...isn't it odd that Democrats manage to muster the votes required to block Charles Pickering and block malpractice insurance, but they couldn't find enough to stop President Bush from unilaterally attacking Iraq or running up record deficits?

I mean, where are their priorities???

As an aside, if you read the story linked above, you'll find this Golden Nugget from Reuters:

"Bush is running for re-election this year."

I think it is supposed to explain why Bush is concerned with doctors when there are more pockets at Halliburton to be lined.
