Earworm

I don't know why, but this song has been in my head quite a bit recently.

I've kind of had this neo-Celtic longing going on, and this woman's voice, and the beat of the song just remind me of that.  Hell, I haven't been happy with much of modern music for a while.  It's like the same fucking bubble-gum crap producers that inflicted Britteny Spears and the Backstreet Boys on us have now taken over the entire music industry, including country.  I know there's good music out there.  But it never seems to hit the airwaves these days.  Songs like this:

I know that Allison Krause is NOT the only voice out there.  But all we get these days is the same no-talent crap that turned me off from "rock" music.  I listened to Keith Urban play his show before the Super Bowl, and I was disappointed.  It seems he relies on his studio to make him sound good.  And that bugs me.  When I went to my last concert many moons ago, Brooks and Dunn sounded just as good live as they did off their album.  That's how it should be!  If you have to rely on a soundboard and a computer to make yourself sound good, then I don't want to buy your music.

Blah.  I'm turning into my father.  But is it too much to ask for the artists being dumped out of the studios for our display to have the talent we're told they have?

So were you in 'attendance' at the Super Bowl Tailgate Party, or did you have to listen to the same crappy 'sound' from Fox TV that was used on the Halftime Show as well? Obviously you have never heard Keith Urban IN CONCERT and LIVE... he puts on THE BEST LIVE CONCERT SHOW in the business, bar non! He sings and plays NON-STOP and he rocks the venue like no one, and I've seen 100's of concerts in my lifetime!

Check out Enter The Haggis---a fusion celtic rock band from Toronto Canada that blends 19 different genres into a seamless whole-talented young guys that play a grueling 300+show schedule yearly with fans growing daily!

Concur with Anon in regards to Mr. Urban.

Saw him paired in concert with Kenny Chesney, here in Houston. They're longtime friends who used to room together back when both were struggling nobodies, trying to break into the buisness.

Well, Mr. Urban so outclassed Mr. Chesney, as to make me feel sorry the wee bald country doppelganger wannae be Jimmy Buffett.

Keith Urban, had he been playing in the '70s (and trust me, I was there), would have been a Rock n'Roll GOD, atop the Parthenon of Paige, Clapton, Trowers and all the others you could hope to name.

He so blew down the Houston crowd that they went nuts after a 2nd encore, demanding a third.

Frankly, I think the whole Stupor Bowl venue imparts involuntary levels of suckitude on most artists, especially given the time constraints of the show. Not to mention production values weighted more to the discrimitating tastes of the W.W.F. afficianado, than to anything remotely subtle, tasteful or musical.

If you ever get the chance to catch Keith Urban in concert, especially as the headliner, DO. NOT. PASS. IT. UP. (!!!) <--- three exclamations!

Meanwhile, I'm gonna go fire up the late '70s Sansui 9090, que up some Dark Side of the Moon on the old MFSL gold Ultradisk, and chill out to the way sounds were supposed to be.

Dave, if you are turning into your father, you have first done him proud, and second, achieved maturity across the generations.

Jim and Anon - I'm willing to take a second look at Mr. Urban, if you two think he's that good.

Rivrdog - I can only hope to match up to my father. I won't go into details, but if at my grave people say "He was his father's son" I'll be happy forever after.
