Beyond the headlines

The Strategy Page digs just a little deeper than Jennings and Brokaw:

Looming strategic success in Iraq runs counter to "if it bleeds it leads" headline coverage and commentary from Axis of Neville (Chamberlain) pundits. The headlines aren't false. Parts of Iraq are war zones, where fighting and dying continue. "Disarming" may take years. Saddam's filched billions and hidden weapons caches prop a flickering resistance. "Rearming" Iraq police is going too slowly.

Headlines, however, aren't the full story. Building goes on behind and around the bleeding, and that's the truly big news. Brick by brick creation isn't as sensational as bomb by bomb destruction, but brick by brick amounts to more. It's why in three years, give or take, Iraqis will have their own make-or-break chance to do something truly revolutionary -- run an Arab democracy.

More racism in the NFL

Check this out:

Dolphins linebacker Junior Seau says he meant no harm when he suggested the way to stop former teammate LaDainian Tomlinson is to feed him fried chicken and watermelon.

Asked Wednesday how to limit Tomlinson, San Diego's star running back, Seau told reporters: ''You give him watermelon and load him up with fried chicken and tell him to keep eating.''
Of course, it's black-on-black stereotyping so if you search you'll find little mention of this in cyberspace. Then again, Rush Limbaugh criticized white reporters, largely, but for him, it was racism, because I guess in the end it was a black quarterback who was his target.

It all gets so confusing when you start to try to delve into the minds of the White and Guilty.

I think I'm going to be sick

From the Wall Street Journal article that I found at Dean's World.

The report presents the grim individual stories of 30 defectors interviewed by Mr. Hawk in-depth, and culled from these, to further clarify the customs of the camps, is a long list of the tortures described. "Worst of all," as the report puts it, is a roster of stories detailing the routine murder of babies born to prisoners, as told by eight separate eyewitnesses. One common denominator is that when pregnant women are forcibly repatriated after fleeing to China, it is policy to murder their newborns, because they might have been fathered by Chinese men. One account describes babies tossed on the ground to die, with their mothers forced to watch. In another interview, a former prisoner, a 66-year-old grandmother, identified as "Detainee #24" to protect relatives still perhaps alive in North Korea, describes being assigned to help in the delivery of babies who were thrown immediately into a plastic-lined box to die in bulk lots. The report notes: "The interviewer had difficulty finding words to describe the sadness in this grandmother's eyes and the anguish on her face as she recounted her experience as a midwife at the detention center in South Sinuiju"--one of the sites shown in detail in the accompanying satellite photos.

Oh, but ask the Dimmy Donk Nine what they think of the "Axis of Evil" speech, and see what you get. Kim Jong Ill is a sub-human monster, and there should be no doubt that he will kill as many people as necessary in order to get his bomb. And from there, the murder rate just goes up.
When did the concept of personal and parental responsibility disappear from our lives?
Ladies, gentlemen, and fellow Right Wing Wackos, after "Big Fast Food", we are now seeing the next iteration of "Big Tobacco" - and it is "Big Video Game". Blame video games for violence committed by stupid and reckless teenagers. I keep thinking that one day there is finally going to be a huge backlash against bullshit lawsuits like this. I just can't believe that it hasn't happened yet.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - A $246 million lawsuit was filed against the designer, marketer and a retailer of the video game series "Grand Theft Auto" by the families of two people shot by teenagers apparently inspired by the game.

The suit claims marketer Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc., designers Take-Two Interactive Software and Rockstar Games, and Wal-Mart, are liable for $46 million in compensatory damages and $200 million in punitive damages.

Aaron Hamel, 45, a registered nurse, was killed and Kimberly Bede, 19, of Moneta, Va., was seriously wounded when their cars were hit June 25 by .22-caliber bullets as they passed through the Great Smoky Mountains.

Stepbrothers William Buckner, 16, and Joshua Buckner, 14, of Newport, were sentenced in August to an indefinite term in state custody after pleading guilty in juvenile court to reckless homicide, endangerment and assault.

The boys told investigators they got the rifles from a locked room in their home and decided to randomly shoot at tractor-trailer rigs, just like in the video game "Grand Theft Auto III..."

There's more to it, but I think that you get the picture. We've also got a lady suing Sony because her Everquest-addicted son killed himself. Responsibility is no longer about being responsible for your own actions, and those of your children. It's about blaming a big evil corporation and shaking down whomever has the deepest pockets. Years of anti-individualism and class warfare indoctrination by our public school system and our mainstream media are definitely bearing fruit.
Give me a frigging break!

Do you want to know why more and more people view cries of "RACISM" with a jaundiced eye?

Because of crap like this.

The first "hiring report card" will be posted in October 2004 and grades will be based on:

• contact with the BCA during the hiring process;

• efforts to interview candidates of color;

• number of minorities involved in the hiring process;

• the time frame for each search;

• adherence to institutional affirmative-action policies for hiring.

While no official grades were awarded for the last year, numbers compiled by Michigan professor Keith Harrison indicated there are two schools — Washington and Washington State — that would have received an F.

Would anyone like to take a guess why those two schools would be getting an "F"?

Washington hired Keith Gilbertson, who is white, one day after the fired Rick Neuheisel's appeal process ended in July. Bill Doba, also white, succeeded Mike Price a day after Price left WSU in December.

Gilbertson was the line coach and offensive coordinator at UW, and Doba was the defensive coordinator at WSU. Both of them had coached for years that their respective schools, and both were hired because IT WAS THE BEST THING FOR THE TEAM! Color PLAYED NO PART IN IT! Dear G-d in heaven, how stupid are these people? Did they really expect WSU to go to the team and say "Hey, I know that you just lost your coach, and your QB as well as the Outland Trophy winning linebacker and your top cornerback were all drafted, and you might like some sort of continuity, but Doba's a white boy, so fuck him. We're getting a black coach who you don't know anything about who will change the entire system and quite possibly sink this program until everything gets sorted out. Enjoy!"

I mean gee, UW couldn't have hired Gilbertson because he'd been coaching there for years, knew the players, knew the team as a whole, knew the plays, and could provide some stability after a nasty firing of the previous coach, could they? Nah, they hired him because they wanted to keep the black man down! Yeah, that's gotta be the ticket!

The NAACP and the Black Coaches Association need to get a grip, and get a clue. A good portion of America has the "Boy who cried wolf" syndrome when it comes to charges of racism these days, and asshatted crap like this is exactly the reason why. I mean, what do you say when a coaches group demands job interviews BECAUSE OF THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN??? "Give us job interviews because we're black! Give us jobs because we're black! And if you don't, you're RACIST!"

MLK is rolling in his grave right now, I tell you.

When the countries on either side of you get new management

Iran claims a desire to cooperate.

Sounds like The EUnionists are setting up an opportunity in the future, when it becomes clear to all rational individuals (rather than these gullible appeasers) that Iran is enough of a threat to act, for them to claim that we should stick with their successful (blatant lie) negotiations (with tyrants) rather than doing what is necessary. Always working against the cause of freedom, those assholes are! Time to start keeping a very thorough record of what transpires between the international community and Iran.
I believe the phrase is: "Oh s**t!

The body finds new ways to tell me "GO TO HELL, YOU MORON! You're not a kid anymore!"

So here I am... driving home from work.... when I see two guys pushing a car (up a gentle slope) in my lane. So Dave, who isn't a complete asshole all the time, pulls up behind them, puts the hazard lights on, and checks to see if he can help.

Now then, what would a smart man do?

A) Tell the people to roll the car back into the truck's brushguard, and then push the car with his truck, or
B) Get out, and manually push a god-damned 1960's land yacht up a god-damned hill and wreck his god-damned back in the process?

To every one who said "Dave, you're a dumbass!" get the hell out. I'm in pain and don't need your BS. I guess I'll find out if I can walk tomorrow. In the meantime, much liquid muscle relaxers, by the name of Bombay Sapphire. Crap crap crap crap crap!

Been reading Cold Fury again. I just like that name. Cold Fury. Anyways, I don't read the site because of the name, I read the site for gems like this:

[Hiking up her peasant skirt and squatting in the corner, Jones relieved herself of a high-velocity jet of reeking piss directly onto the floor of the room while saying, “Bush and his cronies are simply incapable of understanding the niceties of civilized behavior, and no amount of Daddy’s Money can make of them anything but what they are: dimestore dictators and boorish, déclassé brigands of the first water.” Daintily lifting her clodhopper boots away from the spreading, steaming puddle, she continued: “They’re despicable, and I wish them all dead! DEAD, I tell you!!”]

Okay, so I made that part up. Onwards:

Oh yeah, he's pissed. And rightly so, thanks to an interview with a dope-addled dope who seems to think that her years of doing any drug available now makes her qualified for political analysis.

Jobs on the rise

Tech job postings on two popular online employment sites have increased sharply, a sign that the long moribund job market may finally be turning around.

Craigslist tech job postings in the San Francisco Bay Area have doubled from a year ago and are up 50 percent from six months ago, said CEO Jim Buckmaster. Activity has particularly picked up in the past four weeks, he said.

A similar picture has emerged at Monster.com, one of the Web's biggest job sites. Overall listings are up 19 percent in the past six months, said founder Jeff Taylor. The increases are centered in such tech job categories as software development (39 percent), call center jobs (36 percent) and engineering (21 percent).

Noting that activity in the San Francisco area often presages shifts in the broader tech marketplace, Taylor said, 'I've spoken to a couple of people in San Francisco in the past 48 or 72 hours, and San Francisco is popping right now. We're being anecdotal here, but in the past four or five weeks, San Francisco has come back to life.' "

Saxby Chambliss has a slam for the "No WMD!" arzehattz.

Pundits and partisan politicos savaged the Bush administration in ways that made me wonder whether they were ignorant not only of the report's contents, but also of the fact Saddam gassed 5,000 Kurdish civilians at Halabja in 1988 and fired missiles at Saudi Arabia and Israel in the first Gulf War. It was as though Saddam didn't have WMD, never had them and never sought to acquire them, which couldn't be further from the truth. This willful ignorance of facts reminded me not of professional journalists investigating a story, but of those members of the Flat Earth Society who still ignore all evidence the Earth is round.

Feeling Good About Iraq

You don't have to feel bad. You can feel good. You just have to hunt down the good stuff.

Not only was the war itself vastly less bloody and difficult than some predicted, but its aftermath has also been quieter. We were told by prewar prognosticators to expect a refugee flood, a food crisis, destruction of the oil fields, and public-health disasters. We were warned that Iraq's multifarious ethnic and religious groups would be at one another's throats. Environmental catastrophes, chemical poisonings, and dam breaks were predicted. It was said Turkey might occupy the north, that Israel could strike from the south, that the Arab "street" was likely to resist.

None of these things happened. Nor have other predicted troubles materialized. When 300,000 mourners gathered for the funeral of assassinated Shiite spiritual leader Bakr al Hakim, they didn't rampage, or call for vengeance against Sunnis, or lash out against the US authorities. They and their leaders showed the political maturity to let the official investigation into the leader's murder proceed.

Whatever the setbacks, we must remember that much of this war has been a case of the dog that didn't bark.
Progress exceeds prognostication in Iraq
"Al Qaeda's Sugar Daddy"

Maybe this is getting old, I dunno. Here goes anyway:

On Jan. 5, 2000, Ahmad Hikmat Shakir an Iraqi airport greeter reportedly dispatched from Baghdads Malaysian embassy escorted Khalid al Midhar and Nawaz al Hamzi to a Kuala Lampur hotel where these two Sept. 11 hijackers met with 9/11 conspirators Ramzi bin al Shibh and Tawfiz al Atash. Five days later, Shakir disappeared. Qatari officials arrested him on Sept. 17, 2001. They discovered papers tying him to the 1993 WTC plot and Operation Bojinka, al-Qaidas 1995 plan to atomize 12 jets over the Pacific.

Finally, Clinton-appointed Manhattan federal judge Harold Baer ordered Hussein to pay $104 million to the families of two 9/11 casualties.

I conclude that plaintiffs have shown, albeit barely...that Iraq provided material support to bin Laden and al Qaeda. An airtight case? No, but sufficient evidence tied Hussein to 9/11 and won a May 7 federal judgment against him.

Dammit, just FIRE THEM!

The teachers in Marysville are finally going back to work thanks to a court injunction, but not without much bitching and moaning.

"Marysville teachers will return to the classrooms and our students," said Elaine Hanson, president of the Marysville Education Association, "but our fight doesn't end tonight." Hanson said the school board membership "has got to go." She said teachers would support opponents for all three school board members, out of five, who are up for re-election Nov. 4.

Now, Ms. Hanson, a pudgy, pasty-faced asexual-looking woman has been just about as nasty as you can be and still get on TV. Just looking at the woman makes me side with the school district.

Teachers will continue to seek "a fair and reasonable contract" through negotiations, Hanson said. No talks have been scheduled right now, she said Monday night.

Fair and reasonable? Let's see here, Ms. Hanson. Right now you have the 9th highest average teacher salary in the state of Washington, at least 10% above the state average. You have a small, rural school district. You've badmouthed the school district and the parents, demanded more money from people who can't afford it, yeah, we've got "fair and resonable" for ya.

Marysville schools also have other problems. The school district's financial controls have been faulted by the state auditor, test scores are underwhelming and voters earlier this year rejected a tax levy to build a new high school.

So these people can't even teach the kids very well, but they want more money? They should be on their knees thanking g-d that they don't get paid by their actuall performance, because then they wouldn't get SQUAT! They would be OWING the school district!

I can't begin to express my disgust at these socialist pricks. They get paid in the top percentile in Washington, yet their kids aren't learning at that rate. They demand more money in the middle of a period of high unemployement, from a school district that is mostly rural, and then go on the longest teacher's strike in history when they're told "We don't have the money". That's the bottom line! The school district is stretched to the breaking point, but these idiotic twits don't care, they want more! These over-paid pampered beurocrats should have been fired long ago, but they're state employees. They don't deserve a pay raise, they deserve to lose their jobs! Maybe if they spent as much time trying to teach kids properly as they do grabbing for their piece of the pie, we wouldn't be facing a generation of graduates who CAN'T FRIGGING READ!!!!!!

Fire them all. They're nothing but a bunch of whiny, over-paid, snot-nosed, worthless, socialists. Those kids could get a better education from the school janitor than from the teachers. At least the janitors showed up last month ready to work.
I feel so dirty.....

I was watching the game last night. Raiders vs. Chiefs. I really don't give a hoot about those two teams, since the Seahawks are out of that division and into the NFC. But, it's standard practice to root against the Raiders, and I am. So I'm drinking a beer and watching the game, just relaxing.

Then Gannon goes down. Hit hard. He's injured. I perk up.

Tui is warming up, and he's coming into the game.

Marques Tuiasasopo was a QB from the University of Washington. A pretty decent guy by all accounts, he was the reason why UW won the Rose Bowl his senior year. Got drafted by the Raiders and spent the past two and a half years riding the bench. Until now.

Suddenly the Raiders are completing passes. Tui's scrambling away from a sack. And I.... I......

I rooted for the Raiders to win.

I feel so dirty.

Damn damn damn damn DAMN!

Kim du Toit is dropping his Daily Rant. He'll still be doing a weekly rant, but the man has a lot on his plate, including working from home and home-schooling his kids, all while writing a novel (or two). Go wish him good luck.

On a happier note, our pals over at Random Nuclear Strikes have been working on a project site called The Bellicose Women's Brigade.

Following the events of September 11th, 2001, University of Tennessee Law Professor Glenn Reynolds coined the phrase "Bellicose Women's Brigade" in an attempt to describe the shift in attitude towards self defense that many of his female readers were experiencing. We have attempted to embrace that change in attitude here at BWB, and strive to provide information on self defense to women who are interested in learning how to protect themselves

Oh yeah. If you're a woman who wants to learn how to shoot a gun and protect yourself, it's well worth the time to go read through the site.

Also from RNS, Analog Kid has the lowdown on the homeless people sob stories. Just to warn you, do NOT go there if you don't want your pre-concieved notions shattered. I deal with homeless people on a daily basis, and I found myself nodding my head and going "Yep, that's it in a nutshell".

BITE ME, you snot-nosed ecoFREAKS!

I was watching the news this morning when a blurb came on that had me screaming.

Remember the Spotted Owl? That sacred bird that shut down 22,000 logging jobs for good? Savior of the old growth forests?

It's becoming extinct. Oops. And it's due to the Barred Owl, not humans.

There is a spin on this story that you wouldn't believe. Of course the eco-freaks are screaming that it's all us evil humans that are killing them off. Heaven forbid that these brainless idiotic fucking walking piles of shit actually take responsibility for their actions and admit they were wrong. I wonder if any of these IQ draining fucktards have actually been to an old growth forest. I will admit, they're beautiful. Big trees. Lots of shade. Lots and LOTS of shade, and pine needles littering the ground. Nothing but trees and their needles.

No undergrowth. Which means no little animals. Which means NO FRIGGING FOOD FOR THE DAMN OWLS!

Maybe if these soul-sucking slack-jawed halfwits had ACTUALLY LISTENED TO PEOPLE WHO KNEW THE FOREST, we wouldn't be dealing with this problem. Maybe if these moronicly incompetant anal-warts had ACTUALLY LISTENED TO THE FORESTERS WHO STUDY THE DAMN FOREST we wouldn't have lost 22,000 frigging jobs as well as the owls themselves. But no, these self-righteous bloviating asshats had to DO SOMETHING to validate their pathetic worthless existance, so they latched on to the damn owls and didn't let go, never ONCE thinking about the cycle of life and death in the forest. Ever heard of a field mouse? Yes? Everyone has. Ever hear about the forest mouse? No? Do you know why? BECAUSE THERE ISN'T ANY DAMN FOOD FOR THE DAMN MICE IN THE DAMN FOREST, THAT'S WHY! THERE ARE NO FOREST MICE! Mice and rabbits and groundhogs and gophers and all the other animals that an owl eats DON'T LIVE IN THE DAMN FOREST! They live in FIELDS and MEADOWS and OPEN AREAS, which have now VANISHED because nobody is allowed to LOG THE DAMN FOREST!

So we've lost jobs, and now we're losing the owls. Gee, thanks you asstastic ECOFREAKS! The owl is dying and it's YOUR DAMN FAULT! But do you accept that? Nooooooooo, we have to keep going down the road which has caused all the damn problems to begin with! GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

"The (Finally) Emerging Republican Majority"

Fred Barnes reports that the country has titlted to the right.
These voting patterns fit Walter Dean Burnham's definition of realignment: "a sudden transformation that turns out to be permanent." Burnham is a University of Texas political scientist, just retired but still the chief theorist of realignment. He is neither a Republican nor a conservative.

The same Republican trend is true for state elections. In 1992, Democrats captured 59 percent of state legislative seats (4,344 to 3,031 for Republicans). Ten years later, Republicans won their first majority (3,684 to 3,626) of state legislators since 1952. In 1992, Democrats controlled the legislatures of 25 states to 8 for Republicans, while the others had split control. Today, Republicans rule 21 legislatures to 16 for Democrats. Governors? Republicans had 18 in 1992, Democrats 30. Today, Republicans hold 27 governorships, Democrats 23.
The (Finally) Emerging Republican Majority
"Men, women, and brains"

A dangerous topic, indeed. Nonetheless:
See, based on radioactive imaging and magnetic imaging, science is able to show that the male and female brain work very differently.

Take listening. One study shows that men listen with only one side of their brain, whereas women use both. With all that interconnectedness going on, it's no wonder women remember everything we said from the moment they met us, whereas we can't remember what were we supposed to pick up at the store.

Another study shows that women can listen to two separate conversations at the same time, whereas men can barely follow one, particularly when it involves feelings or the spring sale at Bed Bath & Beyond.

Smog Happens

USA Today reports that air quality improved during the greed-and-avarice-uber-alles Reagan years, but air quality worsened during the Kyoto-and-caring-uber-alles Clinton years.
The amount of smog over the USA failed to decline during the past decade despite a nationwide effort to improve air quality, statistics from the Environmental Protection Agency show.
Smog levels dropped during the 1980s. But the latest edition of the EPA's annual report on air quality shows that smog levels didn't get better from 1993 through 2002. Independent scientists have drawn similar conclusions.

"It's a bit of a black eye for EPA," says Daniel Jacob, a Harvard University chemist who studies smog. "We were making progress in the '80s, and the progress has halted."

So it shall be!

I recieved an email from someone who had read my rant on the ABC sweatshop blurb. (I won't mention any names) He suggested a term to be used for when shock causes me to snort scotch out my nose, which happens more frequently than I like to admit. Therefore, the act of a shock-induced stream of scotch into my nasal passeges shall now be known as "snotching it".

So it is written, so it shall be!
From the files of "WHAT THE F**K?

You've heard people whining and sniffling about all those people without health insurance, right?

Did you know that almost half of them aren't even American citizens?

One of the primary arguments put forth for socialized medicine in the US is the large numbers of uninsured. However, considering that nearly half of these uninsured aren't even citizens -- as the above graph proves -- I believe that these statistics are misleading. After all, discussions of the uninsured usually imply that they're Americans, not persons here illegally. Most Americans would probably agree that a public healthcare system should cover citizens, not simply anyone who can hop the border.

Check out the graph. It's mindblowing to me that the Socialists want to give healthcare insurance to people who aren't even citizens. Hospitals in Arizona and Texas have already closed due to un-compensated medical care given to illegal immigrants. The Donks need to get several facts through their heads, one of which is SOCIALIZED HEALTH CARE FAILS, just like EVERY OTHER SOCIALIST ENDEAVOR!

Coffee snorting out the nose

RCOB - Red Curtain Of Blood

RCOB. It's Kim-speak. From his website:

(acronym) Red Curtain Of Blood; that horrible thing which falls over my eyes when I read or see something horrible, like a Bill Bastard Clinton interview on TV, or a Molly Ivins column in the newspaper. It strips me of manners and restraint, and fills me with bile so that I spew hatred, break coffee mugs and refer to the 42nd President as an evil fuckface, or similar.

Everyone has their RCOB moments and triggers. Some of us have more of them, (whatcho lookin' at me like that for?) and I had another one today after reading this trash.

I believe the right to keep and bear arms is a fiction. Legal experts I respect have all held that the Second Amendment confers no right of individual gun ownership.

Too bad the Supreme Court of the United States disagress with you, asshole! I can normally read Leonard Pitts without much vitrol. In fact, even though I normally disagree with him, he usually presents logical arguments that make you think and/or re-consider your position in a different light. But that one statement... how the hell can an educated man in America make a statement like that? The Second Amendment does not leave room for interpretation!

"A well-regulated Militia, being necessary for the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

And for those who argue that the "People" are not a militia, let's look at what the Founding Fathers thought, shall we?

Patrick Henry: "I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them."

Alexander Hamilton: "If the representatives of the people betray their constituents, there is no recourse left but in the exertion of the original right of self-defense which is paramount to all forms of positive government."

Thomas Jefferson: "No man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."

John Adams: "Arms in the hands of the citizens may be used at individual discretion for the defense of the country, the overthrow of tyranny or private self-defense."

And last but not least, the government has the very definition of what a militia is!

~~Title 10, Section 311 of the U.S. Code: "The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age..."

So tell me Mr. Pitts, just what the hell is fiction here? Perhaps I've misjudged you, since you seem to think that the Second Amendment is a "fiction". Try to take away my guns and I'll show you some full metal jacketed "facts", in 30-06 size.

The best quote I've found from a modern politician also came from a Kim du Toit essay.

Rep. Suzanna Gratia Hupp of Texas: "How a politician stands on the Second Amendment tells you how he or she views you as an individual... as a trustworthy and productive citizen, or as part of an unruly crowd that needs to be lorded over, controlled, supervised, and taken care of."

Yep.

Side note: I could write a book on why I own guns, and how I feel about gun ownership. But Kim du Toit has done that before I even thought about it. He as fourteen different essays regarding gun ownership, and they sum up my feelings quite nicely.

UPDATE: Found a great quote from a piece at DANEgerous:

"...when law-abiding citizens are forbidden by their government from protecting themselves, they become easy prey for those to whom a gun ban is just one more law to break."
Simplicity

When everything is boiled down, I like to keep things simple. Especially with my firearms. The less parts that a gun has, the fewer parts that can break or malfunction. I'll take a revolver over a semi-auto any day, and I'll take a bolt action over a semi-auto as well.

I spent Thursday and Friday looking for my birthday gun. There were plenty that were newer, or in a bit better condition, but they were semi-autos. Nope. I've spent enough time tearing apart semi-autos or full autos (the latter when I was in the Army) that I know I don't want to deal with that hassle. When it comes to cleaning my guns, I joke that I have OCD. My girlfriend says it's not a joke. I'll spend half an hour with a pipe cleaner digging into some small crevice because everytime I stick the cleaner in, it comes out dirty. Drives me nuts. I'm not a clean-freak by any means, as anyone who's visited my house can tell you. But putting a gun away dirty? You might as well ask me to stop breathing, because it ain't happening. I'll be scraping away with a dental pick because I'm still pulling enough dirt out of the chamber to grow a garden. I can hear my old drill seargent's voice: "What the f**k is this, private? You planning on growing flowers in that damn thing?"

Which brings me back to one reason why I like a good bolt-action rifle. A bolt-action is beautiful in it's simplicity. I can take it apart in seconds flat. You have four main areas to clean: bore, chamber, bolt, and magazine. The magazine is a quick inspection and wipe-down. I'll take it apart a few times a year for a closer inspection and cleaning, but it's not my main focus. The bolt takes more time, because I refuse to break it down, so I spend a lot of time with pipe cleaners digging and pulling out carbon and crud. Once it's clean, it gets lubed and set aside. The bore gets two passes with the bore brush to break up the crud, and then lots of patches and solvent until they come out clean. The chamber takes more time, because there are more areas that catch and hold the carbon. Lots of pipe cleaners and patches, and of course, solvent. Once everything is clean, it gets lubed and re-assembled. Last I check out the stock and barrel surface, wipe it clean, and then rub it down with a silicone cloth to prevent corrosion.

All in all, it's about a half-hour to an hour, depending on how dirty the gun is. Most people see me cleaning and say "Geez man, get a grip!" I have a grip, people, and it's very nice and clean. I've heard people say "Well, a .22 shoots better when it's a little dirty." Yep, and they corrode very nicely that way too. I can show you the corrosion that can occur when you don't clean them properly. I expect to leave my guns in my will when I die at a ripe old age. The person who gets them will find them clean, workable, and ready to fire.

There are several aspects of a semi-auto that beat out a bolt action, of course, I haven't seen to many bolt-action rifles with high capacity magazines. And let's face it, if the fit hits the shan, a fifteen round clip and a fast rate of fire is preferable to "shoot, work the bolt, shoot, work the bolt", ect. I have a pump-action 12 guage for home defense and bird hunting. I plan on having several semi-autos in my armory when I can afford them. But in terms of shooting enjoyment, just give me a good old bolt action rifle. Simple as that.

I'll post a range report as soon as I can get my target on the scanner. Let me just say this for now: It's an older gun, with all the quirks that go with age, but it's still as accurate as the day it came off the line. Any problems the gun had was from the ammo, or Operator Headspace and Timing.

UPDATE: Here ya go, as promised. This was standing, unsupported, at 45 feet.

Not bad for an old guy with an old gun, eh? I guess all those years in the Army taught me something.

Bush Blamed For Middle East Bloodshed

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Lieberman was heckled Friday by several Arab Americans angry with his support for Israel as he spoke about restoring peace and trust in the Middle East.

"What about the wall?" shouted several attending the Arab American Institute leadership conference as they interrupted Lieberman's speech. The reference was to Israel's plan to build a barrier that juts into the West Bank.
.
.
.
Lieberman blamed the lack of progress toward peace between Israelis and Palestinians on the failures of the Bush administration. He received applause for some of his comments, including his calls for tolerance and unity.
That frickin' Bush. He's out fundraising when he could be saving the Middle East from itself.
This guy sounds like me!

Check it out, but make sure you're not drinking anything when you watch it.
Oh my head...

The girlfriend, that wonderful woman, threw me a suprise birthday party last night. My birthday isn't until Monday, but last night was when people could come over and drink. So it happened. I haven't drank that much in quite a while, and needless to say, I'm still feeling it this morning. So I'm sitting here with my bloodshot eyes and the industrial strength coffee thinking of what to say.

Did I mention my birthday present? A Marlin bolt-action .22 rifle. I've been wanting one for the range, and now I have one. She's a beauty. Times like this I wish I had a cheap digital camera so that I could gloat and show off my goodies. Bah! Why waste money on a digital camera when I could buy ammo!

Side tangent: Ammo Day is November 19th! 100 rounds or more! It's a BUYcott!

So anyways, the girlfriend, that wonderfull woman, cooked up beef stroganoff for dinner, followed by a desert that is best described as a mix between mud pie and Baked Alaska. Heaven. Pure heaven. Chocolate galore. Couple that with an Arturo Fuente and a bottle of scotch, and it was a VERY good night. My friend Ari decided that instead of lighting a Buick on fire (a reference to the number of candles on my birthday cake, Ari?), he would just get me beer. Not as eyecatching, but it kept him out of jail. There was much fun had, much alcohol drank, and much food consumed. I'll let you know how the rifle performs at the range, since I plan to head there this afternoon. Right after I down the rest of the coffee and take a shower.

See ya tomorrow.

More linky love....

Because there is a lot out there that I think people should see.

Lee at Right Thinking brings us the story of another socialized health care success story.

A GRAN made fake blood with crumbled biscuits and cranberry juice to trick her way into hospital for an operation.

Trizka Litton, 62, had waited in agony for seven months for surgery to cure a hernia

She told ambulancemen she had vomited blood and was taken to Walgrave Hospital, Coventry.

Trizka threw away the blood in a trash bin before it could be tested.

But after she was examined she was given a bed — and taken into theatre the following day for an emergency op.

Trizka, 62 — now fully recovered — said: “I carried a heavy burden of guilt and shame at being forced to cheat and lie.

“But it vanished when doctors told me just how near death I had been.
.

Scary stuff. And this is what the Donks want to put into place in this country.

Dean Esmay has the goods on the Denial Of Service (DOS) attack that hit Hosting Matters, home to Instapundit. It's amazing that when the right disagrees with someone, we argue and try to prove them wrong. When the Left disagrees with someone, they try to shut them up. Who wants free speech again?

A guest commenter at NRO says that there has been a massive shift in Canadian politics that has gone un-noticed by the USA. One that could be very beneficial to Conservatives in both countries. All NRO pieces are good fountains of information, especially Victor David Hanson and Larry Kudlow. I could learn more by reading those two than by going to the local university.

Townhall.com has the Top Ten Myths about Canadian Healthcare, as well as an interesting round-up by John McCaislin that includes flu shots, handshakes, and commentary from Dr. Bob Arnot.

Dr. Arnot said contrary to reports, U.S. military morale remains very high in Iraq, adding that the majority of Iraqi citizens he interviewed are happy to be rid of Saddam Hussein. His views reflect a recent Gallup poll finding that nearly two-thirds (62 percent) of Baghdad's 6.3 million citizens think ousting Saddam "was worth any hardships they have personally endured since the invasion."

And last but certainly not least, Brain Terminal has an aborted video of a "palestinian" solidarity rally.

Even before the first speaker addressed the rally, people walked among the attendees, once again pointing us out as "Zionists". One protester came up to the camera and started blocking it with his sign. When I moved the camera several feet away, and the protester followed and again obstructed the view. I moved again, and he followed again. I tried raising the camera above the sign, but he just raised his sign.
....
Alexis and Tim also had cameras and were able to snap some stills and shoot few seconds of video. But they, too, were set upon by protesters. When they tried to use their cameras, protesters would put signs in the way. They dodged and weaved like basketball players, but at each turn, they were stopped. One protester with a masked face lunged at Alexis, threatening to break her camera and telling her, "I'm gonna kick your fucking ass." She was also hit by signs.

A slow day for me

At least online. Time to clean house, do chores, and all the things I don't get to while I'm working. I also have a birthday party to go to tonight. So, I'll be out of the house for quite a bit. No, it's not my party either. That one is on Monday.

So, I'll leave youi with yet another nag.

Don't forget, 100 rounds!
Religion of Peace Update...

"Jews rule the world by proxy", says Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.
Oh Goody. Do we really need more laws to protect people from their own stupidity?

Will someone please tell me where the Gestapo-like desire to stamp out hazing comes from? The Michigan legislature is considering such a law. Hazing is voluntary, on the part of both the hazer and the hazee. Hazing is an exercise of free will, even in its most degrading and stupidest forms. Young men and women who don't want to be a part of fraternities and sororities can simply avoid it. If you don't like drinking until you puke or being deprived of sleep, then don't join an organization that practices hazing. Period. It's not too goddamn hard.

Let me also point out, having been a member of the Greek system at Michigan, that "hazing" encompasses extremely innocuous forms of behavior too, like wearing a pledge pin or eating Jalepeno peppers. Basically any newbie in an organization who has his feelings hurt can claim "hazing" in some way, shape or form. The freshman on the local high schol football team who gets a wedgie in the locker room can claim "hazing". I expect that this law will pass, and when it does, it will be widely abused.

OK, NOW can we nuke them?

Follow with me here, OK? You're the United States of America's State Department. With me so far? Good. You deal with other nations on a daily basis. You're supposed to have at least a basic knowledge of other countries and where they are on the map, right? Right.

So how in the name of all that is holy do you explain this????

Notice anything missing? Like, maybe, WHERE THE F(*&^ IS ISRAEL ON THAT MAP?! Let's check here... Syria, Yep. Lebanon, yep. Egypt, yep. Sudan, Oman, Yemen, U.A.E., yep yep yep yep. Lebanon, yep. They've even taken the time to draw in the "palestinian" territories. How nice.

Is this deliberate? Who knows? But after showing themselves to be nothing but despot loving, terrorist aiding bootlickers, I wouldn't put anything past the State Department. How long did it take for Foggy Bottom to remove "Visa Express", which allowed many of the September 11th hijackers entrance to this country? I have no doubt that many in the State Department would drop to their knees and perform fellatio on Arafat if they thought it would make that terrorist happy. Is that harsh? Maybe, but it would be the most likely reason for the sheer incompetance that we see coming out of State. I'm trying to be nice and not accuse them of corruption and treason, although that might be true as well.

Anyone want to drop them a note?

Thanks to Winds of Change for bringing this to my attention.
A good explination

Of why there are so many "Clinton haters" out there. As usual, all emphasis is mine.

Let me try to explain this in a way the Clinton-lovers might understand. In 1992, I voted for Mr. Clinton. I even persuaded my more conservative parents to do so as well. My arguments were, first, that Mr. Clinton was good for Israel; second, that he represented a sane version of the Democratic Party; third, that George Bush didn't deserve to be re-elected; and fourth, that Mr. Clinton was the man who talked about "the high cost of remaining silent and paralyzed in the face of genocide."

This last item was especially important to me. Like so many young people at the time, Bosnia was one of those things I cared about, at least in the way one "cares" about political things as a young man. It shamed me somewhat that the first Bush administration treated Balkan concentration camps as if they were none of America's concern. I wanted a president like Truman, a man who acted on humane instinct when his heartstrings were pulled.

That's not how it turned out. Mr. Clinton's policy on the Balkans was indistinguishable from his predecessor's.

I don't think this last part can be emphasised enough. People like to blame Perot for Bush Sr.'s losing the election. There was also this little fact that Bush Sr. had pissed of his support to the point that many people wanted to vote for a conservative who WASN'T Bush. Bush's tax raise, his abandonment of Iraq in '91 allowing the UN to take over, all contributed to him losing enough support that he lost re-election.

But Mr. Clinton was a New Kind Of Democrat. Unlike the first President Bush, he would not pay the "high cost of remaining silent and paralyzed in the face of genocide." Not only did he promise the most ethical White House in history, he was also going to pursue the most ethical foreign policy. These were pledges that, in 1992, won over political centrists like me.

But that's not what happened. And it didn't happen because there never was a "President Clinton." There were, instead, two incarnations of Candidate Clinton: first the challenger, then the incumbent. In both cases, no such thing as "policy" could be said to exist; Mr. Clinton moved where political convenience dictated. Among other consequences (not all of which were bad), one is the mass graveyard of Srebrenica, which Mr. Clinton, with truly mind-boggling shamelessness, now employs for rhetorical effects.

The late Jim McDougal, a partner of the Clintons in the Whitewater real-estate deal, once observed that Bill and Hillary were "like tornadoes moving through people's lives." Maybe in Arkansas that was no big deal. In Bosnia it was.

Time for some more Linky-Love!

We'll start of with Obnoxious Fumes, who reminds us that Victor Davis Hanson has another great piece out on NRO. Here's a taste...

French newspapers may blare, "The slowly rotting situation in Iraq, the Mideast and Afghanistan has destroyed the myth American omnipotence," but they don't tell us how removing the Taliban and Saddam Hussein is worse than selling weapons to them — or why and how France lost 30 times more of its own citizens to heat in a month than we lost soldiers in battle in two years. Apparently French apartments are far more deadly places than the Pakistani border or the Sunni Triangle.

Why yes, that is the sound of a bitch-slap being laid down! Cold Fury brings us a wonderful piece of writing from the Sharp Knife.

Ours is a time when "a real and generous love of our country" is fashionably mocked or at the least, held suspect. America's interests have been sold out for money or ideology at even the highest levels. The very idea of citizenship is constantly being demeaned, degraded & defined downward. Allegedly sane people think nothing of giving over our defense policy to the tender mercies of trans-national Ghanian technocrats, Syrian Ba'ath Party stooges and French diplo-whores.

One can't help but compare Mr. Forten's demeanor to those of certain other personnel, who, like Mr. Forten, volunteered for service in a very different America. Unlike Forten, they actually hoped to be sent to the West Indies...specifically Guantanamo. Not as POWs--but to conspire with the enemy held there. As spies for a medieval death-cult, these 'translators'...even a so-called 'chaplain', betrayed the country to which their lying tongues swore a meaningless oath. These snakes deserve the rope...and nothing less.

For those who don't know, three Americans were killed in Gaza yesterday.

The U.S. State Department said the three dead men were security personnel accompanying diplomats from the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv, who were heading to interview Palestinian candidates for Fulbright scholarships at the education ministry. The Palestinian driver of the vehicle also was wounded.

Let there be no further doubt. The animals known as "palestinians" do not deserve anything but death. There will be no debate from me on this topic. Arafat and the rest of the monsters should be carpet bombed from the face of the earth. Israel has shown too much restraint, and they would be fully in their rights to wage complete and utter war on the animals known as palestinians the next time a bus blows up. The West Bank and Gaza should be nothing but scortched earth, a reminder that anyone who chooses to send children with bombs wrapped around them to kill your enemies do not deserve to be treated with any kind of human compassion.

Scortched earth. Blackened craters where Arafat and his murdering cronies once held court. Nothing left but ashes. If you don't like that, then maybe you should suggest to Arafat that blowing up busses and pizza joints filled with kids and grandmothers isn't the way to go about convincing your enemies, hmmmm?

Sorry that this is so long, but there are so many good essays today that it's hard to pick and choose them. Thomas Sowell has an excellent piece on Donk hypocricy and vouchers. Michelle Malkin has a piece on Media Bias and Donk hypocricy (hmmmmm, a common theme! Who woulda thunk it?) For those who don't know, I'm hot for Michelle Malkin. Good looks, logical, smart as a whip, and oh so pleasantly ruthless. She's the kind of woman who would hand you your ass on a platter with a smile and a "Oh I'm sorry, let me hand this back to you". Just awsome.

Brent Bozell points out how ruthless the liberals really are, giving lie to their claims of "compassion" Mike Adams writes about (duh!) liberal hypocricy, this time focusing on the 1st Amendment. Rich Lowery writes about a personal experience with Stuart Smally Al Frankin. Frankin writes about lies and lying because that's what he does best. In fact, lying is about all Frankin can really do.

That should be enough to keep you busy for an hour or two. Enjoy!

Gun fearing idiots control advocates are upset because gun-control doesn't seem to be a hot topic anymore. As usual, all emphasis is mine.

“The modus operandi of the gun lobby is to keep the discussion down,” said Eric Howard, spokesman for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Handgun Violence (search).

But supporters of gun rights (search) say pro-gun control Democrats have learned the hard way that a majority of Americans think current laws are strict enough.

Oh, and that little study by the CDC that said "there is insufficient evidence that gun contro lowers crime" might have some play as well.

Much to the chagrin of gun control lobbyists on Capitol Hill and in state legislatures, current politics have not played well in their favor. They cite support by Democrats of a bill that would render gun manufacturers immune to lawsuits -- a cornerstone of their efforts to impose non-legislative controls on the gun industry in the last few years.

Can't get the laws passed? Screw the laws! Screw the people! We know what's right and we're taking it to the COURTS!

"The only thing that will set the industry straight is with lawsuits,” Howard said. The Brady Campaign has argued that the bill -- which has already passed in the House -- would protect dealers like Bulls Eye Shooter Supply (search), which claimed it lost the Bushmaster (search) allegedly used last year by Washington, D.C.-area sniper defendants John Allen Muhammad (search) and Lee Boyd Malvo (search).

Of course, the fact that Bulls Eye Shooter Supply had over 300 guns missing might lead some people to deduce that the owner of said store is corrupt. 300 guns, people. Now let's see what that amounts to in dollars, shall we? Let's say that each gun cost $300. Those of us who buy guns know that $300 is a very small amount. Most guns average between $400-$600. But $300 is a low-end pistol. Now then, over three hundred guns missing, at AT LEAST $300 a pop equals AT LEAST $90,000 worth of missing inventory. Name me ONE FRIGGING BUSINESS OWNER that completly overlooks $90,000 worth of missing stock! Unless you're completely incompetant, you don't. So this owner is either incompetant, or corrupt. In either case he shouldn't be selling guns. A lawsuit against him isn't going to do a damn thing. He need to actually GO TO JAIL! Ya know, like, enforce the damn laws we have now!

The reason that gun-control isn't a big issue is because people are starting to find that the gun grabbing nazi's control arguments are as full of shit as the politicians who promote them.

Monday, Monday

Altough this would really be my Wednesday, since I worked through the weekend. Meh. Who cares, my work weeks are all screwy anyways.

So, what's new for today? Well, besides Tim's prolific postings (which you DID go read, right? Right?) we have another good den Beste post. As usual, he takes the subject and nails it to the wall, the subject in this case being the cheese eating surrender money French ambassador saying that the US and France should "work together".

Work together means that the US should forget everything that France has said and done over the last two years, forget that it is the publicly avowed policy of the French political class to try to limit American power and influence, and to once again embrace the French as friends and allies.

Work together means that the French have no real power to force us to do anything, and thus can only manipulate us if we're naive and trusting. As long as we're suspicious, they no longer have any ability to shaft us, and they'd like us to drop our defenses so they can shaft us again.

And sending a powerful political message of empowerment to the Iraqi people means making sure that democracy fails there so that America gets no benefit from invading, even indirectly.

Now, anyone who knows me also knows that I think France should be bombed flat and turned into a parking lot/amusement park for our true allies, the British. Not only would the Brits enjoy all that Mediteranian coastline, it would prevent France from becoming the first EUnich country to fall under shari'a law. But SDB is correct in that by engaging in "Fruitfull Dialogue" with the French, we end up losing something. In order for dialogue to be fruitfull in the first place, both sides have to bring SOMETHING to the table. France has nothing. France has less than nothing. France is a one hundred pound lead weight tied around the neck of humanity, the embodiment of everything nasty, vile, foul, and corrupt in the Human Race. There's never been a Marxist dream too large or a tyrannical dictator too corrupt for France to swap spit with. We shouldn't be talking to France, unless our side of the conversation includes "Shut the hell up Chiraq, or we'll turn the 'City of Lights' into the 'City that kinda glows alot', if you know what I'm saying". "Fruitfull Dialogue" with France is the very thing we should be AVOIDING.

France has already announced it's intentions loud and clear. They want to be the counter to us, the USA. They want to be the next great superpower, to counter our influence. Go read some of Chiraq's ramblings about what he wants the EU to be. Not what he wants France to be, but what he wants the EU to be. What HE wants. This man's arrogance knows no bounds.

More from SDB: Which is why the 1980 election was a pure demonstration of exactly the attitude in America that the Europeans dislike most, as proved by the outcome: in 1980 we replaced Carter with Ronald Reagan.

But somehow they still think that it's all temporary, something we'll outgrow. All the calls for "healing", for "new cooperation", for "working together", really mean only this: "Have you come to realize just how unwise and wrong-headed you've been? Are you ready to start listening to us yet?"

"Healing" means America stops doing things the Europeans don't like. "New cooperation" means that America cooperates with Europe, not the other way around. "Working together" means American surrender.

Clinton, Carter, hell just about any Donk will be a whore for the EUnich glitterati, the European elite, because they have the same attitudes. "We know best. We're the ones who should make the decisions, not you." Hell, Billy Boy Clinton couldn't have whored himself any more for the EUnichs. Maybe that's part of the reason Algore lost.

Too many of Europe's leaders still live in a retro-fantasy that Europe can somehow once again dominate the world, as it did in the golden years of the 16th through 19th centuries. So they agree to grandiose plans to make Europe the most competitive economy in the world in just ten years (3 of which have already elapsed), while their economies are going into the toilet and are holding back the rest of the world. They promise to build up militarily but contemplate cuts in defense spending. They praise themselves for their clout, ignoring how little clout they actually have. They strut and bluster and preen, offer unsolicited advice to others, get angry and resentful when their advice is ignored, and take great pleasure and satisfaction from those few cases when they've been able to say, "I told you so!"

EUnichistan can't stand the fact that they're now backseat drivers in the world's highways. As I saw on one blog (the comments from Silent Running) "The world wouldn't worry so much what the US did or did not do if they would grow some balls and make some decisions themselves." Europe needs to decide just what they're doing, because so far their socialist ponzi schemes and suffocating government have made them insignificant on the world's stage.

And let's face it, Europe's stance on us isn't very favorable. Blackfive found a free-lance reporter from Paris who writes about Europe's distain for Americans.

One of my favorite quotes from the article comes from Jordi Carreno, a Spanish architect, when he was asked what he would like to see in a new president in 2005.

“A little bit of humility and cooperation in those items that the rest of the world cares about like global warming, globalization, and responsibility toward the U.N.”

And I like Blackfive's response to that:

Responsibility toward the U.N.? What about responsibility of the UN to follow through on its own resolutions?

What you want is our humility to kiss Europe’s arrogant ass. No thanks, I am not signing up for that. You can keep hating me and my president…

While I wait to see if Eunichistan is going to continue swirling the toilet or finally get flushed, I'll keep going with my supposed arrogance. At least we as a country can back up what we say. EUnichistan, on the other hand, kowtows to an un-elected group of thugs who were proud to put countries who A) shoot dissidents (Cuba) B) force abortion on women (China), and C) allow slavery (Sudan) in charge of their "Human Rights Committee", with another un-elected terrorist (Libya) as it's chairman. Bravo. Let's not forget that the UN was also going to put a country who had violated 17 different UN resolutions demanding disarmament over 12 years in charge of it's Disarmament Chair. Bravo again.

I'll take American Arrogance over EUnich slavery anyday.

Yeah, I'm PISSED!

Warning: Strong language and much cussing in this post.

Why, you ask? Well, I was reading Serenity's Journal (the webpage, not an actual diary, you dirty-minded sop!) when I found this little article.

A project by Seattle city officials to house chronic alcoholics in a 75-unit apartment building where they can drink together has been approved by the Washington state Court of Appeals.

The $8.6 million project near downtown Seattle will offer tenants meals and support services in an attempt to provide enough stability to allow them to attend treatment programs, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported.

Ah, yes. The city's in a financial crisis, the state's in a financial crisis, unemployment is still ungodly high in this part of the country, fire departments are struggling to keep their trucks in service, police and fire pensions are in danger of being cut back.... by all means lets FUCKING WASTE 8.6 MILLION FUCKING TAX-PAYER DOLLARS SO THAT SOME FUCKING WORTHLESS PIECE OF SHIT DRUNK CAN SIT IN A FUCKING TAX-PAYER FUNDED ROOM AND DRINK HIS FUCKING BOOZE! WHAT A GREAT FUCKING IDEA!

Wait, wait, I have an even BETTER IDEA! Lets buy them free booze! And maybe we can furnish tax-payer funded heroin for them too! Why don't we spend those tax-payer dollars for whores like the Seattle city council to go and suck some tax-payer funded drunken bum dick! What a wonderfull way to prove that you are nothing more than ANOTHER FUCKING DIPSHIT DEMOCRAT WASTING MY FUCKING MONEY!

It's a good thing that I'm not near any of those idiotic pieces of shit, or I'd be in jail for murder. But I bet I could get away with justifiable homicide. Serenity used to live here, and she just recently escaped. I dream of the day when I can do the same. I will stop on the Seattle City limits and take a steaming shit right before I leave this god-forsaken hell hole. The world would be better off if this city just disappeared into a sinkhole and slid strait to hell. 8.6 MILLION FUCKING DOLLARS so that a bunch of drunks can drink and shit themselves and puke in comfort. What a great idea. Fucking idiots. Brainless, moronic, good-for-nothing, asshats who shouldn't be in charge of wiping their own ass, much less a god-damned city.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
And By The Way

Just for those who STILL refuse to see....

Want a little taste? Ok.

"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."
Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998.

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seing and developing weapons of mass destruction."
Sen. Ted Kennedy
(D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002.

"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..."
Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002.

"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force — if necessary — to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security."
Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002.

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."
Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

Bite me, Donks! You lying, slimy hypocritical sacks of shit!
For those who choose to be blind

Let me open your eyes for you.

Iraq repeatedly made false declarations about the weapons that it had left in its possession after the Gulf War. When UNSCOM would then uncover evidence that gave the lie to those declarations, Iraq would simply amend the reports. For example, Iraq revised its nuclear declarations four times within just 14 months, and it has submitted six different biological warfare declarations, each of which has been rejected by UNSCOM.
In 1995 Hussein Kamal, Saddam's son-in-law and the chief organizer of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program, defected to Jordan. He revealed that Iraq was continuing to conceal weapons and missiles and the capacity to build many more. Then and only then did Iraq admit to developing numbers of weapons in significant quantities--and weapons stocks. Previously it had vehemently denied the very thing it just simply admitted once Saddam's son-in-law defected to Jordan and told the truth.

Now listen to this: What did it admit? It admitted, among other things, an offensive biological warfare capability, notably, 5,000 gallons of botulinum, which causes botulism; 2,000 gallons of anthrax; 25 biological-filled Scud warheads; and 157 aerial bombs. And I might say UNSCOM inspectors believe that Iraq has actually greatly understated its production. . . .

One of the greatest pieces about why we went to war I've seen so far. To everyone asking where the WMD are, I say this: Show me when and where Saddam disposed of the arsenal that he admitted to having. And then I will agree that there are no WMD. But if you can't do that, then shut the hell up. You were wrong before, and you're wrong now.

Even MORE tolerance from the Left!

From Fox News

At Gonzaga University, it's hate speech to use the word "hate" in a flyer. At least, it is if you're Young Americans for Freedom members promoting a speech by Daniel Flynn, author of "Why the Left Hates America."

Let's just look at that statement for a while, shall we? Young Americans for Freedom try to get a speaker. Speaker has a book called "Why the Left Hates America". Members of the Left protest the word "hate" and call it "hate speech", in order to get the flyers promoting said speaker removed.

Who really wants free speech, anyways? Every time I turn around, someone from the Left is trying to muzzle a person they disagree with. So much for that 1st Amendment. I guess it's OK to call Bush a Nazi and compare him to Hitler if you're a leftist drone, but no dissent will be tolerated from the Right!

I feel a chill wind..... and it's blowing from the Left.
More liberal "Tolerance"

You've heard it all before. "DISSENT SQUASHER! THEY'RE VIOLATING MY FREE SPEECH! SPEECH NAZIS! FACISTS!" The typical screams heard from the liberals whenever their words are questioned. Of course, then you read this:

We've had stacks of our papers thrown away, our flyers ripped down, you name it," says Emily Katz, the ever-smiling editor-in-chief of Washington University's other paper, the Washington Witness.

What? Papers stolen? Property vandalized? CALL THE POLICE, THOSE DAMN CONSERVATIVES ARE AT IT AGAIN!

What? Who? Oooooh... nevermind, the theft and property damage is by the liberals! Never mind, keep moving, nothing to see here... if only those damn conservatives would just shut up and do as their told, everything would be A-OK, right?

Take a note, folks. See if you can find a story about conservatives stealing papers or destroyin the property of a liberal rag. Then find the stories of liberals destroying a conservative rag. Hell, it happens in Berkeley on a weekly basis.

Ya smell that? MmHmmmm, that's HYPOCRISY! A liberal staple. Hat tip to Curmudgeonly and Skeptical.
It's true

What's true? This quote:

Decades ago, the environmentalists adopted a bird as their symbol -- the condor. The hunters got a bird too -- the wild turkey. When the environmentalists adopted the condor, there were a couple dozen left in existence. And today, there are still a couple dozen. When the hunters adopted the wild turkey, there were a couple thousand. Now there are more than 20 million wild turkeys in North America. Today, we kill more wild turkey each year in Michigan alone during the legal hunting season than there were in existence in the 20s and 30s. And that's with regulations to harvest just the surplus!

Yep. Ted Nugent. He's got an interview in Salon.com, and if you can get past the interviewer's smarmy opening (the condesention is so thick it's dripping) he's got more good quotes than almost anyone else. He also brings up the point that most of the true conservation being done in this country is being done by the hunters organizations.

And not only to safeguard it, but to rehabilitate already destroyed habitat. The Rocky Mountain Elks Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, Federation of North American Wild Sheep, Pheasants Forever, Quail Unlimited, Trout Unlimited. I could show you billions of dollars, just in the waterfowl organizations, all of which are hunters, which have completely rehabilitated the prairie waterfowl breeding grounds of the Canadian provinces. We did that; the hunters did that. The anti-hunters haven't bought one cattail! They haven't saved a blade of grass! They have way more money than we do, and all they do is create a literature of propaganda with ugly bitches who say they'd rather be naked than wear a fur coat! I'd rather cover them with poop -- whatever it takes, cover those bitches up!

Yep. Hat tips to Acidman and Lobowalk.
Don't forget

November 19th is coming up. What is it? It's NATIONAL AMMO DAY! Buy 100 rounds or more. Go to the website, www.ammoday.com and find out what you can do. This is a cheap and easy way to show that gun owners ARE a political force. Buy some ammo for a friend, if you want to. Hell, buy ammo for me! I can always put some 30-06 rounds to good use!

Ammo Day. November 19th. It's a BUYcott.
I couldn't believe my eyes

The girlfriend and I were watching the news last night. She had the TV on to ABC's 20/20, where Baba Wawa was interviewing Courtny Cox and David whats-his-name. Arquet, Arkett, something like that. Anyways, I was tuning it out, because I really don't give two hoots and a hollar about whether or not they try invetro fertilization to have a kid. Seriously, the things that pass for news these days sometimes makes me scratch my head. So I was doing some leatherwork, sipping a scotch on the rocks, and basicly winding down the day.

Untill the last ten minutes of the program, when John Stossel came on and did a small blurb on sweatshops. (It's a three web-page piece, BTW)

The students object to what they call sweatshops. They say companies are exploiting poor people, by setting up factories in developing countries and paying workers a fraction of American workers' wages.

Now, I look up and see the usual pictures of college kids marching and chanting and waving flags. Blah, I was about to change the channel when John Stossel said something that made me snort scotch out my nose. As usual, all emphasis is mine.

Arunga and DeBroy point out that in poor countries, the Nike factories that rich American students call sweatshops routinely pay twice what local factories pay, and more than triple what people earn doing much harder and more dangerous work in the fields. Arunga says people in Kenya would volunteer to work in sweatshops for free, just to have access to clean running water and electricity without carrying firewood. "I wish we would have more sweatshops, quote unquote, in my country," Arunga told me. Most economists agree that "sweatshops" are what allowed people in now-thriving places like South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore to work their way out of poverty.

I'm sorry, but did ABC just say that? Economists and Conservatives have been making that argument for a while now, but did ABC JUST ACTUALLY AGREE?

Arunga said, "People get jobs in these places, their generation lives better than their parents lived. Most of them work for these companies for a while, go off and start their own businesses, it's a win-win situation for everyone," she said.

And that, she says, is why the students who protest are ignorant and clueless.

At this point, I'm checking the TV and the remote, because I can't believe that ABC just allowed someone to call college protesters ignorant and clueless. There's no way. This is reading like one of my rants.

"They're comparing that to what they have in their rich homes," she said, "They're people who are very wealthy. They have no idea what they're talking about."

Jaw on floor. Scotch dribbling on living room table. Girlfriend wiping drool from chin. This is actually on ABC. And when Stossel interviews the students, they show themselves to be idiotic buffoons.

"The image that we have as being rich and clueless and just idealist college students is a false one," said Mandie Yanasak.

"Do I have a vision of how I want the world to be? Sure. Of course I do. I want the world to be one where people don't have to struggle to feed their children," she said.

Lindsay-Marisol Enyart, another student, said, "We're talking about workers who don't have a choice and are forced to leave their home farms."

Stossel asked them "Who's forcing them? They aren't being chained and dragged into the factory."

The girls stuttered and mumbled something about "We're not trying to close sweatshops, we just want to change them" and Stossel hammered them. The end of the piece was the kicker.

But Bibek DeBroy said if these students get their way, it won't help people in the developing world. "It would mean fewer jobs, lower incomes, more people in poverty," he said. Arunga agreed, saying, "By passing laws trying to improve the jobs by force, they will get rid of the jobs."

After the protests against Kathie Lee's clothing line, Wal-Mart withdrew its contract from one of the "sweatshops." American complaints about child labor persuaded factories in Bangladesh to stop hiring adolescents. The result, according to UNICEF, is many of the young girls turned to prostitution.

This helps poor people?

Give Me a Break

Oh. My. God. Someone finally listened. After years and years of conservatives and economists and people from the very countries involved speaking and pleading, someone finally listened. I'm still in shock. ABC put the news out.

A good essay

By Dave Kopel, about the history of gun ownership in America.

I'm reminded of a quote. An armed man is a citizen. An un-armed man is a subject.
