And just because

Bach's Toccata and Fugue in d minor

I happen to think that this is one of the most beautiful, haunting pieces of music ever written.  The wife can't stand it.  So every now and then when she's not home, I blast it as loud as I can.

She's reading this right now, and going "WTF, Dave?"

Sorry honey!

Dave, go on YouTube and find Karl Richter playing of Bach's Toccata & Fugue in d minor. He is fantastic, the best organist I have ever heard.

My brother played this on the organ at the University of Florida for his required recital. He was pursuing his PhD in music at the time. First time I had ever heard it live. Serious music it was(and he got his degree).

Roosevelt High School in Seattle has a wonderful organ, not as wonderful as this one, but still. In 1960 an exchange teacher from Linz, Austria, Dr. Georg Jungwirth began playing a few pieces each Saturday Afternoon on that High School organ for his personal amusement. I was one of his students in German during the week and was walking past the school when I heard the music from the street. I sneaked in, found a seat and was exposed to the first Classical Music I had ever heard. I was 15 years old. The first Classical Piece I ever heard in it's entirety was Bach's Contata and Fugue in D minor played on the Roosevelt High School Organ that afternoon. It has been a wonderful ride ever since.

    Thanks, Dr. J.
