Car wash can't ask status of workers | Chicago Tribune

Chicago:

A federal judge in Chicago has found that a suburban car wash tried to intimidate its mostly Hispanic employees by requiring verification of their immigration status after three workers complained about alleged sexual harassment.
The judge is an appointee of President Clinton.

Have a nice weekend.

Why do American workers have bad reputations?

At Michelle Malkin's place, yesterday:

As synchonicity would have it, here are two items from today:

About 18 percent of Americans in 2002 said they had a disability, and 12 percent had a severe disability, according to a report released today by the U.S. Census Bureau. Among people with disabilities, more than half of those 21 to 64 years old had a job, more than 4-in-10 of those ages 15 to 64 used a computer at home and a quarter of those age 25 to 64 had a college degree.
Is that a high number?

BREITBART.COM - Census Bureau Report: More Than 50 Million Americans Report Some Level of Disability

And then:

A wheelchair-bound Los Angeles woman, who has repeatedly filed lawsuits over access for the disabled, got up and ran after police arrested her for fraud, authorities said on Thursday.

Laura Lee Medley, 35, had sued in at least four California cities over injuries she claimed she sustained while trying to navigate her wheelchair before she was suspected of fraud.

Medley, who claimed to be paralyzed from a drunk driving accident, was tracked to Las Vegas where police there took her into custody and then, when she complained of medical issues, to a local hospital, Long Beach prosecutor Belinda Mayes said.

'She gets to the hospital and while she's waiting for an examination, she gets up from the chair and runs,' Mayes said. 'Somebody remarked, 'That's where the great miracle occurred.''"

Sorry I haven't been posting much

Life gets busy sometimes, ya know?

Anyways, I just wanted to let people know that I'm still alive. Couple of things in my head to get out, as it were.

First, Jolly Time makes a salsa popcorn now. Good stuff. The wife picked some up, and we've been munching on it. Just spicy enought to make me happy. Not enough to make me beg for milk.

Second - I was taking my NCO to his medical appointment yesterday, as he's new here and doesn't know his way around San Juan yet. Yes, for major medical stuff, we have to go on the economy. It's paid for by the Army of course, but.... well, let's just say that I hope to G-d that I never break a bone here.

Scratch that - I'd be sent to the VA, and that's one of the better hospitals in San Juan. But my wife? Well, you might remember this little three week stay we recently had in San Antonio? Yeah. Ain't no doctor down here was gonna open her back up.

As I was saying, I was taking my sergeant to his medical appointment. It was going to be a while, so I went and got a cup of coffee, and found a place to smoke my pipe while I waited for him. It was during the duty day, so I was in uniform. I found a little bench, settled down with my java and my pipe, and just enjoyed the weather.

I saw a father and son walking up to the building, and the kid waved at me. So I waved back. I'm thinking "Nice kid", and thinking about things I have to do back at the office when the kid stops and whispers something to his dad, and his dad whispers something back, and all the sudden the kid runs over... and shakes my hand.

Every now and then I'm forcefully reminded that the world isn't all Leftists and "progressives". That was one of those moments.

The agenda

Duncan Black lays out The Plan.

I think the GOP have squandered a great chance to set things right, and I know that has pissed a lot of people off, but aftr clicking the above, have you a choice not to vote for Republicans?

"DJ" Fired:

A popular radio personality was fired yesterday after making a series of shockingly ugly, racist and violent on-air remarks - including a threat to sexually molest the young daughter of a rival deejay. The comments by Troi Torain - better known to his listeners on top-rated hip-hop station Power 105 (WWPR-FM) as DJ Star - were so over the top that he could be in hot water with the FCC and the Manhattan district attorney's office.

Torain offered listeners $500 to tell him where the daughter of nemesis DJ Envy, of Hot 97, went to school.

"Yes, I disrespect your seed," Torain ranted. "If you didn't hear me, I said I would like to do an R. Kelly on your seed. On your little baby girl."

Torain, 42, described in graphic detail what he meant by the reference to the R&B singer Kelly, who allegedly committed an unnatural act on an underage girl, a stunt captured on a widely circulated video.

Torain, who warned in his diatribe that he carries a gun, also called the wife of DJ Envy, whose real name is Rashawn Casey, a "whore," a "lo mein eater" and far worse anti-Asian slurs.
Nice.

Can you even imagine sitting at a microphone at a radio station and saying such things?

More:

Casey could not be reached for comment. But his wife, Gia Casey, who appeared at a news conference with several City Council members yesterday, said she's now afraid that her kids could fall prey, if not to Torain, then to a crazed listener.

"I want his job to be yanked from him, and I want Clear Channel to have to be responsible on some level for allowing this to happen," she said. "Because not only have they condoned it, but by condoning it they have promoted it."

Yesterday afternoon, the station suspended him. Hours later, they fired him.

One Crap Poll

Ankle Biting Pundits decomposes a poll for us.

Conclusion: What's even worse is how the spineless GOP members of Congress will use this poll to play Chicken Little and demand that the GOP "soften" its positions on certain issues.

Methinks those positions need to be HARDENED.

ABA lowers rating on Kavanaugh

Follow the money.

To tie in with TVE's post below....

When it comes to who's winning in Iraq, the only people who think we're losing are the Democrats and their media allies. And to quote Powerline:

And spare us the hate mail: I didn't say it. al Qaeda did.

At the same time, the Americans and the Government were able to absorb our painful blows, sustain them, compensate their losses with new replacements, and follow strategic plans which allowed them in the past few years to take control of Baghdad as well as other areas one after the other. That is why every year is worse than the previous year as far as the MujahidinÂ?s control and influence over Baghdad.

It seems that every day, there's more proof that we are winning in Iraq, while the Donks and the MSM play up American deaths in their desperate attempt to wrest defeat from the jaws of victory. How much longer can the traitorous Left deny what we're doing? How much longer can the surrender-monkey Left ignore the victories that we've accomplished in Iraq and Afghanistan? How much longer.....

Ah, forget it. Right now the Left is a lost cause, amorasss of insanity and delusion, spiraling the drain of irrevelancy and plummeting further and further into the cesspool of forced ignorance and anti-Americanism. Is that harsh? Good. Because words can't explain just how sunk into la-la land the Left has become. Up is down. Black is white. Good is bad. Defeat is victory. When even al Queda knows they're losing, the only excuse the Left has for continuing that meme is such a deep and abiding hatred for America that they'll ignore the plain truth and hide from reality. Anything to get back into power and return America to a UN peacekeeping lapdog.

I don't vote Republican because they're conservative. I vote Republican because to allow the Democrats back into any semblance of power might just sink this country for good.

Mapping Gas versus Bush

Interesting.

And the dozen years of Republican "control" of Congress will pass without reversing any of the policies that drive us to addiction to foreign energy.

In Iraq, Thousands of Construction Projects Completed

How many have you heard about? The Democrat media can report every death at the hands of al Qaeda scum faithfully referred to as "insurgents", but in order to get reports like this we have to rely on conservative websites like National Review and authors like Bill Crawford who brings us another in illuminating series of compendiums on progress made in Iraq. Here's a sample:

Since March 2003, 11,600 construction projects have been started and 9,340 projects valued at $9.3 billion have been completed," said Kathye A. Johnson, director of reconstruction for the Gulf Region Division of the Army Corps of Engineers. "Rebuilding the infrastructure is helping the emergence of democracy and establishing the foundation for a strong economy.

In addition, reconstruction projects have added 1,400 megawatts to the Iraqi power grid and added 1.2 million cubic meters of water per day to the water system. Other progress includes:

— Hours of electric power in all areas of the country except Baghdad are now above prewar levels; U.S.-funded electricity projects have added 2,710 megawatts to Iraq's prewar generation capacity;

— U.S.-sponsored projects have provided potable water to 3.1 million more Iraqis and sewer service to an additional 5.1 million.

— Almost all Iraqi children have been inoculated against a variety of diseases.

— A total of 5,108 schools have been refurbished or repaired and more than 47,000 teachers have been trained.

I know people usually put a "read the whole thing" at the end of their entry, but you'll read what you want. Instead, I'll tell you to SPREAD THIS AROUND. Get it in front of as many eyes as possible because the Democrats, who recoil in horror any time someone mentions how obvious their desire to see the United States fail in Iraq is, don't seem interested in spreading around anything other than the number of soldiers and civilians killed in Iraq since the beginning of the war (the people killed before that point in time in Iraq don't count). If we want people to know how many schools we've built, teachers we've trained, students who are getting an education, hospitals built, supplies delievered, innoculations performed, increases in the amount of electricity available, the amount of potable water, the new sewer systems, roadways, police stations, trained Iraqi soldiers, terrorists killed, terrorists captured, weapons caches found, territory transfered over to Iraqi security forces, or any of the numerous indicators of progress within the country - we're going to have to inform them ourselves. Democrats can't find it within themselves to mention our accomplishments. I don't wonder why.

Jeff gets all the good hate mail

I mean, even when my trolls were at their worst, I never had people writing crap like this about my blogging.

How Goldstein manages to write a response without laughing hard enough to have a stroke, I'll never know.

Well, according to the UN

Those little tramps were asking for it. I mean, they were just DYING to get their hands on some cash!

Aid workers and U.N. peacekeepers are trading food for sex with young girls in Liberian camps housing those left homeless by years of war, an aid group said Monday.

Save the Children, which surveyed nearly 160 children and about 170 adults who were either living in camps or had recently returned home, said they were repeatedly told of girls having sex with older men in exchange for money, food and other goods.

The accused included peacekeeping troops, aid workers and other powerful men in the community. The report did not give the nationality of the aid workers or peacekeepers involved. About 17,000 U.N. peacekeepers are based in Liberia.

Why is it that whenever the UN sends "peacekeepers" who aren't part of NATO forces, you hear about child sex camps, pedophilia, rape, drug running, and all manner of illegal shit?

I mean, it couldn't be because the UN is a group of worthless dictatorial fuckwits, could it?

MORE: And distressingly familiar.

Here's the lesson of the past three years: The UN kills.

In 2003, you'll recall, the US was reviled as a unilateralist cowboy because it and its coalition of the poodles waged an illegal war unauthorised by the UN against a sovereign state run by a thug regime that was no threat to anyone apart from selected ethnocultural groups within its borders, which it killed in large numbers (Kurds and Shia).

Well, Washington learned its lesson. Faced with another thug regime that's no threat to anyone apart from selected ethnocultural groups within its borders which it kills in large numbers (African Muslims and southern Christians), the unilateralist cowboy decided to go by the book. No unlawful actions here. Instead, meetings at the UN. Consultations with allies. Possible referral to the Security Council.

And as I wrote on this page in July 2004: "The problem is, by the time you've gone through the UN, everyone's dead." And as I wrote in Britain's Daily Telegraph in September 2004: "The US agreed to go the UN route and it looks like they'll have a really strongish compromise resolution ready to go about a week after the last villager's been murdered and his wife gang-raped."

Several hundred thousand corpses later Clooney is now demanding a "stronger multinational force to protect the civilians of Darfur".

It doesn't matter how many times the evidence is presented to the Left, they still believe that a corrupt group of thugs, dictators, communists, theocrats and self-appointed "leaders" can help the world more than those nasty, brutish, goose-stepping stormtroopers in US military uniforms. And they're consistently proven wrong, but they never learn the lesson. From kiddy sex-rings, genocide that goes unstopped, drug and weapons-running, the UN does it all. Except help anyone. That would be almost "unilateral".

So who, in the end, does "multinational action" boil down to? The same small group of nations responsible for almost any meaningful global action, from Sierra Leone to Iraq to Afghanistan to the tsunami-devastated Sri Lanka, Thailand and Indonesia and on to East Timor and the Solomon Islands. The same core of English-speaking countries, technically multinational but distressingly unicultural and unilingual and indeed, given that most of them share the same head of state, uniregal. The US, Britain, Australia and Canada (back in the game in Afghanistan) certainly attract other partners, from the gallant Poles to the Kingdom of Tonga.

But, whatever international law has to say on the subject, the only effective intervention around the world comes from ad hoc coalitions of the willing led by the doughty musketeers of the Anglosphere. Right now who's on the ground dragging the reluctant Sudanese through their negotiations with the African Union? America's Deputy Secretary of State Bob Zoellick and Britain's International Development Secretary Hilary Benn. Sorry, George, that's as "multinational" as it's gonna get.

Clooney made an interesting point a few weeks ago. He said that "liberal" had become a dirty word in America and he'd like to change that. Fair enough. But you're never going to do so as long as your squeamishness about the projection of American power outweighs your do-gooder instincts.

If the Left would stop hating this country and what it stands for long enough to realize that good can come out of US military intervention, we could have possibly stopped the genocide in Rwanda and Darfur in it's tracks. But sending troops to a country raises shrieks from the Left like howler monkeys disturbed from their rest by a clear-cutting team of loggers in Panama.

What's the quintessential leftist cause? It's the one you see on a gazillion bumper stickers: Free Tibet. Every college in the US has a Free Tibet society: There's the Indiana University Students for a Free Tibet, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison Students for a Free Tibet, and the Students for a Free Tibet University of Michigan Chapter. Everyone's for a free Tibet, but no one's for freeing Tibet. Idealism asinertia is the hallmark of the movement.

Boldface is mine, because I think Steyn hits the nail on the head. Hard. The Left is wonderful about promoting their causes, and Tibet is one of the longest lasting causes they've ever taken up. So what do you think would happen if the US, Britain, Australia and India went into Tibet and finally kicked the ChiComs out once and for all?

The same riots, protests, and claims of imperialism that we've seen for the past five years would happen all over again. Arab street? Hell, the Progressive street would ignite in howls of rage. There would be marches in Seattle, protests in NCY, and riots in San Francisco. Despite all their calls for action, the Left will never authorize action from the US military, because unless military action is undertaken with UN approval, then it's somehow illegitimate. Which is the biggest crock of shit I've ever seen, and it simply proves that the Left, despite all it's claims, is simply unwilling to do what has to be done in order to carry out it's supposed goals. They're hypocrites, spineless jellyfish demanding action and not wanting the action to happen. They want the world to be all rainbows and fluffy bunnies, and then shriek like children when it rains or people breed rabbits in non-PETA approved cages. They use catchy slogans and causes to help them feel good about themselves and allow themselves to sleep at night, but when the rubber hits the road they step on the brakes. They want world peace, and yet oppose removing the people who would bomb the world flat. They claim to want to end the genocide happening in Africa, and yet absolutely will not accept the US military being sent to stop the genocide. Because when you've self-indoctrinated yourself to believe that the US military is the root of all evil, controlled by the evil Bushiter and his oil baron buddies, you simply cannot accept that our troops have done more good for the world than all the UN resolutions combined.

So long as the Left continues to put their blind faith in a corrupt organization controlled by dictators and thugs, instead of in the countries that have actually, ya know, prevented genocide from happening when they've been allowed to, we will continue to see dead bodies piled up. And no amount of posturing or hot air from the likes of George Clooney is going to change that. Stop genocide in Darfur? Gladly, if you would only get out of the way.

I don't see that happening any time soon.

Gosh, who woulda thunk it?

I mean, why in the world would a communist goatscrew want to stay in power?

CARACAS, Venezuela — President Hugo Chavez said that if opposition parties boycott December's presidential election he would call a referendum asking voters to decide whether he should govern Venezuela for the next 25 years.

Cause' ya know, our old pal Jimmah said that Venezuela's election was free and fair! Just like Saddams!

Speaking Saturday at a stadium packed with supporters in central Lara state, Chavez rejected allegations he was a power-hungry tyrant but said he might seek to extend his rule beyond current term limits if the opposition pulls out of the presidential vote, as it did last year's congressional election.

Now I must admit that I haven't had first hand experience with Venezuela's electoral system, but a guy who intimidates his opponents, rallies around a communist flag, and sucks up to Fidel Castro might not be the most honest guy in the world, ya know.

Chavez supporters won all 167 seats in the National Assembly on Dec. 4 after major opposition parties boycotted the election, saying they did not trust Venezuela's electoral system or the country's elections council. The opposition has raised doubts about the nation's electoral registry, an electronic voting system and electoral audits conducted by the council.

Chavez on Saturday slammed political foes for suggesting that the elections council, which was appointed recently by pro-government lawmakers, is biased in his favor.

Because it's not at all rare for one party to get ALL the votes! It happens all the time! Just ask Chavez's mentor Fidel!

Polls indicate Chavez is likely to win the Dec. 3 election, and international observers have signed off on recent votes as fair.

Yep! Jimmah Cah-duh and Harry Belefonte both say that it's good. And they wouldn't have an agenda, would they?

I got ten bucks that says when Fidel finally kicks the bucket, Chavez is going to be rushing troops into Havana faster than you can say "Cuba Libre". And won't we have a fun time with that?
