America's Weakness

Hurricane Katrina, and the aftermath in New Orleans, has highlighted an issue that I think we're going to see more and more often. America, over the past decades, has become increasingly unwilling to get their hands dirty, admit that some people are worth killing, and get the damn job done. Because what we see in New Orleans right now makes me sick.

At the Superdome, groups of refugees broke through a line of heavily armed National Guardsmen in a scramble to get on to the buses.

Nearby, about 15,000 to 20,000 people who had taken shelter at New Orleans Convention Center grew ever more hostile after waiting for buses for days amid the filth and the dead.

Police Chief Eddie Compass said there was such a crush around a squad of 88 officers that they retreated when they went in to check out reports of assaults.

"We have individuals who are getting raped, we have individuals who are getting beaten," Compass said. "Tourists are walking in that direction and they are getting preyed upon."

Besides my obvious question of "What the fuck are tourists still doing in New Orleans?", my pertinant question is "Why are the people who are raping and looting and committing mayhem in New Orleans not shot on sight?" And I think it's because the politicians in charge are incapable of giving those orders. They simply can't do it. They can't get the job done. They're too weak.

In any disaster of this magnitude, you will have a small segment of the population that behaves like mindless animals. The key to helping the rest of the population is insuring that those mindless animals DO NOT CONTROL THE SITUATION! And yet we have rape and assault going on in an area where people are supposed to go to be helped? That is unacceptable, no ifs, ands, or buts. If you tell people "Come on over here, we'll help you" and then allow the kind of lawlessness that we are seeing, you have failed to protect the very people you claim to want to help. If you cannot stop someone from getting raped in what is supposed to be a safe area, then you had no business bringing those people to that area to begin with.

It is to the point where people are shooting at National Guard helicopters.

These mindless animals are shooting at the very people who are trying to bring food and water into the city. Can you give me any logical reason for that? And can you give me any logical reason for why these shooters are still among the living? While watching the news this morning, I heard a reporter say that FEMA was pulling out of some areas due to the danger that the mindless animals posed to their rescue workers. Rescue workers had their lives put in jepardy by worthless thugs who want to murder, rape and kill the very people trying to help them.

Why are those thugs still breathing?

I believe that there are too many people in this country who are unable to make the hard disision to simply say "Shoot those animals until they run and hide". You cannot help people in a disaster of this magnitude if you don't control the area that you're trying to bring help to. You can't help someone if you cannot stop some worthless thug from raping or beating them. And you can't bring help to an area if the rescue workers are too damn scared for their lives to go into that area. The guns should have come out long ago. There should have been orders to shoot on sight any person seen committing a crime like rape or murder. But that didn't happen.

It seems like the people in charge just couldn't give that kind of order. And people in New Orleans are now suffering for it.

In the future, after we get the situation under control, there can be lots of hindsight on what should have been done better, what didn't get done right, or what didn't happen at all. But right now, we need to help the people of New Orleans, and we cannot do that until the thugs, murderers and animals currently in control of New Orleans are dead. Not in jail, not "dialogued" with, but dead and floating in the water. And despite all the tough talk coming from the politicians, crime and thugs are still running rampant in the city. The people in charge are simply too weak to give the orders. They all want to be "nice", and "compassionate". They want to be "nuanced" in their response. And I wonder how many women have been raped because of it.

I wonder how long it will be before someone finally gives the authorization to pull the trigger. It's already been too long.
