The police got to it and defused it before anything happened, but still.... Adrienne's hubby had a too-close encounter with it.
Anyone from that area remember the pipe-bombing the Aryan Nations did in Coeur d'Alene in the mid-eighties? They were going after Fr. Bill Wassmuth, who was the priest at St. Pius X church in Coeur d'Alene. My family was going to that church at the time the attack happened.
I wonder if some of the Neo-Nazi holdovers were trying to relive old times?

They've got another one (possible) on Sprague and Cedar right now (1/19/201 - 9:00 am) Will keep you updated...
Spokane Police said a suspicious suitcase near the intersection of Sprague and Cedar in Downtown Spokane contained only women's clothing.
It's never a good thing when your old stomping grounds turn into a bomb zone. I hope they catch the bastard that placed it. I still have friends and family around there. I don't want to see them killed by a nutcase.
First off, as a long time Spokane resident, I'm getting a little tired of every time I bring up my home town, being asked about the Aryan nations. They have pretty much gone away as of about 2001 when they went bankrupt and their Fuhrer died.
Second, not that i'm defending the Aryans - far from it - but wasn't it just this sort of jumping-to-conclusions before the facts are in that got a lot of people all hot under the collar here recently?
If I had to take a wild-assed guess at what happened here, this was a dummy bomb planted by a lefty in an attempt to "frame" right wingers as racist haters. But that is just cynical old me.
Whoa whoa WHOA there hoss! I was just musing out loud about the skinheads. I don't know who planted the bomb.
C'mon, when I joined the Army and people found out I was from Coeur d'Alene, all I heard about was "Oh, you're from the skinhead town!" I've fought that battle as well. But this DOES feel like a repeat of what they did in the 80's, and who knows how many of those losers are still kicking around?
