Well, lookie here!

It seems that criminals don't like it when their victims can fight back!

“I don’t want to take away from the good work our investigators are doing, but I think part of the drop in crime, and robberies in particular, is because criminals are thinking twice that citizens could be armed.”
According to The Detroit News, there have been 37 percent fewer robberies, 22 percent fewer break-ins and 30 percent fewer carjackings this so far in 2014 compared to the same period last year.
“I can’t say what specific percentage is caused by this, but there’s no question in my mind it has had an effect,” Craig said.

If ordinary citizens carrying guns can have this effect in Detroit, just imagine what it can do for your city!

Got halfway home today

And my rear tire went flat.  It wasn't flat when I left work, but as I was pedaling my butt home I started to feel every bump in the bike path.  Looked down, saw flat tire.

Fuck.

So now I get to buy a new tube and put it in.  I could be doing so many better things right now.

Kinda-sorta update:  I'm putting a patch on it right now, so we'll see what happens.  The tire has to be inflated to 70-75psi, so I don't know how well a patch is going to hold.

Confirmation

I never read many of Marion Zimmer Bradley's books.  They weren't my thing.  I think I now know why; when the mind writing the books is this diseased, they won't appeal to the sane.

Marion Zimmer Bradley was a child rapist and a child abuser.  Her daughter laid out just a small piece of the hell that she went through in an email.  Her son confirmed what her daughter had claimed.  This woman was raping her own daughter at the age of three.

Three.  Years.  Old.

This woman knew that her partner was a serial abuser, who sexually abused dozens of children himself.  And rather than sent the bastard to jail, as any sane person would do, she defended his sexual abuse and both encouraged/enabled it.

Had I any Zimmer books, I would be burning them right now.  But since they never appealed to me, I never bought any.  So at least I can say that I did not give any kind of financial support to a child rapist who encouraged others to rape children as well.

The more you learn about MBZ, the less you like.  Quite honestly, it makes me reconsider my association with the SCA, although most people in the SCA today may or may not be able to tell you who the heck MZB is.  We'll see how I feel about that when I'm in a place where I can actually participate.

This particular bit of brain vomit started with reading about Mark Greyland over at Vox Pololi.  Ugh. I need a shower now.

Kinda Significant

When even the cab drivers in Orlando, FL are wishing that Uber would show up so that they can go drive for Uber and leave the cab companies, you know that traditional cab companies have some rather significant problems.

Several cabdrivers who lease their cars from Mears or other taxi companies told the Orlando Sentinel they want to switch to Uber because they think they can make more money.
"If Uber opened up right now, then all the companies are going to be without drivers. If you talk to 1,000 drivers, 950 will tell you they are going to go to Uber," said a Quick Cab driver who has driven in Orlando for the past six years. He and other drivers spoke on the condition of anonymity, fearing recriminations from taxi companies.

I think the best quote I've heard with regards to the whole Uber vs. Cabbies situation came from Uber's CEO, who said that the there has been so much corruption and crony capitalism with taxi companies that when you ask permission to do something that's legal you don't get it.

Hell, I could have told you that!

Asking kids to sit still for an hour at a time is un-natural, unhealthy, and unproductive.

Fidgeting is a real problem. It is a strong indicator that children are not getting enough movement throughout the day. We need to fix the underlying issue. Recess times need to be extended and kids should be playing outside as soon as they get home from school. Twenty minutes of movement a day is not enough! They need hours of play outdoors in order to establish a healthy sensory system and to support higher-level attention and learning in the classroom.

I think that most kids, boys especially would learn better with less time in the classroom and more time outside.  What good is an hour in the classroom if half of it is wasted by a kid who cannot pay attention because we're forcing them to stunt their growth and their instincts?

Gah....

Sorry, I'm busy.  Have a post that I stole from here:

She gets WHAT?

Can someone please explain to me just how and why Chelsea Clinton gets $75,000 PER SPEECH?

Are you fucking kidding me?

Just what the hell has Chelsea Clinton done to deserve $75k to open her over-priviledged yap? Can anyone point to one thing she's done?

ANYTHING?

The only thing that makes Chelsea special is that Bill managed to get high enough on cocaine to lay the pipe to Hillary at least once, and they spawned.  That's it.  That's Chelsea's big achievement, and she really wasn't even involved in it.  Other than that, this is just more proof that the Left is so infatuated with their Marxist gods and goddesses that even being related to a ProgNazi deity is enough to get you paid.

Does George Bush's daughters get paid $75k to give a speech?  Hell, do they even go around giving speeches?

Oh by the way, that $75k per speech is more than I make in ONE YEAR.  I don't EVER want to hear the Left cry about the 1% when they give the Clintons a tongue bath at every opportunity.  Fucking hypocrites.

Another busy day today

So here's another NSFW throw-away post.

It's always worse

Every time you learn more about how badly Obama has fucked things up, it always gets worse.

While the policy process in Washington was frozen, U.S. intelligence analysts still filed their warnings about major weaknesses in Iraq’s military. Both the CIA and the Defense Intelligence Agency have issued reported analysis for nearly a year warning that Iraq’s military would not be able to stand up against a sustained campaign from ISIS.

So this weak, gutless, pathetic piece of shit in the Oval Office has been warned over and over for years about ISIS, and did nothing.  NOTHING!

Obama has thrown away every sacrifice made in Iraq.  And he did it because he's too pathetic to do anything else.

The Evil of Obamacare

I won't go into how the National Organization for (Liberal) Women put the Little Sisters of the Poor on their "Dirty 100" list.

I will simply state that any law which refuses to recognize Catholic Nuns as a "religious employer" because they employ and minister to non-Catholics isn't just stupid, it is evil, and it is designed to be so.

Inexcusable

There is absolutely no reason why I should be up this early.

New pair of Docs

I have horrible feet when it comes to buying shoes.  A high instep, high arch, tall feet, the only normal thing about my feet is that I'm a 10 ½ regular.  But couple a normal size with all the other characteristics, and I can't find decent shoes to save my life.  I'll shop for days just to get a pair of running shoes, because if they don't fit just right I'll be hobbled after I use them.

Anyways, I had a pair of Dr. Marten's sandals that the Ragin' Mrs. and gotten for me back when we were stationed in Puerto Rico.  So we're talking seven or eight years ago.  And these poor sandals are just beat to hell by now; stitching coming out, leather peeling from the foot-bed, sole worn smooth and flat, just plain worn out.

I've been shopping for a new pair of sandals for about two weeks, trying to find a pair that didn't pinch my feet at the wrong spot, and give me enough arch support, and so on and so forth.  We finally just went to the Dr. Marten's store in Santa Monica so I could try on another pair.  And I found the perfect pair, after two weeks of searching!  They fit, they feel good, they don't do weird things to my gait, and I bought 'em and walked out of the store with them on my feet.  And the crowd sang Hallelujah!

Now, we had a seminarian with us that day; he's going through training with our church, and the Bishop wanted him to get out and about, so he came with us.  He's wearing his cassock, and his collar, and we're walking around Santa Monica together after I got my sandals.  We pass buy a group of people who are evangelizing in the middle of the Third Street Promenade, and all of the sudden my  red alert siren goes off in my head.  I look closer, and all those folks handing out pamphlets asking if you know your creator?  Muslims.  They're talking about the Koran, and Allah this and Allah that, and they are all staring at this young man in his collar and cassock with contempt and hatred in their eyes.

I looked at this young man, who was also recognizing just what was going on and said "Abbé, I think we may want to pick it up a step."

I never expected Muslims to be out there like Jehovah's Witnesses, but there they were.  And they were NOT happy to see a traditional Catholic walking around.  Hell, we didn't even get that much of a stink-eye from the flaming homosexual guy at the Dr. Marten's store.

But anyway, there we go.  How's your weekend going?

Happy Fourth!

And a shout-out to my Navy-boat hitch-hiking bothers out there.

Since Souza was a Jarhead and all....

I'm going to be spending the day smoking a brisket and hanging out with friends.  I suggest you do something similar if you can.

And if you can't because Uncle Sam has you in some guard-shack in some dank hole of a country, well, thank you, and I owe you a beer.

I wanted to go running today

Had on my shoes, dogs in tow, ready to go.

Stepped outside into some of the nastiest smog I'd seen here.  I tried to go, I really did, but I was a quarter-mile in and my chest was getting tight, I was coughing, and I could taste the metallic tang of smog in the back of my throat.

I hate this place.  I hate this disgusting, polluted, nasty shithole that I'm forced to live in.  I hate the fact that I have to hide indoors because the air is so dirty that normal human activity causes me to break out into a coughing fit.  Hell, I've had a cough for the past two months, and I'm not sick, I'm just sucking this foul, nasty, polluted Los Angeles air into my lungs.  I cannot wait until I can escape from this third-world shithole masquerading as an American city.  Los Angeles needs to fall off into the ocean and drown, for the good of the rest of the country.

How would you like to take a bus ride

...and end up with scabies?  And lice?

The nurse told me she became especially alarmed because their files indicated the children had been transported to Lackland on domestic charter buses and airplanes.
“That’s what alerted me,” she said. “Oh, my God. They’re flying these kids around. Nobody knows that these children have scabies and lice. To tell you the truth, there’s no way to control it.”

Welcome once again to Obama's America.  The best part?  The healthcare workers are being threatened with arrest and confinement if they tell people just how bad the situation is.  So they're bringing in thousands upon thousands of illegal aliens, and just dumping them into America without any regard to the consequences.

Yep.  Obama's America.

I say dump them all in Washington D.C.  If they're going to be used as political props, keep them close to the politicians.  In fact, give them access to the Senate and the White House.  Let them crawl all over the chairs, and the floor, and run down the halls.  Make sure Harry Reid's seat is given special attention by the little scabies-crusted, border-hopping disease factories.

Does that sound mean?  Yeah, it does.  But we cannot fix the problems in Guatemala, or Nicaragua, or El Salvador, or Mexico.  Hell, the politicians in this country can't even man up and demand the same level of security on our Southern border as Mexico has on their Southern border.  Nope, that would be meeeeeeeean!  And raciss!  So we continue to allow anybody who can run, jump or swim access into this country via our Southern border, no matter who they are!

That's not just stupid, that's criminally insane.

We cannot help the entire population of Guatemala, or Nicaragua, or El Salvador, or Mexico.  We don't have the space, the money, the facilities, or the patience.  There will never be enough supply of aid to cover the demand coming from the third-world shitholes in Central and South America.  Until those countries drop their Socialist governments and improve themselves, there's nothing anybody can do, short of invading, toppling the government there and annexing it as another state of the United States.

I don't see a whole lot of enthusiasm for that.  I certainly don't have it.

So all we can do is seal the border, tell people to get their shit straight before they try to come here, and demand the same respect for our borders that all those other countries demand for theirs.

Roundabout

Way, way back.....

OK, in 1999....

I scored tickets to a concert at Sandstone Amphitheater when I was stationed at Ft. Riley in Kansas, to go see two bands that just absolutely rocked:  Kansas, and Yes.

They might not have had all the screaming fans of some other bands, but this was undoubtedly the beset concert I have ever been to in my entire life.  These two bands just blew people flat with their music, and all they had for a set was large, white sheets with a few colored lights behind them for effect.  The entire show was all about the music.

I really wish that "bands" today were half as talented.  Or at least, the bands that get record deals.  I've seen plenty of talented bands playing away in some club, never even getting a sniff from the big labels.

The Left's demands about birth control

summed up in one tweet:

And isn't that just the perfect summation?  Hell, isn't that just the perfect summation for 80% of the ProgLeft's arguments?  They want what they want, and they want everyone else to pay for it.

Aaaaaand, here we go

Every Caliphate needs it's leadership. and every leadership needs a communications network.  So we listen in on what they're saying, where they're going, and instead of sending a couple of divisions over, we just send bombers.  High altitude bombers, with GPS-guided JDAMS.

Boom.  The more leaders they move up, the more JDAMS we drop.  Don't just level the house.  Don't send in snipers.  Level the entire friggin' village.

I'm done being nice.  And we all know that Obama the petulant bitch doesn't have what it takes to win a war in Iraq.  Hell, he was handed a safe, stable country and fucked that up.  He certainly wouldn't be able to fix the mess he created now.  So I don't want to see any more US lives lost in Iraq until we have leadership that actually A) wants America to win as Obama doesn't and B) has the guts it takes to make the proper decisions, as Obama doesn't.

What is a "real" education worth?

Patrice Lewis has a post up questioning the value of a "real" college education.  I won't paraphrase what she said, you can go read it over there when you want to.

As part of her post, she links to Survival Blog, where they write that becoming self sufficient is better than going to college.

Here's my take (and you just knew I had a take on it):  Excepting the hard sciences such as math and engineering, I would rather hire someone with an honorable discharge from the military rather than someone with a four-year degree.

Now, obviously I'm somewhat biased, and I'll admit to that.  However, I'll point out that I've seen more than my share of people with an Honorable Discharge who still couldn't pour piss out of a boot if you printed instructions on the heel.  It's just that the ratio of worthless morons grows exponentially when you start looking at people with fancy sheepskins hanging on their wall.

What does a four (or five!) year degree mean these days?  Most likely, it means that you can successfully regurgitate all the hard-Left shibboleths on command, and have most likely been indoctrinated into some of the most toxic, anti-American thinking you can find in this country.

What does an Honorable Discharge mean?  Most likely it means that you can work in a team, can both give and receive orders and follow them out, and kept your nose clean and out of trouble for a goodly number of years.

"B-b-b-but, DAAAAVE!  What schooling does that military guy have that can help you in your business, huh?  Just what does he KNOW?!?!"

Hell, what schooling does that college graduate have that will help me with my business?  Tell me just what some Film Studies major can do for me?  Oh, you have a degree in English?  That's wonderful, exactly how are you going to help me sell food or plan my business?

Don't even get me started on "Wymens Studies".  I think that any college that offers a gender-based degree needs to be shut down for Grand Larceny.

And if you truly do want an education, in this day and age of online schooling you can get a degree at just about any time.  Hell, I'm getting my degree right now, and it's been years since I stepped foot into a traditional classroom.  And I will not pay to set foot in a traditional classroom in any case, as I don't wish to be exposed to far-Left propaganda disguised as education.  I don't have that problem with my online school.

Now keep in mind that when it comes to things like designing and building bridges or skyscrapers, or heavy manufacturing, or being a doctor, you obviously need schooling.  I got it.  There are some degrees that are required for certain jobs.

But check out the ratios of hard science degrees to liberal arts degrees.  And let's be blunt; I'm not going to be hiring a doctor or an engineer to help me with my business.

So.....  what's a "real" education worth to you?

Got a bike

The Ragin' Mrs. already had one; she uses it for going shopping, tooling around the neighborhood, etc.  Me, I haven't had a bike for almost a decade now.

Fixed that today.  Got pretty much a hybrid of a mountain/road bike.  Rides nice and I can get up to some pretty decent speed on it.  I'm going to start riding it to work, try to save some money on this too-damn expensive gasoline we got right here.

Fantasies

I just spent a goodly amount of time and two cans of spray-paint covering up graffiti that was left on my wall by one of Los Angeles' junior criminals.

I have actual fantasies about catching these parasitic shitstains in the act, and beating them so fucking hard that they have to wear diapers and helmets for the rest of their miserable lives.  I want to break them in half and shit in their mouth before throwing them into the road and letting traffic run over their broken bodies all day long.

Worthless, gutless, pathetic, parasitic, criminal maggots.  And I would bet my entire paycheck that they're huge Obama fans.

I cannot wait to leave this disgusting shithole.

D.C. cabbies strike to protest Uber

Business for Uber soars.  Go figure.

Look, I sort of understand the cabbie's frustrations here.  They pay big bucks to buy a medallion, and then they have to suck up to the big labor people, and jump feet first into cronyism, corruption and shady politics to stay in business.  And here comes Uber, with a new business plan that doesn't have to play with all of that.

If it were me?  If I were a cabbie watching Uber come on to the scene?

I'd be buying the most fuel efficient vehicle I could, and joining up with Uber.  Every single day of the week, and twice on Sundays.  The solution to dealing with crap is to get rid of the crap, not complain about other people who don't have to deal with crap.

Ah, well.  The cabbie strike is probably some of the best advertising for Uber that's out there.  The wife and I used Uber to get to the airport for our last vacation.  Loved it.  Car was clean, driver was nice, and it was about half the cost.  Why wouldn't we take Uber?

EPA employees have to be told not to poop in the hallways

No, really, they have to be told that.

Fire them all.

Fire them all, sell everything in the building at auction, close it down, and save the USA some money.  Just get rid of it.

Sleepless nights

Woke up in the middle of the night to the aroma of skunk.  We live close to a flood-control area which is also a wildlife reserve.  Skunks are common, as is the smell when someone gets too close to them.  It was strong for about five minutes, and then it faded, so it wasn't a skunk strike too close to my house.  For all I know, it could have been some hobo running by after getting hit.

Managed to get back to sleep, only to wake up to the smell of burning paper/cardboard.  That got me out of bed, but there was nothing even close to the house that was burning.  Best I can guess is that some homeless guy in the park was making himself a little fire.

I really, REALLY cannot wait to the the hell out of this shithole.  I don't mind the skunks, really.  But the noise, the crime, the trash, the shit, the filth, the omnipresent brown smog, the hobos camped out in the park taking a piss in plain view and leaving trash everywhere, I cannot wait to leave it all behind.

Over 1000 veterans dead because of VA waiting lists?

Um.....  whoa.

As with any huge government agency, once you start digging, you just keep pulling up more dirt.  The VA is no exception.  In fact, it's probably worse.  Remember all the crap going on a Walter Reed Hospital?  Mold on the walls, horrible conditions?  Do you really think that would have been fixed on it's own?

Hell no.

Oh, and the unnecessary pelvic and breast exams being given by a sex offender?  Hellooooooooooo, Obamacare!

Noise

I'm listening to a helicopter hover overhead somewhere close to the house right now.  I don't know if it's a police chopper or of it's a news/traffic bird, but either way I cannot wait to live in a place where I don't hear that kind of noise on a regular basis.

I'll say it again

"Global Warming" is a religion.  Wait, scratch that.  Global Warming is a cult.  A cult of easily duped people who desperately wish to believe that they can actually do something to affect the Earth on a large scale.  And like any cult, when reality intrudes, they either face the facts, or ignore them.  And the Global Warming cult has not only been ignoring the facts, they've been changing them to suit their needs.

Goddard shows how, in recent years, NOAA’s US Historical Climatology Network (USHCN) has been “adjusting” its record by replacing real temperatures with data “fabricated” by computer models. The effect of this has been to downgrade earlier temperatures and to exaggerate those from recent decades, to give the impression that the Earth has been warming up much more than is justified by the actual data. In several posts headed “Data tampering at USHCN/GISS”, Goddard compares the currently published temperature graphs with those based only on temperatures measured at the time. These show that the US has actually been cooling since the Thirties, the hottest decade on record; whereas the latest graph, nearly half of it based on “fabricated” data, shows it to have been warming at a rate equivalent to more than 3 degrees centigrade per century.

Emphasis mine.  The blog post referenced is here, and it has a handy little gif showing temperature records both with and without the fabricated data.

Global Warming is a hoax.  And a cult.

Here, let me piss some people off

Instapundit linked to an advice column about a female who's male partner is upset because she won't do things with him that she has done for previous boyfriends.  See, this girl was COMPLETELY HONEST (all caps in the original, so you know she's all like, swearsies and stuff!) with her boyfriend, and now she's hurt because HE is upset over the fact that she used to be a little freak in the bedroom, but now she's not.

Now, while I'm all up for mocking people who write in to an advice column, I really wanted to comment on what the columnist herself wrote:

He is the one who has to get past it, and it doesn’t sound as if he’s trying. If he won’t try, then I don’t see any other answer than to break up.
I can’t speak for you, but “all I’ve ever wanted in a partner” is someone who accepts me as-is. You don’t have that — he’s punishing you for who you are. Are, were: Same diff, by the way.
Emphasis mine.  Pardon me, but what an absolute load of horse-shit.  This guy is "punishing" his girlfriend?  This guy has to "get past it"?  Screw you, you sanctimonious feminist cow.

Let's try on this perspective, shall we?  Girlie used to be a freak in the bedroom.  Guy is perfectly fine with her being freaky in the bedroom, and says "Hey, cool, let's get freaky!"  Girlie says "No, not with you, I don't do that anymore."

What the fucking fuck?  So all those other guys were good enough to get freaky with, but your boyfriend isn't?  All those other guys were worthy of sexual escapades, but your current boyfriend isn't?  Those other guys got your "A" game, but your current boopsie only rates your "B" game?

In short, it's another variation of a girl burning through all the bad boys, until she's ready to settle down and then she wants to find a "nice guy".  "OK, I've had my fun, now it's time for you to take care of me and forget that I did anything in the past!"

Not just no but hell no.

I almost never pay $15 for a book

Look, I'm not rich.  I'm not even close to being rich.  And even if I were rich, unless the book has a huge value to me in terms of research or personal education, I am not paying $15 for it.

And I'm certainly not paying $15 for an e-book.  Not gonna happen.  While the effort on the part of the author is the same, you don't have to print it.  You don't have to bind it.  You don't have to do anything that spits out a physical object.  That's the whole point of an e-book!  I have an entire library in my Kindle, and it's all digital.

So when I read things like this, about how a publishing company is supposedly preparing for the future, and part of that future is keeping the e-books they digitally publish at $14.99?

Yeah, good luck with that.  Because you won't be getting any of my money.  Hell, there are authors out there who I like and enjoy reading, and I won't spend $9.00 on their e-book either.  Because when it comes down to where my money goes, that $9 is a big chunk out of my personal finances.  People can try to say that it's only $9, but that cash has a name.  It's a truck in the future, or the next step to owning my own business once I retire from the military.  And while I appreciate what people write and I enjoy reading it, I read so quickly that my $9 amounts to an afternoon of reading.  If that.

No, I don't go to movies either.  Hell no.  Not only do I refuse to pay the salaries of a bunch of snotty Leftist Hollywood douchebags who hate me and everything I stand for, but I refuse to take out the second mortgage on my house to pay for the popcorn and soda.  Screw that noise.  Take the wife to a movie, or take that money and cook dinner for three nights?  Hmmmmmm, hard choice, right?

So anyways, anyone who thinks that I'm going to spend $15 on an e-book is probably going to be out of business sooner or later.  I'm guessing sooner.

Bad things I've done

The Ragin' Mrs and I were off to see a friend in the hospital last night.  But before we left, we had dinner.  BBQ pork.  And the Mrs spiced it up a bit.

And by "a bit", I mean my entire head was sweating by the time I finished eating.  My lips were burning.  I was chugging milk to make the heat go away.  But my mouth cooled down just in time to leave.

So off we go, and sure enough, by the time we get to the hospital my stomach is doing flip-flops.  Not enough that I couldn't control it, but bad enough that I had to find ways to release the pressure when no one was around.

So we're in the elevator heading up to where our friend is at, and I feel it:  That rumbling, twisting, gurgling sensation that says a pressure release is imminent.  Since the Mrs and I are the only ones on the elevator, I figure that if I let it go at just the right time, no one will notice.

The doors open, and as I slowly walk out, I trip the pressure release switch.  I'm talking a good three second burst which let out so much gas that my waist shrank several inches.  And I managed to do it silently, which I thought was amazing.  And we saunter out of the elevator, and there's no one around, and I'm thinking that I've made it free and clear.

Then, at the last minute, I see a nurse turn the corner and high-tail it to the open elevator.  I tried to warn her off with my eyes, but she didn't even look at me, just sped into the elevator that I had just turned into a gas chamber.

As the doors closed, I heard her start coughing.  And then I heard a sob right before the doors shut completely.

I'm pretty sure it's things like that will send me straight to hell.  I won't even bounce in purgatory, there will just be a Dave-shaped hole in the floor, while I burn into the seventh or eighth circle.

Answer to the Trivia Question

The Seattle Metropolitans were the first US Team to win the Stanley Cup, in 1917.

If the NHL ever pulled it's head out of it's ass, it would get a pro hockey team in Seattle pronto.  There are more minor league teams around the Puget Sound than you can shake a stick at, and they all have good attendance.  A pro team would have a fan base that would rival the Seahawks.

And this is why Kalifornia will never be "home"

I'm pretty sure I stole that from here.

New Jersey slips further into Hell

The State of New Jersey is threatening to terminate a parent's rights and put his son up for adoption because the kid was twirling a pencil "like a gun".

This is not a joke.

The proper response to this kind of idiocy and insanity is to burn down the building that houses the government doing the threatening.  Preferably with the people who initiated this insanity still inside the building.

What is this "cup" you speak of?

I keep hearing about something called the "World Cup" on the news.  What is this "World Cup"?  There's only one cup in sports worth mentioning, and that's Lord Stanley's Cup, now in the possession of the LA Kings.  Previously it belonged to Chicago.  And before that there were Canadian teams who had it for a while.

Is there some other cup out there?  It can't be very important, whatever it is.

POP QUIZ!  Who was the first American team to win the Stanley Cup?

No using Google!

You've all heard that Cello song, right?

You can probably hum it in your sleep, ever since it re-surfaced several years ago.

Well, here's the entire song, 18+ minutes of glorious music.

I could listen to that all day.

Here's a happier post

But NSFW.  So you, at the work computer, pissing away your Saturday.....  GET YOUR FINGER AWAY FROM THAT BUTTON!

Go home and look, you perv.

Democrats always throw away military victory

My father served two tours in Viet Nam, and then watched as the Democrats in Congress cut all aid and support to South Viet Nam, ensuring that North Viet Nam would win the war.

I'm watching Iraq collapse because the Democrats once again surrendered, ran away, gave up, pissed their pants, sniveled, and cut support to Iraq.  Cut support?  Hell, cut off DIPLOMACY.  Acted like Iraq didn't exist.  Turned their back and slithered as far away from Iraq as possible.

Watching Obama throw away every sacrifice we made in Iraq makes me want to puke.  I think I have an understanding of how my father felt as the helicopters were leaving Saigon.

Given how the Democrat American Communist Party behaves while their in power, why would any single country ever trust America to be an ally, when they know that all it takes is one election, one dipshit like Obama being thrust forward onto a stage he cannot and will not be prepared for, to throw that bond into the trash?

So the IRS lost two years worth of emails?

I wonder what would happen if a person being audited suddenly up and "lost" two years worth of financial records?

And as multiple people have pointed out, these people are going to be responsible for your medial records under Obamacare.

Isn't that nice?  Isn't that special?  Don't you feel all warm and fuzzy inside?

Busy Day Today

I'm still running full-bore, and I don't see me shutting down for a while.  So, here's another (nsfw) Busy Day Post.

Well, crap

There goes all my free time!  The 100 Classic Baroque songs.

Thanks to this bastard, I now know what I'm going to do for the next week.

Like crack to a Democrat, this music is to me.

A blast from my past

Just surfing around the web a few days ago, and something caught my eye.  Zoomed in.  Zoomed in more.

See that circle?  Young PVT Dave slept there in his bunk, trying to get sleep before the Drill Sergeant gave us a gentle wake-up.

That there, Ladies and Gents, is the former A Co, 787th MP BN.  Now overgrown and probably empty of everything except the ghosts of Drill Sergeants screaming at raw recruits they had to groom into Soldiers.

I'd like to go back there, just to piss on the CTA.  Just once.

Plug your computer into your stereo

And then hit play.

I was looking for beautiful music to lift my mood tonight.

Object achieved.

Amnesty is NOT "Immigration Reform"

Look, I will hardly object if someone honestly says that we need to reform our immigration system.  The system we have now is broken, combining the worst aspects of entrenched government beaurocracy with the worst aspects of the DMV into one monstrosity of failure.

But just allowing people over the borders willy-nilly isn't the answer.  You should not be allowed into this country for free just because you live next door.  Amnesty is not immigration reform.

So every time I hear some dipshit on Capitol Hill crying and whining about how Eric Cantor's loss makes it impossible for "Immigration Reform" to happen, I want to throw something across the room.  There is plenty of chances for Immigration Reform to happen.  We the People just don't want to hear another politician explain to us why we should allow our country to be over-run with millions of free-money seeking Mexicans.

By the way, how would you like to be some guy from Slovenia or India or Ghana, who's following the rules and dealing with the INS for five to ten years, only to have some wetback swim across the Rio Grande and be told "Congratulations!  You're an American now!"  You really think that's fair?  If so, beat yourself in the face with a brick, because you need something to knock the stupid out of you.

Eric Cantor goes down

And the quote of the day goes to some political analyst schmuck:

“The GOP establishment’s problem isn’t with the Tea Party. It’s with Republican voters.”

After the GOP got shellacked in 2006 and 2008, they didn't do any soul searching.  They didn't try to figure out what had gone wrong.  They were rescued by the Tea Party after Obamacare was rammed down this country's throat, and they've spent the following years doing everything they could to destroy the Tea Party.

You cannot win elections by shitting all over the people who you want to vote for you.  Witness John McCain.

You cannot win elections by playing kissy-face with the Democrat American Communist Party.  Witness Mitt Romney.

Eric Cantor was a D.C. Republican, which means he spent way too much time being nice to the Democrat American Communist Party, who are at this point and time the sworn enemies of the USA.  That got him ousted.  While I'm happy to see him go, I'm upset over the fact that he needed to go in the first place.  If he had actually stood on the principals that the GOP claims to stand for, he never would have faced a primary opponent.

The Predictable Result of Running Away

al-Qaeda takes Mosul.

Which means that al-Qaeda is now in control of a sizable chunk of Iraq.

Obama the gutless dipshit has thrown away every single life that was lost in Iraq.  Thrown it away for political purposes, just like he threw away the lives in Benghazi for political purposes.  Imagine if Roosevelt had run away from Germany while the Nazis were still around, and then the Nazi army had retaken Munich, or Leipzig.  If Obama had actually SPOKEN TO THE IRAQI GOVERNMENT before he pulled out every last US troop, or make arrangements to keep a small force there as backup, I'm willing to bet that al-Qaeda would have been stepped on like a bug when it started popping it's head back up.

We had already proven that the Iraqi forces could beat the terrorists when they had the US standing behind them.  By the time we left, we weren't even going out on many missions; we provided support for the Iraqi troops who did so.  And al-Qaeda was on the run.

This is just another example of how badly Obama has screwed things up.  He's the anti-Midas.  Everything he touches turns to shit.  He's an incompetent, weak, gutless, narcissistic, egomaniacal, pathetic buffoon.  And we have even more of him to look forward to in the future.  We haven't hit bottom yet.  That stuttering clusterfuck of a miserable failure is still in office; we have a long ways down to go.

Travels

Every time I go somewhere like San Diego, or San Marcos, or Oceanside, I realize just how big a shithole Los Angeles truly is.

And then I remember that I have to go back and live in LA.  It's like rubbing salt into an open wound.

Broke down

Finally went to the doctor today.  After five days of just getting worse, I figured it was time.  I don't want to be the guy who runs to the doc for every little sniffle and pain, but when you start coughing up solid chunks it's time to get a little more help.

D-Day 70 years later

I can't write too well at this moment.  But I couldn't let the day go by without mentioning it.

I'm past wondering

...whether or not Bergdahl was a deserter.  He was either a deserter or crazy.

I'm now wondering why the hell he was ever brought to Afghanistan in the first place; or at least why he wasn't sent back at the first possible chance.  Maybe the option wasn't open to his CO.  Maybe it wasn't feasible at the time.

But there is no way in hell we should have traded five Taliban leaders for his ass.  Nope.

"Love" doesn't mean "Peace"

One of my biggest complains with modern Christianity today is the common attempt to turn God into a flower-power hippy love-child.  "But God is LOVE, man!  God loves you!"

Yes, he does.  And, like a father loves his son, he will not hesitate to beat you if necessary.  Like a Soldier loves his brother-in-arms, he will give you the ability to lay a righteous smack-down when needed.

Og has been getting all manufacture-ish, and put out a set of pistol grips that I friggin' love.  That particular bit of scripture is my email tag-line.  PS 144.  "Blessed be the Lord my God, who teaches my hands to fight and my fingers to war."

Does that sound like Hippy Jesus to you?

Sick as hell

Sorry, I got nothing.

Morons like this are why Obama gets elected

Dude, you mean I have to pay for all that crap I voted for?  No way!  I can't afford that!  Somebody needs to do something!

“I’m at the breaking point,” said Gretchen Gardner, an Austin artist who bought a 1930s bungalow in the Bouldin neighborhood just south of downtown in 1991 and has watched her property tax bill soar to $8,500 this year.
“It’s not because I don’t like paying taxes,” said Gardner, who attended both meetings. “I have voted for every park, every library, all the school improvements, for light rail, for anything that will make this city better. But now I can’t afford to live here anymore. I’ll protest my appraisal notice, but that’s not enough. Someone needs to step in and address the big picture.”

The stupidity and ignorance on display with this woman is simply mind-boggling.  She votes for things that require tax dollars, and then complains when she gets taxed to pay for the things she voted for.

This woman is literally being hit in the face with the consequences of her own actions and she CANNOT.  UNDERSTAND.  WHAT.  IS.  HAPPENING.

This is an Obama voter, folks.  This is the disease that is eating American from the inside out.  This level of stupidity can't be cured by an outside force.  This is the cancer that produces symptoms like Obama and his administration.  This person literally cannot understand the concept of cause and effect.

And when she sells her house, she'll move to a new location, where the cycle will repeat itself all over again, because a liberal cannot learn from their mistakes.  If they could learn from their mistakes, they wouldn't be liberal.

And yet again

Obama screws things up even worse than if he'd done nothing.  I mean, breaking the law, negotiating with terrorists, and exchanging five terrorist leaders for one POW is bad enough.

I don't think Obama's worst enemy could predict how badly this would blow up in his face.

Monday, June 02, 2014

Swap

So Obama traded five terrorist leaders for one POW, did he?

Did he hit them up with the plague first?  Maybe some Ebola?  If not, why not?

Look, there's a reason you don't negotiate with terrorists.  If you reward their hostage taking, they take more hostages.  But of course, that's only a political inconvenience for the SCOAMF, as Obama really doesn't give a damn about the military unless they can be used to further his political career.

So, there was an "earthquake" today

I think it was just the LA Kings fans reacting as their team beat Chicago to advance to the finals, winner to lift Lord Stanley's Cup.

There's a lot about LA sports that I can't stand.  I hate the Lakers with a passion.  Don't care about the Dodgers.  Could care less about the Clippers.  The Angles aren't even in Los Angeles, never were, so they don't count, and besides, they're in the division with my Mariners so I hate them anyways.

But the Kings are fun to watch.  And they have good fans, not the typical Los Angeles BS crap you see in LA.

And by "good", I mean ready to heap abuse on visiting teams at the drop of a hat.

I need some beauty

So...

Enjoy

Awesome scenery

I can't find a way to embed the video on the blog here, you'll have to go to the website.  It's a video shot from the cockpit of a passenger jet landing in Queensland, New Zealand.

The part where they fly into the clouds and have to rely on their instruments to guide them would have me puckered up so damn hard they'd have to unscrew me from the seat, especially when the last thing you see before you go into the clouds is a big mountain right in front of you.

Maya Angelou is dead

Have you ever read anything of hers that you weren't forced to read by someone else, such as a teacher in high school?

I haven't.

Yeah, you can call me a troglodyte for that if you wish.  I'm the guy with the collective works of Edgar Allen Poe on his shelf, next to Robert Heinlein and the Federalist Papers.  But I never once ever felt the urge to read an entire book of Angelou's poetry  There was no there there, if you get my drift.

Liberalism is a mental disorder

First you have some douchebag named Toure shooting himself in the dick with his keyboard by claiming that Holocaust survivors made it out alive via "the power of whiteness".

Now you have Ronan Farrow, who's famous because of Woody Allen, making Schindler's List jokes.

Do they put crazy into the water at the Commie Propaganda Center MSNBC studios?

What drove the UCSB shooter?

I've seen a lot of posts regarding why the little maniac did what he did, but I think it can be summed up in one paragraph:

Elliot Roger grew up steeped in liberal dogma, subscribed whole-heartedly to progressive ideology, and possessed an entitlement mindset that you would expect from a Red Diaper Doper Baby that grew up in Hollywood.  He was a microcosm of the Democrat Party; emotionally stunted, sexually frustrated intellectual midgets who think that the entire world owes them something.  And his actions are also a microcosm of what the Democrat Party wants to do if they don't get their way.

The fact that the Left is once again desperate to pin this guy on any kind of right-wing group only shows that they know exactly who and what he is.  They look at Elliot Roger, and they're staring into a mirror.

Huh...

If I asked you who gave this quote:

People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf

...most of you would shout "GEORGE ORWELL!"

But as I just learned today, that is incorrect.  Makes you wonder a little bit about the other quotes that are used quite frequently out there.

Now, don't get me wrong - Orwell stated several things that in essence are that quote, but he never directly came out and said those exact words.

Ragin' Dave's Quote of the Day, Procreation edition

Procreation is the biological purpose of sex, after all, and as the Contraceptive Culture encourages us to have unnatural sex — to thwart the natural purpose of sex — it also disconnects sex from love, marriage and parenthood, so that sex becomes a meaningless recreation of no more ultimate consequence than a video game.

Sex, as like everything else, has complex biological functions, reactions and counter-reactions that are part and parcel to the act.  One of those functions is the production of hormones that literally cause us to bond with our sexual partner on an emotional level.

However, those bonds are funny little things; the more you make and subsequently break, the harder it is to build another bond with a different person.  It all boils down to brain chemistry.  A bond you make with one person, so long as you're faithful to them, gets stronger over time.  Humans are literally meant to bond with a partner and stick with them.  We're designed for monogamy, believe it or not.  But having partner after partner after partner leaves the brain worn out, as it attempts to build those chemical links that provide emotion with person after person after person, until the brain figures out that it's not worth trying to boost that neural link, given that it's going to be discarded after 24 hours.  So after a lengthy period of promiscuous sex, it is now harder to bond with your sexual partner, and less likely that you'll have an emotional attachment with them.

So in other words, there is a very good chance that your promiscuous lifestyle can screw up your marriage later.

Is it any wonder that the divorce rate is so high?

Quote taken from R.S. McCain.

Busy Again

Gonna be away from my computer for the better part of a couple of days, and to be quite honest when I actually have time to sit down and relax I won't be doing it with a keyboard in front of me.  So let me load of a few things to keep people happy with the free ice cream machine we got here....

Oh, that's just awesome

"What you call privilege is me just being better than you!"

Well, yes.  Anyone who thinks that I'm "privileged" is an idiot.  I got to where I am because I'm working my ass off, and I'll continue to work my ass off until I get to where I want to go.  And then I'll work my ass off, because that's what it takes to stay there.

And I'll hopefully die an old, old happy man with no ass.

I want to live in a place

that has no leash laws.

I mean, you have people living in RV's, camped out at a local park, with fat old men pissing on a tree in broad daylight, but do you think the cops give a shit about them?  Hell no, because those fuckers are still there after four months or more.

The homeless guys camped out all over the area?  Not a problem, buddy!

But a clean-cut guy running with his dogs in the early morning?  OBVIOUSLY A LAW-BREAKER WHO MUST BE DEALT WITH!!!!!

Los Angeles needs to fall into the ocean and drown.  For the good of humanity.

Good God....

I knew P.J. O'Rourke could be acidic when he wants to be - this letter to the 2014 graduates of Rutgers University is like forcing them to take a bath in hydrochloric acid, and then dumping a little lemon juice on them for good measure.

You need to study history, so that it doesn’t come around again and, per Santayana, bite you in the Ukraine. You’re thinking, “Santayana—historically great guitar player.”
You need philosophy, not the modern bull session kind but the Socratic method of “What the hell am I thinking?” And what the hell were you thinking, majoring in History of Film? At least you got to see So-crates in action in Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.
You need literature and the arts so you can read something longer than a Beyoncé tweet and throw Bartok into the iPod mix and hear what Jay Z is up against experimenting with music.

The more I look at modern universities, the more I see indoctrination centers full of group-think and people striving to be the most special victim, because victimhood trumps accomplishment on a college campus.

I'll get my degree online, thank you.  Less victimhood bullshit, more learning.

I want this so very much

And I want to put it in my desk at work, so that when people open up the door to the upper storage cabinet they freak right the hell out.

Anyone know where I can get that?

!!!!!

There's nothing that says "Los Angeles"

Like having the electricity in your house flicker for no apparent reason.

I'm serious here, folks.  Los Angeles is just a third-world shithole that happens to be attached to the USA.  And apparently, it used to be WORSE!!!!

I can't think of any reason why someone would want to live here.

Ooops, sorry.

Been a crazy busy two days.  Forgot to put up a post today or yesterday.  Let me make it up to you.

Why does the USDA need machine guns?

The US Department of Agriculture just requested .40 Cal S&W Submachine guns.  Why?

According to the solicitation, the Dept. of Agriculture wants the guns to have an "ambidextrous safety, semiautomatic or 2 round [bursts] trigger group, Tritium night sights front and rear, rails for attachment of flashlight (front under fore group) and scope (top rear), stock collapsible or folding," and a "30 rd. capacity" magazine.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the military is sworn to protect and defend the US Constitution, while un-elected beaurocrats in the USDA don't have that safeguard.

In short, they know they can't get the military to start firing on civilians, so they're going to get someone else to do so.

Let me introduce you to Haiden.  Or Hayden.  Take your pick.

NSFW, got it?

Priorities

When the level of vitriol aimed at Tim Tebow for being a Christian matches the level of vitriol aimed at Michael Sam for being gay, let me know.  Until then, I'm going to do my level best to ignore the sports anchors all masturbating live on TV about how a gay man just got drafted into the NFL.

You know what?  If Michael Sam weren't gay, he wouldn't have been drafted.

Sorry, but thems the facts.  Sam was a dismal show at the combine.  He had the sixth lowest 40 time out of 200+ combine attendees. Did he even have a pro day?  If so, I didn't see it trumpeted in the news, which means it either did not happen, or was embarrassing to the people pushing the pro-gay agenda.

No, I think the NFL saw Sam dropping in the draft, and made a few phone calls to certain teams and offered a deal.  I don't know what that deal is, and I don't know if we'll ever know what it is.  But Sam wasn't good enough to be draft material.

Oh, and for all of you people sputtering about SEC co-Defensive player of the year?  There's a certain Mr. Jeffcoat who was the Big-12 Defensive player of the year who signed as an undrafted free agent with my Seahawks.  He'd love to have a chat with out about what being the DPotY means to your draft status.

The bottom line is that Michael Sam wasn't very good, and if he were not gay, he wouldn't be in the news at all.

Which is probably why he came out when he did.

There are police helicopters circling my block.

Again.

At least they didn't shut down the road this time.

I don't think many of you people understand when I say things like "I want LA to fall off and drown in the ocean" that I am not joking.

Can't come quick enough

Experts predict thousands dead in big LA quake.

Well, that would be my dream come true, don't know about all of you out there.....

I don't think I hated Los Angeles nearly as much as I did before I went on vacation, and spent time in areas where people actually care about someone other than themselves, where the air wasn't brown, where traffic, while heavy, wasn't full of arrogant, selfish pieces of shit.  And then had to come back to Los Angeles.  Gack.

I think that having LA fall off into the ocean would be one of the nicest things California could do for the rest of the country, short of dropping San Fransicko into a deep, dark hole and filling it in with liquid hot magma.

Books, books, books

One of the gifts the Ragin' Mrs. got for me at Christmas was an Amazon Kindle Paperwhite.  No fancy tablet, just a book reader that I could take with me.

Holy hell, have I been using the heck out of that thing.  There are more books at a discount for digital copies than you can shake a stick at.  I think I paid full price for a grand total of four books; all the rest have been on sale, discounted or free.

I'm not going to argue about Amazon vs. Barnes and Noble, because quite honestly I like them both.

If you have someone who likes to read, get them one of these things.  Nook or Kindle, take your pick.  I must have read six books while I was on vacation, and they all fit on my reader.  I didn't have to pack them away at the end, I just archived them off the reader onto my computer.

Yes, I'm finally entering the modern age.

For the record

Eleanor Clift has been a shit-eating Democrat Party apologist douchebag for years.  So to hear something this vile and disgusting come out of her mouth should be no surprise.

There is nothing too low for Eleanor Clift to vomit out of her filthy cock-holster if it might help her Democrat Party masters.  She's a filthy, disgusting, slimy anti-American piece of shit from the word "Go", and always has been.

The anti-Midas touch

Where everything you touch turns to shit.  Turns out that Eric Shinseki has that.

You don't know who Eric Shinseki is?  He was the Chief of Staff of the Army back in 2001 who mandated that all Soldiers wear a beret as their headgear.  He wanted everyone to wear the beret in order to improve the esprit de corps.  This pissed off just about everybody.

The Rangers hated it, because Shinseki demanded that all Army Soldiers wear a black beret, and the black beret was the Ranger's color.  They now wear tan.

The rest of the Army hated it because we now had to wear a floppy hat that took two hands to get it sitting on your head correctly, that held in heat thanks to the fact that it was BLACK and WOOL, and stank to high heaven after a period of constant wear.

All in all, it was a decision that was a self-inflicted dick-stomping, and rather than improving the esprit de corps of the Army it did the opposite.  The beret was universally reviled by everyone who had to wear it, and in 2011 the Sergeant Major of the Army, who had listened to the troops, ordered that the soft cap be returned as the headgear for daily wear in garrison.  The beret still exists for the Class A Uniform.

So I told you all that just so I can tell you all this - the same guy who made that colossal mistake was put in charge of the Department of VA back in 2009.

And now we get this.....

A Veterans Affairs employee at the VA Medical Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming, has been placed on administrative leave after CBS News obtained an email showing an employee directing his staff on how to game the appointments system to make it appear as though veterans were being seen within the VA's 14-day directive.

And this is on top of the crap going on at the Phoenix VA...

Look, the VA has been in trouble for a while.  You can't conduct a thirteen year war and expect that the facilities you had in place before the war are going to be adequate to deal with the amount of healthcare that's going to be required by the troops coming home.  But Shinseki has been in place for five years now.  And what, if anything, has he done?

Everything he touches, it seems, turns to shit.....

Oh, the horror!

Yeah, keep in mind that this number is only valid if you don't take into account the number of military positions that were lost.  And since I'm neck deep in that area right now, let me assure you - the military is getting hacked into chunks and tossed out in the trash.

Free Money

And all you have to do is learn a trade that will make you employable up to the day you die.  And someone else pays for that education.

Dear Lord, were I not already in the military for the long haul, I'd jump on this like a dog on a bone.

Got home late

Crawled into bed way past midnight, and got maybe four hours of shut-eye before I was back in the office.  Keep in mind that technically, I'm still on leave.  But I spent the better part of the morning in the office trying to get things in order because the people up the chain have screwed things up so badly that everybody is hopping and popping trying to limit the damage.

I can't wait to leave this job.  Lordy, I can't wait to leave this job.

One Hour, Seven Minutes

I didn't break any land-speed records, but I'm only one minute off of my pace from 22 years ago, when I was 50 pounds lighter.

Not too damn bad, I'd say.

In Lieu of Actual Content, part 6

Hey!  Guess what I'm doing?

Last time I did it was in 1991.  How's that for a blast from the past?  I want to see what my time is compared to the young, stupid, out-of-shape me.

Of course, if I recall correctly, the route was only 10k back then....
