Sinatra and Count Basie

The Count!  Sinatra!

Back in the day, this would be the equivalent of....  hell, there's nobody today who has the talent, class, and stage presence that these two had.

The Chairman

Frankie Baby!

Somewhere I have a CD of Frank Sinatra with Count Basie.  The music is so damn sweet that it damn near melts the paint off the walls.

Dean Martin

Sometimes I wonder if he just performed pickled most the time, but he was one of the classic crooners of all time, and I just like to play his CD and try to imitate his sound.  That smooth as cream voice, that made women's panties melt away like ice on a hot day.....

Today's Planned for, pre-scheduled post

So, from an email that my Congress-critter sends out, I got the "Ten Cannots" that I figured I would share.  I didn't want to post it on Independence Day, so I just scheduled it out a day.  I think I'm going to print these out and put them up on my quote wall at work for a day or two.

A few years ago, I shared “The Ten Cannots” by Reverend William J.H. Boetcher in an edition of E-News.  This year as we deal with a mounting debt crisis that is a threat to our way of life, an ever encroaching federal government, skyrocketing cost of entitlement programs and federal, state and local governments that are adding literally thousands of new laws and tens of thousands of pages of new regulations every year, I would like to share these wise words with you again; some things bear repeating.
  • You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
  • You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
  • You cannot help little men by tearing down big men.
  • You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
  • You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
  • You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money.
  • You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
  • You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.
  • You cannot build character and courage by destroying men's initiative and independence.
  • And you cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they can and should do for themselves
Spread it around.  Enjoy!

Independence Day

I'll bet that when the Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence back on July 2nd, 1776, they never thought that people would celebrate that event on the Fourth of July instead.

In all seriousness........

Go hug your family.  Enjoy the day.  Watch fireworks.  Eat lots of food and drink lots of whatever your favorite beverage is.

And then tomorrow wake up and start fighting for your independence all over again.

Vacation Time

I'll be heading out tomorrow, and I will not have the internet for a week.  I've got a few pre-scheduled posts, but other than that no bloggy goodness from me until the 11th or 12th.

It'll be good to get away for a while.

Battle Hymn of the Republic

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of Wrath are stored;
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible Swift sword;
His truth is marching on.

CHORUS
Glory, glory! Hallelujah!  Glory, glory! Hallelujah!
Glory, glory! Hallelujah!  His truth is marching on.

I have seen Him in the watchfires of a hundred circling Camps;
They have building Him an altar in the evening dews and Damps;
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring Lamps;
Our God is marching on.

CHORUS

I have read a fiery gospel, writ in burnished rows of steel;
"As ye deal with my contemners, so with you my grace shall Deal;
Let the hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heel,
Since God is marching on."

CHORUS

He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call Retreat;
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgement Seat;
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! by jubliant, My feet!
Our God is marching on.

CHORUS

In the beauty of the lilies, Christ was born across the Sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me;
As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free,
While God is marching on.

CHORUS
