I wanna see if this works.

Time is not on my side
I've been so busy lately that I haven't had a chance to blog about much of anything. I don't see this changing in the near future. We'll see. Expect the level of suckitude to continue at the same pace.

Zipping it up
Ever since I quit smoking cigarettes, my Zippo lighters have been sitting in a box unused. You don't want to light a cigar with a Zippo, the fuel makes it taste like ass.
Saturday, when I went into my local cigar shop (which is closing, dammit), I found these bad boys. They replace the inner guts of a Zippo with a torch lighter, so I can now use them for my cigars, burning stuff, and what have you.
So my brass Zippo, with "Molon Labe" inscribed on it? Back in use. Booyah, baby.

Random Earworm
I had a Benny Goodman CD years ago that got ripped off. It had the full version of "Sing Sing Sing" from Carnegie Hall on it, where Gene Krupa wouldn't stop playing. 14 minutes of musical brilliance. But one of the hidden gems was a short song called "Runnin' Wild". The Benny Goodman Quartet, with Lionel Hampton on vibes. I can't keep myself from moving when I hear this song.
That there is music for the sheer joy of making music.
That there is music for the sheer joy of making music.
This is what I would like to say
To all my liberal relatives. Were I still on facebook, I would post it whole and tell my family to choke on it.
!!!!
Read it all. All of it. This is my internal monologue.
First they came for the blacks, and I spoke up because it was wrong, even though I'm not black.
Then they came for the gays, and I spoke up, even though I'm not gay.
Then they came for the Muslims, and I spoke up, because it was wrong, even though I'm an atheist.
When they came for illegal aliens, I spoke up, even though I'm a legal immigrant.
Then they came for the pornographers, rebels and dissenters and their speech and flag burning, and I spoke up, because rights are not only for the establishment.
Then they came for the gun owners, and you liberal shitbags threw me under the bus, even though I'd done nothing wrong. So when they come to put you on the train, you can fucking choke and die.
~~~
Or you can commit seppuku with a chainsaw. I really don't care anymore. This is the end of my support for any liberal cause, because liberals have become anything but.
Confirmed: Obama did nothing while Americans died in Benghazi
You can't stop the signal, Mal.
But if you're reading this blog, you knew that already.
Impeachment should begin. Obama Delenda Est.
Gratitude
I just had a very humbling night. Not in a bad way. I'll post more once I've gotten some sleep. But it was a night that made me experience a deep sense of gratitude towards quite a few folks.
Had my physical today
....Among other tasks that had to be accomplished. Blood work-up, BP check, yada yada yada.
BP was 113 over 74. That's the lowest it's been since it started getting recorded. As in, ever. Cholesterol was a tad bit high, but I'd eaten a bacon and blue cheese sandwich the day before they drew blood, so that accounts for most of it. My good cholesterol, the HDL, was 52. Supposedly that's a good sign.
All in all, not bad for a broken down, grumpy old shit! Cigar time!
Wow
They say that you need to know when you can't do what you do any more. The Pope has come to that realization.
Pope Benedict had to follow in the footsteps of someone who was being called a saint while he was still alive. He then worked to deal with the fall-out of the homosexual pedophile priests in America, the slow disintegration of the church liturgy and other problems that had been put on the back burner for decades. He advocated for greater punishment for child abuse in any form, assisted in bringing back the Traditional Latin Mass to America, and pushed for other reforms too many to list.
He's done an admirable job. And now he's giving up power, willingly, because he knows that he cannot adequately fulfill the position in his physical condition.
That, my friends, is humility. We all know people who refuse to give up any power, no matter how small or how little. And here's a man who is giving up being the leader of over a BILLION people world wide, a man who holds a position of incomparable influence, for the good of that organization.
We can only hope that the next Pope comes close to who Pope Benedict is.
The Empty Chair
Not just a rhetorical device.
Obama needs to be impeached, both for Benghazi and for the Fast and Furious debacle.
SEN. GRAHAM: Mr. Secretary, you didn’t know how long the attack would last. Did you ever call him and say, Mr. President, it looks like we don’t have anything to get there anytime soon?
SEC. PANETTA: The event was over before we could move any assets.
SEN. GRAHAM: It lasted almost eight hours. And my question to you is during that eight-hour period, did the president show any curiosity about how’s this going, what kind of assets do you have helping these people? Did he ever make that phone call?
SEC. PANETTA: Look, there is no question in my mind that the president of the United States was concerned about American lives and, frankly, all of us were concerned about American lives.
SEN. GRAHAM: With all due respect, I don’t believe that’s a credible statement if he never called and asked you, are we helping these people; what’s happening to them? We have a second round, and we’ll take it up then.
Obama needs to be impeached, both for Benghazi and for the Fast and Furious debacle.
Slept in
A week full of going to bed way too late, and waking up way too early, has left me someone run-down. So when I didn't have to set my alarm today, I took full advantage of that and just slept. The Ragin' Mrs. left me alone and let me recoup some of what I'd lost.
I gotta say, I'm feeling pretty darn good right now.
There's something in the air
Maybe it's smog. Maybe it's dust and dirt. I don't know. But driving to where I had to go today, the air was brown, my eyes were itching and my nose kept running. It's frigging nasty.
Had a chance to visit the local ER last night
The Ragin' Mrs. had a mishap - nothing serious, but painful enough to require a doctor to look at it, and she's got a high pain tolerance so when she's telling me that things hurt, it's most likely out of my first-aid capabilities.
Observation one: The ER waiting room was packed, and maybe 50% of those folks spoke any English at all. The native English speakers constituted about 10% of the waiting room.
Observation two: It was Monday night, and the place was packed. The staff said that it had been like that since the New Year. What changed that would make ER traffic pick up and stay up?
Observation three: There were enough sick kids in that place to make me come home, slather myself in sanitizing gel and pour Airborne down my throat. Ugh. Snot and phlegm everywhere.
Observation four: I don't know if this is apropos of anything but the huge amount of people in the ER were Latino, and one thing we did notice was an abundance of fathers actually being fathers. Very few single women in there with their kids alone. If a child was there, most likely their dad was too. That was good to see.
Observation five: Four hours of sleep doesn't do Dave very well at all these days.
