If you run a blog that has white script on black background, I won't be reading you. It's not that I don't like you, but it's that I cannot, literally physically cannot read what you write for more than fifteen seconds.
There are a couple of blogs like this who's authors I absolutely love to read, but I can't do it. My eyes just won't take it. Maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm getting older (*&%# you Father Time!) and can't focus the way I could in my twenties. But if you have white script on black, more likely than not I'm ending up skipping your writing because I cannot physically read what you put out.
This sucks. And maybe it's evidence that Father Time hates me and is making me a whiney little bitch. But I'm hardly the first in that regard, eh?

Just last night I ran across a blog with red text on black background. More than garish, it was unreadable. Too bad too because it looked like an interesting subject.
So, if I may add to your point, bloggers, dress your blog as you prefer but please don't mess with the text. Sure, I could highlight the text to make it more readable but the more difficult you make it for the reader, the more apt they'll pass on it. This especially when there is limited time to course through hundreds of blogs. Thank you.
P.S. While age may be a contributing factor it is minor. It remains that text can be difficult to read for many reasons unrelated to the physiology of the reader.
Nice knowin' ya, Dave.
Fran - I'm still going to give it the old college try - the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.
I actually prefer white on black. The bright white of the background gets tiring after a while.
The only websites I really can't stand are the ones with a white background and a marginally less white text. It makes it pretty much unreadable for me - I need contrast.
For those though the fix is easy enough usually. On firefox or pale moon you can hit ctrl-shift-i to open the editor and change the color of the body text to whatever you want, in my case *zero* - actual black. I don't know if that works for the background colors though, I never bothered looking.
I've been copy-and-pasting the text from the blogs to a Word Document just to be able to read it.
