So AK was listening to some Leftie Radio here in Seattle, and the local talk show host was up in arms about the fact that the USA was sending the USS Abraham Lincoln to assist in recovery and aid.
She didn't like the fact that we were sending a war machine there. In the mind of the typical Seattle Lefist, the military is the anti-christ reborn.
But here's a bit of information that our moonbat Seattlites seem to have forgotten. A Nimitz class aircraft carrier can produce 400,000 gallons of fresh water a day.
That's 16,667 gallons per hour. 99.99999% of which can go to the people on shore who need it. But if the leftists had their way, none of that would happen. After all, we're sending water purification ships, why do we need a carrier group to go as well?
Well, here's a bit of trivia that my brother in law (US Navy guy) informed me of. In addition to the water purification that a carrier can do, the standard Nimitz class carrier has the capacity to generate enough electricity for a small city. It can tie up to a dock, hook up some power cables and send a whole lotta juice to shore.
Lemme give you an idea. Imagine a battery the size of South Dakota.
Yeah.
My unit is a combat support hospital, and it has two 100 KW generators to run the entire thing. OR, Decon, all the beds, all the equipment, all of it. And a hospital pulls a TON of juice. But compared to an aircraft carrier, we're small potatoes.
All in all, a carrier group with several water purification ships can power an entire city, and supply enough fresh water for everyone in it. There are also the food producing capabilities, the mechanic shops, the metal fabrication capabilities, and so much more. A carrier is a small city floating on water, with the supplies and support functions that need to go with it. All of which can be used to help the people in tsunami devastated lands.
The next time some Leftie throws a temper tantrum about the US sending a carrier group, shut them down with the truth. Again.
You can have peace. Or you can have freedom. Don't ever count on having both at once. - Robert A. Heinlein -

I'm not the only one
who's noticing that the corrupt, dirty, thieving, lying, shit sucking, money grabbing, power thirsty fucking parasites (also known as Democrats) in Washington State have been very naughty.
Tisk tisk, you fucking vermin. We're on to your dirty tricks. And hopefully soon there will be quite a few of you rotting in jail where you belong.

2005
I hope that everybody had a good New Years Eve celebration. I spent the better part of the day hauling around 80 pound concrete forms, and then proceeded to have some scotch when I got back. My arms have still not recovered. Neither has my back. But I made some cash, and that's a good thing.
So I'll let you post your NYE party horror stories to entertain me whilst I soak my forearms in epson salts.

Bush "Undermines" UN!
United States President George Bush was tonight accused of trying to undermine the United Nations by setting up a rival coalition to coordinate relief following the Asian tsunami disaster.
YES! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU, President George W. Bush! It's like he gives us little presents every now and again! :)
Taking her accuastion seriously, I couldn't be more proud of him for bypassing the den of leaches and vipers.
When Good Victims Wear Bad Shirts
Scroll down. Love the bin Laden T-shirt on that Tsunami survivor. Anyone wearing one of those doesn't get a damned cent worth of aid.

Well Holy Crap!
Jim is back.
I was starting to get worried, but I figured that he'd work out whatever he needed to work out, and he would be back in a bit. I didn't figure that it would take TWO FIGGING MONTHS.
Still, I'm damn glad he's back. Good to see you, Cap'n.

Timing and Opportunity
Bush can't win anything but a Presidential race.
I suspect strongly that had he come out fast, early and hard after the tragedy, he would have been criticized for using a tragedy as a PR opportunity.
Turning this into a partisan, Bush bashing opportunity lacks class, dignity and is an insult to the dead thousands.

My favorite: " The world was wonderful to us. I will NEVER forget those pictures of memorials and candle lightings all over the world. They won't forget that we turned out to be cold-hearted bastards when they were suffering. Nor should they."
Hmmm.
Vigil aid good. Money aid bad.

The academy, however, should believe its own findings. Based on 253 journal articles, 99 books, 43 government publications, a survey that covered 80 different gun-control measures and some of its own empirical work, the panel couldn't identify a single gun-control regulation that reduced violent crime, suicide or accidents.Intriguing.

"This is a place for Trolls to brag of conquest, bannings, and the especially toucy blogger they may have found. Herein anything Troll like is very welcome."
Just a reminder of who this pathetic little "Phoenix" (or should we call you "pigwiggle"?)really is. Take a look.
I disagree with Dave.
Leave the gentle trip into the good night to the despicable Susan Sontag. Washington Republicans: GET IN THERE AND FIGHT!!! There'll be no time better than now to demonstrate the crooked politics of American Cities.

"In short," researchers Alexander Karp, Gary A. Tobin and Aryeh Weinberg write in the journal Philanthropy, "American philanthropy is extraordinary by any world standard and the reason is that America herself is exceptional."Someone do a cost / benefit analysis on having the UN in New York, please. I find myself no longer willing to host them (unless it helps Americans turn a buck, natch).

The Still Growing Left
Kim du Toit is pointing people to Kevin Baker's question of the day.
Both Kim and Kevin have answers to that question, and I agree with both of them. But there's another facet that I think both of them missed, or perhaps just didn't think was important enough to mention. I think it's rather important, and needs to be realized.
One reason that the Left continues to spread it's failure-bound ideology is that the people spreading it, by and large, have insulated themselves from the negative ramifications of their decisions.
How many business owners do you see trying to spread the socialist propaganda of the Left? Not too many. Most business owners understand that socialism and communism spell failure for anyone trying to run a business. These owners deal with the effects of their business decisions on a daily basis, and if they screw up, they are the ones who have to deal with the consequences. The same goes for people just working full time and trying to run a household, or raise children. Their decisions and the results of them are felt almost immediately, and must be dealt with by the people responsible.
When's the last time some communist college professor had to deal with the consequences of his actions? Why do you think that universities are so full of bullshit laden socialist fuckwits? Because it doesn't matter what some braindead hippie holdover says or does, his paycheck keeps on coming. He can spout off all the communist propaganda he wants to, and at the end of the day he still gets to go to his taxpayer dollar furnished home. The consequences of his actions are felt by someone else. The failure of the communist ideology will be felt by the poor people who have to suffer under it. While the idiots and morons keep spouting off anti-capitalist blather, they are not the ones who have to deal with the end results of it all.
Like many conservatives, I was pretty liberal when I was younger. That seems to be a common theme these days. When you're young, you have many if not most of your needs taken care of by someone else. Parents, relatives, whoever. Most of us didn't have to worry about IF we were going to have dinner, we were worried about what we were having. For some people, the biggest problem they had in highschool was that their parents didn't buy them a car. Your basic needs were taken care of by someone else.
And then, you graduated. Some of you went to college, some of you went into the military, some of you went to a forty-hour a week job. And all of a sudden, those basic needs, which up to this point had been taken care of, were YOURS to deal with.
You want to stay out all night and party? Fine and dandy, you're an adult, but when the rent comes due and you spent all your cash on booze, what are you going to do? Wanna buy that new stereo? Find and dandy, but what are you going to have for dinner when that thousand dollar piece of equipment is sitting in your living room? I guarantee that many of the people reading this have spent more than a few days living on coffee and Top Ramen. I know that I did. Two bucks for a case of Ramen noodles at the local supermarket. If I had just gotten paid, then I could afford chicken leg quarters ($0.48 a pound!). Mowing lawns, shoveling sidewalks, washing cars or houses, all on my days off, just so that I could make a few extra bucks. If I screwed up, then I had to deal with it. I had to fix it. I couldn't afford some pie-in-the-sky pipe dream that was ultimately doomed to failure. And most of the conservatives today dealt with many of the same issues, if not the same cases that I did.
Compare that to the Left today, which has built up a system that ultimately protects those who continue to make poor decision after poor decision. These are the people who live on other people's largesse. The ones who live on the government's dime, or who make a living by sucking wealth and good fortune from other people. Their actions and their decisions have almost no effect on their paychecks. When is the last time you saw a federal worker get fired? Teachers and professors, once entrenched, almost take an Act of God to remove, even if they're the worst teacher you've ever seen. Trust me, I tried. I had to deal with some of them. I wrote some time ago about two teachers getting caught screwing each other in the school gym, and all they received was a suspension. Og at Neanderpundit had a niece who witnessed these two "teachers" in the act, and despite Og's assurances that the two teachers are being taken to task, I note that they are still employed by the school district.
If I had been found screwing a nurse at the hospital I worked at, while both of us were on the clock, we would have been fired right there on the spot. These two "teachers" are still employed. They do not have to face the consequences of their actions. And I'm willing to bet my entire back account that both of them voted Democrat in the last election.
The Left's ideology is continually spread by those who do not have to face the consequences of their actions or words.
So that's my rather long winded take on it all. Anyone else want to offer up a suggestion or two?
If it is so blindingly obvious to many of us that the ideologies behind, for example, gun control and welfare are so fundamentally flawed, why are these ideologies not dead? Not only are they not dead, in many ways, still flourishing? Why is the demonstrably erroneous ideology of the Left still advanced by people who just want to keep turning up the power, with the resultant escalation of failure?
Both Kim and Kevin have answers to that question, and I agree with both of them. But there's another facet that I think both of them missed, or perhaps just didn't think was important enough to mention. I think it's rather important, and needs to be realized.

Mama-Farging Cork-Suckers
Analog Kid has been keeping tabs on the election debacle here in Washington state. He's up to number twelve, and it looks like the good guys lost this one. With the fraud, corruption, and outright thievery of the Democrats who hold power in the Seattle area, there's no way that Dino Rossi can continue to fight without looking increasingly bad.
However, I'm going to follow Analog Kid's lead.
"Selected, not elected"! Let's finally use that phrase where it belongs! And trust me, should the Republicans take AK's advice, they WILL find evidence of election fraud.
Hell, bloggers have already found it. It shouldn't take too long for a politician to stumble across it.
However, I'm going to follow Analog Kid's lead.
I hate to say this, but I am of the mind now that the Repubs will never get this fight started in time and that Rossi should conceed so as to leave an image in the state's citizens that he is not a crybaby.
Then, the Repubs can do their investigation without the hinderence of the press demanding to look over their shoulder. When they find provable evidence of election fraud in King County, they can put out to the public and begin to gather signatures for a recall.
Until then, I am content to call Gregoire my 'Selected, Not Elected' Governor.

Bush Honeypot Doctrine
I recall trying to explain the notion of a honeypot to some uberLibs about eighteen months ago, shortly after the invasion of Iraq. They couldn't comprehend it. They laughed. I said "This stuff is twenty-four HUNDRED years old", directing them to The Art of War.
"Hold out baits to entice your enemy," I quoted, "then crush him."

Vote Fraud? You bet!
I rant about vote fraud - Other people prove it.
Pull on Superman's Cape has two posts about it, with photo evidence.
Sound Politics has commentary on it as well.
My two cents? The thieving, lying, cheating, swindling, corrupt, worthless, goatfucking shitwads known as Democrats will get away with it. They're in power in the Pugetropolis, and they'll do anything they can to get away with their crimes.

By the way....
When I refer to Washington State as a liberal-ridden shithole of communist overlord-wannabes and the suffering conservatives who have to deal with them, I'm not joking.
So parents can't be parents anymore, basically. Thanks, Lefties! Is there any other fascet of life that you haven't tried to fuck up beyond all belief? Is there anything that you won't try to corrupt? Is there perhaps one snippet of life that has been untouched by the foul corruption of the Left? Let's hope so.
What a clusterfuck. This state is pretty much ruled by the Pugetropolis, and everyone else suffers while the insane, mentally retarded Left monkeys around and flings shit everywhere.
And the ACLU, why the hell hasn't it just come out and admitted that it's part and parcel of the Democrats? Why the joke of a pretense that they're unbiased? They stick up for NAMBLA, for g-d's sake! Yeah, they're perfectly fine with grown men trying to fuck a young boy up the ass (That's called RAPE, folks!) but when a parent tries to actually PARENT their kids, the ACLU is against it. What a goatscrew. Which, as it happens, is yet another thing the ACLU would be in favor of. Just as long as it wasn't conservative.
The Washington Supreme Court has ruled that parents no longer have the right to eavesdrop on their children’s phone conversations — establishing a personal right-to-privacy for minors. The decision overturned a purse-snatching robbery conviction, which hinged largely upon information obtained when a mother eavesdropped on her 14-year-old daughter’s conversation with the now “alleged” thief.
Not surprisingly, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), an organization that has previously advocated for lowering the sexual age of consent to thirteen, filed a friend-of-the-court brief in support of establishing privacy rights for minors.

A light hearted post
Because I can't stand the thought of nothing but doom and gloom over the holidays.
How many of these have you tried?
I haven't had reindeer or guinea pig, but I'm willing to give it a shot. I always try to sample something I haven't had before. I ate jellyfish when I was in Korea, and I'll try just about anything once. And if it goes well with whiskey, I'll try it twice.

Helping the Asians
Lee at Right Thinking has the skinny. I made note of this post because earlier this day I was reading posters at Democratic Underpants deriding the $100,000 number, like that's all "Bush" was going to send.
Which reminds me...
...of a time when I worked in an office building that was shared by two brothers, one was CEO of a software development firm, the other a computer distributor. The latter occupied only a small part of the office space but, of course, used the warehouse space in the back to their advantage. There was just one problem: the place was a mess.
Nay, a disgrace. We all used to joke about it.
Then the company hired this thirty-something fellow straight out of the Army. Dude had been a Quartermaster.
Three days later, a guy I worked with dragged me out back to the warehouse. The place had been totally transformed - everything in its bin, a bin for everything, and one could have dined off the floor. My coworker (he was Army PsyOps) looked at me and said:
"You know what this is called, man?
"No," I said.
"Two words," he replied. "Squared away."
We were out back catching a smoke the first time thereafter a big shipment arrived from Compaq. The driver of the truck got out of his cab, walked up the ramp with his delivery paperwork, looked around and whistled, then marveled: "What the hell happened here?"
Squared away.
It's been part of my personal lexicon ever since.

Training completed
At least this part of it, anyways. I still have at least one more school to go to, and if I can swing it I'll be going to quite a few more. However, I am now a Quartermaster.
That's supply, for those who don't know.
Certainly not the most glamourous job, but damn important. Patton found that out when he was trying to reach Berlin in '44. Soldiers win skirmishes. Generals win battles. Logistics wins wars. The best training, the best equipment, the best soldiers and leaders can't do anything if they don't have people bringing them beans and bullets.
So that's my new job, at least for the next few months. The 91W training is possibly on hold, due to there being an over abundance of them in the Army at this time. From what I've been able to figure out, all the people slated for 91W are being transfered to different jobs if possible. Meh. I really wanted to be a medic, but if I have to remain supply, so be it. If that turns out to be the case, then I'm going to push for another school. Airborn, if possible. Air Assault, perhaps. Right now I'm just playing it by ear and seeing what pops up. If I can still get tghe 91W school, great.
I spent Christmas with my wife and parents at their house in Coeur d'Alene, ID. Not a very large affair, but good family and more great food than you could shake a stick at. Man, I love my mom's cooking. I sang at Midnight Mass with the church choir, and then came home to presents and whiskey.
Life right now is good.
However, I get the nagging feeling that I shouldn't have returned to the Seattle area at all. The Democrats have managed to cheat and steal their way into the govenor's mansion. The state Republicans will be filing a lawsuit, but I don't expect much to come out of it. This is Washington State, after all.
I also see that Southeast Asia has suffered a natural disaster. My heart goes out to all those people. The USA should be sending help as soon as possible.
In any case, it won't take me long to get riled up by something from Seattle. I'll post more when I actually have something to rant about.
See you all soon!

Tsunami Fodder
Tim Blair has some news and links about the Asian tsunami disaster, including some letters to the Sydney Morning Herald that you just HAVE to see.
