We're down to the slow part now, where we open up boxes, look inside and say "Well crap, where does this go?" Add in the fact that we've gone from our own house with plenty of storage and a basement to a house with no basement, no porches, less storage and a much smaller yard. We downsized before we left, and we'll be downsizing again before we make everything fit.
On the other hand, we have a pool. Which rocks when the temps are in the triple digits, and all you want to do is cool off.

Ten years on active duty and lots of moves since then, and I found the best advice in a book by Spider Robinson:
When it comes time to pack, just pick a room and start at one wall. Start putting things in boxes as you work along the wall. Don't sort, just pad as needed and stuff. (Use volume intelligently.) When done, label the box (say) "Bedroom North Wall 1", and go on to the next box. Work your way around the room, and through the house that way, and forget about sorting until you get to the new location. Plus, the beauty of it is that when you are trying to remember where something IS, you merely need to remember where it WAS.
You'll need about 10% more in boxes than you would otherwise, but it saves massive headaches and hours of arguing. Let me know when you are ready to claim that adult beverage :)
