Insanity

I really can't believe this, although I suppose I'm going to have to believe it in the end.

The Mexican day laborer jailed in Gwinnett County for refusing tuberculosis treatment could be released by the end of this week, health officials said Tuesday.

But even though Francisco Santos would no longer be contagious, the 17-year-old would still not be cured — and he would not be a completely free man.

Mexican day laborer? Oh, you mean an illegal immigrant. Or as I've started using thanks to Malkin, criminal alien.

Gwinnett health officials jailed Santos Aug. 24 after he refused treatment for an active, contagious case of tuberculosis and threatened to flee to his native Mexico. Santos, who lives in Duluth, quickly started treatment. The events brought to mind the recent case of Andrew Speaker, the Atlanta lawyer who traveled abroad with tuberculosis and was held in isolation when he returned.

So, this guy who's in the country illegally had an active, contagious case of tuberculosis. Gosh, why shouldn't we just open up the borders for everyone to come in, right? Yet another example of why we need a fence on our Southern border.

Gwinnett health officials say they have stressed to Santos and his mother that leaving the area and neglecting his treatment could injure him, his family and the public. He would become a fugitive and he could become contagious again.

Here's a thought - we have a criminal alien who's got a very contagious, potentially life-threatening disease. He was refusing treatment for that disease. He shouldn't even be in this country to begin with! DEPORT HIS LAW-BREAKING, CRIMINAL, INFECTIOUS ASS! AND KICK HIS FAMILY OUT WITH HIM!

Piling on:

A 3-year-old girl was found abused and bleeding Thursday night, and officials have arrested her uncle, an illegal alien, for child molestation.

Salvador Luna, 29, who was previously deported, was arrested on suspicion of sexual abuse of a child and was taken to the Victorville sheriff’s station where he underwent a physical examination, said Detective Ryan Collins.

Deport, deport, deport the criminal aliens. Every outrage like this is one step closer to an American finally walking down to the border with a scoped rifle and a sack lunch. If the government continues to refuse to do it's job, then Americans will start doing it, and the world will not like the results.

Linky Love

Yep, it's time for some more linky love from yours truly.

Captain's Quarters: Uncle Chuck's Goalpost Movers, Inc. Here's a post that gets my dander up, because Chucky the Schmuck Schumer has continued in the fine Democrat American Communist Party tradition of slandering and insulting the US Military. To quote -

And let me be clear, the violence in Anbar has gone down despite the surge, not because of the surge. The inability of American soldiers to protect these tribes from al Qaeda said to these tribes we have to fight al Qaeda ourselves. It wasn't that the surge brought peace here. It was that the warlords took peace here, created a temporary peace here. And that is because there was no one else there protecting.

Got that? The surge in progress, Al-Queada in Iraq being torn apart, Anbar Province returning to civilization, all had NOTHING to do with the hard work and sacrifice of those bumbling baby-killers in the US military! Gosh, it's all so simple!

What a revolting pile of fecal material. I guess when people aren't buying your surrender plan quickly enough, you just go back to doing what you've done for years - denigrate the troops. Does anyone truly question just how much the Left hates the US military? I sure don't.

*****

Norman Hsu skips bail. Again. So the convicted fraud man who gave piles of money to the Democrat American Communist Party, especially to Hillary Clinton, skips bail and his whereabouts are unknown.

Gosh, that's a shockah right there! What kind of moron would even allow him to post bail, since he plead guilty to fraud FIFTEEN YEARS AGO, and then fled after admitting guilt?

So, we have a convicted criminal (a favorite voting block for the Democrat American Communist Party), who ran from the country after pleading guilty to fraud fifteen years ago, giving flaming assloads of money to the Democrat American Communist Party, and when he's nailed for a few more crimes some idiotic dipshit lets him post bail?

Some people really are too stupid to be allowed to breed. Of course, it happened in California! I know, I know, not all Californians are insane twitterpated morons. But it's that 90% of Californians who give the other 10% a bad name, right?

*****

I feel so old.

*****

Mrs. du Toit discusses a military fence in Iraq:

On a news program we watched last night there was a report on the border fence being built between Iraq and Iran, to control the flow of terrorists coming in and out of the country. The chaos of the open borders are allowing contraband and terrorists to get into Iraq.

The military who are managing the border are also wanting towers so they can see far into Iran to see what is happening further from the crossing. They anticipated that the border fencing and towers would be built/complete in the next 4 to 6 months.

Sure. THEY get a border fence.

(Not begrudging them the fence, but we’d like one, too, for all the same reasons… within the SAME time frame.)

*****

And from the other half of the du Toit's comes this comment with regards to Larry Craig's resignation, and why Craig should resign even while the Democrat American Communist Party keeps paedofiles, perverts and sex criminals in Congress.

I am not interested in keeping Republican scoundrels in office simply because the Democrats are able to do that with theirs. At some point, we have to say “what’s right is right”—and keeping a pervert in office just because he votes the way we like, is wrong.

There are Republican politicians we can elect to office, politicians who are honorable and who will vote the way we like. All we have to do is identify them, and substitute them for the bad ones.

The Democrats can go to hell with their filthy criminals and amoral sleazeballs. We’re better than they are.

Yep. Emphasis mine, by the way. And that entire quote explains in a nutshell why we're better than any Democrat American Communist Party member. They're perfectly happy being represented by a murdering drunk, a sick bastard who allowed a prostitution ring to be run from his government-paid-for apartment, various corrupt sleezeballs and the like. We, on the other hand, do our level best to kick any bastards like that out, because we DON'T want to be represented by them.

And just because I think it's funny

NFL predictions, as they relate to Star Wars. But c'mon, they couldn't have come up with something better for Seattle? Sheesh.

Damn, it's a busy day

You know those chicken wings I didn't get to eat this weekend? I made 'em up tonight. My own sauce. My scalp is sweating right now. Literally. I have sweat rolling off my head and down my neck.

Oh god, that's good.

One of my troops came in to the office today, needed a little help. So I'm helping him out with a paperwork issue, and he starts talking about a rat he killed this week. Now, he lives in the hills, raises goats and rabbits, a tiny little farm, yada yada yada. So he's telling me about how this rat fell into a trashcan that was partially full of water. He doesn't want to just tip the can over, because rats are a big problem in Puerto Rico. But it was a big rat, and he doesn't want to stick his hand into the barrel because it might get shredded. So he grabs a broom and pushes the rat under the water.

I guess it was a tough son-of-a-bitch, because it took a while to stop kicking. And for anyone who reads this and goes "Oh, the poor rat!" well, just step back and rethink yourself. We're talking about disease spreading, thieving little vermin here. There's no chance of rats going extinct, OK?

So anyways, he kills this rat. And then, because the damn thing was so big, he decides to weigh the sumbitch and see how heavy it was.

Sixteen pounds.

............

Um.......

SIXTEEN FUCKING POUNDS OF RAT! What the holy hell was that thing eating? WHAT KIND OF A RAT GROWS TO SIXTEEN FUCKING POUNDS?!?!?!?!

If we ever stop raising cows, we can just raise damn rats until their sixteen fucking pounds and eat THEM bastards.

Welcome to the "Great Outdoors"

Camping is one of the great American traditions. You pack up just enough equipment to be civilized, drive to the campground of your choice, pitch your tent and enjoy nature.

Well, this last weekend I found a lot of things I expected, other campers, hikers, bicyclists, campfires and good food. I also found things that I consider unthinkable, TV's, generators (at 3 in the morning), lights that cause retina burn, stereos, people running through your campsite ATV's, and people that not only lack respect for nature, but for their fellow campers.

It took me a while to tie this all together, but it seems that there are people that like to go "camping?" while destroying the environment that everyone else wants. I was thinking it was the RVers, whom I always believed were just campers that had gotten to old to set up camp without injuring themselves. After talking with several people, it appears the issue is with the ATVers.

Said ATVers are loud, obnoxious, inconsiderate and act as if they alone own the place and nobody else exists.

Over the weekend we were subjected to their teenage children running through our campsite repeatedly. When we finally said something we were declared *"uptight"*. They rode their ATV's through our campsite. The generator ran at all hours of the night and day, despite quiet hours being from 10pm to 6 am. When the entire campground was dark and quiet they came and lit up the generator and their retina burn lights. When we made comments about this, within our own camp, they declared us *"tree-huggers"*. After three days of enduring all of this, and their excessive partying through out the night my brother in law reached a breaking point. When ever they got excessively loud, after 10 pm he would set off the car alarm for about 30 seconds. This technique, despite bothering the other campers, proved to be more effective than talking to the camp host. Long will live the phrase"I have the key fob".

Though our last vestige of showing our annoyance while making sure we were well supplied was chopping wood at 730 am before starting our camp fire with a road flare. This does not sound bad, it is normal for camping. Though our ATV neighbors showed early on that they were annoyed by this normal function of camping.

Society never ceases to amaze me, sometime for good, unfortunately usually for bad. This was no exception. One thing that I considered sacred has been tarnished by another sect of self-centered people who need to go buy 50 acres in the middle of nowhere and leave those of us who want to camp in peace!

That's some good fact-checking there!

Yep! Good fact checking indeed!

I'm not surprised. The MSM has been flat out making shit up for years.

The title of the forum post was "What a wanker"

And I'm forced to agree. You want to see the picture perfect definition of "entitlement"? Then go look (very quickly!) at this Huffing-gas Post, where someone is whining about not making enough money.

You see, I’m one of those workers you read about that busts his butt every day, but still can’t afford to pay rent. From 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. every night I clean the 9th and 10th floor of the Cincinnati Textile Building. Just as you are sitting down to eat dinner with your kids, I’m turning your messy office into a sparkling fresh work space. I get paid $6.85 per hour to clean more than 20 bathroom stalls, to take out and scrub over 200 trash cans, and to clean up the office spaces of guys making at least three times my wages. Even when my supervisor gives me overtime, I’m bringing in less than $30 a day. That’s less than $600 a month.

What a load of crap. What a sniveling piss-ant excuse for a human being. What a pathetic oxygen thief.

From 5:00 to 9:00 PM, he's busting his butt. That works out to four hours a day....

Four. Hours. A. Fucking. Day. AND THIS DUMB ASS PIECE OF AMPHIBIAN SHIT IS WHINING ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO PAY HIS RENT?

Dear g-d, save us from idiots, morons, and the Democrat American Communist Party. Oh, wait, they're all ONE AND THE SAME!

Here's what someone needs to say to this whiny little bitch - "Hey asshole, why don't you get a second job? You know, like a job that will give you forty hours a week? Ya think? Then you could pay your rent!" No, he's got to post in Huffing-gas about his po' widdle self, cleaning toilets four hours a day, TOILETS, OH THE HUMANITY, and not making any money.

Improving himself so that he could get a better job? Nope, doesn't cross his mind. He'd much rather whine about how he can't make any money, and then demand that everyone else pay his bills. "MINIMUM WAGE SHOULD BE ENOUGH TO LIVE ON!" It might be enough, IF YOU ACTUALLY FUCKING WORKED FOR A LIVING, YOU SNIVELING SHITTY JACKASS! But not only does this sorry waste of protoplasm have a minimum wage job, HE DOES NOT EVEN WORK A FULL DAY!

You want to know why it's a minimum wage job? Because by and large, a minimum wage job is work that anyone with half a brain and no experience can do. You want to get paid more? Either get a second job, or actually improve yourself so that you can get a higher paying job! It really is that simple! Or find a job that will give you more hours!

I started out washing dishes in restaurant kitchens. Then, during slow times, I would turn to the chef and ask him to teach me how to make a dish. "Hey, can you show me how to do that?" Or the chef would ask "Hey Dave, can you peel these prawns for me?" and I say "Sure, if you show me what you're going to do with them."

Make enough food quickly enough, you stop washing dishes and start cooking. Why? Because any trained monkey can wash dishes. It's the people who can cook that get paid more. Go into any restaurant and ask around - the cooks make more than the dishwashers do. Therefore, I wanted to learn how to cook, so that I could get paid more!

This idiot, this shit-for-brains, this petulant maggot would rather scrub toilets four hours a day for the rest of his life and whine about not getting paid enough.

Either this idiot is a lying sack of shit, which since he's a Leftist wouldn't surprise me, or he really is that dumb and useless. He's an example of a person who shouldn't breed.

This blood-pressure spike brought to you by the GunThing.com Forum.

Pulling no punches

Mrs du Toit lets 'er rip in a new essay about equality. If you're offended by straight speech and a lack of political correctness, don't even bother reading it because it's about as straight and non-PC as you can get.

Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free? was an expression that was supposed to be sexist. So maybe it is sexist. That doesn’t make it untrue. Now that over half the country is unmarried and women are on the bottom of the socio-economic ladder as unmarrieds, they want the government to do something about wages and the cost of healthcare. What about the government doing something like printing placards that say, Work harder and earn more money to afford those things on your own! or Go to school to learn a more financially rewarding career? Women wanted equal opportunity. They got it and they don’t like it.

Equal opportunity also came with equal hard work. Now unmarried women want the government to make it unequal, and force married couples and successful men to support them through taxation, or “Do something about wages!” There’s never an explanation of what, exactly, the government is supposed to do about wages. Married women aren’t having issues with wages and they’re employed in the workforce, same as their unmarried peers. Sucks to be treated equally, eh?

If men planned and plotted to get everything they wanted from women, without having any accountability or responsibility to get it, they couldn’t have dreamed up something better than 1970s feminism.

This has been a common theme in many of Mrs. du Toit's essays. She will be one of the first people to admit that men and women are different. Well, a lot of people might admit that, albeit behind closed doors. The difference with Mrs. du Toit, who shares this opinion with my wife, is that they're damned happy that men and women are different. More to the point, they don't want to be treated like a man, they want to be treated like a woman.

Anyways, go read. It's worth the time.

Note to congresscritters

We know who you are, we know what you've done, and we know what you've said.

The sheets of paper seemed to be everywhere the lawmakers went in the Green Zone, distributed to Iraqi officials, U.S. officials and uniformed military of no particular rank. So when Rep. James P. Moran Jr. (D-Va.) asked a soldier last weekend just what he was holding, the congressman was taken aback to find out.

In the soldier's hand was a thumbnail biography, distributed before each of the congressmen's meetings in Baghdad, which let meeting participants such as that soldier know where each of the lawmakers stands on the war. "Moran on Iraq policy," read one section, going on to cite some the congressman's most incendiary statements, such as, "This has been the worst foreign policy fiasco in American history."

The bio of Rep. Ellen O. Tauscher (D-Calif.) - "TAU (rhymes with 'now')-sher," the bio helpfully relates - was no less pointed, even if she once supported the war and has taken heat from liberal Bay Area constituents who remain wary of her position. "Our forces are caught in the middle of an escalating sectarian conflict in Iraq, with no end in sight," the bio quotes.

"This is beyond parsing. This is being slimed in the Green Zone," Tauscher said of her bio.

See, the troops remember the way our congressional weasels think about them. The troops learned from the last war that the Democrat American Communist Party retreated and surrendered from. The surrender monkeys, slimeballs and various other assorted traitors that populate the Democrat American Communist Party can no longer count on their mouthpieces and whores in the MSM to cover for them, because those mouthpieces and whores no longer control all the flow of information.

We know what's being said. We know who's stabbing us in the back. And we're damn sure not going to let some worthless shithead get a photo op with "the troops!" when they've been sitting in Washington D.C. doing their best to ensure that the sacrifices the troops are making are all for naught.

If you don't want the troops to vomit every time they see your face, then perhaps you should try supporting them instead of their enemies.

Just a thought, that.

Perhaps it's time to restate a few things

One - if your only purpose in commenting is to insult anyone here, I'm going to edit the comment. Or just delete it outright if I don't think you're worth the effort of editing.

Two - if I have to edit or delete your comment, I'm going to ban your IP.

Three - If you don't like this blog, piss off. No, seriously, piss off. While I find it funny as hell that some half-brained idiot feels the need to leave a nastygram in the comments section, it only proves that you have no life, no intelligence, and no reason to continue living. Do yourself a favor, go back to eating your Cheetos in mommy's basement, and stop proving to the rest of the world that you're an idiot.

My weekend

Let me set the scene. I'm in the kitchen, preparing ingredients for chicken wings. The TV is set to ESPN, and I'm listening to come commentator blather on about all the football that's coming up this weekend. I have a beer in my hand, and it's not even noon yet. Oh yes, I'm ready for some (college) football.

Got it? Good. Because here's how my weekend went after that.

PHONE: Ring! Ring!

ME: %$#@&^!

PHONE: Ring! Ring!

ME: (Checking to see who it is - it's friends of the Raging Mrs. and I, who will henceforth be referred to as John and Jane. And as far as I know, John isn't into college football like I am.)

PHONE: Ring! Ring!

ME: (answering phone) Hey Jane, what's going on?

JANE: (with trepidation, because she knows what my plans are) Hey Dave... um..... are you busy?

ME: Um.... football... chickenwings... beeeeeeer.

JANE: Because you know that AC evaporator that John needs to replace?

ME: Um.... football? Chickenwings? BEER!

JANE: The thing is, he's got the dashboard off, but he's at the point where he needs some help, and he's starting to cuss in the garage...

ME: (whimpering) Football..... beer.... hotwings. Beer.

JANE: ....and I didn't know who else to call, and if this thing doesn't get done I won't have a vehicle, because there's parts all over the garage.....

ME: (crying) See you in half and hour.

Now, let's move to John and Jane's garage, where John and I are just now finding out where the damn bolts are situated for the AC/Heater core -

DAVE / JOHN: %$#@&^!

So yeah. Saturday? Under the hood. Sunday? Same 'ol, same 'ol. Two days, and I swear to god that if one more thing had gone wrong with that vehicle I would have towed it behind my truck and dumped it into San Juan Bay. It's a damn good thing that John has mad skillz yo, because at one point we had to haul out the welding cart and re-weld nuts back into place. Well, OK, John did the welding while I stood back and held a flashlight. After all, it's HIS damn vehicle we were working on. I also found out that there's nothing like Fast Orange to find every last little nick, scratch and cut on your hands when you're cleaning up. I did get some tasty dinners out of it all. But still......

I didn't watch a single damn bit of football either Saturday or Sunday. And hotwings? Hell no, those are still sitting in my freezer. Beer? Still sitting in my pantry, waiting for the cool kiss of ice to chill them to perfection. Which won't be today.

John and Jane owe me. Oh, they owe me big, and that tab will be around for a good loooooooooooooooong time.

Pardon me whilst I cackle and rub my hands together

Because one of Hillary's money men is getting investigated.

The U.S. Justice Department is investigating possible campaign-finance violations by top Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu, according to people familiar with the probe. On Friday, Mr. Hsu surrendered to California officials on an unrelated grand-theft charge dating to the early 1990s.

Mr. Hsu, who, until earlier this week was one of the biggest fundraisers for Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Rodham Clinton, was booked at the San Mateo County jail, where he was handcuffed and later released on $2 million bail. Wearing a black suit and white shirt, Mr. Hsu rushed to a waiting black Chevy Suburban outside the jail lobby Friday afternoon without answering any questions from reporters.

Mrs. Clinton's campaign declined to comment yesterday. The New York senator, along with other Democrats, has said she would turn over donations received from Mr. Hsu to charity.

The Democrat American Communist Party has been allowed to get away with so many crooked deals that they now operate with impunity when it comes to getting money and power. Well, here's one crook that got caught. And I would love to see it drag the Democrat American Communist Party down with him.

I think that might be a little too much to hope for, but still. I can't dream, can't I? And even if it only takes Cankles the Hildabeast down, well, that's still a victory.

Could it be?

Mrs. du Toit got the email.

Dear Friends,

On September 6, 2007, Fred Thompson will be announcing his intention to run for President of the United States with a webcast available to millions at www.imwithfred.com. The launch of the video will be followed by a five-day campaign tour through Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. On the evening of the 6th, there will also be a National House Party, during which there will be a conference call with Fred.

We can hope. Granted, I think it's still early, but at least he hasn't gone on a six-month "let's-prove-I'm-a-jackass" Tour like the other "candidates".

Yeah, those are scare quotes around that word. Because let's face it, except for Hunter and Tancredo, none of the other candidates should be elected to the presidency. Period, end of story.

And hell, I even LIKE some of them, I just don't think they should be President!

I'm in a hurry

I've got to get the yardwork done before football comes on. Menu for today? Chickenwings. Nice and hot. Oh Yeah, baby!

I watched the Washington-Syracuse game last night. I know that Syracuse isn't exactly a BCS Champ, but I think Washington did rather well, coming away with a convincing win.

I don't think that my WSU Cougars are going to be anywhere near as convincing against Wisconsin. But we can always hope.

FOOTBALL SEASON HAS STARTED! WHOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO!

OK, one more

Dolly brings up a good point. In order for me to continue in my military career, I have to submit to random drug tests. I'm willing to bet that everyone in the military goes through what I go through. And for those of you in the civilian world who just have to have someone in the same room with you looking at a mirror while you take a leak, I have someone over my shoulder looking straight at my dick while I try to piss into a bottle.

This is part and parcel to my military career. If I want to not submit to drug tests, I suppose I could always go flip burgers or something like that. But if you're in the military you have to deal with drug tests.

But I pay taxes. And my taxes go to welfare recipients and other people who exist solely to suck off the government tit.

So if I have to take a drug test to make money and pay taxes, why shouldn't those freeloaders have to take a drug test in order to take my tax dollars?

How about this - welfare recipients have to take random drug tests. And I don't mean "Oh, you have to piss in a bottle next week", I'm talking about the tests I have to submit to, which is being woken up at 5 AM and someone tells you "Get your ass to the unit, and don't bother taking a piss because you'll be doing that here."

If you pop hot for drugs, then FUCK YOU you don't get welfare. I don't give a shit if you have thirteen kids, you get kicked out. Maybe if you'd kept your legs shut you wouldn't have thirteen kids.

Is that harsh? Too fucking bad. GOC has a list of requirements if you don't want to end up poor and stupid.

1) Don't do drugs.

2) Graduate high school.

3) Don't have kids until you're married.

It is that simple. And if you're some drug smoking shithead, I don't want you getting any of my tax dollars.

Football has started

Ladies and Gentlemen, let me break it down for you:

I'm currently watching LSU vs. Mississippi State.

It's the begining of college football.

I'm a football junkie.

My WSU Cougars are playing Saturday against Wisconsin.

My Idaho Vandals are playing USC this weekend as well.

I don't think that either of my teams are going to win, but I'm going to watch it anyways because MY TEAMS ARE PLAYING FOOTBALL!

There are games all weekend long.

Do you really think I'll be posting this weekend? I've been looking for this weekend like a junkie looks for their next hit. If I could boil football down into a spoon, I'd inject it into my arms. The Raging Mrs. can confirm - two years ago, I got a case of beer and three bags of pretzels and told her not to bother me on Labor Day weekend. She asked why. I said "It's the first game of college football". She asked me who was playing. I said "I DON'T CARE, IT'S THE FIRST GAME OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL!"

I was drinking beer, eating pretzels, and screaming "RUN, MOTHERFUCKER, RUN!" for about 24 hours straight.

Don't expect much from me except for various drunken ramblings about the zone blitz.

Thatisall.

Anyone out there Arachnophobic?

Because, well.... DAMN!

WILLS POINT, Texas (AP) -- Entomologists are debating the origin and rarity of a sprawling spider web that blankets several trees, shrubs and the ground along a 200-yard stretch of trail in a North Texas park.

Officials at Lake Tawakoni State Park say the massive mosquito trap is a big attraction for some visitors, while others won't go anywhere near it.

"At first, it was so white it looked like fairyland," said Donna Garde, superintendent of the park about 45 miles east of Dallas. "Now it's filled with so many mosquitoes that it's turned a little brown. There are times you can literally hear the screech of millions of mosquitoes caught in those webs."

Right now, the Ragin' Mrs. is jumping around going "EEW! EEW! EEW!" And she probably doesn't even know why, until she reads this news.

A squad leader of mine when I was stationed in 2ID told me about his inital tour in the military. He was sent to Panama. And his new Squad Leader was giving him the run down about what to expect down there, what not to do, where not to go, yada yada yada. And in between telling him not to bother the monkeys and don't go into the jungle alone, he was told "Oh, and watch out for the spider." He asked "What kind of spiders?" His Squad Leader looked at him and said "No, not spiders; just watch out for the spider." So SSG Mac, who back then was Private Mac, asks "OK, just where is this... spider... I'm supposed to watch out for?"

"Oh, it's around the back of the barracks. Go take a look if you want, just don't touch the web."

So he trots around back of the barracks and sees:

That, my friends, is Nephila clavipes, or the Golden Silk Spider. It can grow to be over four inches long. And it had built it's web from the eaves of the barracks to the ground.

It was huge.

Now, I'm not squigged by much, but I think that if I walked around the back of the barracks and saw that thing hanging there, looking at me, I'd be inclined to buy the biggest damn bottle of Raid I could find and hose down that entire side of the building.

More evidence

That allowing the government to meddle at all with Health Care will get you killed.

Or your baby. This time, it's in Japan.

Japan's health minister has pledged to address the shortage of doctors in the country after a woman in labour was turned away by eight hospitals.

A ninth hospital refused to admit her even after she miscarried in an ambulance and her baby died.

The woman, who was in the sixth month of her pregnancy, lived just three minutes away from a hospital. But she was forced to travel 70km (45 miles) by ambulance looking for a facility that would admit her.

Captain Ed comments:

It's not the first time this has happened. Last year, a pregnant woman died under similar circumstances, only in that case twenty hospitals refused to admit her. None of them had bed space available, and Japan has a nationwide shortage of physicians, particularly in specialties such as obstetrics.

Why the shortage? Specialization costs more money, and in the Japanese system, the compensation does not make it worthwhile. Overall, compensation and malpractice costs have driven people away from studying to be physicians and surgeons. This is similar to the issues that Britain has had in the transplant specialties, first reported three years ago. Viable organ donations went to waste because the UK doesn't have enough transplant surgeons.

Japan has a somewhat different system than Britain or Canada. It allows for private insurers and facilities, but the government controls the market. It regulates prices, compensation, and the manner in which insurance operates. The effect is similar to that seen in other national health-care systems, which is that health care gets rationed through a mechanism other than patient choice.

Folks, in every country it's been put into practice, government health care has resulted in more government and less health care. There is absolutely no reason to get the idiots, morons and members of Congress (but I repeat myself) involved with YOUR health care.

The government has screwed up way too many things recently. Do you really think it would do a good job with YOUR health care? I sure as hell don't.

price fixing for proofage

Just today I was told that in Washington State that no alcohol may be discounted. Even on Military installations, Native American Reservations and Costco. This is the first time I have heard of it. I wonder who did what to get it through the states legislation. If anyone has information on it, please comment so that I may add it to this post.

I should have added this from the get go. Apparently the theory behind this is that lower prices for our favorite bebidas encourages people to drink more and thus encourages alcoholism.

Isn't that quaint...

current welfare reform at the federal level

I don't know how I missed this but it was actually passed during the Clinton year...

http://www.policyalmanac.org/social_welfare/welfare.shtml

The new program, called Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), differed from its predecessor in a number of important ways, including:

  • Eliminating the Welfare Entitlement: Recipients are no longer guaranteed welfare benefits based on eligibility. The 1996 law also eliminated a child care guarantee for welfare recipients, but provided increased funding ($13.9 billion over six years) for child care through a newly created Child Care and Community Development Block Grant. The 1996 law did not affect Medicaid or food stamp eligibility, though critics contend that links between these programs have resulted in numerous recipients being denied Medicaid and food stamp assistance.
  • Establishing Work Requirements: TANF requires recipients to be working within two years of receiving benefits. This general mandate is reinforced by rules requiring states to reach fixed and rising work participation thresholds. By 2002, 50 percent of families receiving assistance in every state must be engaged in work-related activities.
  • Establishing a Five Year Lifetime Limit on Assistance: To address long-term welfare dependency, TANF placed a five year lifetime limit on assistance, but allowed states to exempt up to 20 percent of such cases for hardship reasons. States are allowed to reduce this lifetime limit below 5 years, and almost half of the states have done so.

Somebody please shoot me

The Army internet network in Puerto Rico sucks. Bank of America sucks. The BoA phone tree, which sure has hell doesn't even give me the option of talking to a real live person sucks. And their website sucks even harder. I've never seen anything so blatantly designed to gain new customers while pissing off existing customers.

The government travel card sucks. DFAS Indianapolis sucks. Windoze Vista sucks huge dead donkey dick. And if you've never had an experience with any of the above named things, just count yourself lucky.

UPDATE: John Edwards sucks so damn hard he could make a million dollars in a Vegas strip club.

"I think Americans are actually willing to sacrifice," Edwards said Tuesday during a forum held by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. "One of the things they should be asked to do is drive more fuel efficient vehicles."

The former North Carolina senator was asked specifically if he would tell them to give up their SUVs, he said, "Yes."

Hey Dickhead.... can I call you Dickhead? Hey Dickhead - STOP LIVING IN A MASSIVE FUCKING AIR CONDITIONED MANSION, STOP DRIVING AROUND IN A FUCKING LIMO, STOP USING PRIVATE JETS TO FLY AROUND THIS COUNTRY, AND MAYBE, JUST MAYBE I'LL LISTEN TO YOUR STUPID FUCKING BULLSHIT! UNTIL THAT TIME, SHUT THE FUCK UP, YOU GOT-DAMNED HYPOCRITICAL, SLIMY, SLEAZY, SHITTY LITTLE FUCKING GIRLY-MAN!

The house I live in could fit into ONE of his mansion's rooms, and he wants ME to stop driving an SUV? Hell, I don't even OWN an SUV, but I'm about to go out and buy one, just to tell that whimpy little shit to go fuck himself!

Do you notice that the people who are telling Americans to stop doing things ("STOP DRIVING SUV'S! STOP USING TOILET PAPER! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!") are the very same worthless motherfuckers who use more natural resources in a fucking MONTH than we do ALL DAMN YEAR LONG! But oh, it's we who need to stop using up the earth's precious resources? Maybe when the people hysterically shrieking that we need to stop using up gas actually STOP USING UP GAS AT AN ASTOUNDING RATE, then I'll start thinking that they're serious. Until then, their actions prove that they're nothing but a bunch of fucking liars, worthless cockgoblins, hypocritical pieces of amphibian shit who would better serve the earth as fertilizer than as oxygen thieves.

Edwards was clearly popular with the group, several times drawing standing ovations, including once when he said weapons and equipment used by America's military needs to be made in the United States. He said now tanks and ammunition for M16 rifles are being made in other countries.

"If your tax dollars are being used to produce the products that keep America safe, that provide defense for the American people, those jobs should remain in the United States of America," Edwards said.
Hey Dickhead - who does the appropriations funding for the military? Who sets up the final contracts for the military? THE WORTHLESS CRAP WEASELS IN CONGRESS, THAT'S WHO! THE CONGRESS YOU WERE A PART OF UNTIL THE PEOPLE IN YOUR STATE GOT SMART AND KICKED YOUR WORTHLESS, STUPID, HAIRSPRAY-COVERED ASS TO THE CURB!

You HAD your chance Dickhead! NOW GO FUCK OFF AND LET THE ADULTS WORRY ABOUT THE COUNTRY!

God help us if any one of the Democrat American Communist Party gets elected to be president. You can just write the USA off as a world power in any way shape or form if that happens. I wouldn't trust any one of the Democrat Communists in any office higher than local dog-catcher. And even then, I'd only allow that if they were tacked with a microchip so we could make sure they didn't approach any schools or places where children congregate.

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: HEY DICKHEAD! BRECK GIRL! SILKY PONY! YOU CRAPTASTIC LUMP OF MENTALLY RETARDED PROTOPLASM!

YOU FIRST!

Go take a look at that photo! That's his palace, with at least four SUV's circled. How many more would we find if they weren't blocked by trees?

What a shitty little asshat!

illegal immigration

I have been very fortunate to have extremely candid discussions with legal immigrants and Naturalized Citizens of the United States of America about illegal immigration. I love discussing this problem with them because they have gone through the process. I have never met a legal immigrant that did not think illegal immigration is a problem that needs to be fixed! They know the process, the problems, the good, the bad, and the ugly of the process. One of these naturalized citizens is my brother in law. He knows many people on both sides. He does not think that amnesty is the solution. He understands that it would only further encourage the problem. His solution is a trinity that must be performed all at one time.

I: give a period of a couple years where the illegal immigrant(yes this affects Mexico the most) would have to go back to their county of origin and go through the process legally. During this time only these immigrants would be allowed back over the border. There would be no financial help. If they have to sell their houses and SUV's to make this work, then it would be done.
The reason that no help could be afforded is that if employers offered loans for servitude we we have issues of slavery, and I think that for the government to offer loans would be a mixed message, especially since they have not been paying their taxes to support the govenment and they need to redeem themselves with honor to prove they will be productive members of our society.

II: close the borders, secure them and stop giving incentives for people to come here illegally.
No instate tuition, welfare, no teaching in Spanish. Stop all the benefits and incentives.
Criminal, general background and all other normal checks would be done to make sure that we are gaining productive members of society.

III: the final part would be the employers. The empoyers would have to verify that all of their employees are legal, in an instant database. Most employers that hire illegal immigrants do so knowingly. Some states are trying to pass laws stating that employers knowingly hiring illegal immigrants would lose their business licenses. I would add to that to have their business siezed and sold at auction to deport said illegals.

FACT OR FICTION
*An item that Canada has added to prevent "Anchor babies" is that unless the parents are legal immigrants or citizens the baby does not get Canadian citizenship.

* yes, the Mexican government does encourage people to come here illegally.

*Part of the problem is that the USA limits the number of immigrants each year. Most, if not all of the countries that we have immigration from, have a lottery system that is mandated by the USA. In countries such as Mexico there is a great deal of cost with no guarantees, due to corruption. This is something that needs work.

*It was also brought to my attention that that if all illegal immigrants were pulled suddenly that many border states economies would struggle and be massively destabilized. This is one of the biggest reason for doing this over 4 or 5 years. It would allow for process during a reasonable amount of time, and all wanting to participate would be able to do so, and not so long as to prevent people who want to participate in the process.

*"Currently, Employers can be sued for discriminating against someone who they suspect is an illegal alien (like if they think their ID is fake). That has to be reversed and a national ID system for legal immigrants established before we can nail anymore employer balls to the wall."

There is no quick and easy answer for this problem. Amnesty is not the answer. I am aware that there are a lot of details that I don't have. This is the best plan that I have heard.

Aw, CRAP!

Good bye, Larry. Hasta la vista. Enjoy retirement. Because you ain't getting re-elected in Idaho after this.

Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) was arrested in June at a Minnesota airport by a plainclothes police officer investigating lewd conduct complaints in a men’s public restroom, according to an arrest report obtained by Roll Call Monday afternoon.

Craig’s arrest occurred just after noon on June 11 at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. On Aug. 8, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct in the Hennepin County District Court. He paid more than $500 in fines and fees, and a 10-day jail sentence was stayed. He also was given one year of probation with the court that began on Aug. 8.

A spokesman for Craig described the incident as a “he said/he said misunderstanding,” and said the office would release a fuller statement later Monday afternoon.

After he was arrested, Craig, who is married, was taken to the Airport Police Operations Center to be interviewed about the lewd conduct incident, according to the police report. At one point during the interview, Craig handed the plainclothes sergeant who arrested him a business card that identified him as a U.S. Senator and said, “What do you think about that?” the report states.

If it's true that he was trolling for gay sex in an airport restroom, he's sunk. If it's not true, he's still probably sunk, because he plead guilty. Idaho is a conservative state, folks. They don't like it when their elected representatives are getting hauled into a police station. For anything.

The part that sucks about this is the fact that Larry Craig is a staunch gun right supporter. But this report, after his vote FOR the Shamnesty Bill, just killed him in Idaho. There's damn near little chance of him getting re-elected in his district. The smart thing to do would be for him to resign right now, period end of story. The vote for Shamnesty was going to make it hard for people to vote for him. And now this? He's done.

Unlike the Democrat American Communist Party, the GOP base doesn't like having men who attempt to cheat on their wives with other men in airport bathrooms represent them in Congress. Let's hope he resigns and the Idaho Gov. puts up a replacement.

Yer damn skippy!

Amid the explosions echoing through the mountains of Afghanistan or the ruins of a neighborhood in Iraq, the robust aroma of a fine cigar is helping U.S. troops remember life back home.

Quality cigars, by some estimates, are second only to Starbucks coffee on the wish list of troops overseas. Where but Tampa, Cigar City, can the need best be met?

Enter Thompson Cigars, a 92-year-old retailer near Tampa International Airport, along with a dedicated employee and an ex-Navy man with a passion for helping the troops overseas.

Just awesome! If you smoke cigars, maybe tossing some business their way wouldn't hurt.

Spank you very much, Sondra!

(pssssst.... I used to go shooting with her before she had a blog! WHOOT!)

And since I was reading Mrs. du Toit

Go check out this post of hers:

Back when I worked at UCLA, a few people who had perform trend analysis in their job descriptions, when asked to actually do it, responded, “I do not know how to do that.” And you couldn’t fire them for that. The employment rules said that it was your duty as an employer to verify that the person had the skills before they were hired, but if it ended up that they didn’t, you had to provide the gap training necessary for them to do their job. If they lied about their college degrees or previous work experience, you couldn’t fire them for that either. You had to verify it BEFORE you hired them, and if you didn’t, too bad. Only after you had provided the training and they refused to do it could you fire them, with about six months of documenting how diligently you tried to help them do their job properly… the job they contractually obligated themselves to do when you hired them, with a job
description as part of the contract.

Employment no longer seems like a private contract between individuals, that either party may cancel at any time, with notice. It seems more like adoption to me!

Back when I went through Primary Leadership Development Course (now Warrior Leadership Course) the one thing they blasted you with was books. Tons of them. Field Manuals. Army Regulations. DA Pamphlets. I literally had four huge binders sitting on my desk in the classroom, and each binder had two or three different books in it. You couldn't memorize it all.

You weren't supposed to memorize it all.

You were supposed to figure out how to get the information out of those regulations and field manuals and pamphlets. One of the things that amazed me when I took the course was, after getting an answer to some question or another, one of my fellow students turned to me and asked "How the fuck do you KNOW this shit, Dave?" I don't know it. But I know where to get the information. See this section up front? It's called a Table of Contents. I know it looks all scary with the italicized letters and lotsa numbers, but if you can decode the not-so-hidden meaning behind the weird symbols (and by weird symbols I mean words written in plain English without slang or "Like, totally!") then YOU TOO can find the information you seek!

I think by now people know I'm officially a quartermaster. I'm a supply guy, specifically for the motor pools and warehouses. I'm trained on the ULLS-G system, SARSS-1 system, and the SAMS-1 system.

OK, OK, those stand for Unit Level Logistics System-Ground, Standard Army Retail Supply System Level 1, and Standard Army Maintenance System Level 1. Happy now? Good. To put it in layman's terms, I'm trained to work in a motorpool supply system, a warehouse or other mass distribution system, or a direct support unit that supports company and battalion sized units.

Anyone want to guess what role I'm currently filling in my unit right now? Anyone?

Personnel NCO.

Schooling? None, unless you consider going up to a admin NCO from another unit and getting advice "going to school". I haven't touched an ULLS-G system in over a year. I'm using entirely different systems, different programs, doing a job that I was never trained how to do. And how did I learn my job?

I opened up an Army Regulation. I learned as I went. I picked the brain of anyone who could help me. "Hey Sergeant, how do I do this or that?" And I listened to those people and learned from them. Hell, I'd interrupt them in mid-sentence and say "Wait, wait, I need to write this down." And I'd whip out my pen and notepad and start taking notes. When I would send paperwork up the chain, if it came back needing corrections I would annotate what needed correcting in red ink, and then I would keep the old copy in my files so that I could go back later, when I was doing something similar, to check and make sure I didn't make the same mistake twice.

Because let me tell you, if the Army gives you a job to do, they don't want to hear any whining about how you don't know how to do it. Fuck all that, learn how! And so I did.

Now that doesn't mean that I'm a master of my job, and if I got the chance to go to school for it I'd jump on it in a red-hot minute. But I can function, and give my Soldiers the support they need.

Tell me, does that make me the odd man out? Because if it does, well then we're in trouble.

From a female perspective

I'm sure by now you've all read Kim du Toit's rant on the Pussification of the Western Male. If not, go read it. I'll be here when you get back.

Well, Mrs. du Toit has her take on it as well. I'm not going to go all over her post, you can go read it as well and form your own opinions. But one of the points she makes resonated with me.

Men curse. They rant. They are louder than women. When they’re on one of these tirades after seeing or hearing something that appalls them, often women shut off. They stop listening, when this is exactly when they should be listening (if they really do want to know what the men around them think and want to hear about their innermost thoughts). They’ll think he’s just angry (and in a sort of condescending way) will decide that she won’t worry her pretty little head about his pretty little tantrum. When a woman rolls her eyes at her husband I want to slap her!

Noooooooooooo!

That is when you have to listen the hardest.

Anyone who knows me knows that I have a temper (No, really Dave? YOU? I don't believe it!) Granted, it's better now than it was years ago, but it's still there. And there are plenty of occasions where I pop a cork and just vent.

And my wife stands back and lets me vent. She knows that I'm not pissed at her, but she knows that I'm pissed, and doing nothing but bottling it up and keeping it under wraps does nothing but cause a slow boil that will explode in due time. It's better for me to let out some pressure than hold it in. But the wife does more than just let me vent - she listens to why I'm blowing a fuse. Maybe I'm dealing with a clueless fuckstick in my unit, or higher HQ. Maybe I'm dealing with San Juan traffic. Maybe I'm dealing with a million things at once, and nothing has gone right because other people keep screwing up. But I vent, and she listens.

And once my blood pressure has gone back down to human levels, she looks me dead in the eye and says "OK Dave, but what can you do about it?" That's not a sarcastic question, by the way. That's an honest query about what possibilities are out there. And she'll offer up suggestions. "Have you tried this? What about X, Y, or Z?"

I joke sometimes that I married her because she was the only woman in the world who could put up with my bullshit. But sometimes I think that's only half a joke. With my background and my past, there are times when I just need to decompress. My wife allows me to do that. She understands that I'm not upset with her. She doesn't get her feelings hurt. She just listens. Sometimes she'll go pour a glass of scotch, and once I'm done ranting and raving she'll set it down in front of me and again ask me "So, what can you do that you haven't tried yet?"

She's a real woman. Thank god she's my wife.

Today's PSA

Ok, all you parents out there. Or anyone who's planning on being a parent. Hell, anyone who thought to themselves "Hey, maybe twenty years from now I'll have a kid!" Anyone who works with kids, is around kids, or knows a kid from down the block.

A thong on a 25 year old female's ass is fun to look at. I understand that all those women out there want to be "hot", "sexy", whatever. I sure enjoy looking at my wife's ass when she's wearing a thong. So we all understand and agree - thongs can be a good thing.

But NOT... let repeat that, NOT..... one more time, NOT ON A TWELVE YEAR OLD GIRL! And please, for the love of god, if you're going to allow your twelve year old daughter to wear a thong, do not allow her to wear a pair of skimpy jeans and do all sorts of contortions at the store, forcing the guy behind the both of you to notice the fact that your barely-just-grew-tits daughter is sporting a whale-tail more appropriate for a brothel than the Post Exchange!

I'm serious here! I was trying to decide what gum I wanted, so I'm checking out the candy shelves they have right next to every cash register. Hmmmm, Extra, Dentyne, Altoids, lace thong, waitaminit!

Look, I do not want to see your adolescent daughter's ass. I don't want to see her nipples. I don't want to see her crotch, her tits, or anything else on her that should be covered up in public, OK? Hey, here's an idea - if you don't want your twelve or thirteen year old daughter fucking like a bunny when you're away at work, don't let her dress like a single nymphomaniac who's on a Friday night hunt for sex!

Call me prude, I don't care. Call me whatever you want. But I don't think that adolescent girls should be dressed in clothing that exposes her naughty bits. I don't think that girls, and at thirteen you are not a woman, you are a girl, I don't think that girls should be wearing the clothing equivalent of a sign reading "This pussy for rent".

You wonder why kids are so messed up these days? Here's a perfect example. Sheesh. "You can dress like a whore, but golly don't have sex!" Mixed messages, anyone?

This is America

We've heard the horror stories about terrorist actions coming out of the Middle East for a while. Al Queada cutting off a man's face. Cooking someone's son and then feeding the son to the parents.

We all know that the terrorists are sub-human pond scum. Doing things like setting fire to a five year old boy. What kind of mindless, soul-less thing does that? An islamic terrorist does.

Americans on the other hand, well, we take care of five year old boys who have been set on fire by the terrorists.

But, but, but....

Um, uh, everyone knows that our soldiers are dying in ChimpyMcHitlerburton's fake war! And it's a bunch of dumb minority soldiers who got suckered into fighting!

That's right, more soldiers died under Jimmah Cah-duh than under President Bush.

Damn, for all the rhetoric coming out of the Left, you'd think those numbers would be reversed. But it seems that them white folks keep dying at a higher rate than any poor oppressed minority. I guess that's one more talking point shot down. At this rate, the lying moonbats are going to have to actually do some thinking!

HA! I kill me. We all know the Left side of the political sphere doesn't actually think for themselves. Their masters think for them.

My goodness, it's the same for Afghanistan. The report I linked to also has statistics for Korea, Viet Nam, and WWII. Go take a look. It's always helpful to be mentally armed when dealing with a moonbat attack.

Piling on

The more you look, the more you find.

What caused these nurses to hang back from offering the ordinary, unskilled comfort that would once have been seen as the heart of their calling? I am tempted to simply blame it on the NHS. Certainly this case is something to set against all those stories we hear from those benighted lands where healthcare is not financed by taxation. Of course I do blame the NHS for the dreary catalogue of delays and mismanagement that Catherine Brown suffered before the birth; the wait for a scan, the further wait for pain relief, and the fact that she had to lie in a mixed sex ward and the fact that they nearly dumped Edward's dead body. But that is old hat. Things were no different a decade and a half ago when I was in labour in another hospital in Essex and the midwife was obliged to run out into the corridor and yell "Where's the fucking obstetrician?" And my would-be epidural man popped his head round the door and announced that he was ready to begin twenty minutes after the birth. I did not hold it against them. It was a difficult day, lots of births happening at the same time. At least they tried. In Queen's Hospital as Catherine Brown crouched over the support bar of a disabled person's lavatory to deliver her doomed child, they felt themselves unqualified to try. More than their jobs were worth.

(emphasis mine)

Everywhere the government takes control of Health Care, the quality of Health Care begins to plummet. How many people died during a heat wave in France a few years ago? Thousands. In a heat wave.

Government Health Care. Socialized Health Care. Single-Payer Health Care. I don't care what you call it, it all amounts to the same thing. Piss poor health care and the deaths of people who could have lived.

In response to a commenter

Got a comment on this post from a Canadian who was a bit put off by my characterization of the Canadian health care system. His comment, in it's entirety:

Wait a minute.

I am a Conservative from Canada.

While I admit, our systems is not perfect, I'll also tell you that your's is not either.

Perhaps if you knew something about us you would understand.

Please temper your 'astonishment' with these facts.

The Province of Alberta’s economy is booming. Infrastructure is having a hard time keeping up. Everything from health care to transit to daycare to power to sewage and so on is stressed.

Look at a map. Canada is VAST. And population densities vary greatly. Saying that no Canadian hospital had four neonatal beds is just plain dumb. I'm sure there were lots of Canadian hospitals that could have accommodated met the need for beds. The choice to go to Montana had more to do with proximity than anything else.

A ‘small town’ of 60000? Is that what you call a small town? To put it into perspective, the Province of Saskatchewan (the Neighbour to Alberta) has less than a million people and is comparable in size to Montana, Wyoming and Utah combined.

You don't think people die because of the deficiencies of your system? Ok. Whatever.

I look at this as an isolated incident. There were many mitigating facts that you are not aware of, or chose to ignore. You might also be unaware of the fact that the Alberta’s healthcare system will have to pony up $200,000 for the service. But the whole thing would have cost Canadian taxpayers in the order of $60,000 if they’d had the capacity. On the face of it, our system would seem to more efficient…

Now, do I believe that all health care provided should be done so by the government? Well no. I personally have no problem with privatization of some of it. My view is somewhat controversial in Canada. But when it comes to health care Canadians as a whole are not very pragmatic. But let me tell you that the ‘survival of the richest’ system you have is not the ideal. Not by a long shot.

My comment, which is posted here because it's too large for Haloscan:

No, I don't think that the American system of health care is perfect. I worked in a hospital for years when I lived in Seattle, and I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly. But to characterize it as "survival of the richest" is just flat out wrong.

Let me put it this way: If there was a Canadian hospital capable of taking care of the medical situation, then why wasn't the mother sent there?

Look, I don't want to just start taking random pot-shots at Canada. My respect for the Canadian Armed Forces and the majority of Canadians has been vocalized on this blog several times.

However, the Canadian government, and by proxy the people who voted that government into power, have made quite a mess of a few things. For example, they've gutted your military and reduced it to a weak shadow of it's former self. Why? Because the USA is here to do the heavy lifting.

I find that horrifying. (And bear with me, because this does have a point that relates to the topic at hand.) During the Invasion of Normandy, the German troops would refuse to engage with the Canadian divisions, because the Canadians killed too many Germans. So the Germans would search out American and British troops instead, and simply avoid the Canadians whenever possible.

In short, the Canadian military used to kick ass. And now, your military couldn't protect your own country if you needed to. Not due to a lack of fighting ability, but due to simply a lack of personnel.

But you don't need to be able to fight an invading force, because anyone who even thinks about invading Canada is going to get such a red, white and blue asswhipping that people two centuries from now would look on the invading country as some of the stupidest people ever born. In short, you've subsidized your military obligations to the USA.

You're not the only country to have done so. During the 1990's, when the situation in Bosnia came to a head, the French military had to rent out tourist ferries in order to get it's troops transported to where they needed to be. The only military in Europe that could stand toe to toe with America is Britain's and that would be a short lived battle because they don't have the logistical capabilities they used to have. They got rid of them. Didn't want to spend money on them when American had everything they needed!

Now, here's where that analogy ties in.

In some bit, the same could be said of your medical system. Is American health care expensive? Yes. Part of that is the fact that it's America that's paying for all these nifty new drugs and machines that keep coming out. That cost gets passed down to the consumer. Canada and the rest of the world are riding on America's coat-tails when it comes to medical innovation. New drugs aren't cheap - there is millions of dollars invested before the drug even starts to be tested. And most drugs don't pass FDA testing, which means that the millions invested in that drug are now gone with no return. All of that cost is passed down in the cost of new drugs.

New drugs, by the way, which are not available in Canada. Because your government will not honor the patent on them. Many countries refuse to do so. They also refuse to pay the price set by the drug companies, which means that while Americans may bitch about drug prices, they're at least able to buy them. There are many countries that can't or won't. There's a reason why Americans have a higher survival rate after cancer than all of Europe. It takes drugs about four to seven years from the date of release to make it up to Canada and many other parts of the world. Or, in other words, they don't get released in Canada until the patent runs out.

Another part of of the cost is the American sue-happy idiots who want to make a quick paycheck by suing doctors. That cost also gets passed down to the consumer. That's a problem that we in American need to solve.

Here's another reason health care in America is expensive: The people who pay for health care are subsidizing those who will not. Don't make the mistake of thinking that people who don't have money don't get health care - I've seen first hand millions of dollars spent on medical care for people who couldn't even pay for a candy bar. It's illegal to refuse health care to anyone in a Hospital. I've seen people who could not pay, would not pay, and had no intention of paying for health care spent months on a floor of my hospital. They were never refused health care. So what does that mean? It means that people now whine about not getting elective surgery paid for by someone else, but nobody is going to die from a lack of health care. Period. End of story.

Back to the story that started all of this - if there was another hospital within a three-hundred mile radius that could have handled the mother and her quadruplets, where was it? Why did this woman have to get sent to another country to have her babies?

The fact that this question even needs to be asked should show you how far your medical system has fallen. OK, so maybe that hospital was full. There wasn't another hospital within THREE HUNDRED MILES that could have taken them?

That's an issue.

By the way, I don't just temper my option of the Canadian health care system on my own experiences, I also listen to people from Canada. When I worked at the hospital in Seattle, I saw plenty of Canadians who were coming down to get medical treatment that they either couldn't get in Canada, or could not get it in the appropriate amount of time. I have seen people die because of a LACK of health care from the Canadian system.

So in the end, I never claimed that the American health care system was the bee's knees. But I will make this statement: It's better than most of the systems out there. Including Canada's.
Winston Churchill once said "Democracy is the worst system of government, except for every other one." The same could be said of a lot of things American. Our health care system might have it's bugs, but if my life were on the line, I'd haul my ass to America before I go anywhere else.

And a lot of other people would as well. They do it every day.

Still Busy

Let me put it this way.

Two weekends ago - promotion board. Then instructing marksmanship on a laser training system.

Two weeks ago - busting my ass with the unit's deactivation trying to ensure that the troops were taken care of.

Last weekend - drill - busting my ass with the unit's deactivation trying to ensure that the troops were taken care of.

This week - trying to tie up all loose ends with paperwork, getting orders for the troops, transfers, awards, ect., dealing with files and other various assorted things needed to help the troops.

This weekend - UPL course on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Next week - more of the same.

So for those that don't have basic math skills, this is going to be nineteen straight days of hopping like a one-legged man in an ass kicking contest. So just expect posting to be somewhat light from me for a little while. When it's all over, I'm going to crash into bed and sleep for forty-eight hours without interruption. I'll have the neighbors come take care of the dog, if I need to.

Adding on to my wife's post below

I found this via The Smallest Minority. Go take a look at a typical airbrushing job done for magazines. You know all those "hot" women on the covers and pages of magazines?

Yeah right.

No wonder American society has a completely unrealistic idea of what "beauty" really is. Even the models don't meet the standard for beauty these days. Think about that! The women held up as standards of good looking women are airbrushed, photoshopped, and altered so that every photograph is nothing more than an artful lie. And yet, women are supposed to fit this standard of beauty?

I don't think so.

My disgust with modern models has been voiced on this blog a couple of times. Let me restate it right now - the modern picture of "beauty" is a fake, a fraud, a lie perpetuated by European fashion designers who prefer adolescent boys rather than full figured women. For anyone who wants to know what real women look like, may I suggest a perusal of Kim du Toit's Weekend Women? Just skip past the few men that he puts up for his women readers.

Anyways, that's that.

Twiggy and the Media VS reality

I give this article a big DUH!!!! Unfortunately there are still a lot of people that still can not get this concept through their thick skulls.

The Media Says You're Too Fat, What do You Say?

It's no secret that American women are preoccupied with body image. The pervasive images of thin women found all over the media (usually a size two or smaller) have given women a skewed view of what the average female body should look like.

Increased exposure to images of thin, airbrushed, female bodies can be linked to depression, loss of self-esteem, and the development of unhealthy eating habits, reports the Media Awareness Network.

What's more, 78 percent of women say that they are bigger than they want to be. And, 56 percent of women want to be a size 8 or smaller (when the average size is 12), according to a survey of 2,000 women.

The survey — conducted by TSC and sponsored by Slim-Fast — examined the psychology of size and how women view their body. A few of the key findings include:

  • Out of the women who felt poorly about their body 65 percent avoid going to the beach or the pool; 42 percent avoid shopping for clothes; 40 percent feel uncomfortable being nude in front of their partner.
  • Only one in five women considers herself to be the ideal size.
  • Most survey participants said they need to lose an average of 38 pounds to reach their ideal size.
"How you feel about your appearance affects how you live your life, especially your attitude toward yourself," says Dr. Denise Martz, a clinical psychologist who designed the survey, in a PRNewswire report.

"The wider the gap between your ideal size and your actual size … the less likely you are to feel happy confident, attractive, sexy of in control," Martz adds.

The survey also found that as the media continues to promote thin body images, women (75 percent surveyed) are less likely to be happy with their appearance, long after they've reached their goal weight.

Martz advises that women pay less attention to the thin images prevalent in the media and create "realistic weight loss goals." Only, then will women have a healthy attitude toward their bodies.

medical coverage for other than active duty (retirees, reservists and their families)

I was initially alarmed when I read this article from Military.com. I am very happy to see the military is not forsaking any of it's Active component members, this should include mobilized and deployed reservists and their families. Though, my main concern with this plan is health care for the retirees. It appears they would be the ones mostly hit by this program. Being at Fort Buchanan, I have seen what it does when you start taking away basic necessity benefits. When you are under contract you can ultimately say, the price is too high and not sign again. Though it appears that the people being hit by this have served their contract for their country and are now having their benefits stripped. We are talking about our most vulnerable adults that do not have the mobility a lot of us have. I understand the military is in a major budget crunch and has to find a way to make ends meet, but I do not believe this is the correct path.

TRICARE Eyes Fewer 'Prime' Networks

Some TRICARE Prime Networks Seen Too Costly To Keep

More than 168,000 TRICARE Prime enrollees -- those in managed care networks set up more than 40 miles from a military base or a base closure site -- could lose access to those networks and therefore pay higher out-of-pocket costs under new TRICARE support contracts to take effect in 2009.

Retiree advocates say a proposed change to the next generation of contracts, floated by TRICARE in a draft bid proposal, would encourage contractors like Humana, TriWest and Health Net to make more cost-competitive bids by dismantling provider networks that aren’t near military treatment facilities or Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) sites.

Cutting the number of Prime Service Areas, or PSAs, would save the government money, but it would hit thousands of beneficiaries in the wallet. Retirees, their spouses and survivors living more than 40 miles from base would lose access both to TRICARE Prime and also to TRICARE Extra, the military’s preferred provider option. They would have to shift to TRICARE Standard, which for beneficiaries is the most costly of TRICARE’s three options. The number of doctors willing to accept TRICARE patients also could tighten in areas where PSAs no longer would exist.

TRICARE officials declined to comment on the potential effect of the draft Request for Proposal, or RFP, which was released for review by potential bidders and other interested parties a few months ago. Officials said they don’t want to influence comments they receive. An official did emphasize that the RFP is only a draft. But the comment period in fact closed July 19 with few filed. A final RFP is expected to be issued soon.

The new contracts likely will be awarded next year, take effect in March 2009 and run for six years. Such contracts are vital to TRICARE, the health plan of 9.2 million military beneficiaries. More than half of all beneficiaries, roughly 5 million, are enrollees in Prime, the managed care option. Service members get care at no charge. Other Prime enrollees pay an annual fee of $230 for individual or $460 for family coverage, and modest co-payments for doctor visits, lab tests and hospital care.

Beneficiaries who prefer to chose their own doctors, or who can’t access Prime where they live, use TRICARE Standard instead, a fee-for-service plan. Standard users pay an annual deductible of up to $150 for individuals or $300 for families, plus a hefty share of all medical bills -- 20 or 25 percent of “allowed charges” depending on patient category. Standard users can be stuck with additional costs if doctors won’t accept TRICARE allowable rates. But total medical costs per family cannot exceed a $3000 a year catastrophic cap.

A third option is TRICARE Extra, also for patients not enrolled in Prime. Extra provides a five percent discount on co-payments set under Standard because beneficiaries agree to use a Prime network provider.

Because the military only has hospitals, clinics and staff to treat a fraction its beneficiary population, it partners with large private-sector healthcare companies to run robust networks of healthcare providers. Support contracts for Prime alone cost the Department of Defense an estimated $6 billion a year.

Humana Military Health Services, headquartered in Louisville, Ky., has the managed care contract for the south region. TriWest Healthcare Alliance of Phoenix services the western region. Health Net Federal Services, of Rancho Cordova, Calif., has the north region contract.

When these current contracts were let, companies were allowed to add millions of dollars to their offers by promising to establish PSAs for beneficiaries living far from any base. Contractors were rewarded, or at least not punished, for such initiatives. Even if they could not claim to be the lowest bidder, they could still win the contract by claiming best value.

The draft RFP for the next generation of contracts says specifically that bids will be judged on providing Prime networks only for “government mandated PSAs,” those near military treatment facilities and BRAC sites. Any additional PSAs “will be evaluated as neutral,” which means a contractor will not help their competitiveness in this round by promising to extend the number of PSAs beyond base catchment areas.

At our request, TRICARE officials gathered from the three current contractors their estimate on the number of beneficiaries enrolled in PSAs that are more than 40 miles from bases or BRAC sites.

Humana, which touts 100 percent Prime coverage across the South region, reports 90,281 beneficiaries enrolled in these non-government Prime service areas. In the North region, Health Net has 18 PSAs outside of government areas with 59,049 beneficiaries enrolled. In the West region, TriWest operates only eight of these PSAs. They have 18,738 enrollees.

No representative for any of the three current contractors agreed to speak on the record about the potential impact on beneficiaries if the next support contracts adhere to TRICARE’s draft guidance. One source said Humana officials are particularly upset, given their investment in creating Prime service areas across the South region. With stiff competition expected for the next multi-billion dollar contract, Humana officials reportedly see the proposed neutrality toward operating region-wide PSAs as targeting a key advantage they hold over competitors.

TRICARE Prime Remote coverage would be unaffected by the new contracts. This special program allows active duty members and their families assigned away from military treatment facilities to get whatever care they need, from whatever doctor they choose, without paying more out of pocket than they would if they were enrolled in Prime.

Vick plead guilty

What a dumbass. Seriously, what a moronic dumbass. Not for pleading guilty, but for getting into this situation in the first place. I'm not going to get into the moral issues of dogfighting, because I think we all know what those are, and I don't need to go into it again. But just how much money is he going to lose because of this? His career could very well go down the drain, and it's almost certain that the Falcons are going to cut him loose, as they should.

This is a case of letting your base instincts control you. And it's going to cost him. Millions.

What a dumbass.

Follow the links

Instapundit links to Don Surber, who links to Kate and a whole host of others.

A rare set of identical quadruplets, born this week to a Calgary woman at a Montana hospital, are in good health and two of them were strong enough to be transported back here Thursday.

The naturally conceived baby girls -- Autumn, Brooke, Calissa and Dahlia -- were delivered by caesarean section Sunday in Great Falls, their weights ranging between two pounds, six ounces and two pounds, 15 ounces.

Their mother, Calgarian Karen Jepp, was transferred to Benefis Hospital in Montana last week when she began showing signs of going into labour, and no Canadian hospital had enough neonatal intensive-care beds for all four babies.

Stop. Stop stop stop stop stop. No Canadian hospital? Not one?

That's a problem, folks. A big problem. Anyone who thinks that handing healthcare over to the government is going to help anyone other than politicians needs to be beated until they get some sense into their thick skulls. But don't just take my word for it. Go read Kate's piece, it's well worth the time spend reading it. There are horror stories about the British NHS that would curl your toes in disgust. Allowing the government to control the healthcare system in America would result in people dying left and right. It wouldn't happen immidiately, but it would happen eventually. All you need to do is look around at the rest of the world. It's not like government healthcare is a brand-new idea, it's being instituted in quite a few countries. And people, when possible, are hightailing it to the good old US of A for healthcare.

Think about it - no Canadian hospital had four neonatal beds. Yet a hospital in a small town of less than 60,000 people was able to provide the medical care this woman and her children needed.

If that doesn't paint a picture of what's wrong with socialist healthcare schemes, I don't know what will.

Drool

For those who don't know, the Ragin' Mrs. and I are foodies. We love food. We love to cook food, eat food, design food receipies, everything. We bake our own bread. We make our own sausage. And we make our own ham.

Yes, ham. We couldn't find a ham that we liked down here, without paying bundles of cash. So we started curing our own hams. First in a salt/spice cure, then smoked, and then wine. We found a couple of different curing techniques, and blended them together to make our own ham. The result is delicious.

Anyways, I told you all that so I could tell you this:

Spaniards are nothing if not dedicated eaters.

Now, hard-core foodies are drooling over the prospect of something truly superlative from Spain, at least in price: a salt-cured ham costing about $2,100 per leg, or a cruel $160 per pound. It's a price believed to make it the most expensive ham in the
world. Don't grab your wallet just yet. And forget about asking for just a slice. The 2006 Alba Quercus Reserve (as this pricey pork will be known) won't be available until late 2008 and you must buy the whole ham or nothing at all. But that hasn't dissuaded gastronomic Web sites and blogs from buzzing with talk of the farm where it is being produced, likening it to a Mount Olympus of pork.

THAT, my friends, is a man dedicated to making ham.

Their herds of black Iberian beauties are kept on a handful of acorn-rich farms in the surrounding meadowlands, walking freely up to 6 miles daily without any wineherds to look after them.

After the pigs are butchered, they are cured in high-grade sea salts and refrigerated at 39 degrees. The salt is wiped off after about 12 days. Over the course of the next three months, the temperature is gradually raised to 68 degrees.

The hams then are brought into one of Maldonado's two warehouse-size cellars where they cure for two years, hanging on a series of interconnected hooks from floor to ceiling, like curtains.

If I could, that's what I would do for a living. Mmmmmmmmmm..... ham.......
