A Nasty Campaign

This election season is going to be one of the dirtiest campaigns we've ever seen. The Donks have been slinging mud for months while they did their primaries, and now it's going to get even worse. Bush is going to have to run a steady, positive campaign, while at the same time deflecting all the muck that's going to be thrown at him. And Kerry is a master at lying, slandering, and accusing. Just look at what he did to Viet Nam soldiers.

So when I see a report like this, it really makes me grit my teeth.

WASHINGTON — With a jobless report showing February's unemployment figure remained static at 5.6 percent, presumptive Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry had a lot to work with as he criticized President Bush for not generating the numbers he projected in a January economic report.

5.6% unemployment. That's better than Clinton! But Bush is getting attacked for it?

Bush's sore spot in this presidential campaign is the jobs front. New figures out Friday showed that employers in February added just 21,000 jobs, far below the 125,000 that economists had projected. January new jobs figures were also revised downward from 112,000 to 97,000.

The overall unemployment rate remained at 5.6 percent, below the average for the decade of the 1990s, but with 8.2 million workers looking for employment, the numbers could become a liability for Bush in November.
(emphasis mine)

So Bush has a lower unemployment number than the 1990's, but he's going to be hurt by it? I really want Bush to push his economic reforms during his campaign. He pulled the economy out of the crap-pile that Clinton left it in, helped it recover from September 11th, and is beating Clinton's economy. This isn't bad news, unless you're a Donk.

Which is why they're trying to put so much spin on it, I suppose.
