Afghanistan

As anyone who wasn’t playing partisan politics predicted, the Taliban is retaking Afghanistan in an appalling fashion. The rapidly deteriorating situation is a humanitarian and national security tragedy.

On Thursday, the Pentagon decided to send troops to help evacuate personnel from the U.S. Embassy in Kabul and also assist at the Kabul airport. Kabul is expected to fall within a month.

The Taliban has captured nearly two-thirds of the country, including 10 provincial capitals in the last week, and now Ghazni, one of Afghanistan’s largest cities, strategically situated on the main road between Kabul and Kandahar.

Here's my question to those who want to stay in some form or fashion:  Just exactly how long do you plan on staying there, and what's the objective?

We've been in Afghanistan for TWO DECADES.  That's one full generation plus part of another, and the country is still a shithole of corruption and incompetence, filled with people who cannot keep the systems of a civilized nation running even after having it handed to them, shown how to operate it, and given craploads of dollars to keep it maintained.

How much more money are we going to throw at people who don't want to be western?  Here's a thought - the Taliban could not have taken all these cities and towns unless there was a substantial portion of the people in those cities and towns who WANTED THEM THERE.  These people had two decades to decide what kind of a country they wanted to live in, and they chose the Taliban.  Hell, that's about the only thing they've agreed on in thousands of years, given that the country of Afghanistan is really just a geographic region, filled with nine different tribes of backwards, uncivilized pedophiles and rapists who all hate each other, and fight each other when they're not fighting whatever benighted western country has decided to wobble in to the Graveyard of Empires.

There were only two real courses of action in Afghanistan - go in and destroy anyone and everyone associated with the Taliban before you rebuild the country, or kill bin Laden and then get the hell out.  What we've been doing over the past two decades hasn't worked.  It won't work, because we're expecting people to act in a Western fashion when those people have refused to do so for as long as the people there have known about the West.

So let's go back to those two questions:  Just how long are you planning on staying there, and what's the objective?  Almost nobody clamoring for us to stay in Afghanistan can answer the first question, and damn sure nobody in the government can answer the second.  "B-b-b-b-but HUMANITARIAN CRISIS!"  Yeah.  That's going to happen when the people who live in an area prefer fucking little boys and keeping women in burkas.  That's sort of a thing when a population demands to live in the 7th century.  And unless you're willing to go in with bloody sword, followed by the Bible for those left after the Taliban is purged, then YOU ARE GOING TO FAIL.  I don't care how long you stay.  I don't care how much you wail about the people there suffering.  Reality is a bitch, and the reality of the situation is that we've done nothing to encourage Afghanistan to be anything more than an Islamic shithole filled with people who CHOOSE to be barbarians.

Yes, people are going to die.  Yes, the Taliban is going to take over.  The next time they act out, we just need to drop a fucking missile on the ragheads and turn their world into one giant smoking crater.  Don't send one fucking troop there.  Don't spend one dollar more than is required for the ordnance, and the fuel to get it there.  Unless you're going there to change their entire culture, which would require the extinction of Islam and the establishment of Christianity, then don't waste a single American life on them.

We all know the USA doesn't have the political will to do what has to be done.  So let's stop pretending they do, and cut our losses.

Now, with that being said, I'm happy that Drooling Joe's puppet masters are the ones fucking this up, because that'll just be another thing people remember about him.  Serves them right.  Fuck them all.

(3) COVID-fear has been very good to the Democrats in the political sense, and they want that to continue. In particular, they are hoping to use it to justify the same sort of looser rules on voting protocols that helped them win in 2020.

(4) It has the potential to further the divisions and hatred in the country, which I believe the left sees as a plus.

I understand Covid can be deadly or very dangerous for SOME people, but so are strawberries and so is shellfish!! Put this all into perspective!

Is there a waiver somewhere I can sign that says, "I understand the risks but I choose a life with hugs and smiles, the state fair and to go to church and to go hug my mom in her retirement home?

I understand that there is a minuscule possibility I could die, but I will most likely end up just feeling bad for a few days.

I understand I could possibly pass it to someone else, if I'm not careful, but I can pass ANY virus onto someone else.

I'm struggling to see where or how this ends!

 Imagine if they hadn't lied to us for the past 18 months.

Let’s try a thought experiment. Let’s imagine our ruling class was not as utterly corrupt, dishonest, incompetent and downright stupid as it manifestly is. I know that’s hard, but go with me.

This weird new virus appears and starts spreading. Instead of leveraging it to take down Trump, the Democrats appear with the Republican president and GOP leadership to announce they are working together to solve the problem. Imagine that instead of shaming people, first about wearing masks, then about not wearing masks, then about not wearing two masks, then no masks, then masks again, they went with transparency. 

“We are not sure how much, if at all, masks work. We’re running test trials to see and we’ll tell you what we find as soon as we have the data. In the meantime, let’s all wear them just in case.” And then, when they ran the studies, they would tell us the answer. 

What we've gotten from the so-called "experts" has been lies, bullshit, obfuscation, and rage when questioned.  What we've gotten from the people in power is the silencing of any dissent, on multiple platforms, because people dared to question the narrative being pushed by lying liars in the government.  Oh, and when the truth is finally allowed to come out (like the Kung Flu being made in a lab), the people who censored and abused folks just months ago for telling the truth now go on like nothing happened.

But trust is earned, and these people act like it is their right to have our trust, that we owe them to take it on faith that whatever these people say is the Gospel. Except they are wrong all the time, and instead of owning up to it, they treat you like some sort of idiot for noticing. When you don’t trust people who are perpetually wrong, that’s not denying science. That is science – you are making observations, and drawing reasonable conclusions. In this case, the observation is that our establishment sucks, and that it can’t be trusted.

There is not a single part of the government that can be trusted to do the right thing.  And crap like the Democrat's Star Chamber bullshit isn't going to help.

The Democrat Party normalized and celebrated political violence for months before the Capitol riots. Let’s have some hearings on THAT. Let’s talk about how incredibly dangerous it is for one Party to think it has a monopoly on grievance-mongering, street theater, and violence.

Let’s also have some hearings about how one Party thinks it has a monopoly on questioning the outcome of elections. We could roll video of top Dems, including sitting officials, doing that for HOURS. You want theater? I’ll make the popcorn and bring the tapes.

I’m not really interested in hearing any Democrat, or their GOP footstools, give tearful speeches about sacred democracy while their party systematically destroys every bit of protection for our elections and wantonly undermines every outcome they don’t like. We have every reason to fear the full power of bloated, hyper-politicized government being turned against Americans who dissent from the ruling Party.

The Democrats think that their Star Chamber trial will make people bend to their will.  But that's because they only know their own followers, who are, well, Democrats, and so they don't understand America, or Americans.  They might see some semblance of people going along, but that's just surface noise.  They won't notice what's going on under the surface until the switch gets flipped, and it's too late.

Yes, I'm going to post something that is pro-vax

 I don't agree with this guy about getting the non-vax.  I don't want to inject myself with something that uses my own muscle tissue to "trick" my body into building anti-bodies to what is still essentially, my own muscle tissue.  I see huge problems with that over time.  Now, with that being said, his statements on the whole delta variant hysteria needs to be heard.

Let’s start with Delta.  Contrary to the misinformation being spread by many, including the so-called experts, the research to date shows:

1.  It has a lower hospitalization and death rate.
2. It is perhaps somewhat more transmissible.
3. It does not result in substantially higher viral loads.
4. Vaccines are only marginally less effective against Delta infections.
5. It does not have a worse impact on children.

The shrieking hysteria about the delta variant is just the latest Democrat tactic for keeping their bootheels on the collective neck of America.  It's more panic pornography and fear mongering, over a virus that you can deal with through Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine.  

Our government is as stupid, moronic, corrupt, ignorant and worthless as you think it is.

 Evidence?  What evidence?  

"CDC recommends universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status. Children should return to full-time in-person learning in the fall with layered prevention strategies in place," the guidance states. 

But where is the evidence to justify masking children in schools due to the Delta variant? According to CDC Director Rochelle Walensky, it doesn't exist. 

The masks are only an issue because government commie tyrant Democrats (redundancy alert) find them useful for reminding the peasants and slaves of their place in life.

 You Cannot Kill Tradition.

At the Catholic Gentleman, I have striven to avoid polemics or commentary on the latest headlines since the beginning, seeking instead to inspire in followers a love of the good, the true, and the beautiful. But this attack on the traditional Mass, which has sustained my faith through all the storms of life since my conversion ten years ago, is grievous, and I believe it requires at least some response.

In short, I believe this attack on the living tradition of the faith is grievous, disastrous, and wrong. Here are three simple reasons.

Do go forth and read it all, especially if you're a Catholic.  I've been asked a few times what I thought about Jorge Bergoglio's attack on the Latin Mass, and I've told a number of people that Jorge Bergoglio is a Satanic pedophile heretic, and that Pope Benedict XVI is the true pope of the church.  I've gotten a number of amused responses from that.

Most generals in the military don't make it past their first tour wearing stars.

 It's hard being a general in the Army.  Lot of rules.  Lots of things you're not supposed to do.  So when I see crap like this, I wonder how this douchebag made it through his first tour.

He also tweeted at the university where I am a student, Hillsdale College, and told them to “come get your boy” for questioning the military’s quarantine and lockdown policies. General Donahoe, apparently, thinks the private sector is just like the military, where criticism can be stopped, and careers ended, with a mere snap of the fingers. As the thread attracted more attention, one commenter asked the General “how many wars he’d won.” The General responded by accusing the questioner of “shilling for Putin.” When I asked if Putin was the reason America had lost in Afghanistan, the General blocked me.

Not a good look for MG Donahoe there, and certainly not a good look for the US Army.  Quite frankly, I'd hate to be stationed at Ft. Benning right now, given that this political hack cares more about pushing the narrative than actually helping the troops.

There's no way that Donahoe comes out of this looking good.  He might keep his job, but I certainly hope that Garrison Command takes a look and their boy there and makes a change.  The military doesn't need another public relations black eye, given that Gen Milley just showed how "woke" the Pentagon is.  However, my fear is that the entire leadership of the Army is converged, and that's why we're seeing this stupidity working it's way down the command chain.  The guys up top get to pick the guys down below.  Have I mentioned that I can't wait to retire?

Stop the panic pornography

 Just stop it.

Dr. Fauci said last Aug. 13 that when you have fewer than 10 cases per 100,000, “you should be able to open up safely and clearly.” The U.S. reached that point in mid-May. It’s time to stop the fear mongering and level with the public about the incredible capabilities of both modern medical research and the human body’s immune system.

There's much more reality based goodness where that came from.  The current hair-on-fire hysteria over the Delta Variant is just another push by the various tyrants to keep control from slipping out of their fingers.  Don't fall for the bullshit.

Former Democrat Senator Barbara Boxer was attacked in Oakland’s Jack London Square Monday. The incident happened in the 300 block of 3rd Street.

“Earlier today former Senator Barbara Boxer was assaulted in the Jack London Square neighborhood of Oakland,” her representative wrote in a Tweet. “The assailant pushed her in the back, stole her cell phone and jumped in a waiting car. She is thankful that she was not seriously injured.”

The only way to make them learn, if they CAN learn, is to force them to live in the shithole they created.

If the words of that “doctor” who “just left the ER” and has a message about getting “crushed” by the new COVID Delta variant to call for a new “national lockdown” looks familiar it’s because you probably have seen it before.

It’s an apparent astroturfed message campaign to scare people into getting a COVID vaccine.

It’s unclear who is behind the effort, but what is clear is they have many people and perhaps even bots willing and able to cut and paste the message to issue the fearful message because we’re “getting crushed” by the COVID Delta variant, don’t you know?

Our colleagues at Twitchy report that a similar effort started on Facebook.

If it was as serious as they claim, we would have actual reports that would reflect the seriousness.  Instead, we have astro-turfed panic pornography on both Twitter and Facebook.  Don't fall for the scam.

Back home

 And I didn't accomplish near as much as I wanted to.  There's a restriction on gas-powered tools up where the parental units live, so you can't use them in the afternoon.  It's a fire hazard, apparently.  I still got quite a bit accomplished, but I could have done more if the entire countryside wasn't ready to go up in flames.

Now back to the normal grind-stone, after dealing with the fun grind-stone.

Vaccine hesitancy is "well-informed"

One of the people I know who's most opposed to the jab is also one of the smartest people I know.

But most vaccine skepticism, if by that we mean reluctance, is not based on conspiracy theorizing — it’s based on risk-benefit calculations. You may think it’s an innumerate calculation. But when you look at patterns of uptake in the United States, two factors stand out, factors that are larger in their effect than partisanship: age and density. The older you are and the denser your community, the more likely you are to be vaccinated. The younger you are, and the more rural your community, the less likely you are to have gotten it. This reflects the real facts about the risk of death from COVID. People may be wildly overestimating their risk from the vaccine and underestimating their risks from COVID — but they have the directional thinking correct. Those who are in less danger, act like it.

The absolute risk reduction for me if I get the jab is less than 1%.

Why would I take the risk of all the negative side effects for a less than 1% absolute risk reduction?  But when you start talking actual numbers, you get called everything but a white boy.  By idiots and morons who trust the government.  Yeah.
