The people threatening war have not practiced it, and they must think the other side will cave as easily as they would, so the mere threat is enough, or after a few blows they will prevail. Those who threaten war have no idea what they will get once they kick the lid off of hell.
"Cathartic" will be an inadequate description. I know a few people who get up early just to see if it's started yet, and some of them have travel plans to follow the hot spots like rock band groupies. They're so ready for it, wouldn't surprise me to find catering has been arranged.
