I have electronic crap either breaking down or malfunctioning all around me right now. I don't know why, and I don't know how. All I know is I seem to be surrounded by some sort of death cloud that makes all things electronic go on the fritz. Even my Kindle.
Lovely.
If you have a decent Uninterruptible Power Supply such an APC, get a power strip plugged into it and plug all your wallwarts into that. You may be a victim of a shitty power stream down there in lalaland.
ReplyDeleteAPC also supplies their users with Power Chute, the software to shut down your PC when the power fails. Power Chute has a power-monitoring sub-routine in it which will identify the spikes and low-voltage episodes. SoCalEd is more likely to send out a tech if you have monitoring data.
BTW, most of these conditions are because someone on your particular 13.8KV transformer has made some sort of a mod, usually illegal, to consume vast amounts of power. This is usually a grow house with a bypassed meter.

A grow house? In California? Say it ain't so! I am shocked, SHOCKED, that any kind of illegal activity would be going on in Los Angeles!
ReplyDeleteWe're victims of a shitty power stream no matter what. Remember the "brownouts" from about a decade ago? This state sucks more juice than it has a right to, and it refuses to generate it's own. Electricity is expensive as all hell here, and I've seen it flicker more than once, probably from when someone turns on their AC down the street.
Just another reason I can't wait to leave.
But that still wouldn't explain why my Kindle is refusing to download a book that I'd purchased. I'll have to call someone at Amazon and ask them what the F'ing F.
