I think we need to start describing the day as "Independence Day", rather than just "4th of July/July 4th".
We don't wish each other a "Merry December the 25th", or a "Happy 4th Thursday in November". At 11:59pm on December 31st, we don't start counting down to "Happy 1st of January!"
Remind the idjits exactly WHY we are celebrating with merriment and controlled explosions, rather than getting upset and using uncontrolled ones.
Well, technically Christmas is the Feast of the Nativity of Jesus Christ. But that's a mouth-full, so it's just Christ's Mass. Thanksgiving changes days every year, so that would be confusing. "4th of July" has four syllables, while "Independence Day" has five, so...
