So the basic gist of the story is that a second rate little fishwrapper called The Guardian is giving Brits the names and email addresses of voters in Ohio so the Brits can email the Ohioans and tell them how suckie President Bush. NASA's Genesis space capsule crashed in the Utah desert last month because a critical piece of equipment that was supposed to trigger the release of two parachutes apparently was installed backward, space-agency officials said Thursday.

The finding, if verified, would be a blow to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and its major contractor on the $264 million Genesis mission, Lockheed Martin Corp., which also was involved in the 1999 loss of NASA's Mars Climate Orbiter because of a mix-up between English and metric units.

The latest attempt has come with the Democratic party trying to block The Sinclair Broadcast Group's plan to run the program, "Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal," two weeks before the Nov. 2 election. Thankfully, they have failed. The FCC is not going to intervene. (Needless to say, my VCR will be running when that baby comes on).

Freedom of speech won this round. But will it win the next round? What happens if the next FCC chairman is more sympathetic to Democratic causes? This example, (as if you needed any more), illustrates how much Liberals hate freedom when it applies to anybody but themselves. Republicans made no attempt to use the government to silence Michael Moore or moveon.org. The Conservative defense to the Moonbat Movement has been to debunk their saliva-spewing, purple-faced, quivering-with-anger, foaming-at-the-mouth ravings with facts, and then publicize them via talk radio and blog sites like this. The Democrat response has been to hope for mainstream media silence, then smear the attackers, then try to censor.

As I sat there listening to the litany of BS that spews from the liberal mind and mouth, I realized John Fonda Kerry had proven the anti-gun control side of the assault weapons ban argument. And I quote: "I was hunting in Iowa last year with a sheriff from one of the counties there, (OK Johnny boy, yer hunting LAST YEAR) and he pointed to a house in back of us, and said, "See the house over? Joshua Phelps had been at a re-enactment with his Civil War costume, including a musket last week. He threw the uniform and equipment into his truck and forgot about it. Yesterday a security guard at the Pine Bush High School saw it and called police.

Not a very good story by the AP. They say "car" and then they say "truck". Which one was it?

Another scandal for the media?

Did you know that the SEC is investigating newspapers for information on their circulation practices? It seems a few other major newspapers, like The Dallas Morning News and the Chicago Sun Times, got busted ripping off advertisers by overstating their circulation. I wouldn't be surprised if the SEC uncovers more.

S.E.C. Inquiry on Circulation at Newspapers Said to Widen

More than half a dozen newspaper companies have received letters from the Securities and Exchange Commission seeking information about their circulation practices as part of an inquiry prompted by disclosures of inflated sales at other chains, people involved in the inquiry said yesterday.

Among the companies that have received requests for documents from the commission over the last two months are Dow Jones, Gannett, Knight Ridder, McClatchy, The New York Times Company and the Washington Post Company, these people said. Representatives of those companies declined to comment yesterday, as did a spokesman for the S.E.C.

One organization that did confirm that it had been contacted by the S.E.C. was the Audit Bureau of Circulations, which collects and monitors circulation data for newspapers and magazines.

One person involved in the inquiry emphasized that none of the companies contacted were considered to have done anything wrong or to be a target. Instead, the commission was seeking, at least initially, to mount a fact-finding effort on behalf of investors who use circulation figures as one measure of the relative health of publicly held newspaper companies. Such figures are also used to set advertising rates.

Confidence in the accuracy of those figures has been shaken in recent months, after Newsday, Hoy, The Dallas Morning News and The Chicago Sun-Times revealed that they had overstated their circulations by tens of thousands of copies each day. The parent companies of these papers have since set aside more than $130 million to reimburse advertisers.

When Tribune announced in June that the circulations of Newsday and the Spanish-language paper Hoy were inflated, the company said it was cooperating with an S.E.C. inquiry. A spokesman for the Belo Corporation, which owns The Morning News, said yesterday that it, too, had received a request for information from the commission.

Hollinger International, which owns The Sun-Times, entered into a consent decree with the commission in January, nearly half a year before it disclosed its circulation irregularities, as part of an investigation into several hundred million dollars in disputed payments to executives.

But with its letters to the other companies, the commission is apparently casting a wider net to gauge whether the practices acknowledged by Tribune, Belo and Hollinger are widespread.

"We received under confidential terms from the S.E.C. a letter saying the S.E.C. was reviewing industry practices on circulation,'' said one newspaper executive, who insisted on anonymity. "We think others received that letter. It stated very clearly we were not a target and was not intended to suggest any wrongdoing. At the same time, it is confidential.''

For the newspaper industry, which has struggled for years with stagnant readership levels, the S.E.C.'s scrutiny has the potential to undermine further the confidence of advertisers and investors, who have driven down the stock prices of several newspaper companies in recent months. But should the commission's inquiry find that the practices of Newsday, Hoy, The Sun-Times and The Morning News were anomalies, the industry might be able to put the circulation scandal behind it.

The efforts by the S.E.C.'s enforcement division to get a fix on the circulation practices of publicly held newspaper companies are in keeping with the commission's stepped-up scrutiny in recent years of other industries' accounting practices. Last year, for example, the commission sent out letters to food suppliers to determine whether an accounting scandal at the Dutch food retailer Royal Ahold was a symptom of more systemic problems involved marketing and promotional practices within the supermarket industry.

Those informed of the questions that the commission has been asking of newspaper companies said that they related to the specific practices acknowledged by Newsday, The Sun-Times and The Morning News.

In July, for example, a team of four Newsday reporters found that the paper, which is based in Melville, N.Y., had long increased its readership numbers by delivering free (and at times unsolicited) papers to homes, which the company then counted as paid.

Last month, Belo reported the results of an independent investigation that found that senior managers at The Morning News pressured their subordinates to achieve ambitious increases in readership and dangled trips and cash before outside contractors as inducements to refrain from returning unsold copies of the paper, thus giving the appearance they had been sold.

And Hollinger International said last week that it had uncovered numerous schemes by former managers that were intended to hide returns of The Sun-Times, including payments to distributors similar to those made at The Morning News

I have been working out a lot lately, down from 255 in August to 232 today, still probably 15 pounds over but no longer "obese" (technically-speaking, I was).

When I visit the gym, I typically go with the Stairmaster, since it is low impact and high cardio. That's what I need.

Random Thoughts and neuron firings.

First of all....

Other than the conservative blogosphere, have you heard much about the Australian elections? I didn't think so. My two local fishwraps had tiny blurbs that basically stated "John Howard won." Now I know that many American news outlets tend towards American-centric news, but considering that Howard won by a large margin, and that this election had massive connotations about how Australia interacts with the rest of the world and America in particular, you would think that the press would give it a little more weight. Tim Blair has been all over it. This is much bigger news than the American mass media would have you believe, and has connotations that will effect Iraq, Afghanistan, and the continuing war on terror.

John Kerry said he wants to get terrorism back to simply being a "nuisance".

Excuse me?

I don't think there has been a statement John Fonda Kerry made that more clearly shows that he is unfit to be president. Talk about September 10th style of thinking! Tell me John, was terrorism a "nuisance" when they only blew up the BASEMENT of the World Trade Center? Was terrorism only a "nuisance" when they blew up the USS Cole? Was terrorism only a "nuisance" when they were attacking US embassies in Africa, or the Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia?

John Fonda Kerry obviously has no problem with being killed slowly, a death by a thousand suicide bombs rather than one big mushroom cloud. There's a bigger problem with that thinking; allowing terrorist to remain a "nuisance" gives them the opportunity to build that nuke, or that bio-weapon, and all of a sudden the many little deaths are followed by the big attack.

Just like on September 11th. Terrorism was only a "nuisance" until they flew planes into New York City, into landmarks of our country, and ended the lives of three thousand people, hurting thousands more. How many lives were changed that day? How many children lost their parents? How many people lost their spouses, how many people came home to an empty house because terrorism had been allowed to exist as a simple "nuisance"?

In one interview, John Fonda Kerry demonstrated that he is unfit to be in charge of this country. I only hope that enough people heard that comment.

Gratuitous commercial announcment: Ammo Day is coming. Kim is asking everyone to buy at least 100 rounds of their favorite ammo on November 19th, to send a message to any gun grabbing congresscritters. The effect of billions of rounds of ammo being bought on the same day does have a large effect, as well as supports your local gun shops/ammo dealers. If you don't own a gun, why not buy 100 rounds for a friend who does? Besides, you know you're going to use it eventually!

And who wouldn't want to roll into their favorite ammo shop with their brand spanking new Molon Labe sticker on their vehicle? I know most people who read my stuff here already have one, but let your gun owning friends know about them.

And admit it, "Molon Labe" sounds a hell of a lot better than "From my cold, dead hands". Because the latter phrase implies that you're dead. And I don't know about you, but I'd rather be alive and flipping the bird at the gun grabbers, screaming "Come and get them!" than dead. Maybe that's just me.

And lastly, this will be me final post for a couple of weeks. I'm going on vacation, a well deserved break. I think that I've been burning the candle at both ends for a bit too long, and my heath kinda took a downward turn at the end of it all. I'm still coughing a bit, but for the most part I'm healthy again, and I'd like to make sure that I stay that way. So, I'm getting in my truck and heading east. I'll be in Idaho for a week, and then I'll be heading to Montana, then maybe South and West for a while. After Idaho, I'm just going to throw a dart at a map and go where ever I hit. I'll take the backroads to get there, and relax. Me, the dog, and .... well, not the girlfriend.

You see, the Raging Girlfriend and I have figured out that our situation just wasn't working out. We both agreed that the current life was just not working for us, and we needed a change. I had a wondeful time dating her for over three years, but we both needed something more.

That's why on Sunday, October 17th, the Raging Girlfriend will become my lawfully wedded wife, and I'll become her lawfully wedded husband, until death do us part.

Yeah, we're getting married. C'mon, you didn't think I was gonna let her get away, did you? The woman flat out rocks! And she gets a kick about of being referred to as the "Raging Wife". We're getting married in Idaho, surrounded by family and friends, in a semi-traditional ceremony. Pictures may be forthcoming, depending on if I feel like it or not.

So when I return in two weeks, I'll be a married man. Hopefully I'll be rested, fit, healthy, and ready to rock and roll. Election time is fast approaching, and when I return I'll be blogging on it with my typical subtlety. Which is to say - none. However, until then I'm not touching a computer once I leave the house. Between getting married and camping with my new wife, I'm going to be a bit .... (ahem) BUSY to be getting online and blogging. (wink wink, nudge nudge, knowwhatImean?)

Second of all, if this war is all about oil, WHY THE HELL IS THE PRICE GOING UP???? Where are the barrels and barrels of sweet life-giving crude that I was promised? I was promised them, wasn't I? If I wasn't then why the hell do I have this sooper-seekrit VRWC card for? Dammit, what good is it being part of some vast conspiracy if I can't have a few barrels of oil to bathe in? I don't make a point of reading Ann Coulter every week. I know some people do. Every time I do read her, I find myself nodding in agreement. Her latest piece, regarding John Edwards, had me doing so.
