Ground my own beef. Made burger patties. Cooked up some Black Forest bacon. Drained pan, cooked patties in the little bacon grease left over. Flipped patties, added a good Irish cheese. Added pickles.
Plated burger on donuts left over from church.
Oh yes, it was damn good.
Yes, I ran this morning. Why do you ask?

I had hoped
That the Leftists cared more about good writing than their political ideology.
I know, I was a fool. It was but a faint hope, but yet I hoped it.
Looking at the voting totals for the Hugo Awards, the Leftists burned them down rather than allow anyone else to win one who wasn't of the correct political persuasion. They used scorched earth tactics to make sure nobody outside of their politically approved group got an award.
So be it. The rules are set for 2016, where "No Award" may very well take every category.

Earworm
Heard this song over the radio, can't get it out of my head.
Even though it's kind of a mellow tune, this is one rocking song. Watching the live versions out there you can see the musicians just kind of take off and go crazy.

On that whole "Ashley Madison" hack
Ummmm... first up, you shouldn't be cheating on your spouse.
Second of all, you shouldn't be entering your CREDIT CARD INFO into a WEBSITE so that you can cheat on your spouse.
That some folks did both, and now are getting caught up in the hack of that website, well.... Karma's a bitch, ain't it?

Daddy's got a new pair of shoes
Well, erm... yep, I do. I've been running in minimalist shoes for a while now, so I finally tried out a pair of Vibram Five-Finger shoes.
They're..... interesting. I have to work to get my toes into their respective areas, but once they're on they stay on. I did my hill running today, and other than having fabric between my toes they felt pretty darn good.
I don't know if I'd spend the $100+ for these shoes all the time. I got my pair for $50 off of Woot, so I didn't pay full price. We'll see if I end up liking them more than my regular running shoes.
If nothing else, I think they'll make awesome hiking shoes.

Another Illegal Alien
Killing the Americans that Americans don't want to kill.
Don't worry, Jeb Bush says it's an act of love, or something.
Hyde was in the country illegally from Belize in Central America and awaiting a court hearing as an illegal immigrant, having crossed the Texas border earlier this year, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.

One of the nice things
About the Taurus Millennium is that it throws the brass pretty much in the same place every time. Picking up brass was easy, because it was all in the same spot. Didn't travel too far.
My .45 will throw brass in just about a 180 degree arc to the right. Don't know why.

Riddle me this
How can a government force a dairy to label it's milk as "imitation" because it has not added anything to it?
The people responsible for this travesty need to be tarred, feathered, and hung from the nearest lamp-post. It really is that simple.
Today’s comes to us from Florida, where the Ocheesee Creamery is being forced to dump gallons upon gallons of good, natural skim milk because the state is requiring the business to label its good, natural skim milk “imitation” because they haven’t added anything to it.

Five Truths
about Illegal Aliens that the GOP must accept.
Or die. Either ways good for me.
There is no reason for any GOP candidate to suck up to people who's first act in this country was to break the law that the rest of us have to follow. None. Period.
Or die. Either ways good for me.
There’s a yuuuuuuuuge upside for the first sane GOP candidate who becomes known for taking a line on illegal aliens that is tough but fair – with the fairness being to the American citizens who have been stuck paying the price in money and blood during decades of elite apathy.
There is no reason for any GOP candidate to suck up to people who's first act in this country was to break the law that the rest of us have to follow. None. Period.
Done driving
We put a little extra road time in today, because quite honestly the KOA we had our reservations at was approximately 2.1 km away from the surface of the sun.
At least, that's what it felt like when we pulled in. That was our fault. We should have known better. The only people hooked up at that place were folks with RVs that had A/C units. Had we arrived half an hour earlier we would have upgraded to a cabin with A/C, but it didn't happen. So we cooked dinner, ate, and ran. That's more driving than I wanted to do, but at least I'm at home with a cigar and a glass of bourbon.
Listened to lots of news on the radio. Will give thoughts once I have them collected.

While Traveling
The wife and I are trying to keep our budget from blowing out due to the cost of staying in hotels at night. So we're camping every night. I hadn't even thought of KOA, but damned if they don't do the trick. And it's typically about a quarter of the cost of a hotel.
Yeah, you have to set up a tent. Deal with it. One-fourth the cost. And I'm on a budget. I'm happy.

The Northwest is burning
Idaho is covered in smoke from the top to the bottom of the state. It's unreal.
Many of these fires were started by lightning strikes in hard-to-reach areas. But many of them continue because the forests they are burning have been so mismanaged under by FedGov and the eco-freaks who control it. I've gone into the damage that the eco-freaks agenda does to the national forests; you can search for all the different posts if you want. But we're seeing the evidence and damage in real time right now.

They paved over the fields
Over a decade ago I wrote a little post about a woman named Patti Gora, who was leading lawsuits to stop the grass seed farmers from burning their fields after harvest. Burning the fields was the only real way to clear out any weeds and prevent their harvest from becoming contaminated. Eliminate burning, and you eliminate the farmers.
Jacklin Seed shut down their facility a while ago. The building is for sale. The eco-freaks won, and the farmers lost. So what happened?
The farmers sold their fields to the folks who would buy them. And those folks were the property developers from California and New York who were using the eco-freaks to do their dirty work. And they build houses upon the miles and miles of prairie, and all that open land was paved over.
Because, you see, the eco-freaks who claimed to love Gaia and hate the pollution of field burning didn't actually give a shit about the environment. They were bought and paid for shills of the people who wanted that farmland to build houses on. They have ALWAYS been bought and paid for shills of someone else.
Tell me, if you actually gave a damn about the environment, what would you prefer to have - miles upon miles of prairie and grassland that was burned once a year? Or miles and miles of paved roads and cars and houses, with fertilizer and petroleum products and other pollutants?
Let this be an abject lesson for anyone who's on the fence, or for anyone who's under attack from the emotion-driven arguments of the eco-freaks. The people of the eco-freak movement don't know a damn thing about the real environment. They don't know a damn thing about what's best for the environment. They are tools, being used by people much smarter then them, to accomplish what those smart people want.
The Rathdrum Prairie is disappearing. It's being paved over, and that happened because the eco-freaks put the farmers out of business. This may not have been what the eco-freaks wanted, but it's what their masters wanted, and the masters got what they wanted because the eco-freaks are brainless, weak-minded, spineless simpering maggots.
Patti Gora is still calling herself a "clean air ambassador". Her unhinged accusations against the grass seed farmers continue to this day. And she's just as big a tool of her masters now as she was then. Remember that when someone claims that they just "want the president and Congress to know that the protection of human health is critical to strong communities"
They're full of shit. They're tools, being used by someone else.

The GOP is screwed
Read this.
And then read this.
Why is Trump still ahead in polls? Because a huge chunk of former GOP voters are so pissed off at the betrayal of the GOP that they're willing to let things burn down than continue the charade of "representative" government.

We’ll be honest with you Mr. Erikson – Trump could have shot Megyn Kelly in the face on stage and we’d still vote for him. After all… one does not criticize their wrecking ball when it’s going about it’s assigned task. After 2015′s “year of congressional betrayal,” it is patently obvious that this war is no longer about “principles” or “beliefs” – such notions have no proper place when mentioned in the same sentence as “the Republican party.”The GOP is reaping what it sowed over the past six years. Or two decades. Trump is what happens when the GOP alienates so many people that they would prefer to see the destruction of the modern Whig Party rather than suffer through yet another Republicrat.

It's been dry in the Northwest lately
So consequently, the farmland of the Palouse has been turned into a rather fine dust. And the winds have picked that dust up and dumped it all over Northern Idaho.
I can feel the grit on my teeth right now. Although my parent's yard is getting some great topsoil deposited on it.

Hardcover books sell for what these days... $20? $25?
John C. Write responds to a review of his newest book Somewhither (which I'm reading right now, review to follow sometime later).
So he gets more than twice the scratch from a $4.99 purchase on Amazon than he does from a $20 purchase at a brick and mortar store.
Tell me again how Amazon is destroying the book market in this country? I can't afford $20 for a new book. I can afford $4.99. And the author makes over twice what he would normally make when I purchase the $4.99 Kindle book.
Yeesh.

I am happy to be “shoplifting” under such circumstances: I get paid more than twice my cut of the take had the reader bought this book in hardback.

So, the new gun
Took it for it's maiden voyage today. Put 100 rounds through it. Please keep in mind that I'm not a gun writer, or a gun reviewer. I'm just a guy who likes to shoot, so don't expect any chronograph measurements or physics lessons from me.
You can read the specs on it here. I won't re-hash them. Here's my initial impression.
It's a steel slide on a polymer frame. I originally thought that might give it too much "kick" for a small gun. The grip is textured and contoured to fit your hand. The grip itself is small-to-medium, but the magazine has a small extention that makes it large enough for my paws to grip. Without that I wouldn't have purchased the gun, as my pinky would have been hanging off the bottom. Magazine holds 12 rounds. Sights are white dot, with the rear sights being adjustable.
I shot the pistol while I was standing with no support. Hey, I'm in the country. My target was a cardboard box sitting on a brush pile that I made yesterday. I figured that if I were to use this gun in a defensive situation, I wouldn't have a bench rest or sandbags. Ammo was Blazer Brass 115 grain FMJ.
My first ten rounds downrange at 15 feet grouped at 3 inches. I moved back to 25 feet and could still make a 4 inch group with the second ten round magazine. My worries about the weight of the slide giving the gun more "kick" was unfounded. In fact, the recoil was minimal, all things considered. My .38 Special has more of a kick. Acquiring the target was easy, and re-acquiring it was quick. I had no problem getting the gun back on target for a second shot. I did a number of "double-tap" shots, and while I wasn't as accurate as a single aimed shot all my shots hit within an 8x11 square.
The grip was comfortable; I didn't have to fiddle around or play with my grip in order to get the gun where I wanted it. It's one of the more natural grips I've found in a pistol, and that's saying something. My big problem with Glocks is that they just don't fit my hands. I had no problem with this gun.
All I did right out of the box was wipe off some of the gun grease they had on it. I gave it a good wipe-down after the range session, and there wasn't much to really clean. It ran without a hitch right out of the box with no malfunctions or FTF.
Add in the fact that this gun's MSRP is just a hair over $300 - it's a steal. I've fired guns that cost twice as much that aren't as accurate or as fun to shoot as the Taurus.
All in all, this is a fun gun to shoot. It's accurate and easy to control, which is really what you want in a carry pistol. I have a feeling that I'm going to be putting lots of rounds downrange with this gun in the next year or so.

I am sitting outside
Smoking a Gurkha Beauty, sipping Maker's Mark, and listening to the coyotes yip and howl in the woods.
This is what my life is supposed to be like.
This is what my life is supposed to be like.
It called to me
Who was I to resist?
So I now have a 9mm to go with my other guns. I'd been looking for a carry gun for hot climates. My .45 is nice, but it's a big frame and it prints in light clothing. The Taurus should work just fine in a climate where I can't throw a sweatshirt or flannel over my t-shirt, but have to rely on much lighter clothing.
The reviews I saw on it were rather complementary, it felt good in my hand, and the sights fit my eyes. I'll give a report once I run 100 rounds through it.

A new new computer
So, I had gotten a new computer a while back. MacBook Air. It's a sweet little job, fires up quick, nice and light. And then the Ragin' Mrs' computer went Tits up.
Sigh.
As we're doing our reviews and figuring out what she wants, she keeps casting gazes at my MacBook Air.
Fine. Let's go get one.
Since A) we're not rich, and B) I'm military, we go to AAFES and check out what they have. MacBook Air? Nope. MacBook Pro? Yep. Price? It's on sale, and the price is lower than we would be paying for a new MacBook Air OR a plain MacBook. By a wide margin.
So she gives me those little eyes....
Anyways, I'm now using my MacBook Pro, while the Mrs. has reformatted my two-month-old MacBook Air and has claimed it for herself.
She's happy. And the one thing that bugged me about the Air was the lack of a CD/DVD drive, and now I have one. Plus more memory for my various things.
I'm still traveling. On holiday, as it were. Sorry for the light posting, but I'm not at a computer very much right now.

The Debate
I just saw a poll that showed the only politician to improve his standings after the debate is Ted Cruz. The other folks who improved their standings were non-politicians (Fiorina and Carson).
Ya think the GOP is going to listen?
Nah. Me neither.

No Irish Need Apply
One of the greatest harms of Leftist ideology is the way they inject their politics into everything they do. Like claiming historical facts never happened just because the group isn't one of the favored victim status groups of today.
You cannot trust any "scientific" information that comes out of a Leftist. Social Justice Warriors ALWAYS LIE.
As an aside, if you want to know how much the Irish (and Catholics) were hated, look up the Mass Rocks. The Irish were forbidden by the English from celebrating their faith in their churches. So they had to say Mass on rocks hidden from view of population centers. And often, when the Brits would find a priest saying Mass, they would slaughter him and as many of the congregation as they could.
Think about THAT as you ponder how much you're willing to suffer for your faith in America today.
All of this would have been written off as a myth if it weren’t for Rebecca Fried, a rising high school freshman—who one of the preeminent scholars on the Irish diaspora in the United States now calls a “hero” and “quite extraordinary”—and who simply couldn’t believe it, either.
Rebecca never set out to prove the thesis wrong. She was just interested in an article her dad brought home from work one day.

Aaaaaand, Puerto Rico defaulted
You do NOT want this as the 51st state, folks.
Take it from someone who used to live there. They are not American. And that's fine. It's Puerto Rico after all, not Puerto America or American Rico. But all the same, the Leftist ideology that ran PR into bankruptcy is NOT what we need to gather into the fold.
Let them work it out. Hell, we already dump massive sums of cash into that island via federal funding. We don't need to give them more.

This will continue
Until military members are allowed to shoot back.
The Mississippi National Guard says soldiers reported shots fired during a training exercise at Camp Shelby, but no service members were hurt.
The Guard said in a news release Tuesday that the Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center is secure and all personnel accounted for. The news release says the shots were fired from a road near Camp Shelby, but not on the military post’s property.
Give the troops guns. Let them fight back. It's what they are TRAINED TO DO ANYWAYS!

The Fifth Planned Parenthood video drops
And it's just as ugly as the rest of them.
Those who defend Planned Parenthood after all the proof that has come out about their actions only confirm their complete and total lack of humanity. Or a soul. Or anything that might make them something more than a shell, filled with evil, walking the earth to cause harm to others.

GOP Establishment: Everything is Fine!
It's all awesomeness with a side of awesome fries!
Except no it's not. And the GOP is going to run face first into a buzzsaw it created called "pissed off former GOP voters".
Hell, I'm already at that point. The GOP wants to claim that everything is fine? Screw them. They want to tell people to just get in line and vote the way they're told?
Then let me paraphrase Bill Quick: I will burn your entire corrupt party to the ground and sow the embers with salt.

Brains, hard work, and guts
In short, everything that is missing in the US government these days.
My generation is going to be the "What if" generation. What if we hadn't wasted money on worthless government programs and instead spent it on worthwhile pursuits....

I have realized
That despite the massive sums of money spent....
All the hype...
All the new talent brought in....
All the promises made.....
I can't watch the Mariners send yet another abysmal season into the record books. It's too painful. It's like watching a wounded animal thrash around - you know the poor thing is done for, you know it's going to die. you know there's no saving it, but you lack the capability to put the poor thing out of it's misery.
Could the Mariners just please call the season over and give up? Oh wait, they did that thirty days ago.
If'n ya want to read some writing
Go read Larry Correia's beat-down of the local sub-moron at the Guardian.
If it weren't for government subsidies, that douchbag at the Guardian would be begging for pennies on the street corner.
And to be honest, that's all he's really good for.

Jeb Bush gives an interview
In Spanish. To Telemundo. Whereupon he promises to pass comprehensive immigration reform.
If this dillweed gets the GOP nomination, I will not vote for him. Period. Can someone tell me what the notable differences between President Jeb and Emperor Hillary will be?

You cannot trust the GOP leadership
Period. Boehner and McConnell are liars. Flat out liars, who are working for their lobbyists, corporate interests and Obama, in that order.
There is no real difference in what Mitch McConnell and Harry Reid propose as Senate Majority Leader. There is no real difference in the legislation they push forth. There is no real difference in how they conduct business. The only difference is that Mitch McConnell lies about what he's doing, and offers up amendments that he knows have no chance of passing in an attempt to give the voting base some red meat.
Sen. Cruz ripped McConnell a new one on the Senate floor:
And in my opinion he didn't go far enough. I would have called for his removal as Majority Leader right then and there, based on the fact that not one single Republican can trust a single word out of his mouth. Same with Boehner.
The voters wanted to cut spending. Boehner and McConnell gave Obama what he wanted instead - a trillion dollar CRomnibus bill.
The voters wanted Obama's illegal Amnesty order shut down. Boehner and McConnell gave Obama what he wanted instead - they funded it completely.
The voters wanted Obamacare shut down. Boehner and McConnell gave Obama what he wanted instead - they funded it completely.
Voters, to the extent that they knew about it, wanted the Ex-Im bank shut down. Boehner and McConnell gave Obama what he wanted instead - they re-approved it.
Voters wanted the Asian trade agreement limited. Boehner and McConnell gave Obama what he wanted instead - full speed ahead with no real limits.
At every single turn, Boehner and McConnell have given Obama everything he wants while shitting all over the people who put them into office and gave them control of Congress. Boehner and McConnell are doing more damage to the GOP than Obama could ever home and dream of. There is not a single act of Boehner and McConnell that has strengthened this country or given the GOP any kind of an advantage.
John Boehner and Mitch McConnell need to go. They need to step down. They need to be stripped of their positions. Because if they are not, then the GOP is finished. Done. Nobody trusts the GOP while those two are in their positions. And quite frankly, nobody SHOULD trust the GOP while Boehner and McConnell are in charge.

Recruitment
So, let's say you have a middle school kid. They're 13, 14 or so. They go to an anti-bullying conference, and when they get home you ask them what they learned.
And they tell you that they learned how to pleasure their gay partner.
Did you get that? The PARENTS of these children who WORRY about their kids being taught how to have ANAL SEX with strap-ons are the disgusting ones, according to this LGBT director.
Let me go back to the post on Friday, and the quote from Ms. Greyland:
This was a recruiting effort by deviants, perverts and moral degenerates. If my kid attended one of these things, I would A) pull them out of that school and B) Demand that the school district end all relationships with Iowa Safe Schools.
Of course, that's assuming that my kid would be in the drone-manufacturing, ignorance-enforcing mediocrity factory that the US Publik Skool Sistim has become.
And they tell you that they learned how to pleasure their gay partner.
Among the nearly two dozen speakers, “only two” addressed bullying, one attendee estimated, according to EAGnews.org.
The rest of the sessions involved issues such as “how to pleasure their gay partners.”
Middle school girls from Humboldt (pop.: 4,690) had the opportunity to learn “how to sew fake testicles into their underwear in order to pass themselves off as boys.”
One speaker wore a dress made out of condoms to which could be “used as needed.” . . .
Nate Monson, executive director of Iowa Safe Schools, said parents who worry about middle school kids hearing about anal sex with strap-ons and analingus are “disgusting.”
“It’s incredibly frustrating that adults are being the problem and being the bully,” Monson told the Des Moines NBC affiliate. “
Did you get that? The PARENTS of these children who WORRY about their kids being taught how to have ANAL SEX with strap-ons are the disgusting ones, according to this LGBT director.
Let me go back to the post on Friday, and the quote from Ms. Greyland:
What sets gay culture apart from straight culture is the belief that early sex is good and beneficial, and the sure knowledge (don’t think for a second that they DON’T know) that the only way to produce another homosexual is to provide a boy with sexual experiences BEFORE he can be “ruined” by attraction to a girl. What this fake anti-bullying conference really was, was Recruitment. There is no other reason to teach middle age and high school age kids about anal sex, strap-ons, analingus or pleasuring your gay partner. There is no curriculum in K-12 that needs that kind of conference. This was an attempt to get kids involved in gay sex, because they know that once they get them started and tell them it's "safe", or "natural", or "good", the chances of the kids stopping are darn near zilch.
This was a recruiting effort by deviants, perverts and moral degenerates. If my kid attended one of these things, I would A) pull them out of that school and B) Demand that the school district end all relationships with Iowa Safe Schools.

Things that the Left
and much of the Right do not want to hear.
If you don't know who Moira Greyland is, do a little google search. Or just read the linked article.
Natural human sexual biology is set to male+female. That's genetics, folks. The species is designed to propagate. Only male+female can do that. Male+male or female+female will not produce offspring, and the species dies. Anything that deviates from that basic truth is thus un-natural. And the vast, huge, unbelievably large percentage of reasons that deviation is the actions of other people, not "I was born this way!" It could be abuse; sexual, mental, emotional, physical, anything that would cause a person to avoid sex with the opposite gender. I had a Chaplain who pointed out that lack of father figures in a person's life leads to an abnormal development. That abnormality could present itself sexually. It could be, as Ms. Greyland states:
It's uncomfortable to talk about. But it needs to be said.
My observation of my father and mother’s actual belief is this: since everyone is naturally gay, it is the straight establishment that makes everyone hung up and therefore limited. Sex early will make people willing to have sex with everyone, which will bring about the utopia while eliminating homophobia and helping people become “who they really are.” It will also destroy the hated nuclear family with its paternalism, sexism, ageism (yes, for pedophiles, that is a thing) and all other “isms.” If enough children are sexualized young enough, gayness will suddenly be “normal” and accepted by everyone, and the old fashioned notions about fidelity will vanish. As sex is integrated as a natural part of every single relationship, the barriers between people will vanish, and the utopia will appear, as “straight culture” goes the way of the dinosaur. As my mother used to say: “Children are brainwashed into believing they don’t want sex.”

Hippies gonna hippy
Meaning that those drug-soaked retards will always, always, ALWAYS side with their feeeeeeeeeelings and stupidity rather than actually use their brains. In this case, it's the brown acid burnouts of Berkeley trying to protect an invasive non-native species that poses a fire hazard to the rest of the native trees.
About 75 folks at the University of California, Berkeley disrobed over the weekend and mounted eucalyptus trees.
All part of a protest directed at the Federal Emergency Management Agency -- they say the trees pose a fire hazard and need to come down.
“This is a war on trees,” wildlife activist Jack Gescheidt told Campus Reform.
The demonstration was organized by a group Gescheidt founded -- The Tree Spirit Project. Their mission is “to raise awareness of the critical role trees play in our lives, both globally and personally.”
The state of California is trying to remove a grove of Eucalyptus trees. If you're not familiar with that particular species, here's the run down - native to Australia and parts of Asia, so it's not an American tree. The leaves and wood contain a high amount of oil which is rather flammable. I guarantee you've smelled Eucalyptus oil before; it's used in a number of homeopathic products.
The Eucalyptus tree will shed a steady amount of leaves all year long. Before too long, you have a thick carpet of dead Eucalyptus leaves spread on the ground, all of them containing a decent amount of oil. Any spark, any loser tossing a cigarette butt on the ground, and it goes up. This is part of the Eucalyptus tree's method of ensuring that its species survives. The tree itself can withstand the flames and recover from fire damage, but other trees who don't have the ability to deal with fire die out, thus giving the Eucalyptus open space for it's seeds to grow.
Again - it's an invasive, non-native species that presents a fire hazard where ever it grows.
That region was devastated by a deadly fire in 1991. Twenty-five people were killed, 150 injured and more than 3,300 homes were incinerated.
But Gescheidt doesn’t believe trees cause forest fires.
“The claim about trees being flammable is nonsense,” he told Campus Reform. “All living trees and forests are fire resistant.”
Hippies. Dirty, stinking, LSD soaked hippies, so removed from reality that they think wood doesn't burn. I've seen forests burn. I don't care how alive those trees are, if it's hot enough they'll go up like.. well... like firewood. And if those trees just happen to be loaded with oil or pitch?
I hate hippies. I really do.

And the look on Jake Tapper's face as he gets schooled is quite enjoyable.
Seriously, watch him as Fiorina goes after both Hillary and the Media. He just got bitchslapped, and he knows it.

Two new shooters
A friend and I took two brothers who had never fired a gun in their life to the range last night. Started them off with 22LR - a Ruger 10/22 and an old Winchester target rifle that made me drool.
No pics, sorry. I was busy teaching and shooting.
By the time the night was over, one of the guys was dumping six rounds into a space that you could cover with your thumb. He's a natural. The other young man enjoyed himself as well, but says he needs more practice, so could we please take him back to the range at some point in the near future?
Slick, that guy. Very slick.
Two new shooters. Next up we'll try them with some bigger guns.

41 Companies who donate directly to Planned Parenthood
Time to whip out the pen and paper, and ask these companies if they get a share of the money that Planned Parenthood makes from selling baby parts.
Or do it digitally. Email the shit out of 'em. "So Coca-Cola, do you or do you not agree with Planned Parenthood murdering babies and selling their body parts?"
Yank the funding, watch the evil start to shrink.

And just in case there was any question...
Planned Parenthood sells baby parts.
Let me put it this way - what Planned Parenthood does is actually far worse than what they've been accused of doing. Murdering babies is bad enough. Murdering babies and then selling off their body parts for profit?
Way back in Old Testament times, there was a deity named Ba'al that was worshipped around Canaan. Their altar was a metal statue of their god (bronze or gold) with his hands cupped to receive their offering, and a spot to build a fire under the cupped hands. The Ba'al worshippers would build a fire under the cupped hands until the hands were glowing red-hot.
And then they would place their infant children into those hands.
We have modern day Ba'al worship going on right now in America, but instead of a bronze statue and fire pit, it's a "doctor's" office, and cries of "Reproductive Health!" and "Women's Choice!"
But it's murder, the sacrifice of children, no matter what you call it. And it's just as evil now as it was thousands of years ago.

The future belongs to those who show up
And it seems that Europe doesn't even feel like doing that.
Ah well. Maybe I can buy a castle for cheap once the purging happens.
This is the fiesta before the storm, and Europe is busy partying like it’s 1939. These are the New Wilderness Years, except this time the bad guys are going to win.

Arm the troops
Kurt Schlichter lays it out:
I'm qualified on the M16/M4 and the M9. Back when I was in a line unit, I was also qualified on the M2, Mk19 and M249. My qualification score for the M9 pistol is 40 out of 40.
But the gutless wimps up the chain don't think I'm qualified to carry a pistol to protect myself. They didn't think those Marines were qualified to carry and protect themselves. How'd that work out, anyway?
Shamefully, instead of preparing our warriors to confront the enemy, there is talk of having our servicemen and women shed their uniforms and hide inside their offices behind armed guards. That’s right – for the sake of a politician’s narrative and the careers of a few desk jockeys, we will take law enforcement off the streets to stand guard over some of history’s fiercest warriors rather than allow them access to the tools of their trade.
It’s shameful. And it’s personal. Major John Gaffaney was an officer in 2nd Brigade, 40th Infantry Division, when I was in 1stBrigade. I don’t remember him that well, but we would both be part of the pack of captains and lieutenants at the rear of the Division briefing room back in the day. MAJ Gaffaney was shot dead by Nidal Hasan at Fort Hood. He was killed attacking that traitorous piece of slime with a chair.

What I found out on Twitter
Questioning the almighty divinity of Hemp in any of it's forms is akin to telling a feminist to get in the kitchen and make me a sammich.
No, I kid you not. Hempcrete. As in concrete made out of hemp. And these people totally think that this is going to be the next big thing. Oh, and Henry Ford made his engine to run on hemp oil because hemp oil burns the cleanest of anything, and hemp is awesome, and did you know the Declaration of Independence was written on HEMP, like, OMG HEMP IS TEH AWESOMENESS!
(Vellum Parchment, by the way. Not hemp)
It's like their religion. The Hemp Father, Hemp Son, and Hemp Holy Smoke.

The Navy seems pretty far gone
when it comes to liberal shibboleths and their application. Let me break it down for you, so that all the pearl-clutching feminists can go about their business.
I don't want you getting pregnant in the military. Period. That's not your job. That's not fair to the men in your unit who have to pick up your slack. That's not fair to the unit who is unable to fill your position because you haven't left, you've just decided to have a baby and thus remove yourself from day-to-day operations.
If I were king for a day, all women in the military would be given the option - birth control or get out. Too many women have gotten out of deployments by getting knocked up. Too many women eat up valuable resources that could be put to much better use by employing an actual war-fighter rather than another government subsidized baby factory.
Is that harsh? Bullshit. Let me tell you what's harsh - when a unit has to go into a combat zone understrength because SPC Roundheels decided that having a baby was more important than her unit's mission. Yanking troops from one unit to the next to cover vacancies that were opened up by women using their baby makers to get out of doing the jobs that they're getting paid to do.
So the Navy wants to give it's women 18 weeks of paid maternity leave. I wouldn't give them a day. They can make babies on THEIR dime, not on the military's time. Who's going to cover her spot for the four and a half months she's gone?
A man. A man who has no choice but to do both his job and the woman's job, because BABIES! That's harsh.

Numbers don't lie
So much for that whole "sexism in publishing" thing. Turns out that women DO prefer certain areas more than others.
This whole equality movement is a load of horse manure in a barrel. Men and women are NOT equal. The two genders have areas that they outperform the other. The attempt to make the two genders "equal" does nothing but hurt women and feminize men. You want to see a truly happy marriage? Find the one where both the man and woman have their roles, their part to play in the marriage.
Jumping up and down and screaming "WE NEED MORE WIMMINZ IN X Y or Z!" makes no sense at all. Why do we need more women in x, y, or z? Because they're women? Take physics. Why do we need more women in physics? Because they have a vagina? Do breasts make you a better physicist? Do we need more women writing Science Fiction because va-jay-jay?
Here's a novel idea - let people find out what they're good at, and then encourage them in that direction. Base that whole "WE NEED MOAR OF PEEPULS!" on what people are actually good at doing, not on their genitalia. I don't want my doctor to be a doctor because vagina, I want my doctor to be a doctor because they're good at practicing medicine and love what they do!
So, just by the numbers, women prefer to write romance and young adult books. Men prefer to write science fiction, horror, and high fantasy.
Let them do it. Don't demand more women in science fiction because of vagina. That's just a stupid way to go about life.

It's all about who they're afraid of
"They're" in this case being the gutless, pathetic politicians who continue to keep military members unarmed and at the mercy of violent assholes.
Why should a politician care about the military? They have their own armed guards protecting them, so they're safe. Screw the little people, right?
With the recent threats by ISIS to target military personnel and their families, why are we pretending our military bases and stations are not military targets, ripe for exploitation by hidden terrorist assets or lone-wolf nut cases? For the love of God and country, allow our military members who pass standard background checks and have weapons training to carry personal sidearms in or out of uniform. The lives of military members and families alike–families just like mine–could depend on the courage of these armed and honorable individuals.
The lives of four military members could have been saved today in Chattanooga by such a change in policy. May God comfort their families. I doubt, Mr. Obama, that you will.
Sincerely,
A Military Wife

We use it to hold blankets. I cracked my knee against it today. My knee ain't happy with me.
So, ,just to make sure we're all clear on the fine points here...
Planned Parenthood murders babies, and sells their body parts for profit.
People with both a heart and a brain are outraged.
Democrats are outraged that other people are outraged about the murder of babies and sale of their body parts.
I don't know what you can call Planned Parenthood and their dead-baby-part-selling other than "evil". Because if you can't call them evil, then the word "evil" has lost all meaning.

Ragin' Dave's Quote of the Day, the Colonel Writes edition
The most dangerous place in America for a minority is in a Democrat-run big city, and that fact is just not useful.
It's from Kurt Schlicter. Who, if the GOP was actually interested in winning elections, should be on someone's tactics team by now.
In the formerly great country of America
Catholic nuns have to provide birth control.

Obama does his best to cripple the military yet again
I guess women in combat isn't enough, now it's "men who have cut their penises off in order to call themselves women" in combat.
Yep. "Transgender" in the military.
I can't wait for the first tranny to cry that they can't get deployed because they won't get their hormone treatments.
Fuck. This country is going straight down the shitter.

Sigh....
Yet another Jesuit university that can't seem to find it's Catholic teachings with both hands and a flashlight.
So the gay Doctor teaches a course titled “Christianity and Sexual Diversity”.
Of course he does. Here's a clue, folks - Christianity does not need sexual diversity. Christianity needs devotion to Christ, and I don't recall Christ telling his apostles to get their rocks off in diverse ways. Linking Christianity and Sexual Diversity together at a JESUIT university is yet another example of how corrupt and perverted the Jesuit universities in America have become.
And the gay doctor's fake husband is an Episcopalian "Youth" minister.
Of course he is. Because putting someone who is sexually attracted to male bodies in charge of young boys did such wonderful things for the Catholic Alter Boys in the 70's and 80's. And 90's. And 00's. Right?
There will be people who get upset over that last paragraph. To them I ask, if it's OK to put gay men in charge of groups of young boys, why is it NOT ok to put straight men in charge of groups of young girls? Why do the people who demand that gay men be Boy Scout leaders never ever demand that straight men be Girl Scout leaders?
Hmmmmm.....
Jesuit Fordham University will apparently take no action regarding the gay marriage of Dr. Patrick Hornbeck, the chair of the school’s theology department.
Dr. Hornbeck and his partner Patrick Bergquist, an Episcopalian youth minister, participated in a marriage ceremony on June 27th, the day after the U.S. Supreme Court’s controversial Obergfell decision.

Finally
Someone on the GOP side of the house gets their act together.
As long as Republicans run away from topics that might make Democrat American Communist Party members uncomfortable, they will lose. As long as they attack the pro-Illegal alien, pro-criminal party like this, they will win. It's that simple.
Republican White House hopeful and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry slammed President Obama and his administration for not cracking down on illegal immigrants in “sanctuary cities.”
He accused Obama of doing “absolutely nothing to prevent incidents like the murder of Kate Steinle,” a 32-year-old woman who was allegedly shot in San Francisco by a Mexican immigrant laborer who had been deported five times.

Stuffed beef
Some time in the past I wandered over a blog post at CMBlake's joint that showed a gent with a beard stuffing ground beef with all kinds of goodies like onions and mushrooms and topping it with cheese, and then grilling them for an hour till they were done.
"Self" I said to myself, "You can do that."
So I did. And it was good. This particular dinner was ground beef filled with onions, mushrooms, pastrami, topped with smoked mozzarella and wrapped with bacon. I had it in the grill, off-set from the coals at about 325 for an hour.
And then the Ragin' Mrs looks at me and says "Hey.... what if we tried this with a few different concepts? Like maybe spaghetti and meatballs?"
"Self", I said to myself, "You can do that too!" And so I did.
I made the bowls out of ground beef and our home-made Italian sausage (hot). I made a red sauce with onions, garlic, and various Italian herbs. I cooked up some whole-wheat pasta. Whole wheat pasta seems to hold firmer than most other kinds, and since this was going to be cooked twice I wanted to make sure the pasta held up. I filled the bowls with sauce and pasta, then topped it with finally shredded pecorino-romano cheese. Here's the pre-grilled pic:
And here it is on my plate, along with a small loaf of bread:
Once it came off the grill I topped it with a bit more sauce.
Yes. It was good.
Now go forth, and GRILL!
(Link to the post at CMBlake is here. Found it! They called it "Beer Can Bacon Burgers")

Yet another illegal alien
killing folks in the USA.
I've heard the argument "Well, we have Americans that do that too!" Yep. So that means we don't need to IMPORT any criminal shitheads and allow them to live here, doesn't it?
Gustavo Castillo Gutierrez, a 26 year old illegal alien previous deported three times has been charged with the death of sports journalist Bob Barry Jr. According to police, Gutierrez who was under the influence of cocaine at the time made an illegal u-turn from the right turn lane in front of Barry causing the crash.
I've heard the argument "Well, we have Americans that do that too!" Yep. So that means we don't need to IMPORT any criminal shitheads and allow them to live here, doesn't it?
How is this not child abuse?
Allowing 15 year old kids to get sex change operations without their parent's consent? And having it paid for with TAX DOLLARS????
So, you cannot smoke at 15.
You cannot drink at 15
You cannot drive a car at 15.
But somehow the dope-smoking morons in Oregon think it's OK for you to cut off your penis when you're 15, and they'll make the state pay for it, and they won't tell your parents.
Ho. Lee. Shit.
Add this to the Christian bakers who are getting hammered to the tune of $135,000 for not baking a Big Gay Wedding cake, and you can safely say that Oregon hasn't just turned the asylum patients loose, they've installed them as the leadership of the state.

Those who forget history
Are doomed to repeat it. And the reason for Leftist control of education is to make sure their students forget history. And by making the students forget history, they can then control those students who don't have any basis to object to what they see going on. That's if they object at all, since they're so ignorant they buy in to failed leftist ideas without understanding the failure, pain and misery those ideas have brought.
Well.... ignorance mission complete, I'd say.
By sending our kids to government schools we have raised generations of ignorant people who have no clue where they came from or where they're going.
That explains why Obama got elected twice, doesn't it?

it’s very hard to grasp that the person you’re talking to, who is bright, articulate, advisable, interested, and doesn’t know who Beethoven is. Had no view looking back at the history of the 20th century – just sees a fog. A blank. Has the vaguest idea of who Winston Churchill was or why he mattered. And maybe has no image of Teddy Roosevelt, let’s say, at all. I mean, these are people who – We have failed.

I can only hope they thought he wasn't serious
Or, maybe they really just love chocolate that much. But damn...
Oh my...
So, the illegal alien who killed the woman in San Francisco did so with a gun that belonged to a Federal Agent.
Way to go there, jack-wagons! It's not bad enough that you worthless assholes refuse to seal the border, but now you have to give the criminals guns?
(Yes, that's hyperbole.)
The gun used in the seemingly random slaying of a woman on a San Francisco pier belonged to a federal agent, a law enforcement official briefed on the matter said Tuesday.
The official, who was not authorized to speak publicly about the case and spoke on condition of anonymity, said a police check of the weapon’s serial number shows it belonged to a federal agent. The official declined to elaborate further.

Oh look -
Yet another spoiled little bitch who hates the country that made her rich.
I don't know who Ariana Grande is, but all I can say is "Show me your tits, girlie, because that's all you're good for".
Heh: High Profile Hillary Clinton Supporter: "I Hate Americans. I Hate America."
The worker is then seen in the video placing a fresh batch of donuts on the counter. Grande wasn’t too pleased, however.
“What the f*** is that?” she said. “I hate Americans. I hate America.”

And here's another one
Illegal alien deported multiple times comes back to American and murders his wife with a hammer.
Man, it's like people who cross the border illegally don't care about the law or something!
Man, it's like people who cross the border illegally don't care about the law or something!
Another multiple deportee felon hurting Americans
Yet another illegal alien committing more criminal activity in America.
But Donald Trump is crazy for mentioning the criminals coming across our border. Yeah. Right.
A six-time-deported illegal immigrant is charged in the felony hit-and-run of an Arizona mother and her two young children. The man allegedly admitted to being high on marijuana while causing the severe lacerations to a five-year-old boy. The five-year-old and a two-year-old were both taken to an area hospital.
But Donald Trump is crazy for mentioning the criminals coming across our border. Yeah. Right.
Michelle Malkin used to have this regular post
Where she would simply link to a news article of yet another American killed by an illegal alien.
Seems like other folks are restarting that trend.
So, yet another illegal alien who was already deported previously comes back to commit more crime in America.
But don't mention the border, because otherwise you might upset the heavily socialist latinos who are flooding across our border. That makes sense, right? Seems legit? Yeah, I didn't think so either.
Seems like other folks are restarting that trend.
An illegal alien from Mexico who was deported last year is accused of fatally shooting and burning a Washington woman and her son.
According to the Tri-City Herald, Fragos-Ramirez was last deported in 2014 but had re-entered the country illegally. He has a rap sheet that includes charges for DUI and driving with a suspended license.

So, how 'bout the US National Women's Team, eh?
Granted, I don't follow soccer and I didn't watch the game. But I did catch this shot online.
Dayum! From mid-field, over the goalie, for the hat trick.
Even if you're not a soccer fan, you have to admit that's an impressive shot.

Other than the whole "Dogs vs. Fireworks" thing...
It was a pretty mellow 4th of July here at the Ragin' household. And after a bit, the dogs settled down and just looked at us every time some firework went off, as if to say "Hey, should I be alarmed right now? No? OK, I'll just lay here then."
Had seafood for dinner. Not the stereotypical burgers and hot dogs, but the wife really, really REALLY wanted crab. So we found a place that had live Dungeness crab for $10 a pound, grabbed a pound of shrimp to go with it, and had us a cholesterol-laden seafood dinner. With butter. And lemon juice.
Maybe when we're out of this shithole we'll go back to being wild party animals on the 4th. But I don't want to be out and about on any major holiday in LA. The people here can't drive on a good day. Get them liquored up and hopped up on cordite, and I refuse to be on the same roads as they are.

I want to get one of these for my priest. For $180 more, I can get a set of altar linens.

Ugh. What a sad, pathetic excuse for a human.
I'm going to be blunt and offensive
So if you're one of those folks who get "triggered", close your eyes.
George Takei called Clarence Thomas a "clown in blackface".
Now, setting aside the realization that nobody on the Left is going to call out Takei on his racism, here's my question (and me getting offensive):
If George Takei didn't like sucking cock or taking it up the ass, would anyone give a damn about what he said?
No. No they would not. No more than they gave a damn about what James Doohan thought.
Nicer take on George the Moron Takei: He's just stupid, and bitter that Shatner was a bigger star than he was. Still - did they bring out Checkov for a statement on politics? No. Are they hounding Shatner for a statement on politics? No.
So what makes Takei the politics guy for the media? Because it's their kind of politics, and he's gay. That's it. That's the criteria. He is a man who fucks other men, and the media loves him for it.
Welcome to the New America. Leave your sanity at the door.

I wish someone would stand up for the Kurds in Iraq
But it sure ain't gonna be Obama.
Here's how to tell which way Obama is going to go on any issue: Does it benefit him personally, and does it conform to his Marxist ideology?
Both questions require a "Yes" before he acts. If either question returns a "No", then it's Bush's fault and you're a racist.
The world wanted Obama. Remember the rallies? Remember the look of orgasmic delight on the faces of the people in Europe as Obama gave his speeches?
The world wanted Obama, and the world got Obama. Enjoy, you fuckers.

Some of America’s closest allies say President Barack Obama and other Western leaders, including David Cameron, are failing to show strategic leadership over the world’s gravest security crisis for decades.
They now say they are willing to “go it alone” in supplying heavy weapons to the Kurds, even if means defying the Iraqi authorities and their American backers, who demand all weapons be channelled through Baghdad.

Quote of the Day, stolen from Ace
Regarding the Left and their power fetish.
Preach it!
Let's sweep away the lies and just say it out loud:
90% of the left's attempts at social control are simply attempt to outlaw behaviors they perceived as favoed or engaged in by 'traditional" "conservative" "old-school" "white" etc. people.
Thus, a liberal can simulataneously demand that cigarettes be outlawed but marijuana be legalized.
(.....)
It's absolute juvenile revenge fantasy, leftover from the '60s. That's all it is. The younger generation of activist are automatons acting out the revenge fantasies of their professors.
Preach it!

Setting up for failure
on the Air Power side of the house.
The F-35 needs to be scrapped. It'll be a money loss, I know. But it would be a bigger loss of both money, men and power to have our new shiny toy getting shot down in droves by the ChiComs or Ruskies. This bird is going to be an albatross strung about the neck of the military for decades to come. This plane can barely hold it's own against an airframe that came out decades ago. The F-22 would slaughter the F-35. And the F-35 cannot perform the functions of the airplanes it's supposed to replace.
This is getting flat out ridiculous.
The test pilot flying the F-35 makes it very clear that the new jet, even in its ideal configuration without any external stores, was no match against a Block-40 F-16C in a less-than-ideal configuration with a pair of under-wing fuel tanks:

Puerto Rico is going broke
Of course they are. What nobody seems to be pointing out is the massive amounts of corruption that have sucked out billions upon billions of dollars that were poured into the island.
The island of Puerto Rico is broken because the society there is broken. When I left there in 2008, the fourth consecutive governor was being indicted on multiple federal charges. At this point, unless you wipe the slate clean and start over, you're not going to fix a darn thing.

Ragin' Dave's Quote of the Day, Consequences edition
White Christian conservative attachment to the Constitution and traditional American ideals such as representative democracy are consequences of their deeper attachments. Once those connections severed, they are simply a larger, more dedicated, more effective, and better-armed group playing the game of power. I tend to doubt post-democracy is going to be all that those celebrating it now believe it will be.
He quotes John Adams in the previous paragraph as well. The people now celebrating the destruction of the rule of law have no idea the hell that they've unleashed. It was the rule of law that kept them safe. They, being brainless fucktards of the highest order, thought that history could never apply to them, and attacked the very society that holds things together.
All it takes is a few good shooters, a powerful enough rifle, and the electrical grid goes down. Tell me, how long until the liberals start to eat each other in their cities, far away from all the things they need to keep living their comfortable lives?
"Progressive" ideology
is all about results. Never mind the law, never mind the rules, never mind how many dead bodies you have to walk over to get to the finish line, just get the results.
Which is why the four ProgNazi justices on the Supreme Clown Court of American never, ever wander off the reservation. You know how they're going to vote. You know how they roll.
And they're destroying this country.
Which is why the four ProgNazi justices on the Supreme Clown Court of American never, ever wander off the reservation. You know how they're going to vote. You know how they roll.
Did you notice that there was not an iota of speculation about how the four Progressive justices would vote?
There was never a shadow of a doubt. In the plethora of opinions generated by these three cases, there is not a single one authored by Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, Elena Kagan, or Sonia Sotomayor. There was no need. They are the Left’s voting bloc. There was a better chance that the sun would not rise this morning than that any of them would wander off the reservation. They are just another example of how little the Left actually cares about the Rule of Law. The Left is all about the Rule of Man, which is why most Leftist countries end up being run by some dictator or another. The Democrats in this Country didn't elect Obama to be their president. They want him to be their King, their God, their Lord, to make all the hard decisions for them so that they don't have to worry their pathetic little heads over things like Freedom, or it's flip side, Responsibility.
And they're destroying this country.

SCOTUS forces gay marriage on a country
I can't say anything better than Ace.
Between the SCOTUS re-writing Obamacare at it's whim, and now this, I can safely say that this country is fucked.
Sorry, kids. You're screwed. You're going to be raised in a socialist shithole compared to what I was raised in. And it's only going to get worse.
And the gay mafia gets its wish.

A country that won't defend itself.
This is the end result of Leftist ideology. In the country formerly known as "Great" Britain, the people in charge of protecting young girls can't even be bothered to interview the victims of muslim gang rape.
I mean, it was only uncovered last year, what's the rush, right? Don't want to be seen as racist, after all! Pip pip, old boy!
If my daughter, or my friend's daughter, or my neighbor's daughter had been assaulted and raped like those girls in Rotherham were, and the police were more concerned about being nice to muslim rapists than bringing them to justice, I can guarantee that those muslim rapists would just... disappear.
Nobody would ever see them again. And they would never rape another girl again. But then, there are still places in America where we haven't been corrupted by Liberalism yet. We still defend ourselves.

Rule of Law, RIP. It had a good run
The Supreme Clown Court of the United States of America has ruled that words no longer mean what they mean, and the law means what Obama wants it to mean, not what it actually says.
This country is over, folks. Time to admit it. It's all over but the shooting.
The ruling, as well as the previous Obamacare ruling that says a Penalty isn't a Penalty, it's a Tax, will do down with the Dred Scott decision as the worst rulings in SCOTUS history.

Cigar Review, Romeo y Julieta 1875 Torpedo
So, along with the Ave Maria that Anthony from CigarsCity.com sent me, there was also two Romeo y Julieta 1875 torpedoes for me to sample. I let them sit in the humidor for a good long time, and I pulled out out last night to give it a try.
I didn't see the RyJ 1875 torpedoes on the website, but I did find the robustos. It's a great blend no matter what size you smoke.
Fresh out of the wrapper, you get an aroma of tobacco and cedar. The wrapper was cracked in the middle, but I'm fairly certain that's due to humidity fluctuations in my humidor. The cigar seems to be well built.
I snipped off the end and the draw was good. First light, and you get cedar, tobacco and hints of toast. It's a medium bodied cigar, but it still holds its own with my single-malt scotch that I'm enjoying. The flavor profile didn't change much as I smoked it, although it did get sweeter about halfway through the cigar. The cedar faded a bit, and you get some cream and spice picking their heads up, but nothing dramatic. Even when the nub was burning my fingers, you still got great flavor that wasn't too strong.
The ash held up as I smoked it, and I eventually knocked off two inches of ash that was still firm. Great construction on this stick. I never had any ash fall on me, even after letting it get to two inches. Rolling the ash off the end of the cigar, you would get a firm barrel left in the ashtray. It never disintegrated into loose ash. The cigar burned even all the way down, no canoeing or soft spots.
The cigar remained medium bodied from start to finish, never beating up your palate. As I said, it help up to my scotch, but it would go great with just bout any beer as well.
So, that's the technical stuff. Here's the non-technical review.
This is a cigar that would pair well with anything you wanted to drink. It's a middle-of-the-road cigar. It's not going to jump up and scream "TASTE ME, YOU BASTARD!" but it's not going to leave you wanting more either. It's a very good cigar. But....
It's so middle-of-the-road that I have a hard time pointing to just what I like about it. And I do like it, make no mistake. I enjoyed it immensely, and I'm going to enjoy the second one that I have in my humidor. But it's not memorable, not like the Ave Maria was.
This is the cigar that you get so that you can share with your buddies when they come over. It's a good cigar, but you're not going to want to hoard them all. And at $4 a stick, it's not going to bust your bank. Would I pick it up at a cigar shop? Depends on the price. If it's listed as an $8 stick in the shop, then no. But at the CigarsCity price? Yep. All day long.

Of course it gets worse
This pathetic clown show that Obama is running would fuck up a wet dream if it could. Data breach numbers soar to 18 million.
I bet my SF86 is in that collection.
And since the most corrupt administration ever is in control, there's not a single person that's going to go to jail over this crap.

They would feel ashamed if they had any shame at all
How a 16 year old kid tricked the NYT and other "news" outlets into thinking Dylann Roof was a "Brony".
I'd tell that kid he's way too smart to go into journalism.

Holy. Crap!
Hummanahummanahummana....
Emphasis mine. This is huge, folks. Puerto Rico now has better gun laws than the People's Demokratik Republik of Kalifornia. When I lived there, you couldn't even sniff a gun permit unless you had another permit that allowed you to do so.
The criminals there must be shitting themselves silly at the thought of their victims being able to fight back.
The class-action lawsuit challenged various articles in Puerto Rico’s gun law, which the court declared unconstitutional. Because of the ruling, Barreras said, Puerto Ricans may now carry openly or concealed without a permit, and they do not need to obtain a permit before purchasing a firearm.

I have done 24 of these 25 things
And the only reason it's not all 25 is because we didn't have snakes in rivers to throw rocks at.
I would add in:
26. Jumping from a cliff into a lake or pond.
27. Sprinting through a field while a bull tried to catch you and stomp a mud-hole in your ass.
28. Learning how to pour a perfect cup of beer at age 5.
29. Bareback horse riding. No bridle either.

I've said it before
But sometimes it bears repeating - if I end up being just half the man my father is, I'll count my life well lived.
Happy Father's Day, Dad.

OK, the cider
I've tried two batches of cider here in LA, and neither of them came out as drinkable.
I used the same juice for both of them - unfiltered Honeycrisp Apple. It was pasteurized, but unless you go to the orchard and get it straight off the press, you're going to get pasteurized juice. Even when we pressed our own pears, we still had to heat it up to 140 degrees to kill any microbes that might try to take over.
Everything gets sanitized. I use a phosphoric acid based sanitizer, and anything that touches the juice gets cleaned.
So - I filled two three-gallon carboys full of the juice. I used two different strains of yeast - carboy one was White Labs English Cider yeast, and carboy two was a Nottingham Ale yeast. The English Cider yeast tends to eat more sugar than the Nottingham Ale, so you get two distinct flavors out of the batches. When I made the pear cider we used the Nottingham Ale yeast and it came out so good that I had people lined up to buy my entire 5 gallon batch. And it was so good that I told them "Nope, I'm keeping this stuff".
I put the carboy into a bucket. Depending on the amount of pectin in the juice, you can get some quite impressive blow-offs from the gas lock, and putting the carboy into a five gallon bucket helps contain any mess that might come out. It also helps reduce the amount of light that reaches the brew while it's fermenting. So I put the carboy into a bucket, throw a towel around the top to keep light out, and let 'er buck. Specific Gravity at the start was 1.050, so a little high on the beer scale but definitely within the range you want.
Here's the thing. It smelled awesome while it was fermenting. But yeast is very temperature sensitive. Too hot or cold and you get some "off" flavors. And boy howdy did I get some off flavors. The end result was a cross between hard apple cider and vinegar, and even the small sample I tried left me with an upset stomach due to it's harshness. SG was an even 1.000, which puts the Alcohol By Volume at 6.5%. It was just un-drinkable. Too harsh, flavors were horrible, and it upset the stomach.
The only real variable I could not control was the temperature. It's the same with our meads and wines. It's too hot in this house, and the temperature changes too much. There's no real cool place for me to brew and age the stuff. The gas locks never got compromised, the brew did want it was supposed to do, the juice I used was so rich and sweet that I wanted to drink it rather than ferment it, and the yeast was alive and well when I dumped it in. It still turned out crap, just like about half the meads we've made. They've either been too sweet (yeast didn't eat all the sugar), too harsh (off flavors and unpleasant taste from yeast that's too hot), or there's been too many temperature changes throughout the day and the yeast has put out an unpalatable mix of esters that make you gag.
Once I get to a house in a place without this jacked-up climate, or that has a basement where the temperature remains more constant, I think I'll start having success again. But for now, I'm done trying to brew in LA.
