As I said earlier, Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics.
Look, I have family that are at risk from death if they contract the Kung Flu. I get it. But if you have cancer, and then the Kung Flu comes in and hits you, did you die of the flu or did the flu just finish was the cancer started?
"Oh hey, look, this guy has multiple conditions that have basically sent his immune system into a crater and he's got less than a year to live at best, but it's totally the Kung Flu that killed him!"
The hysteria and fear created by people who want you scared and hysterical are going to do more harm than the actual virus.
"But if you have cancer, and then the Kung Flu comes in and hits you, did you die of the flu or did the flu just finish was the cancer started?"
ReplyDeleteIt's the old "but for" argument from first year Law School... "if a man jumps off the roof of a 30-story building, and just before he hits the ground, someone fires a bullet out the second-floor window with no intention to hurt anyone and hits and kills the man just before sidewalk impact, did the person firing the pistol commit murder?"
And the traditionally accepted answer is "yes, because his life was cut short by the actions of that man, even if only by a few milliseconds..."
Not really trying to disagree, but the point still exists.
Which, from a legal standpoint, makes sense. But you wouldn't shut down the entire firearms industry, or limit buildings to two stories or less based on the decision.
ReplyDeleteWell, some states might.
