Why I don't watch TV

(Or, why America voted for a hard-Left Chicago Commie)

So I was in the local convenience store getting various sundry items for the Ragin' Mrs., and they have their TV set to "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire". I don't know if it was a re-run or the current show. There's a gentleman on the show who looks to be about my age, give or take a few years. He's up to 16,000 dollars. He's used up ALL his lifelines. And I'm thinking "OK, maybe the questions are just that hard."

Then he gets to the $32,000 question, and I might paraphrase a bit here, and pardon my commentary if it's a bit hard to read:

"War is hell" is a quotation (at this point I'm muttering 'Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman, US Army, march to Atlanta, 1864) from a famous general (William T. Sherman!) in what American conflict?" (jaw hits floor at how blindingly easy this question is.)

And you know what? The guy couldn't answer the question. He was given the choices of WWI, WWII, Revolutionary War, or Civil War. He could. Not. Answer. The. Question. He walked away with his 16k and I was staring at the TV in disbelief.

Now here's where it gets worse - the girl working behind the counter, noticing me staring into blank space, helpfully chirps "Can I help you find anything?" I shake my head and reply that I can't believe the guy didn't know the answer to that simple question. The girl, who had not been watching the TV asks what the question was. I repeat the question to her, and she shrugs and says "Oh well, I don't know the answer either."

This is where Dave gets a little... um... foamy at the mouth, I think is the correct term. I'm not the most educated person in the world. I have a high school diploma, some college, lots of vocational training, and more job based schooling than I can shake a stick at. But I don't have a fancy college degree. And yet little 'ol average me knew the quote, who said it and when. That should be standard. That should be the bare minimum! This is American history, and Americans by and large DON'T HAVE A FUCKING CLUE ABOUT IT!

In any case, as I'm muttering "WILLIAM T. SHERMAN!" like a crazy homeless guy as I wander the shelves, the poor cashier girl having retreated into the back due to me looking all foamy at the mouth and all, the older gent behind the counter gives me a sympathetic look and says "I guess some people didn't pay attention in school."

I hate to tell him - I don't think that's the problem. And this now brings me to the linking section of this post. That's not an uber-post from Keven Baker, but it's one that needs to be read and spread. You want to know why so many people keep voting to put the gun into their mouths and pull the trigger? Because they have never been taught critical thinking. They've been indoctrinated, not educated. I had a conversation with a guy at my gun club last October, before the election, and he announced that he was a proud gun owner for Obama.

Me: "You do know he's anti gun, right?"
Him: "Oh, Obama's not going to take away our guns!"
Me: "You do know his record on guns, right?"
Him: "Look, Obama's not going to take away our guns!"
Me: "And with the Democrats in control of Congress, many of whom are VERY anti-gun, what's going to stop him from signing another gun ban?"
Him: "Obama won't take our guns!"
Me: "How do you know that? What facts, events or evidence lead you to that conclusion, when EVERY OTHER SIGN points to Obama pushing for more gun control?"
Him: "You're a conservative, aren't you?"

The more I deal with people, the more I believe that Drumwaster (among others) is right, and there will be a second revolution in my lifetime.

The second link is about a woman prevented from selling Kimchee in a market there in SayUncle's hometown. The Ragin' Mrs is prevented from selling her Spice Rub out and about because it's not made in a commercial kitchen. It's just dry spices, ground and mixed together in various amounts, but we need a commercial kitchen to do it in.

Health care reform that would really work

Sarah Palin has the key, " There can be no true health care reform without legal reform."

So I have new questions for the president: Why no legal reform? Why continue to encourage defensive medicine that wastes billions of dollars and does nothing for the patients? Do you want health care reform to benefit trial attorneys or patients?

As usual in this article Sarah has done her homework showing the actual savings of Tort Reform. She links settlement caps with malpractice savings being passed onto the patients and adding to the numbers of medical practitioners.

District Court Rules in Favor of E-Verify Executive Order

On Wednesday, a federal court in Maryland ruled in favor of the E-Verify mandate for federal contractors, first issued by the Bush Administration. The order requires all contractors to verify the workplace eligibility of new hires, but it's been delayed four times - once by the Bush Administration and three times by the Obama Administration - pending the court's ruling. Ted Kennedy "as early as the fourth week in September under a timetable being considered by Democratic members of the Legislature, a key committee chairman said today."
The Washington Post reports, "Senior Democrats in Washington and Massachusetts have thrown their support behind a proposal to appoint a temporary replacement to fill" Kennedy's seat. Yesterday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) "publicly endorsed the plan." The move "would put Kennedy's immediate successor in place by the time Reid hopes to hold a Senate vote on health-care legislation."
On ABC World News, George Stephanopoulos said, "There is a chance this could pass by late September, and one of the names being mentioned as this possible temporary senator is the former governor and presidential candidate, Michael Dukakis."

Court ordered Christian child into Govermnent Education

A 10-year-old homeschool girl described as "well liked, social and interactive with her peers, academically promising and intellectually at or superior to grade level" has been told by a New Hampshire court official to attend a government school because she was too "vigorous" in defense of her Christian faith.

The decision from Marital Master Michael Garner reasoned that the girl's "vigorous defense of her religious beliefs to [her] counselor

suggests strongly that she has not had the opportunity to seriously consider any other point of view."

The recommendation was approved by Judge Lucinda V. Sadler, but it is being challenged by attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund, who said it was "a step too far" for any court.

Busy day today

911 anniversary

We have a little less than one month and counting to get the word out all across this great land and into every community in the United States of America .

THE PROGRAM:

On Friday, September 11th, 2009, an American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States . Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this
eighth anniversary of one of our country's worst tragedies. We do this to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at
home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms.

In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed in American flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism. Sadly, those flags have all but disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity. Our American flag is the fabric of our country and together we can prevail over terrorism of all kinds

Action Plan:

(1) encourage everyone you know (at least 11 people). Please don't be the one to break this chain. Take a moment to think back to how you felt on 9/11 and let those sentiments guide you.

(2) Fly an American flag of any size on 9/11. Honestly, Americans should fly the flag year-round, but if you don't, then at least make it a priority on this day.

hurting our country

It is terribly upsetting and disconcerting, and I wish I didn't think it and I wish I didn't have to say it. But there's no way to sugarcoat it. This is not politics as usual. This is not left versus right. This is not Republican versus Democrat. This is statism, totalitarianism versus freedom. And if these people are allowed to go where they want to go unchecked, then some people, a lot of people – I don't think half the country, but close – will wake up one day and find, "My God, what the hell happened?" Because this is not what they voted for. They had no intention of this. They thought they were getting something entirely different and it is a responsibility that we all have being honest and earnest to inform people of what these possibilities are because they are very real.

We won in Iraq despite the whimpering, sniveling and crying of these brainless, idiotic fucktards. Having had their hopes for defeat crushed in Iraq, they now turn their attention to Afghanistan, so that they can once again try to surrender, retreat and withdraw.

Ted Kennedy dead

Now, I've been raised to not speak ill of the dead, so I'm going to just bite my tongue here. But I wonder how long it'll be before the first cry of "DO IT FOR TEDDY!" is raised as the cause celebre to push government health care on this country?

I'm betting it'll take less than a day.

A tale of two blog posts

First up is a nice long post at Kevin Baker's, detailing the clusterfuck that is Obamacare.

The other blog post I want to highlight is from Mr. Porretto at Eternity Road, and it's quite instructive:

My grammar school years: 1958 through 1964. Annual tuition at St. Catharine's grammar school: $96 per student-year. School tax on my family's house, market value $19,000: $200 per year.

In those days, a fair number of persons could afford to pay both the school taxes and St. Catharine's tuition. They grumbled about it, of course, but it was an overwhelmingly Catholic neighborhood, and few families would permit their kids to attend the "public" grammar school if they could do anything at all to avoid it. Of course, the local school board assured concerned residents that it was doing everything it could to hold down taxes, but...well, neighbors, you know how things are.

Time passed. The school tax on a home in Rockland County, NY accelerated sharply, just as it has virtually everywhere else in the United States. Fewer and fewer of those hundreds of Catholic families found that they could afford both the property taxes and St. Catharine's tuition. That was especially so for those with three or more children. Eventually, St. Catharine's, itself beset by sharply rising costs, under the pressure of greatly reduced enrollments, had to increase its tuition markedly. That, of course, further accelerated the decline in enrollments.

In 1963, when I entered eighth grade there, there were 44 students in that class. The 2007 eighth-grade class had only 20, and the first-grade class had only 9. The school closed permanently at the end of June, 2008.

The government doesn't have to shut down private insurance companies. All they have to do is make sure you don't have the money to purchase insurance from those companies. "Oh well, we need to raise your taxes. What, you don't want to stop those poor people from getting healthcare do you? You heartless bastard!" I'm willing to bet that most people wouldn't have to be hit by the taxman too hard before you couldn't afford to write that check to the insurance company every month.

The power to tax is the power to punish, and the power to control. If you can't pay your insurance bill, then the insurance companies fold. It's that simple. And you get moved under single-payer, government-controlled Obamacare. Congratulations, citizen! You are now ward of most excellent and hospitable government-run hospital, the best in world! You are young, we pay to fix you! You are old? Ah well, is for good of the state, comrade!

Don't let them get one. fucking. inch. You'll regret it for the rest of your life. Which will be dramatically shortened once you get into a government run "health care" facility.

Government employees

I've seen some government employees that were worth their weight in gold. I'm talking some hard working, ass-busting, does-everything, brings the kitchen sink gold.

And I've also seen some of the laziest, most worthless pieces of shit that god has ever put on this green earth, who sunk their teeth into Uncle Sugar's tit and will not let go until they die and you pry their jaws open.

Unfortunately as time goes on, I see more of the latter than the former.

I recently purchase a set of documents from the Patriot Print Shoppe. It is a set of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of right for only $34.95 plus $1 for S&H. They are each 17x22" and absolutely gorgeous. If anyone is interested, this is the place to go.

A judge in Florida has determined arguments over a young Christian who ran away from her Muslim parents in Ohio when her father allegedly threatened her life will continue in Florida, and she will not be returned immediately as her parents wished.

Fathima Rifqa Bary, 17, an honor student and cheerleader, was raised in a Muslim family in Columbus, Ohio. She became a Christian four years ago as a result of her interactions with children at school.

In this article it is called an "anti-Muslim bias".

Which means that I'm going to expound upon this vile piece of excrement.

Thanks for posting about the CPSIA. Garage Sale police aren’t the only insane parts of this law… I make and sell small stuffed teething giraffes for babies (or anyone else cutting a tooth). My giraffes are made from 100% cotton fabric, stuffing made from a synthetic fiber made from corn, and thread. That’s it. Nothing toxic about that, right? Well, according to the law, I have to lead test each batch of giraffes I make. I make them in batches of 10-12 because I’m a small time producer (and I get bored easily). That’s about $300-500 per batch. BUT I also have to test them for a plastic additive called Phthalates because the item is intended to go in a baby’s mouth. Never mind the fact that there is nothing plastic in any of the materials I use to make my giraffes. That’s about $800-1200 per batch. Now you’re talking a pretty expensive teething toy.

This craptastic law, passed by a criminally stupid Congress, is actually going to start attacking small businesses and garage sales.

Now let’s just take a minute and think about our elected officials, be they democrat, rino, or pretty much anyone other than Ron Paul, who has his own set of problems anyway. Some senators can’t manage to drive across a bridge without killing someone. Others think their staff sent them an internet. I asked, "Well what is going to happen to those people we can't reeducate, that are diehard capitalists?" And the reply was that they'd have to be eliminated.

And when I pursued this further, they estimated they would have to eliminate 25 million people in these reeducation centers.

And when I say "eliminate," I mean "kill."

Twenty-five million people.

I want you to imagine sitting in a room with 25 people, most of which have graduate degrees, from Columbia and other well-known educational centers, and hear them figuring out the logistics for the elimination of 25 million people and they were dead serious.

Don't think for one second that Obama and his terrorist buddies wouldn't throw your capitalist ass into a "re-education center" if they had the power to do so. They want to do so. They've expressed their desire to do so. And I am just plain DONE being nice to anti-American fuckheads like that. Let's call them what they are, and treat them as such - mortal enemies of this country and the freedoms that we enjoy.

Applewood, that is. A friend of ours had to cut down two apple trees that were old and falling down, and presented a hazard to their kids. They know that I love to use apple in my smoker, so they offered to let me have all the wood.

Now I've got a trailer full of applewood, and I need to find a place to stack it. But oooooooo, the ribs are gonna be TASTY, baby!

An honor student is scared for life because she converted to Christianity

Obama has Death Panels for Veterans at the VA

JIM TOWEY at WSJ reports Ex-soldiers don't need to be told they're a burden to society.

If President Obama wants to better understand why America's discomfort with end-of-life discussions threatens to derail his health-care reform, he might begin with his own Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). He will quickly discover how government bureaucrats are greasing the slippery slope that can start with cost containment but quickly become a systematic denial of care.

Last year, bureaucrats at the VA's National Center for Ethics in Health Care advocated a 52-page end-of-life planning document, "Your Life, Your Choices." It was first published in 1997 and later promoted as the VA's preferred living will throughout its vast network of hospitals and nursing homes. After the Bush White House took a look at how this document was treating complex health and moral issues, the VA suspended its use. Unfortunately, under President Obama, the VA has now resuscitated "Your Life, Your Choices."

Who is the primary author of this workbook? Dr. Robert Pearlman, chief of ethics evaluation for the center, a man who in 1996 advocated for physician-assisted suicide in Vacco v. Quill before the U.S. Supreme Court and is known for his support of health-care rationing.

"Your Life, Your Choices" presents end-of-life choices in a way aimed at steering users toward predetermined conclusions, much like a political "push poll." For example, a worksheet on page 21 lists various scenarios and asks users to then decide whether their own life would be "not worth living."

The circumstances listed include ones common among the elderly and disabled: living in a nursing home, being in a wheelchair and not being able to "shake the blues." There is a section which provocatively asks, "Have you ever heard anyone say, 'If I'm a vegetable, pull the plug'?" There also are guilt-inducing scenarios such as "I can no longer contribute to my family's well being," "I am a severe financial burden on my family" and that the vet's situation "causes severe emotional burden for my family."

One can only imagine a soldier surviving the war in Iraq and returning without all of his limbs only to encounter a veteran's health-care system that seems intent on his surrender.

I was not surprised to learn that the VA panel of experts that sought to update "Your Life, Your Choices" between 2007-2008 did not include any representatives of faith groups or disability rights advocates. And as you might guess, only one organization was listed in the new version as a resource on advance directives: the Hemlock Society (now euphemistically known as "Compassion and Choices").

This hurry-up-and-die message is clear and unconscionable. Worse, a July 2009 VA directive instructs its primary care physicians to raise advance care planning with all VA patients and to refer them to "Your Life, Your Choices." Not just those of advanced age and debilitated condition — all patients.

Oh... those Death Panels... that Barack Hussein Obama funded billions in research dollars to enrich Tom Daschle(D) to develop. I could have done it for a bit less given the VA model to work from.

On Glenn Beck's comment

Which I just read about here, after I saw it mentioned here.

The rest of Beck’s comment, asserting that Obama has “deep-seated hatred for white people of the white culture,” should be easy for the President’s defenders to disprove. All they have to do is cite one positive thing Obama has said or written about white culture. Anywhere. Ever. Hopefully they can get back to us before GMAC needs another taxpayer bailout, to address the self-inflicted financial damage from its participation in the boycott. I wouldn’t recommend wasting any time going through Obama’s university compositions, assuming you can find where they’re buried, and get past the three-headed guard dog. He graduated from Columbia and Harvard, where “deep-seated hatred for white people of the white culture” is written in green on your thesis when the professor hands it back to you, along with “excellent sentence composition!” and “good use of original sources!”

There’s no question that Beck’s comment was provocative and rude. If you happen to be in a room with Glenn Beck at the moment, and you’re reading this to him out loud, he probably just shouted “Exactly!” Political and cultural debates always feature provocation and rude behavior. The American media occasionally becomes very prim about this. Strangely enough, these occasions always coincide with the election of a Democrat President. The same people puckering their lips over the heated tone of Beck’s assertions, Sarah Palin’s “death panel” commentary, or the behavior of town-hall protesters, thought the temperature was just peachy when liberals were openly fantasizing about assassinating President Bush. The average liberal couldn’t order a burger and fries at McDonald’s without informing the cashier that Bush was a subhuman cowboy moron.

Hey, here's an idea: Maybe the reason Beck thinks that Obama is a racist is because Obama sat in a church listening to "GOD DAMN AMERIKKKA!" and "WHITEY INVENTED CRACK TO KILL THE BLACK MAN!" for oh, twenty years. I know, crazy right? It's almost like twenty years of past behavior is enough to accurately predict future actions!

Oh, and I read in the news today that Bawney Fwank threw a bitchy little fit at some person who brought a poster of Obama with a Hitler mustache to a town hall meeting.

"On what planet do you spend most of your time?" Frank asked the woman, who had stepped up to the podium at a southeastern Massachusetts senior center to ask why Frank supports what she called a Nazi policy.

"Ma'am, trying to have a conversation with you would be like trying to argue with a dining room table. I have no interest in doing it," Frank replied.

He continued by saying her ability to deface an image of the president and express her views "is a tribute to the First Amendment that this kind of vile, contemptible nonsense is so freely propagated."

I'm sure that there are some Packer fans who will shrug and say, "Oh well, he's going into the Hall of Fame as a Packer, so no biggie."

They are in the minority, folks. Brett Favre could have been discovered eating babies in Green Bay, and the fans would have still forgiven him so long as he had stayed retired. But going to a rival team in the NFC North is the unforgivable sin, and there will be hell to pay when Favre and the Vikings come to Green Bay.

So congratulations, Favre. You've gone from a god-like hero in Green Bay to the one person that Packer fans would be happy to see torn into pieces and buried in dog shit. I hope your massive ego is stroked enough. Yeah, Favre will go into the HoF as a Packer, but he'll now have actual Packer fans pushing against that. Football is bigger than life in Wisconsin, and if Favre had any sense in his damn fool head, he would have remembered that.

I personally think that Favre will make the Vikings better, if only for the fact that teams now have to worry about more than Adrian Peterson. The Viks will win the NFC North, and make a big push into the playoffs. But I'm going to be rooting against him, because you can do a lot, but you never, EVER stab your fans in the back. And as far as Packer fans go, that's exactly what Favre has done.

What the f**k is wrong at NRO?

I'm one of the folks who subscribe to National Review on dead tree, but I'm really, really thinking about canceling my subscription at this point. Because at this time, most of what I see coming out of National Review is elitists who have fallen into the same attitude that the Democrat American Communist Party has - that Sarah Palin is somehow less of a conservative, or is somehow WRONG, because she's not some rich, snobbish, inside the beltway asshole. Case in point - NRO's editorial on Palin's "Death Panels" remark.

To conclude from these possibilities to the accusation that President Obama’s favored legislation will lead to “death panels” deciding whose life has sufficient value to be saved — let alone that Obama desires this outcome — is to leap across a logical canyon. It may well be that in a society as litigious as ours, government will err on the side of spending more rather than treating less. But that does not mean that there is nothing to worry about. Our response to Sarah Palin’s fans and her critics is to paraphrase Peter Viereck: We should be against hysteria — including hysteria about hysteria.

Let me ask a question - just why the hell do you think the "Death Panel" terminology was removed from the bill? Was it because the snobs at NRO talked Congress out of it? No, it was because Sarah Palin connected with the conservatives out there. Because she took a concept and boiled it down to it's base level, and the real conservatives took that and ran with it. Did I really think that there would be panels of people going thumbs up or thumbs down on whether granny got to live? No. But I do believe that had that language on "end of life" counseling remained in that bill, a government bean-counter would be deciding just how much the government would spend to keep granny alive. And in the end, it amounts to the same thing - care being withheld.

NRO needs to either pull their heads out of their collective ass, or they need to get the hell out of the way.

COR and Wall Street

As I have been pounding on the Healthcare takeover I have grown ever more frustrated that no pundits are discussing one of the truly serious issues facing our country if the (D)emocrat/Socialists conquer.

COR, is the ratio of claims paid to premiums collected and industry wide it runs about 1.02, or $1.02 in claims & administrative costs are paid out for every premium $1 collected. Efficient insurance companies dodge the burdensome state level regulation by staying close to this ratio and thereby expand their book of business by spreading the risk over ever more policy-holders through good underwriting practices.

So you say... No. No Insurance company is going to run at a loss. But they do. Why? Well... Billions of premium dollars flow in and the lag time between the payment of those premiums and the coverage of claims provides a float to the Insurance industry making them the largest capital investment source in America at... yes... 2%.

Wouldn't you borrow money at 2% if you could for reinvestment?

Now. Take a deep breath and let it sink in. Has the light bulb gone off yet?

What happens if the (D)emocrat's National Socialization project takes over the Health Insurance industry? What happens to all that capital?

It goes away.

Without those dollars what happens to the Stock Market?

It goes down. Way down.

What about the credit markets? Remember the last panic that justified the stampede that rationalized the 3/4 Trillion in TARP dollars, and the 1/2 Trillion dollar government spending expansion, and the 1 Trillion dollar stimulus? What will happen when the dollars behind 20% of the entire American economy are no longer available for capital investment in American business?

The American people know that the same people who wanted to pull the tube from Terri Schiavo want to be trusted not to pull the plug on grandma. Which is why they are appropriately skeptical of any hint that Obamacare would leave any power in federal hands to make those decisions. Four years ago, the Left was proud of its stance on withdrawing not just medical care but food and water itself from Terri Schiavo. That was their choice. If the price to be paid is a public in need of assurance that President Obama and his plan don’t share those values and won’t encourage the same thing, well, choices have consequences, and the voiceless dead can still haunt us in ways we had never foreseen.

The Democrats are the Party of Death, like it or not. It was the Democrats who demanded that Terry Shiavo die. It is the Democrats who insist that killing an unborn child for the convenience of the mother is somehow constitutional. It is the Democrats who talk about assisted suicide and euthanasia as somehow being fine and dandy.

Do we really want them creating a healthcare bill? Would you stake your life on it? How about the life of your parents?

President Obama and the congressional leadership are intent on creating a national health insurance exchange. In its various legislative forms, their version of the health insurance exchange is a powerful regulatory agency; it is not merely an administrative agency to facilitate enrollment and to promote choice and anything remotely approaching free-market competition.

In many respects, the national health insurance exchange resembles a solution in search of a problem. If the President or Congress wanted to create a national health insurance market, they would not need to create a national health insurance exchange--they would merely have to repeal existing federal barriers to insurers competing across state lines. If the President and Congress wanted to fix the inequities of the federal tax law, a key rationale for creating a health insurance exchange at the state level, all they would have to do is to reform the federal tax laws governing health insurance and end the practice of discriminating against those who cannot or do not get health insurance through their place of work.

If the objective of the President and Congress is to expand the role of the federal government in providing health insurance and determining the kind of health insurance that Americans will get, the national health insurance exchange is a convenient tool for that federal expansion and control. It would be tantamount to a national arena for the public plan to undercut private health plans and erode existing private health coverage.

There is little doubt that a national health insurance exchange, combined with a public plan, can achieve that policy objective. But there is also little doubt that such an objective is not what most Americans had in mind when they embraced the cause of comprehensive health reform.

The rationing system proposed by one of President Obama’s key health care advisors is particularly disturbing. I’m speaking of the “Complete Lives System” advocated by Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the brother of the president’s chief of staff. President Obama has not yet stated any opposition to the “Complete Lives System,” a system which, if enacted, would refuse to allocate medical resources to the elderly, the infirm, and the disabled who have less economic potential. [1] Why the silence from the president on this aspect of his nationalization of health care? Does he agree with the “Complete Lives System”? If not, then why is Dr. Emanuel his policy advisor? What is he advising the president on? I just learned that Dr. Emanuel is now distancing himself from his own work and claiming that his “thinking has evolved” on the question of rationing care to benefit the strong and deny the weak. [2] How convenient that he disavowed his own work only after the nature of his scholarship was revealed to the public at large.

All emphasis in the original. Now, I've heard some folks say that the term "Death Panel" is a bit too much hyperbole for them to swallow. OK, fine, what would those folks call it?

And it was only after Palin started speaking about "Death Panels" that the language was removed from the bill. Call it by whatever name you want, it was a section that would have given the government power to control live and death medical decisions. And that, my friends is flat out wrong. If it took over-the-top hyperbole to get it removed, so be it.

Which is amazing, if you ask me. Given the fact that the Republican Stupid Party has managed to do nothing more in the past month than just shut up and stop shooting themselves in the foot. Have they managed to make the case against socialized health care? No, ordinary people have done that. Have they managed to speak out against Obama's disastrous legislation? No, ordinary people did that. Have they managed to separate themselves one single bit from their Democrat American Communist Party congressfellows? Nope. They're still nothing more than Democrat American Communist Party Lite. The party of "Me too, only not as much!"

And yet Obama and his takeover of the health care system are still failing. Just what does that say about it, hmmmmm?

Since Mark is making all these declarations about what the Republican base must obviously believe, let's examine the actions of the Democrat base and see what they must obviously believe.

Let's start with what they know. As always, the right will be held to a higher standard than the left, so I'll limit myself to things that "I didn't know _________!" on a given subject would be as absurd as saying, "I didn't know professional wrestling was fake!"

1. They know that their party's House Financial Services Committee Chairman, House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee Chairman, House Speaker, Senate Banking, Housing & Urban Affairs Chairman, Senate Rules Committee Chairman, are all flat-out crooks, and make very little attempt to hide it.

2. They know that one of their primary fundraising organizations is wholly owned by a multibillionaire who makes no attempt to hide the fact that he manipulates the organization, and thus Democrat Party policy, for his own purposes.

3. They know that that one of their primary "activist" organizations is under indictment for voter registration fraud in a dozen states, and that this same organization is going to be given quite a bit of authority over the census, which determines what? Oh, just unimportant things like Congressional districting, electoral votes, stuff like that.

4. They know their party's current leader chose someone as Attorney General who declines to prosecute people caught on video engaging in blatant voter intimidation. Whether it's because the thugs in question were his same party or his same ethnicity is immaterial, it's quite obvious that the AG has neither the desire nor any intention of impartially enforcing the law. They also know this same leader nominated a Supreme Court Justice who demanded a case be judged on the race of those involved rather than on its merits.

5. They know that nothing the aforementioned leader says can be taken at face value. Nothing. I was before Single Payer before I was against it, the stimulus was not intended as a stimulus, you can start blaming me for the economy right now but it's your mess, there will be no lobbyists in my administration except for almost the entirety of my cabinet, it's time to embrace science rather than superstition even though my "science czar" is a eugenicist, everything will be discussed on C-SPAN and there will be a full debate and five full days for the American people to see the bill cos it's all about transparency (although the Republicans will be locked out of most of the process, I'll refuse FOIA requests, and I'll insist that the bills are too important to actually read them before I demand your unequivocal support), we must have a full and open debate on the issues while my senior advisor unleashes union thugs on my opponents, we have to get clear of the lies, disinformation, misinformation and distraction even though I'm pressuring the CBO to fudge their figures when they disagree with me....

...I could go on, but you see the point.

6. They know that this same leader produced more deficit in six months than every other President combined in the entire history of the Republic, all while preaching fiscal responsibility.

Okay, that's the highlights of what the Democrat base pretty much cannot help but know. And yet what quality, more than any other single factor, defines the difference between Republicans and Democrats? It is this:

When Republicans find out one of their leaders is making no real attempt to "walk the walk" (Ted Stevens is a good example) the base calls for him to be thrown out.

When Democrats find out one of their leaders is making no real attempt to "walk the walk" (Pelosi, Frank, Dodd, Murtha, Jackson, Rangel, Waters... sheesh, pick one) the base either defends him by demonizing his/her critics or says "So what?" and ignores it.

I'll do links if you ask, but this is already very long and 5 seconds on google will provide you all you want.

What conclusions can we draw from this? There are really only two choices:
Either

a) The Democrat base fully shares the corrupt, "it's all about my power, my perks, screw everybody who gets in the way, I don't give a shit if it's legal or not" mindset of the leaders they choose, or

b) The Democrat base considers ethics, honesty and the rule of law at best indifferent if not actually destructive to the process of good government.

I'm going to email that to a few Leftist co-workers of mine who've been accusing the right of lying about socialized health care.

Here, try this out

Tamara has an observation about the experience of shooting at Camp Perry, the gist of which is this - there are a lot of friendly people out there in the shooting world.

Just show up for a match in your street clothes with no gear, and folks will come up to you and ask "Do you need a spotting scope? A mat? A gun? Want some pointers?" For this to happen at Camp fricken' Perry is like showing up in the stands at Wimbledon and having Serena Williams or Andre Agassi walk up and ask "Do you want to play? Do you need a racket? I can let you borrow one..."

The one thing that I have found at shooting ranges, no matter when or where, is that most folks are as friendly as you could possibly imagine. When the step-son and I were at the range, there was a gentleman there who was kindly offering actual advice as well as his various firearms for the both of us. I got a chance to try out a .44 Mag, a 545 Casul, and a Desert Eagle. When I was shooting up in the Seattle area, there were plenty of people willing to swap advice, stories, and chances to shoot their guns.

Shooting is a brotherhood. I know it sounds cheesy, but it's true.

Random Thoughts

It's probably a good thing that I'm not near any Town Hall events right now, because given the liberal tendencies of the people of Wisconsin, I'd most likely have a front row seat to union thuggery. And being who I am, there's no way in hell I could watch union goons beat people and rip signs out of people's hands without stomping a mudhole in their ass.

And then I would have to explain to my boss why he was bailing me out of jail. Not good.

Gah.

My dog has COPD

And we don't know why. Now keep in mind that this poor hound started out her life in a frat house at the University of Washington, so there's no telling just how much dope this dog was forced to smoke as a puppy. And her second owners we don't know much about, but we have an inkling that the husband was abusive.

But with all that said, we've kept her healthy. She used to run with me until we noticed she couldn't keep up any more. The vet kept saying she was healthy, but that her joints just couldn't hold up. OK, well, walks are good as well. And then we moved, and things seemed to improve. But a while ago the Mrs. gave her a vaccination for Kennel Cough, and that's when everything went downhill. It started off as light coughing, and just kept getting worse, until last week the poor dog was hacking for ten minutes straight, and I watched a friggin' BUBBLE two inches across come flying out of her mouth and float away.

Vet time.

So since we've moved, we're at a new vet, and this vet is pretty good. She's checking the dog out, starts crossing out all the things it couldn't be (blood test says no kennel cough, no heartworm, etc). Finally after poking and prodding and much listening to the lungs, she says it's COPD. The second case she's ever seen in a dog.

So my dog is now on antibiotics and Prednisone.

You want to know what really scares me? If Obamacare passes, my dog will have better health care than we humans will.

The White House doesn't even bother to refute anything, they just push out some pre-made talking points and leave it at that. Pathetic.

What is even more pathetic is the way the Democrat American Communist Party is trying to demonize the citizens of this country who are standing up and letting their feelings and opinions be known. If anything highlights the way the Left feels about this country, it's the way they've reacted to the Tea Parties and protests, by trying to discredit the protesters rather than actually respond to their complaints. It's the classic leftist tactic of attacking the messenger, not the message. What their squealing really shows is that we're getting to them. Remember, the more they're scared, the more they'll attack people.

Gah. At this point I'm just glad that some Americans woke the hell up. I hope it's not too late.

All of those government-controlled health care systems out there, where do you think they get all their research from? By and large, it's from America. All those wonder drugs that come out for whatever condition you have, where do you think those come from? From American pharmaceutical companies. Oh, and let's not forget all the research that goes into making sure that your blood pressure medication doesn't interact and cancel out your heart medication, or your allergy medication, or your gout medication, or your thyroid medication, or your arthritis medication. What, you think that happened naturally? You think that pill A just magically worked with pill B by nature's doing? No my good people, there were millions, if not BILLIONS of dollars that went into research to make sure you could take Tylenol with your heart medication, and if you think the government is the one who paid for all of that research you're smoking more than just cigarettes. If you think the government is going to be the one paying for all of that research in the utopian, government run future, you're REALLY smoking crack.

Hey, how many drug companies are there in Canada right now? Great Britain? France? Compare them to America. Americans, and the much derided capitalist American health care system has provided more innovations and breakthroughs in health care than ANYONE on the planet, and it's safe to say that we've provided more of those than anyone else combined. Let the government take over health care, and that. Will. Cease. Enjoy whatever medication we currently have, because that's what we'll have twenty years from now. Of course, that's assuming that there will be anyone alive old enough to need it, after Obamacare decides that Granny isn't worth operating on, and issues an end of life order for her in order to save the government money.

It was a good day. I spent quite a bit of time with the step-son, ensuring that he remembered the basics, and then expounding on what he knew. He spent hours happily poking holes in paper at long distances. I then proceeded to sight in the muzzle-loader, and made sure the Mosin-Nagant was still sighted in. I'm certain that as of right now, I could take both of them hunting and hit what I was aiming at. I only recently got my M1911 fixed, and so this was the first range session in a long time for it. Ran a box through it, had two failure to feeds, but that could have been the steel case Wolf ammo. In any case, the gunsmith did a good repair job considering the thousands upon thousands of rounds that I've put through it over the years. The S&W ran sixty rounds through nicely, although you expect that with a S&W revolver.

All in all, it was a darn good day. Especially since I gave the wife time enough to set up the step-son's suprise birthday party without him having any hint of it.
