Homebrewing

I never did tell you how my first batch of mead came out, did I?  We ended up using a sherry yeast, because both the Ragin' Mrs. and I enjoy a good sherry.  It turned out...  well...  awesome.  Using honey made it both rich and sweet, and the sherry yeast gave it a unique flavor that you can't buy anywhere.  One batch we added pomegranate juice to, and the results are spectacular.

Needless to say, we're brewing up a few more batches of various things.  As of right now I have a hard apple cider fermenting in my basement, a batch of apple-honey wine, and three different melomels, which are mead mixed with some sort of fruit.  We have an apple melomel, a cherry melomel, and one melomel that mixed with spiced mulled cider, which would make it a melomel metheglyn.

Yeah, I know, all these new terms.  Melomel is mead made with fruit added into it.  Metheglyn is mead made with herbs and spices added in.

And to top it all off, my buddy and I just started a five gallon batch of nut brown ale.  We added a few more hops than you normally would, but that's just because we like them.

Later today, the Ragin' Mrs. and I are headed up to a home brew shop to pick up some supplies.  Gonna make a day of it.  Later, I'll take the dog for a walk and smoke a good cigar.  So in short this day is going to be all about relaxing and enjoying myself.  You know what I'm not going to do?  Blog about the news.  My blood pressure will thank me later.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to dine.

One bonus

To changing my template - you can actually see the comments from the main page!

WOO HOO!

Changes, they are a'comin.....

Name change time again.  I guess when you kick yourself free of whatever mooring you've been attached to for almost a decade, you tend to drift for a while before you find new ground.

In any case, as the blog header states, you can have peace, or you can have freedom.  Don't ever count on having both at once.  That's one of my favorite quotes from Heinlein, and it's short enough to make a blog title out of.  It tends to fit my personality a bit better than "Ense et Aratro" as well, in that I'm much more enamored of freedom than I am of peace.

Slavery can be peaceful.  But I still don't want any.

I'll be making more changes in the next few days.  Colors, backgrounds, etc.  It'll still be me ranting and raving, but I'll be doing it in a different style, I guess.

Any opinions out there?

Roundup

CBO admits that Obamacare will kill 800,000 jobs.  Enjoy!

On Egypt:  If you aren't convinced that Obama is completely and totally out of his depth, then you haven't been watching him deal with the situation in Egypt.  Obama is a fucking joke, the kind of sad fucking joke that can only come when a semi-intelligent out-of-touch Chicago hack Marxist gets pushed into the Oval Office by his Leftist buddies and the media (but I repeat myself).  Enjoy watching our reputation get shot to hell!

And since we're on the subject of Obama, let's play a hypothetical game.

Emperor Misha has something to say about all those people who want rail, high speed rail, elevated rail, or any other kind of mass transit involving passenger cars and rails in any combination.  Look, folks - rail makes sense in a very few, very small set of circumstances.  And those circumstances as Misha points out do not really exist in America.

It's to the point that every time I hear a politician talking, or see them bloviating on TV, the only thing I can think of is Monty Python's Upperclass Twit of the Year Competition.

Enjoy.  I'm off to check my email

A picture is worth a thousand words

So here are 3000+ words worth of how worthless Obama is on the economy.  Enjoy!

Balls to the wall

Other than dinner with the Ragin' Mrs., I didn't actually sit down last night until about 2215 hrs.  Crashed into my bed at about 2300.  Woke up at 0530 after hitting the snooze a few times.

It's been like this for a while.  Davey-boy is getting a wee bit tired.  Although two nights ago I actually crashed at 2130, and slept hard through the night.  Still tired.

I've been holding off

On the whole "Obama leaked British secrets to Russia" news because it's one of those "No, that can't be true" kind of things.  But when Thomas Sowell is mentioning it.....

The British newspaper The Telegraph has reported that part of the price which President Obama paid to get Russia to sign the START treaty, limiting nuclear arms, was revealing to the Russians the hitherto secret size of the British nuclear arsenal. This information came from the latest WikiLeaks documents.

To betray vital military secrets of this country's oldest, most steadfast and most powerful ally, behind the back of the British government, is something that should set off alarm bells. Following in the wake of earlier betrayals of prior American commitments to put a nuclear shield in Eastern Europe, and the undermining ofIsrael and calculated insults to its prime minister, this pattern raises serious, and perhaps almost unthinkable, questions about the Obama administration's foreign policy.

Once you realize that Obama is an anti-American piece of shit who's more emotionally connected to our enemies than to us, then the unthinkable becomes thinkable.  Obama didn't become president because he loves America, he became president because he hates America and wants to change the country into something else.  His actions towards our allies only underscore that point.  What better way to show those American allies who's boss and what's what?

Israel, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Honduras, Egypt, Britain, all betrayed by Obama.....  I'm afraid that we as a country won't have any actual allies once Obama is finished insulting, betraying and stabbing them in the back.

Dear Fellow Public Restroom Users

If you're feeling the need to bring Tolstoy's War and Peace in the bathroom with you, perhaps a change of diet is in order?  Or maybe I should bring you one of those drain clearing snakes for you to use?  Anything that might get your constipated ass off of one of the two toilet seats that serve over 150 people every day so that I can take a shit in the five minutes I have to shit, get coffee, do a status report and then get my ass back to training?

I didn't watch it live

But after seeing Bill O'Reilly's interview with the Marxist Messiah on the internet, I'm glad I didn't watch it, and it made me determined to not watch his show the next time I'm around a TV.

Hey Bill - it's hard to understand what your questions were when you have your mouth wrapped around his balls.   What a fucking joke.

Democrat calls on lobbyists to help fight off Republican Budget Cuts

Un-fucking-real.

Just another reason why the Democrat American Communist Party needs to be brought before a judge and sent to jail for a looooooooooong time.

While I was away

Kevin Baker was on a roll.  From Market Ticker:

So now we have a White House that has declared its intent to ignore a declaratory judgment.
The Administration has no right to do this.
Obama's White House has exactly two options:

Comply with the ruling.  This means that any and all activity authorized or mandated by the Statute cease now.
File an appeal and ask for a stay pending its hearing.  If said stay is granted, then the ruling is held pending consideration.
That's it.
Folks, this is clear.  The Judge in question, Judge Vinson, in fact sets forth exactly this in the opinion:

So the Obama Administration will not follow the rule of law.  However, the rule of law is the only thing to keep good men from responding and living under the rule of violence.  We give up violent retribution to live under the rule of law.  If the rule of law does not work, or is so corrupted that it now harms those it's supposed to protect, we will go back to the rule of violence until we can make the rule of law work again.

This is now a full-blown Constitutional Crisis.  The Executive's willful, intentional and publicly-stated refusal to honor a declaratory judgment is an open act of willful and intentional violation of The Separation of Powers in The Constitution and, if combined with the use of or threat of use of force as is alwayspresent when government coercion is employed, treads awfully close to the line, and may cross it, of 18 USC Ch 115 Sec 2384,

Saint Hopen'Change.  Wiping his ass with the Constitution every day he's in office.

Another reason to abolish the ATF

They've gone from sheer incompetence to out-and-out corruption.  When the ATF is selling guns to buyers in Mexico and then trumpeting the fact that US guns are being used by Mexican drug cartels, in order to shut down Americans who want to buy guns.....

Back to life...

Back to reality.....

Yup, you caught it – nothing involved in such a change would be “free of charge”.   Instead others would be taxed or charged in order for women to not have to pay at the point of service.  That’s it.  Those who don’t have any need of contraception will subsidize those who do.  And the argument, of course, will be the “common good”.   The other argument will be that many women can’t afford “family planning services” or “contraception”.
But the assumption is the rest of you can afford to part with a little more of your hard earned cash in order to subsidize this effort (it is similar to other mandated care coverage you pay for but don’t need).  Oh, and while reading that sentence, make sure you understand that the administration claims it has not taken over health care in this country.

We're so far beyond the need for tar and feathers it ain't funny.

Logged out

I spent the entire weekend away from the news.  It was awesome.  Of course, I still managed to watch the Packers beat the Steelers in the Superbowl, which FUCKING ROCKED.

It's not that I'm a rabid Packers fan, although I do root for them when the Seahawks aren't on.  It's that I hate the Steelers that much.  I knew that some Steeler's fans had made a deal with Lucifer when both Woodson and Shields went out with injuries.  But the Pack managed to hold on, and never let the Steelers get ahead.

See kids?  In the end, good can win!

And now back to the grindstone.

*clears throat*

GO PACKERS!!

The Steelers sold their soul to have the refs give them the game in 2006, and they sold Big Ben's soul and reputation for their next win.  They can't have much left to sell this time around.  Maybe Polamalu's hair?
