Whenever you hear someone talking about banning "Hate Speech", what they want is the power to ban speech they don't like.
Which means that if they suddenly decide that what you're saying is disagreeable, it's "hate speech", and they will punish you for it.
UPDATE: It appears that the column is satire. Sad part is, with the way the Left is going these days, you really can't tell without looking deep into what she's saying.

“There’s no justification for violence. But…”
“I’m a First Amendment absolutist. But…”
“You have every right to do what you did. But…”
Those seem to be how most of the Islamist apologists are starting their criticisms of Pamela Gellar, but I learned a long time ago that "but" is verbal shorthand for "Ignore everything I just said, because now I am going to tell you how I REALLY feel."
Ms. Gellar may be an asshole, but in the America I grew up in, people have the RIGHT to be assholes without getting shot for it. Insult her right back. Insult her lineage, and everything she says. That's how free speech works. But the moment you start plotting violence, you have lost the war of words, and any support of the law.
At least that is how things USED to be...
