He's a nice old dog; seems friendly, walks on a leash just fine, not starving so he's at least been taken care of recently. She's online right now trying to find a "Lost Dog" website. I'm figuring that we'll just call animal control tomorrow.
He didn't have a collar or a tag on him. If he'd had a tag, we could have just called the owner. Keep your ID on your dogs, folks. Sad to see a good old dog like that limping around on a road and nobody has a way to get him home.

Check if he's been microchipped.
We're gong to let animal control do that. He seems well taken care of, so I'm guessing he's got a chip. My guess is that he just slipped his collar at some point and went out hunting the ladies.
There may be a Facebook lost dog group for your state or county; NC has one that has helped a lot of dogs get back home (https://www.facebook.com/LostFoundDogs.NC/?hc_ref=NEWSFEED). Craigslist also has both a lost and found and a pets section that the information can be posted on. Our local paper will also run a text announcement for free in lost and found (or a with a picture for a small fee).
If you can carve out time for those, it may help him get back home. It's amazing how many people don't chip their dogs.
He didn't show up on their shelter website, so that tells me his owners have been located.
