife, Noor Salman.  

Salman has indicated she suspected Mateen was about to commit a terrorist attack, and even accompanied him to buy the weaponry he used to carry out the massacre. She insists, however, that as he left she tried to hold onto his arm so he wouldn't leave.
If the FBI believes she was aware of the impending attack, she could be prosecuted.  

"Has the shooter’s wife left the state of Florida?" a reporter asked Lynch during her press conference Tuesday. 

"Right now, I don’t know exactly the answer to that," Lynch candidly replied. "I believe she was going to travel but I do not know exactly her location now."

I take back what I said yesterday.  Loretta Lynch is not a smart woman.  She is horrifically stupid, which is par for the course with the Obama administration.

Why is it that when some Splody-dope whackjob kills people while screaming "ALLAHU ACKBAR!" they Left always, ALWAYS attacks Christians and law-abiding gun owners?

There wasn't a single gun control measure proposed by the traitorous Democrats that would have prevented Orlando from happening.  But that's not the point.  They don't want to prevent another Orlando.  They can't even bring themselves to name the evil that shot up a gay nightclub.  Islam.  Jihadism.  The Left can't admit who actually committed this crime, and they sure as hell aren't going to address it in any meaningful way.  They're going to attack the people who are not responsible for the Orlando shooting, because they cannot admit that one of their favored minority classes might possibly be responsible for the massacre.

In their desire to destroy private ownership of guns in this country, the Left will destroy due process. the presumption of innocence, all of it.  Because they hate the Constitution of this country, as it stands in their way of total control.  And they think they can use gun control to destroy Due Process and every other Constitutional protection that we have.  And they're going to keep trying.

Hillary must never, ever get into the White House.  The Democrats are too close to causing a civil war in this country.  We would not survive a Hillary presidency.

This is a direct violation of the 1st Amendment of the Constitution, perpetrated by people who SWORE AN OATH to PROTECT AND DEFEND that Constitution!

Every person who had a hand in this absolute travesty and abortion of their oath needs to be removed from their position and sent packing.  Period.

Surfing past Fox News this morning, I heard someone report on a poll about what caused the massacre in Orlando. Apparently, most Republicans believe it was caused by Islamic extremism, whereas most Democrats believe it was caused by “domestic gun violence.” 

But the massacre was domestic gun violence. Democrats might just as well say that murder caused the murders.

The Left forces itself into idiocy.  They subjugate themselves to indoctrination in order to belong to their hive mind collective.  It's why bumper sticker slogans are so popular on the Left.  It doesn't take much brain power to regurgitate a Leftist slogan, and in order to actually believe those Leftist memes adorning various cars you have to make yourself stupid.

For example, this blithering idiocy:

Project day

Five gallon batch of wine started.  Three test batches of wine started as well, pear cider, pear wine and elderberry mead, as the folks who are teaching me to work a bee hive also gave us some elderberries from their garden and said "What can you make with this?"

Finishing up the day with a beer and a cigar out back.  Life ain't half bad, eh?
