We just had a motorcycle t-bone a car outside our house. The motorcycle was going straight, while the car was attempting to make a left-hand turn into a busy intersection.
The car is at fault for attempting the turn, which required him to cut across three lanes of oncoming traffic and make a sharp left into his lane. But who's a fault doesn't help the rider, who is currently on the way to the hospital. Luckily, he was wearing full protective gear so he should make it out OK, but his bike is toast and he's got a hefty hospital bill coming up.
Folks, if you ride, and yes I ride as well, you have to ride as if everyone else on the road is trying to kill you. All it takes is one guy not paying attention and trying to take a short cut for you to be in big trouble. Do not assume anything. Do not think that someone will see you. Do not ride as if people on the road give a shit about you. They are trying to kill you, period, that's all you need to remember.
That's how you stay alive on a motorcycle.
You can have peace. Or you can have freedom. Don't ever count on having both at once. - Robert A. Heinlein -

Fumble fingers
I'm blogging from my tablet right now, which means my typing is less than perfect. Please forgive any mistakes.
Speed demon
My rental car is a Nissan Versa. If the previous renters had not beat the hell out of it, it would be a hot little ride.

Be Still
Every now and then, when you're lost in thought.... say, while driving through a thunderstorm in the middle of South Dakota in what SHOULD be mid-day light, and your little Suzuki is straining to keep up with your wife's much larger, stronger vehicle, and you're worried about the move, and how much it costs, and the new position, and, and, and.....
You hear that voice, and it simply says "Be Still, and know that I am God."
Followed by one of my favorites - "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
And yes, that's the Ragin' Mrs' vehicle ahead of me. Her beast was pulling more weight than my vehicle weighs in total and she could still outpace me any time she wanted to. But my scoot is a rag-top, which we love here in CA. And I get about twice the gas mileage. There's a price to be had for that power.
Blog stuff
Updated the blogroll a bit. Got rid of some who hadn't posted for a while, added a few that I had in my personal blog folder. There will be more coming as I see fit.
