I can't STAND unions
So between the post below this one regarding the SEIU getting waivers because they can't afford Obamacare, and this article about the decline of the private sector unions (which can only be a good thing) and the growth of the public sector unions (horrible horrible horrible), I figured I'd toss out my personal dealings with unions and why I think they're the sleaziest piles of crap on earth.
Way back when Dave had gotten out of the Army and was living and working in Seattle, Dave worked for the one section of a hospital which hasn't been unionized. When Dave had his job interview, he asked about wages. He asked about vacation time. He asked about sick leave. In short, Dave asked about all those things that a prospective employee will be compensated with for his hard work. Dave did not need a union. And Dave brought enough experience with him to demand a decent starting wage, which Dave got.
Fast forward a couple of years, and a one or two of Dave's fellow employees has decided that he isn't being heard enough, and he wants union representation. So he calls for a vote to unionize. Thank god this co-worker was in the minority, because after being forced to sit down and listen to the union reps, this is what Dave learned.
Dave would no longer be able to negotiate his salary, the union would do it.
Dave would no longer be able to negotiate his vacation accrual, the union would do it.
Dave would no longer be able to negotiate his sick leave accrual, the union would do it.
For the privilege of having these rights taken away, Dave would be charged $150 a paycheck, which would go to the local Democrat politicians by way of union bosses.
Now here's the kicker - when Dave compared his wages, vacation and sick leave accrual against the other employees who were part of the local SEIU, Dave had better wages, more vacation accrual, and more sick leave accrual. So the union was incapable of negotiating as well as Dave could with the Hospital administration, but wanted $300 a month for the pleasure of fucking Dave over at the bargaining table.
Everywhere I see a union, I see problems. The unions protect more negligent and lazy employees than I can shake a stick at, and it costs the businesses who employ them day after day after day. When a room-mate of mine waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in Kansas joined the local carpenter's union, he was amazed at how many union members showed up and smoked pot, then just hung out at the job site all day. "We can't fire them, Dave. They're union. But they're too stoned to work, so they just hang out all day because we can't trust them with a hammer and nail." Un-fucking-believeable. When I visit Boston, and I see two telephone poles planted right next to each other, each of them carrying half what it should because the UNIONS won't allow so-and-so to hang their lines without such-and-such hanging their lines first, and so it takes an entire fucking YEAR to replace one aging telephone pole....
We need to call unions what they are - corrupt organizations who's sole focus in this day and age is to funnel obscene amounts of money into theDemocrat American Communist Party's pockets. They may have had a purpose once. Hell, there may be a few out there who still DO have a purpose. But if the majority of unions ceased to exist by the end of today, we would simply have less money in politician's hands and a more competitive work environment. That's it.
You couldn't pay me to join a union.

Unafordable
So, if you haven't seen this yet, three chapters of the SEIU have recently received waivers from a "provision" of Obamacare. Seems as how these three chapters of SEIU can't afford Obamacare, and so they need their hall pass so they don't actually pay for it.
The irony - it burns. The group who gave millions to Obama and pushed hard for Obamacare can't afford Obamacare. Gosh, it's almost as if they were expecting someone else to pick up the bill! Now why would they think something like that, hmmmmmmmm?
In a just world there would be no waivers for any group who pushed to get Obamacare passed. Fuck the SEIU.

That's a feature, not a bug
Breda has up a map of the USA, with a note about what each state is "worst" at. Idaho is listed as having the least government influence.
Hell, that's why we LIVE there! And if Idaho has the least government influence.... then it REALLY sucks to be everybody else.

Francis Fox Piven wants America to crumble
She's one half of the Cloward-Piven strategy, which is a plan to systematically collapse the American government. And yet the New York Times doesn't see fit to publish that little tidbit. Or the fact that she calls for violent revolution against this country this year. No, the New York Times shows once again that it's nothing more than a propaganda mouthpiece for the Left by whitewashing Piven into a "liberal academic".
When I call the Left "Anti-American", it's people like Piven who prove that I'm correct.

And just because
Waaaaay back when Dave was just a wee sprout, he played the violin for a year before turning to the drums in Jr. High. Had someone showed little Dave this video, he may have ended up with a cello instead.
Nullification
I can haz it?
Now even the bill's sponsors admit that this might not work. But let's keep throwing roadblocks up before this country is well and truly fucked by Obamacare.
And I'm damn proud to be from Idaho, folks.
Idaho, the first state to sue the federal government over the health care overhaul, has announced plans to resort to an obscure 18th century legal remedy that recognizes a state’s right to nullify any federal law that the state has deemed unconstitutional.
The doctrine, known as nullification, has its roots in the brand of governance practiced by the nation’s founding fathers.
Now even the bill's sponsors admit that this might not work. But let's keep throwing roadblocks up before this country is well and truly fucked by Obamacare.

New Liberal Media Narrative
All the crimes of the PA Abortion doctor who murdered babies and killed women wasn't really about "abortion".
And as multiple people have pointed out, theDemocrat American Communist Party propaganda machine is doing it's best to cover this entire story up. Don't believe me? Google "Kermit Gosnell" and you get about 245,000 results. Google "Sarah Palin Shooting Arizona" and you get 18,100,000 hits. Gosh, who do you think the media wants to talk about? Who do you think the media wants to attack?
If I had my way, every newspaper in America would be shut down, every "journalist" fired, every editor sent packing. And then we would start over, and the only stipulation I would make is that anyone who ever worked for a "news" outlet would not be allowed back in. Maybe then we would have real reporting instead of propaganda and editorials disguised as news reports.

Ragin' Dave's Quote of the Day
From El Rushbo.
And that is why he gets paid like he does, folks.
Now, some of you may not know the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize Winner hosted a state dinner last night for Hu Jintao of China. Hu Jintao is holding the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize Winner in prison in China. Not making it up. The 2009 Nobel Peace Prize Winner hosted a dinner for the guy holding the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize Winner in prison, and the media does not get the irony of this at all. They're too busy running around chasing Sarah Palin and radio talk show hosts over "civility."

Weep for our country
There's a tombstone outside my church, right as you go in the side door, for all the victims of abortion in this country. Killing a baby just because it isn't born yet is still killing a baby, no matter what you try to convince yourself. Killing the most helpless among us because they're an inconvenience brought about by sex is just plain wrong.
So when I read this I wanted to throw up...... and if you read all of it, keep a vomit bucket handy. I normally do hyperbole rather well, but that's not hyperbole, that's a simple fact.
So when I read this I wanted to throw up...... and if you read all of it, keep a vomit bucket handy. I normally do hyperbole rather well, but that's not hyperbole, that's a simple fact.
Dr. Kermit Gosnell, 69, faces eight counts of murder in the deaths of a woman following a botched abortion at his office, along with the deaths of seven other babies who, prosecutors allege, were born alive following illegal late-term abortions and then were killed by severing their spinal cords with a pair of scissors. …This entire report shows just how far some people in this country have abandoned morals, integrity, ethics, and anything resembling humanity. The culture of death is alive and well in America.
Victory Part One!
House repeals Obamacare! And as Instapundit points out, the repeal passed with a larger margin of victory than the original Obamacare vote.
Part two is the Senate. We'll see what happens there. But I want any bastard who votes against repeal to be beaten like a baby harp seal with his vote come next election time.

Pipe bomb in Spokane?
The police got to it and defused it before anything happened, but still.... Adrienne's hubby had a too-close encounter with it.
Anyone from that area remember the pipe-bombing the Aryan Nations did in Coeur d'Alene in the mid-eighties? They were going after Fr. Bill Wassmuth, who was the priest at St. Pius X church in Coeur d'Alene. My family was going to that church at the time the attack happened.
I wonder if some of the Neo-Nazi holdovers were trying to relive old times?

Start the cutting!
Little article here about what programs can be cut from the Federal Gummint. I've had a discussion with people much like this, where I started describing what departments could be cut from the government. He objected, and said we would have riots in the streets.
I ain't certain that's a bad thing. I might be pilloried for that, but I really don't know if watching the parasitic class go into full melt-down mode is all that horrible.
Oh, and for the record, I want to cut the Departments of Education, Health and Human Services, Agriculture, Energy, the EPA, and various other independent programs, as well as most "foreign aid" that amounts to nothing more than handing money over to despots who hate us.

Conserving Energy
Dealing with certain people in my life has become...... challenging, shall we say. There's always someone who wants to piss on your Wheaties, just to enjoy your misery. I used to enjoy jumping right back in their face, but these days? I ain't got the energy for it.
I had one of those assholes try to provoke a reaction out of me tonight. I ended up just leaving. I don't have the energy to deal with assholes these days, due to the high number of assholes and pricks that I'm contractually obligated to deal with at work. I fight all day just to keep my sanity. I can't fight away from work the same day. Not if I want to remain human.
It doesn't quell the anger, it just pushes it off for another day.

Why Illinois is broke
Well, one part of the reason anyways.
Work for the State 5 Years, Pay in Zero, Get $130,000 Pension...
Work for Yourself 45 Years, Pay In $260,000 Get $28,000 Social Security
Anybody see a problem here?
This is what happens when you live in a state with no accountability, no transparency and massive political malfeasance. You and I are in effect tax slaves whose purpose in life is to work and pay exorbitant taxes so the elitist politically connected public employees can live in luxury when they retire - on our dime of course.
That last paragraph is how the Professional Left sees all taxpayers by the way.
Seen this yet?
Don Surber's response to the Left about their sudden cry for "civil discourse". I guess after calling us murder-inciting racists, and that after calling us unintelligent racists, and that after calling us baby-killing warmongers, and that after calling us... well, everything but a white boy, NOW they want to be civil.
My simple response to that is "fuck you", but Don Surber does it so much better.

Just how stupid is Bill Maher?
I'm pretty sure that anyone this dense has his own gravitational field. The sheer amount of stupidity and ignorance that this man exudes is enough to lower the collective IQ of everyone around him. And as he insults the Tea Party day after day after day, he exposes his complete and total lack of functioning brain cells with every show and every rant of his.
But not content with being a vacuous, moronic numbskull, Bill Maher tops it off with a foul attitude, gross demeanor, a nasty, vile personality, and a deep hatred of anything and anyone not like him.
But that's not enough to make me weep for America. No, what truly gives me dry-heaves of revulsion is the fact that a twisted, demented freak like Bill Maher has his own TV show with an audience that willingly swallows all the crap that he shits out. THAT is what should worry every American with a working brain.

While I still can't stand the city of Chicago, I'd like to thank the wonderful gentleman who not only found my notebook lying on the concourse ramp, but walked onto my plane to return it to me.
Every now and then, I'm reminded that there are good people out there. It's refreshing. Gives me some hope for humanity.

Ragin' Dave's Quote of the Day
Stolen from Keven Baker's quote of the day a couple days ago.
The rest is just as good. Go. Read.
Winston Churchill aptly described socialism as "a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue [being] the equal sharing of misery." As economist Thomas Sowell put it, "[s]ocialism in general has a record of failure so blatant that only an intellectual could ignore or evade it."
The rest is just as good. Go. Read.

The Obama Tucson Tragedy Campaign
Pardon me while I vomit:
If you had any doubt at all of what a loathsome, disgusting, puerile, dishonest piece of worm shit Obama is, let this be your guide.
Yeah, because we dumb Americans aren't believing the line that theDemocrat American Communist Party keeps pushing. So the Communist in Chief is just going to push that line harder.
Why won't he just go away?
Step right up, ladies and gentleman, the tragedy campaign tour starts right here…indians, poetry readings, visual aid gimmick made out of public letters, he’s managed to turn a memorial service into a three-ring circus…a logo and slogan for a memorial service? Really? And “Together We Thrive”? Just another coded political slogan for his upcoming political “tragedy agenda”, having nothing to do with mourning or a tribute to the victims, and worse, clearly, he’s debuting his replacement slogan for “Yes We Can”. Jonathan Alter recently advised Obama to treat this shooting like any other crisis that can be capitalized on for political gain. “Never let a good crisis go to waste”, reminded Alter. Well, I guess Obama took his advice.
If you had any doubt at all of what a loathsome, disgusting, puerile, dishonest piece of worm shit Obama is, let this be your guide.
The challenge for a president is trying to make meaning out of something that’s not easy to understand – something that looks to be a hugely disrupting act,” Jamieson said. “A president is trying to provide a framework for how we are going to understand it.”

Feeder Pig
The Ragin' Mrs. has a tradition of cooking someone who's leaving our office a final lunch, kind of one last hurrah before they go on to where ever they're going. One co-worker made the off-hand comment that he wanted a roast suckling pig for his last lunch.
Don't ever, ever make an off-hand comment like that to a chef.
We spent last night killing, gutting, and cleaning the pig. It's currently packed with herbs and spices, doing a happy little marinade, and it'll get roasted in a week or two (yes, we're doing a spice marinade for weeks!) while packed with garlic and apples and getting spritzed with apple juice.
Yes, I'll take pictures.

Hammer 'em flat
Legal Insurrection talks about the two sicknesses on display in Arizona - the sickness of the shooter, and the sickness of the Left who want to use this tragedy as a political tool.
No Soviet Propaganda minister ever worked harder than the Left is working right now to discredit this country.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time we have seen this type of reaction. The meme that opponents of Obama are crazy and dangerous has been an explicit Democratic Party campaign strategy for over two years. Here is just a partial list of events in which the left-wing and Democratic Party media operation has immediately blamed right-wing rhetoric, only to be proven wrong when the facts finally came out: Bill Sparkman, Amy Bishop, The Fort Hood Shooter, The IRS Plane Crasher, The Cabbie Stabbing, and The Pentagon Shooter.
The facts will come out about the shooting and murder by Loughner. Until then, we'll be subjected to the sickness of people who seek to use the crime to their political advantage and who will worry about the facts later on, if ever.
No Soviet Propaganda minister ever worked harder than the Left is working right now to discredit this country.

The JournoList Narrative
Is alive.
And well.
My mind can't wrap itself around how sick, evil, and twisted you have to be in order to use a tragedy like this for political gain within minutes of it actually happening. The more I hear about the Daily Kos and other Leftoid political figures, the less I can regard them as human. As near as I can tell, they enjoy the suffering and misery of other people because they can use it for political hay. They have no compassion. They have no heart. They have no soul. All they have is a lust for power. Their complete and total lack of morals is frightening.
Let's hope that Congresswoman Giffords makes a full recovery. And pray for the people who were killed by this loon. Pray for their families.

Do I think it'll happen right now? No, there's no real chance that it'll pass the Senate, much less get signed by Obama. The Decline of America
After hearing about how some iPhone glitch is responsible for people oversleeping and getting fired, yada yada yada, I have to ask:
How is it that people who spend hundreds of dollars for a phone can't seem to be able to buy a ten dollar alarm clock and make it work?
Now granted, this girl admits that had she known about the glitch she would have gotten an alarm clock. But still.... how hard is it to just have a clock in your bedroom? Why wait until there's a glitch in the phone to buy an alarm clock? Hell, I've got four alarm clocks, three in the house and one in the garage. OK, the garage clock is a radio clock that I like to use on occasion when I'm out there working, which is why it's out there in the first place. Still, why not just use an alarm clock, instead of a phone?
Now let's see here.....$300 for her phone, $100 a month for the contract.... that's exactly why I don't own an iPhone. I can't afford it. But then, I'm not a university graduate working as a bartender/waitress either. I guess those folks make the big bucks.
How is it that people who spend hundreds of dollars for a phone can't seem to be able to buy a ten dollar alarm clock and make it work?
Garvey sidestepped questions about whether her tardiness was an isolated incident. She said after paying $300 for her iPhone in September 2009, and $100 each month on her contract, she blames the phone - not Foundry - for her lack of employment.
“It just made me feel angry because I spent all this money on this phone,” she said. “I’m not asking for anything. Maybe an apology.”

Because once again, I have nothing but this:
A paraprosdokian (from Greek "παρα-", meaning "beyond" and "προσδοκία", meaning "expectation") is a figure of speech <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Figure_of_speech>; <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Figure_of_speech%3E> ; in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected in a way that causes the reader or listener to reframe or reinterpret the first part. It is frequently used for humorous or dramatic effect, sometimes producing an anticlimax <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Anticlimax>; . For this reason, it is extremely popular among comedians and satirists.

I got an "A".
It's not all that difficult for anyone who reads on a regular basis. More and more, I'm coming to the realization that I should fall at my parent's feet and kiss them for throwing away the TV when I was a kid and handing me books instead.
Parents, do you want your children to be literate? Get rid of the one-eyed-babysitter in the house. Toss the boob tube. Get a library instead. That $100+ you're spending on cable TV and 500 channels you never watch every month could buy quite a few books. Do it. You won't regret it.
Enjoying those high gasoline prices?
Keep enjoying them; they're only going to go up thanks to the Obama administration.
How's five bucks a gallon sound to you? About right?

Puppy Dog Games
The dog and I have a game we play when I'm shoveling snow. He accompanies me while I scrape a path clean and get a good shovel-full of snow. Once my shovel is loaded, he gets into position. And then I fling that shovel-full of snow into the air as far as I can, and he twists himself into a pretzel trying to eat it as it falls.
It's actually pretty cute. He's jumping and twisting like a Chinese acrobat, jaws working so fast you can hear his teeth clicking together like an old-fashioned typewriter. And I'm just shoveling snow. Gives him a good workout in the morning.

Packers Win
They're in. So too are my Seahawks, who proved just how awful the NFC West was this year by winning the division with a 7 and 9 record. Seven wins, nine losses. Ugh. Just ....... ugh. Nothing else can be said. And the scary part is, even with the Saints being favored to come in and wipe the floor with the Seahawks, there's still a chance that the Boys in Blue can pull out a win.
Boggles the mind, it does.

Frozen Solid
We had unseasonably warm weather a few days ago. I'm talking 40 degrees, everything melting, water running off the roof warm.
And then it froze. Solid. Below zero temps with the windchill. And now my front yard is a solid block of ice. The poor dog's paws are getting beaten up from going out to do his business.
Ah, winter in Wisconsin!

The Rose Bowl
I'm torn, kinda. See, I want TCU to win, because more than anything I want to see the BSC just blown to hell. The entire system. Gone. And TCU winning the Rose Bowl is a huge step to that, if it does happen.
However, my dear friend who's house I'm going to be watching the game at is a huge Wisconsin fan. She's a Wisconsin native, born here, raised here, gonna die here. She bleeds Packer Green and Yellow, and her tears are Wisconsin Scarlet and White.
So, given the fact that I currently live in Wisconsin, do I root for the home team and make my friend happy? Or do I go with my gut and root for TCU?
Meh. I'm not going to live in Wisconsin for ever. GO HORNED FROGS!
UPDATE: TCU 21, Wisconsin 19. A damn good game. The Badgers have nothing to hang their head about. This was quite possibly the best bowl game I've watched in a long time.

Another Pilot blasts the TSA
Good. You want to know what scares me? That the agency who's job it is to "protect" the traveling public can't figure out that the guy in control of the plane doesn't need to be anal probed as he enters the terminal. Why is he going through the metal detector? Do people really think he needs a friggin' GUN to kill people?
The TSA is a joke, and it's a joke because the people running it are a bunch of clueless PC fucksticks.

Necessity
Davidwhitewolf follows a link from Rachel Lucas that shows a map of Europe over a map of the USA. It's worth a look, if only to get a sense of the scale of America. A while back I pointed out that most Americans only speak on language, because that's all they'll need in their lives. Drive a thousand kilometers in Europe, and you're in a different country. Drive for a thousand kilometers in America, and you might not even leave the state. It took me two days to drive through Montana. And that doesn't even include Canada, which is a majority English speaking country.
Is it good to learn another language? Yes. But when some Europhile comes up and starts bagging on Americans because we only speak English, just remember that map. I've driven from one coast of this country to another. The variety of landscapes, people, cultures and lifestyles are just as great as you'll find in Europe. If you don't think so, put a bowl of gumbo from New Orleans next to a steak from Texas, next to a cup of Chioppino from Seattle, next to a plate of brats and hard rolls from Sheboygan, WI, so on and so forth. The cultures that produced those dishes are as different from each other as anything you'll find overseas. It's just that you're used to them, so you don't think of them as being exotic, or different. To us, it's just home.
And we speak English at home.

I got nothing today
Work has been.... well.... a bit unsettling as of late. I spent most of yesterday afternoon trying to make sure my head was clear and in the right spot.
As an aside, when a liberal university conducts an analysis of a liberal group, and comes up with the conclusion that conservatives are "misinformed", is anyone truly surprised? No? Good.
Debunked.

Yer Doin' it Wrong
When whining and crying about not being able to pay your heating bill, you might not want to be photographed in front of the GINORMOUS FUCKING TV you have in your home.
Boo-Fucking-Hoo. You can't pay your heating bill, but you can blow thousands of dollars on a huge fucking flatscreen plasma TV. Wah wah wah, someone else needs to pay the heat bill, wah wah wah, when's the game on, wah wah wah, I'm a worthless fucking parasite wah wah wah.
To quote GOC:
The Ragin' Mrs. and I make hard economic choices every single day. We don't go out and splurge on fancy electronic crap or anything else we don't need because we enjoy being able to pay the utilities and mortgage. But gosh, I didn't know we could go out, waste our money on stupid crap, and then cry to the gummint to pay our bills!
Fucking parasites. They don't need to have someone pay their bills, they need to be taught to pay their bills FIRST before they blow their money on fancy new shiny crap they don't need.

Check out the picture of Raymeica Kelley at the link. What's that in the background? A flat screen TV? I wonder if she has cable or satellite? Are those game consoles? I bet she has a cellphone as well. Prolly a pretty good one. Maybe if she sold off her electronic stuff she could pay her heating bill and not depend on others to do it for her.

Obamacare Death Panels
Death Panels
Death Panels
Death Panels
I don't care what you call them in legislative terms. They're death panels, and they're going to determine who lives and who dies in the new Obamacare regime. Enjoy your free death care, folks. I truly hope that all the people who supported this die in it before I do.

Swag
My wife got me a kick-ass fountain pen.*
What'd you get?
* I had used a fountain pen years ago when I was writing lots of letters home from Korea and Ft. Riley. It eventually got lost, and every fountain pen I've tried since just didn't have the "feel" that I was used to. And so I've been fountain pen-less for about a decade now, but the Ragin' Mrs. found a NICE one for me. As in, "use the plunger to fill the canister with ink from your bottle" type of nice. The kind that will have my writing letters again nice.
Oh hells yes.

Destroy the Department of Education
I have a co-worker who just moved to the area. He's sending his kids to a private school, because the local school system can't handle his kids. It's not that his kids are ill-behaved, they're just four to five grades ahead in their education. Literally. His son is reading at about four grade levels above his own.
Anyway, he's looking for a private school, he finds one that has the classes, teachers and resources to teach his very intelligent kids, he enrolls his kids, and he's going to pay $1,400 a year for his kid's education.
Let me say that again. One thousand, four hundred dollars a year. To attend a private school that is leaps and bounds beyond the public school. Would you like to guess how much money Wisconsin wastes per student? The last data from 2004-2005 says it was $11,044 on average. Which means that for a little over ten percent of the state average dollar amount, my co-worker's kid is getting a much better education.
So with that in mind, check out this Instapundit post about how people are getting ready to howl about
"cuts" in education. I say cut it all. I can think of very few reasons why we would want the Department of Education to exist, and the damage it does to children all over the country is immeasurable.

Merry Christmas, everyone. At Midnight Mass in my church back home, this is always the last song we sing, with all the stops pulled out.
Joy!

The cost of an education
Folks, if you want your kids to be happy, send 'em to a trade school. It'll give them a leg up, and it'll keep your wallet a little heavier.
Because a collage education ain't what it used to be.
Of course, how many college graduates have degrees in crap like "Wymyn's Studies", or "Film Studies" or some other soft shit like that? I'm not seeing an increase in the number of doctors or scientists or engineers, just an overall increase in "college graduates". And when you can waste four years of time and hundreds of thousands of dollars on a scholastic major of interpretive dance, then it's NO FRIKKING DUH that you won't exactly get a high paying job when you get out.

We knew that Barack Hussein Obama was a communist cockholster of the first order, but thanks to Wikileaks we now know just how hard Obama worked to gobble up Hugo Chavez's manchowder.
Yes, that's rude, crude, and offensive. Sue me. At this point, that's all I can muster up. I never claimed to be perfect.

A little history
I used to live on the top of this hill in Spokane.
And that's the easy part of the hill. There's sections that you don't even walk on if you get a winter storm, because you won't stop sliding for about a mile.

Shoveling snow, beeyotches. Lots of it. Pounds of it. Fucking TONS of it.
Got my workout, I did. More than made up for the kick-ass tri-meat sammich the Ragin' Mrs. made for dinner tonight.

Because I need it
And because I'm so tired of the over-commercialized, post-modernistic, industrial production "christmas" music that takes Christ out of Christmas as much as possible and replaces him with a fat man in a red suit.
There's a reason why Christ comes first in Christmas, folks.
Or, if you prefer it in English:

Exhale
Did anyone else just breathe a sigh of relief as North Korea blinked at the ROK?
Having spent a year in Korea, I have no desire to go back and fight there in the winter time. Or the summer time for that matter. It's a hellish place to fight. Casualties would make Iraq and Afghanistan look like a walk in the park.

Two Posts
relating to the repeal of DADT. Dan Riehl and This Ain't Hell. If you want to see what the supporters of the repeal actually think about our military, all you have to do is read their words. Of course, now that our military has once again been used as a social experiment, I'm wondering what the Left is going to ask for next.

Does this mean I'm officially old?
When GOC posts his Saturday Boobage, and all I can think of when I see the girls lined up is:
"Top left two are FAKE! So's the one on the bottom far right."
The link is, needless to say, Not Safe For Work.
"Top left two are FAKE! So's the one on the bottom far right."
The link is, needless to say, Not Safe For Work.
I almost agree with these three paragraphs
From Drew M at Ace of Spades, regarding the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell:
I bet we see the worst case scenario that Gates and the Joint Chiefs warned of because this whole push has always been about personal edification for a few individuals and the political left, not military necessity.
That said, if the policy was going to be changed, this is the right way to do it. Supporters made their case to the people and Congress and they won. That's the way the system works.
Now we get to sit back and find out all the unintended consequences of this action are.
You're not going to see the worst case scenario, you're going to see something worse than that. As Drew points out, this is entirely about personal edification and not about military necessity. We do not need homosexuals in the military to make the military stronger. In fact, the introduction of open homosexuality into the military is going to require all kinds of new laws and regulations which will decrease the effectiveness of the military. But WHO GIVES A FUCK, right? Nobody who supported this shit thinks that it's going to make the military stronger. That's not what this is about at all. This is all about political correctness and turning the military into just another social project. This is about making yourself feel so much better and so much more fucking tolerant. So the end result, with all those unintended consequences, is going to be even worse.
Smokin'
Got seven pounds of bacon and two big hams in the smoker. Got it set as cold as I possibly can, which in Wisconsin is several shades colder than anywhere else I've been, so this is going to be a good cold smoke. Mix of apple and cherry.
Maybe I'll make it to church today. After the past couple of months, that would be rather enjoyable.

In New Orleans Yesterday
It was 33 degrees.
Thirty three. One degree above freezing. And it's currently sitting at -18 here at the Ragin' household.
Can we get some of that global warming I keep hearing about? That would be nice right about now.

Instapundit has links.
I'm celebrating, but I also know this is just one battle in the larger war. This thing is going to go before the Supreme Court, and after I heard Steven Breyer on Fox News last weekend, I'm rather scared about what they're going to say.

Ragin' Dave's Quote of the Day
From the comments at this post of Dennis the Peasant's blog:
The rest of the post is just as good. Although I'm expecting that there will be at least one or two people who disagree.
What do you think executives at Philip Morris dream of at night? They dream of the day they can sell cannabis cigarettes to all the morons who are attacking them for selling tobacco!

No women in the infantry. No way, no how. The fact that this is even being considered shows just how fucking ignorant people are about the military and about our job. Holy Jumping Jehosephat on a pogo stick, just what do we have to do before the fucking stupid fairy stops beating people like this?
Dear lord, I didn't need to see that. I'm going to go buy a bottle, drink it completely dry, and then beat myself unconscious with it. Maybe I'll wake up and this will be nothing but a bad dream.

Linky Love today
Because Davey-boy is frazzled and running on "E". Luckily for me, Kevin Baker already found my link for the day: What's wrong with a little Socialism?
I don't think I can disagree with them. My fear is this - knowing who has their hands on the levers of power, how do we stop the next government from being worse?
The problem is that to implement socialism, basic freedoms have to be curtailed or abolished. For starters, socialism is built on government ownership or very tight control of industry and commerce. This means, obviously, that citizens' rights to freely pursue business opportunities are severely limited by the government. Property rights must also be greatly curtailed, and the personal accumulation of wealth abolished. The government becomes the arbitrator of who succeeds, and to what extent. And also from Mr. Baker is the "Grab your guns and ammo" post of the day.
Today’s stark refusal of the senate to heel in their most venal, basic impulses over the country’s dire need for prudent management during our current economic implosion, a feat they foolishly orchestrated in all of their glorious incompetence, tells me we’ve crossed the abyss into no man’s land.
The crisp suits we’ve elected to spend and manage our money don’t have a single ounce of respect for the work and sacrifice we provide to fund their sickening folly. Their disdain for the republic is manifest in every piece of statist legislation under consideration, their privileged contempt for our conscripted dollars evident in every spendthrift measure they pass.
I believe it’s finally time to start discussing alternatives to our present system. The republic of the founding fathers no longer exists.
I don't think I can disagree with them. My fear is this - knowing who has their hands on the levers of power, how do we stop the next government from being worse?

Maybe it's just me
Jennifer Rubin says that Obama caved, Republicans won the tax battle of 2010.
Come January, we need to do better. However, kicking the tax debate can down the road until 2012? Friggin' Brilliant. Let's have that debate right before the 2012 elections! The only way to get taxes more on the minds of voters is to move Income Tax day from April 15th to the Monday before elections. So on that we got a win.
There really is no other way to say it: the Republicans won, the liberal Democrats lost, and the president sided with the Republicans. The subject, of course, is an agreement to extend all the Bust tax cuts. The president tonight announced a "bipartisan framework" for agreement on, among other things, to extend the Bush tax cuts for two years. A Republican House aide tells me tonight it is "a damn good deal." And so it is, from the perspective of conservatives.

December 7th, 1941
Is the day the Empire of Japan attacked, without provocation, the US at Pearl Harbor, and Schofield Barracks, and Wheeler Field, and Hickam Field, and Kaneohe, which later became Kaneohe Marine Air Base, which is where my father was stationed when I was a kid.
I've been to the USS Arizona memorial. It's still leaking oil, one tiny drop at a time, blossoming on the water's surface bit by bit.
Do I blame modern day Japan for this? Of course not. The Japanese of today have as little to do with that war as I do. But I bring it up because it shows the folly of sitting around while violent men with hostile intentions plan to attack you. A lesson that quite a bit of this country seems to have forgotten. And we've forgotten it before, to our detriment.
I wonder how many of our high school students in America today even know why December 7th happened?

Webster Wept
Megan McCain had to look up what "blue bloods" meant?
No wonder the Democrat Media loves this woman; she's a fucking imbecile. I caught one tiny bit of some speech she had done on a TV show. Some radio host was just having a field day with her statement "as a twenty-nine year old woman...." and that's all I heard, because the radio host would only play that much. Just that little bit of speech, seven words, she sounded like Paris Hilton with body fat.
Yeech.

Mistake, corrected
I've had Mind Numbed Robot in my personal bookmarks for a while. Now he's finally on the blogroll. Sorry that took so long!
Sausage
Since several kind-hearted strangers have donated venison to the Ragin' Household, my hunting season being ended before it ever started, the Ragin' Mrs. and I have started experimenting with recipes. Two kinds of hunter's sausage. An Italian Wine and Cheese sausage. And a merguez which should be hot enough to blow my sinuses out my ears.
Oh yeah, baby. It's good eats time.

Snowfall
After the light dustings that we've had over the past week, Mother Nature finally decided to dump a bunch on us at once.
I think that freshly fallen snow is one of the most beautiful sights on God's earth. I'll have to find a few good photos of it before I shovel it off of my sidewalk. And they just lit the Christmas lights in the park last night. It'll be beautiful tonight.

In case you missed it -
The Deficit Commission just admitted to America what most of us already knew - those Obamacare cost savings don't exist, and never will.
Repeal Obamacare.
Repeal Obamacare.

Today's Must Read
Transfers by Francis W. Porretto.
The United States operates several transfer programs at the federal level, and many more at the state, county, and municipal levels. Transfer programs, and the bureaucracies that operate them, consume over half of all governmental revenues at this time. Of the $3.6 trillion federal budget for 2011, about $1.8 trillion is consumed by transfer programs.
They who argue for a transfer program usually invoke the mantra of "compassion." it's to "help the poor," or to "feed the elderly," or to help the handicapped," or some such. Sometimes it's to "prepare our children," though what "our children" are being prepared for mostly looks like habituation to dependency in a thoroughly amoral society based on State-mediated theft.
And that's before we get to the question of efficiency. The statistics are unambiguous: governmental transfer programs invariably divert more than half of the money allocated to them to bureaucrats' salaries and operational overhead. In 2001, the most recent year for which I have figures, 72% of the budget of the Department of Health and Human Services went to bureaucrats' salaries and overhead; only 28% of its funds reached its supposed beneficiaries.
The least efficient of the large private charities, the United Way, averages an 85% rate of conversion of inputs to benefits. Only 15% of the funds it collects goes to salaries and overhead.
Must I state plainly that usually, when we refer to a government transfer program's "beneficiaries," we're thinking of the wrong bunch? Is it simply too obvious?
You have to read the rest.
Still Got Nothing
We're hitting another one of those balls-to-the-wall cycles at work, where I'm essentially running from the moment I get up until I come home and collapse on the couch.
One of the Chaplains I worked with in the past sent me an email that contains an op-ed full of fail. I'll have to pull it up and post it later, because I'm being kind of lazy right now, but the whole gist if the piece is that Americans need to be more "sexually liberated".
My pop-off question: Since sexual liberation has given us an epidemic of STDs, AIDS, broken families, single parent families, teen-age pregnancies, and a breakdown of societal morals, just why do we want MORE of it? Can anyone out there name one good thing that sexual liberation has done for society as a whole?
Anyone?

Snow, Finally
We should normally have snow by Thanksgiving. This year it took until the last day in November.
And no, this isn't "global warming". Two years ago we had snow in mid-October.
And as for global warming, if you haven't seen this video of all the Global Bullshit Artists partying it up in Cancun, take a moment and watch it. And then realize that the most recent glow-bull warming message to come out came from this group. This band of hypocrites who all flew to CAN-FUCKING-CUN to party and eat and drink and tell us not to consume too much.
They can all choke.

Wikileaks exposes Obama's Incompetence
And bad. Not only is Obama incompetent on the Middle East, but pretty much his entire staff of experts on the Middle East don't know a damn thing about the Middle East, and don't know how to communicate with the countries in the Middle East.
Gosh - if only someone had pointed out Obama's complete and total lack of experience in foreign affairs during the campaign. Oh, right, we did, and plenty of other people did, but the Obama-bots and various Leftist sycophants wouldn't hear it.
My god, we're so screwed.

From the "We TOLD you!" files
SEIU dropping children from it's healthcare insurance because of Obamacare.
Well, what the fuck did you expect, you Obama-worshipping goons? Oh, and here's the icing on the cake:
The unions hope the State of New York will fund their healthcare? Hmmmmmm.... Gosh, who could have seen that coming? Of course, New York is a bit like California in their economic state, that being well and truly screwed, so I doubt there will be any honey flowing from that pot any time soon. But the mindset is just boggling. They got everything they fucking wanted, and now they're screwed, so they demand that other people pay for their healthcare.
Don't think that won't happen in your state.

Well, what the fuck did you expect, you Obama-worshipping goons? Oh, and here's the icing on the cake:
As premiums went up and employer contributions remained constant, the benefit fund started cutting the rolls of eligible members. In the past three years the 1199 fund reduced its total enrollment in half, to less than 40,000 currently.
“We hope the state of New York will do the right thing and provide the funding necessary for this most vulnerable population of direct caregivers,” the union said in a statement.

Palin Derangement Syndrome
So, do you think Sandra Bernhard hates Bristol Palin because:
A: Bristol is a hundred times better looking than Bernhard.
B: Bristol's mom is a hundred times better looking than Bernhard.
C: Both Bristol and her mom can pull more attention and bigger audiences than Bernhard.
D: Neither Bristol or her mom have wasted their lives with cheap vodka and quaaludes, unlike Bernhard.
E: All of the above.
The ugly, vicious, joyless harpies of the Left spew venom against a 20 year old girl for just being on a show about dancing. That says more about them than it says about anyone else. Still, we've come to expect a complete and total lack of class from the Left, and they never disappoint.

Boise State
lost last night. No, that doesn't make me happy. And I know a certain ass-hatted fuckstick out of Ohio who's probably running around to all of his friends and going "SEE! SEE! I TOLD YOU!" Of course, that certain ass-hatted fuckstick would shit himself silly if he saw BSU on the schedule for his precious team, which is why that certain ass-hatted fuckstick has not and will not schedule BSU ever. Ever, ever, ever, even after BSU put out the offer that they'll play anyone, anytime, on the other teams field, and not require a reciprocal trip to Boise.
So Boise State lost to 19th ranked Nevada last night in overtime. The usual people who hate any non-automatic BCS bid conference are all going to be twittering into their mocha-frapa-cumma-latea and talking about how they all just KNEW that BSU didn't belong in the BCS championship game. However, in the years between losses that BSU has gone through, they have beaten-
in 2010:
#24 ranked Oregon State
#10 ranked Virginia Tech.
In 2009:
#4 Texas Christian University
#16 Oregon
in 2008, they beat #17 Oregon before losing to #11 TCU in the Pointsetta Bowl. You have to go back to the bowl season of 2008 to find their last loss. In the meantime, they've beaten, until last night, every ranked team they've played, plus a whole host of other teams. And the Ohio State Nutsack wants to badmouth BSU and TCU?
Of course, this could all be settled if the Ohio State Nutless Wonders would schedule BSU for a game. Any time, any where. Like BSU has asked all over the country. But the Ohio State Quivering Bitches ain't gonna do it, because they know, just like Oklahoma knows, just like Oregon knows, just like anyone who's played BSU knows - Boise State belongs on the big stage. And unlike several major schools such as the Ohio State Ball-Sniffers, Boise State has done it with class and dignity.
So last night BSU lost to a ranked opponent. As I currently live in Wisconsin right now, let me remind the Ohio State Bedwetters that they got their dick stomped by the Badgers earlier this year. So just like Boise State, the Ohio State Crybabies lost to a ranked opponent.
And so now, even though I'll still root for BSU, I'm going to be pulling hard for TCU to upend the BSC bandwagon this year, just to listen to the howling screams coming from the automatic qualifying conferences. Like the Ohio State Mouth Breathers.

Another Busy Day
Hey, I got most of yesterday to relax. And eat. The Ragin' Mrs. made an awesome pork trifecta that just blew our collective minds. A pork loin, butterflied out, our home-made bratwurst cut out of it's casing and spread over the loin, apples chopped up and spread on the bratwurst, then the whole thing rolled up and covered with our own bacon. Then baked.
People, I can't friggin' tell you just how awesome that was.
Anyways, today we're preparing for the grand opening of Dave's hippy experience. So lots of prep and baking going on. Y'all have fun doing whatever you do. And check out the House of Eratosthenes piece, Liberal Men are wimps who can't handle a real woman. Which pretty much sums it all up.

The DHS List
Of people who object to getting "gate-raped" at the airport. Posted by Leonidas at Eternity Road. It seems that the government wants to find out who is a subject, and who is still a citizen, so that they can punish the citizens.
Are you surprised? Why? Look at who is in charge! They celebrate dictators the world around, what makes you think they actually like or want our current republic?

The Rebuttle
Mr. Porretto says to spread this far and wide. I don't think it's nasty enough, but here it is.
Any Democrat asking for "peace" or "calm" or any such rot should be told to go outside and play hide-and-go-fuck-themselves in short order. Period, the end.
Yes, we will burn down the house of Progressive Democrats and lay waste to the entire construct of the welfare state. It will be a long, decades-long battle, but we will prevail because we learned the consequences of not teaching our young ourselves. We delegated that to you, and that was our first mistake. We assumed you were honest brokers, but now we know better.
Carthago delenda est.
I accept that's the intellectually lazy response, but I have to work with what you can understand.
My preference is more of a “Thucydides account of the no-mercy overthrow of the oligarchs at Corcyra” type of historical reference.
Either way, I am confident you can deduce the “tone”of my rebuttal.
Any Democrat asking for "peace" or "calm" or any such rot should be told to go outside and play hide-and-go-fuck-themselves in short order. Period, the end.
Completely tasteless post of the day
So, now the Miley Cyrus is 18, and given her past actions when she was barely legal, how long will it be before we see various nekkid Miley Cyrus pictures on all the paparazzi websites?

And while the right hand was busy
The Left hand was engaged in spectacular fail.
I can't think of both a better way and worse way to refute this Administration's attempt to use the criminal justice system to deal with terrorism. But they'll never admit it. Holder should have been fired over a year ago. Every day brings more evidence that he still needs to be fired, and perhaps charged in dereliction of duty.
The failure of Holder’s DoJ to win anything more than a single conspiracy count against Ghailani as a result of using a process designed for domestic criminals than wartime enemies shows that the critics had it right all along. It also shows that both Obama and Holder have been proven spectacularly wrong, since a man who confessed to the murder of over two hundred people will now face no more than 20 years, with a big chunk of whatever sentence Foopie receives being reduced by time already served.

Weddings
I was attending one this weekend. Sorry for the lack of posting yesterday, but I was rather busy. In the meantime, how far as the government gone in destroying this country while I was away?
Oh, and Og links to how Airport Security should be done. Please note that it's about as unlike the TSA as you can possibly get. But then, Israeli security is actually meant to keep things secure, not expand government control over it's subjects.
