For those of you who haven't been paying attention, or for those who are checking in for the first time, the Active Guard and Reserve is a component of the Army that exists to assist and work with Guard and Reserve units around the world. I have been attempting to become part of the AGR.
I first enlisted as a Military Police officer in 1995, and when I re-enlisted last year, my unit sent me to a Logistics school this past December. Just a little background there.
About half an hour ago, I was informed that I have been accepted into the AGR program, and in late March or early April, I will be stationed at Ft. Buchanan, Puerto Rico.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

I should have left a complimentary note on the car, but I didn't have any paper and it was raining.
Anyways, I'm here at the conference. Nothing much happening today, mostly preliminary stuff that needs to be taken care of. Tomorrow is when most decisions will be made. Wish me luck.
And since I don't have time to rant and rage, why don't you go read this piece by Kim du Toit about the president's plan to revamp Social Security, and how the Lame-Stream media is again, being the Democrat propaganda whores they turn out to be.
Here's my take on it all, folks. Lets say that you entered the workforce in 1960. Since this is an alternate universe we're talking about, you don't pay social security, you put all of that money into the stock market. All of it. Every penny. Any good financial advisor will tell you that you NEVER put all your cash in the market, you spread it out a bit through mutual funds, real estate, ect. That way if one part of your investment takes a hit, the rest of your investments are safe. But anyways, this guy in 1960 puts all his cash into the stock market.
Now let's say that this guy retires and pulls all his cash out in 2001. Right when the stock market tanks and hits bottom.
This guy would be so far ahead of the return that Social Security could give him that it's not even funny. Can anyone tell me the actual return from SS? I've heard anywhere from 2% to .02%, and yes, that's a decimal point in front of that zero. That's what the government is supposed to guarantee, and IT CAN'T DO IT!
The government is the WORST investment you could ever make. What the congresscritters don't want you to know is that there is no Social Security lockbox. There is no fund that's been saved up. The benifits paid out this year are from last year's tax revenues, and if that stream of cash dries up, then congress would be forced to admit that they've been lying out their asses for decades while they used money that was supposed to go to Social Security for all their vote-buying pork barrel products. THAT is why they don't want you to control your own money. THAT is why they're afraid of you investing for your own future. They don't want to let go of the reins, because once you figure out that these fucking theives have been dicking around with your cash, then you probably won't let them get any more of it. And that scares the shit out of them.
Just another reason I think that Washington DC needs to be nuked. Or at least bulldoze it and start over. Those felonious fuckwads don't deserve another chance.

AGR, here we come
I'm headed to Sea-Tac today for the AGR conference. Talk about karma - I escaped Seattle only to be sent back for a weekend on the Army's dime.
Life is weird sometimes.
Ah well, I only have to stay there for a little while. And I don't actually LIVE there. Life could be worse. I'll be bringing my laptop with me, so I'll try to keep everybody updated. Until then, if any of my old Seattle compatriots would like to get together andraise hell rehash old stories, let me know. I should have some time free in the evenings.

The African Union and various relief agencies report that Sudanese planes bombed the village of Rahad Kabolong in North Darfur state. The attack took place on January 26 and left more than 100 people dead. Some 9000 people fled the village and the surrounding area after the air attack. A monitoring team reported that most of the dead were women and children.Not genocide.

Elections in Iraq
So, I'm sure that many of you got the news that Iraq held it's first real elections in three decades. Some of you got it from Fox News, some of you got it from CNN. I don't have a TV where I'm at right now. So I have to get my news either second hand or a bit more directly.
As in, directly from the source. One of my former co-workers is finishing up a deployment in Iraq, and emailed a big group of people this evening. Here's his email, with his last name removed for privacy, since he doesn't yet know that I'm publishing it.

Well, the Iraq Elections went off pretty good. Out of all the registered voters (I don't know the number, but it's ALOT of people), 72% voted. I think thats more voters than we had in our country. Kinda makes a year over here worth it. We had a Mass Casualty Point setup, just in case, but it didn't need to be used. Not even once.
I'm sure that in the news there talking about the suicide bomber that got within 500 meters of a polling site and blew himself up. The reporters probably didn't tell you the Iraqi voters spit on this guys body parts as they walked past hime to vote. I'm sure that part wasn't put on the news.
