A Rhode Island town just fired every high school teacher. Every last one of them. In a town where the average yearly income is 22k, and the teachers are making 75k and up? And the school has a 50% failure rate?
Oh boy.
A 50% FAILURE RATE???? Ladies and gentlemen, if your school has a 50% failure rate, as in 50% of the students are failing, you need to fire EVERYONE! I'm not cracking on the superintendent. I wholly support her actions. What bugs the shit out of me is that it should have happened sooner!
And the super wanted six actions taken that the teachers union balked at. Six actions that I thought were quite reasonable. Of course, if you've read me for a while, you know that I think the publik skool sistim is a pathetic, useless pile of crap that needs to be completely blown apart, and to be quite honest I'm ambivalent about whether or not it gets rebuilt after that. The publik skool sistim is part of the problem in this country. But at least one town is trying to improve it. So bully for Central Falls.
That's the kind of reform I think Americans are looking for.
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine if we could do that to congress?
